While we don't have any devices on hand to measure delta waves, we have plenty of data describing when each stage of sleep occurs during a regular 8 hour sleep. To avoid entering delta and REM sleep, we merely need to wake the slumberer around 30 minutes into their sleep.
Preferably, however, I'd like to extend that period to an hour, which requires determining if delta sleep is safe.
