It's not unusual for civilizations or planets to implode like that. It is unusual to make it everybody else's problem for four million years to the extent that you're blacklisted by every major intergalactic governing body from the Galactic Council to the Black Box Consortium. We were... not popular. Still aren't, honestly, though we're doing better now that we aren't indiscriminately taking our war to every new planet we find as a proxy front. Hopefully we've learned better.
