(Does Athrun complain about it to his old squadmates when Shinn is around? Damn!) And... shooting Athrun down involves a different kind of emotional volatility than Angel Down. Shinn was confused and angry and miserable at the time -- how much of that does someone know when they get one of these ocular hallucinations? Do they get how torn he felt between Rey and Athrun before he just snapped, or do they just see the attack? He's burning with curiosity but can't quite bring himself to ask yet. His surprised expression slips back into unhappy uncertainty. ]

[ He says it mulishly because he knows it's dumb to bring up some super-localized resistance fighters, but it's not like he knows anyone outside of Compass and Orb other than academy classmates that he hasn't kept up with since graduation (and those classmates have a fifty-fifty chance of having tried to kill Kira while Shinn wasn't around).

Shinn likes Dearka as much as he likes anyone here -- he's reasonably nice and normal, and he didn't narc on Shinn's sketchy history of moral decisionmaking back in Brasov. But Dearka and Yzak and Athrun are clearly a lot tighter with each other than any of them are with Shinn, and if this is going to end with Dearka pissed at Shinn... it will be kind of a bummer.
