[ no matter where you might be -- the metro, the shrine, your actual room? you catch a movement out of the corner of your eye and a blonde teenager is taking refuge behind a door, in a karaoke booth, a supply closet, or under your actual bed, etc. the list goes on. the stupider, the better ]

[ hunter catches your eye and has the audacity to make a "shh" motion at you. wow, what is he hiding from? what's got this kid so spooked he'll take refuge under the beds of other recruits? ]

[ it must be serious.... right? ]

[ he's under your bed now. please describe winter's jammies for my reference. i hope they have cute octopi on them ]

[ there doesn't appear to be anyone around..... mystery? ]

[ You think this man wears jammies? (No octopi, but his pajama pants have stars on them.) ]

Let who catch up to you?

(What if he doesn't catch any movement at all and he is truly just minding his own business? Tsurumaru is just trying to figure out how he can shake things up around the base. Maybe he'll go put some emotional therapy books in the horror section of the library? Cover one of the dormitory wings with sticky notes? Or maybe he'd find the cafeteria shopping list and add some fun little items to it. Maybe he could switch out all of the boring bandaids at the medic bay for some cute ones from the store. Dinosaurs and super heroes would be way more interesting than just plain old bandages...

He's so focused on surprising others that he doesn't expect to be surprised instead. Where ever he finds Hunter... he yelps and jumps back, placing a hand over his heart,)

Wah?! A surprise?!

(What is happening here...)

[Is that someone hiding behind a shishi statue at the shrine? Raidou gives him a raised eyebrow, looking. around when Hunter gives him the shush gesture, wondering who or what he's supposed to be quiet about.

Raidou is dressed in traditional clothes and carrying a broom. Someone's got to keep the place tidy and it's going to be the newbie teenager to the shrine. He approaches quietly, noticing it's the boy he spoke with at the hanami party. Hmm.

He keeps his voice low.]

Are you alright?

[ Ereshkigal is sitting up on her bed, reading the book Taryon lent her. Gosh, this wizard really knows how to be scary and charismatic...! He's inspirational. And that lady of the elves is so cool! She wishes she could be nearly as cool.

But then... She hears something moving under her bed! An rodent? Some kind of lost animal? Her baby deer used to sneak around when she was in the Underworld... She doesn't know what it is, but she knows it's a good occasion to rehearse her routine before a living being!

She clears her throat and suddenly, the temperature in her room drops drastically. It's freezing Everything goes dark, as if covered by a thick mist. She gets up from her bed and has ethereal spears appear behind her.

When she speaks, her voice is unusually deep and cold. ]

Sinful animal... How dare you defile the Goddess of death's temple?

[There's something under his bed. Or someone. Scurrying around like a strange little rodent.

Kaworu drops to his knees and then to his stomach to look at the offender.]

What are you doing down there?

[Kaworu says, in a normal tone, as if he didn't understand the gesture that Hunter was making at all and as if hiding under someone else's bed is a quirky little thing to do.]

[ yes i do and they are super cute. hunter, on the other hand, does not seem super cute. he is a gremlin underneath winter's head. a lock of hair pops out, followed by a face ]

Them! That... cat doctor thing!

[ it may become increasingly clear to winter that hunter just does not want to go to the doctor ]

[ emotional therapy books is horror, thanks, and due to this being the funniest possible option, hunter is indeed hiding in the library. in a trolley full of books ]

Be quiet! [ he responds, in a hiss whisper. ] Or they'll find me!

[ a book falls on his head and bonks him ]

[ yes it is, and he's very subtle about it, clearly. as a lock of his hair sticks out from behind the statue. and then a head. but, it's raidou! from the party! and he recognizes the seriousness of this situation (??) ]

I'm hiding. I can't let them find me...

[ his eyes flick around. he's clearly on edge about something ]

[ hm, that's not good. hunter remains under the bed, but he can feel the shift in the atmosphere, the mist coming in, the drop in temperature --- wait, it's that goddess lady doing this? maybe she is who she says. ]

[ regardless, hunter apparently is ready to take his changes freezing to death rather than what he's hiding from, so he stays hidden and quiet!! ]

[ ereshkigal, though, might see a little lock of familiar blonde hair under her bed.... hmmm, suspicious ]

[ yes, it's clearly such a normal thing to do. hunter meets his eyes, not moving from his clever hiding spot. there's probably some dust on his face now or something ]

[ he motions for kaworu to be quiet. this is serious business!! apparently ]

Shhh! I'm hiding. Keep your voice down or they'll find us!

[ spooky... ]

[ Blink. Blink. ]

Are you trying to get out of your check-up?

[Raidou looks back over his shoulder, but doesn't see anything out of the ordinary. A few shrine workers milling about, a few visitors making offerings.

After a moment of consideration, Raidou decides to join Hunter on his side of the statue.]

Who's them?

[ this is even more conspicuous. hunter ducks a little, trying to remain as hidden as possible!! scanning the area!! being very dramatic about it!! ]

That.... cat doctor thing. Or any of his minions!

[ okay so hunter just doesn't want to go to the doctor.... reverse vet.... ]

No!

[ immediately defensive. ]

[ but, then, after a beat, because it's winter ]

Maybe! Don't tell them I'm here. Please.

[He's hiding here? From Dr. Spim? He can't help but look a little amused.]

I don't think they're going to come for you here. Are you really that afraid of the physical? I've had to do several. It's not so bad. They mostly, ah, scan things and check the readings. Ask a few questions.

[It's a lot more convenient than doctors in his time, that's for sure.]

[ Even if Hunter hadn’t followed up with a “maybe”, that “no” is definitely a “yes.” ]

I doubt they’re going to come poking around my room, but do you mind telling me what has you so skittish?

[ the truth comes out.... hunter is just being very dramatic about refusing his physical. clearly, there's no way he can be caught here, vaguely hiding behind a statue ]

I'm not afraid. [ sounding more than a little defensive, here!! ] I just don't want to do it. They're... nosy. It's too many questions.

How many times do they make you do this? [ several physicals.... his nightmare ]

[ at least hunter kind of admitted it to winter. the key words here being "kind of". ]

[ anyway, he is clearly safe from the vet here, so he relaxes ever so slightly ]

I just don't want to do it! It's too invasive. That cat thing is nosy.

I certainly am not thrilled about how invasive they are, no. I can't even say they're doing it in our best interests. But it's also better to be safe than sorry.

[He sighs at that question.]

I had to stay in the medbay overnight after the kaiju attack. After that they had me coming back every few days, and now only once this week. I... had gone through a lot electrical shocks during combat.

[Not to mention a ton of other injuries. He barely made it out conscious, and had to be rescued. He sure doesn't sound happy to share any of this, but maybe it's better to talk about it a little.]

They wanted to make sure there was no lasting damage. I've been given the all-clear now, though.

I don’t like the idea of these people poking at me any more than you do, but– [ he motions to his own eye, indicating where the implant sits ] –they have proven that they’ll do it with or without our consent. I’d rather be conscious for it, personally.

[ Blonde hair...? Rodents don't have hair! Not that sort of hair, anyway. Mhm... She should give whatever is hiding under her bed a chance before she strikes. She clears her throat and: ]

Who's there?

[ The ethereal spears are still there. Not replying would be most unwise. ]

I suppose you have a point.... [ they did already get hunter once before. and everyone, even the most powerful warriors here ]

[ he gives winter a look of concern from.. still under his bed, probably ]

Did they hurt you?

[ did his visit to the vet go okay..... :pleading_face: ]

[ rodents can have blonde hair! probably ]

[ but this particular rodent is trying to get a glimpse of the spears to assess threat level without giving himself away...... a little late for that. he debates staying quiet, but.... well. better to take his chances with her ]

It's Hunter! I'm not here to steal or desecrate or whatever! Keep your voice down.

[ before the vet finds him!! ]
