He'd thought it might be a difference in desire, or distraction (they are technically on a mission, even if she'd said from the start they could use it as a chance to relax as well), but to not be able to properly relax is one familiar strain on their relationship. He'd gotten used to it over the years, learned to temper his expectations and respect (admire, in fact) her love for her country that drove her to do everything that she could for Orb, even to the detriment, at times, of her personal life and wishes. It's part of why they'd had to separate a few years ago, why they'd nearly lost one another forever. Him to his clumsy trust in Durandal and a belief he could find his path with ZAFT again, and her being pressured to marry that idiot who couldn't honour who she was or what she believed in. He'd found his way eventually, and she'd gotten back control of her life, but the threat of slipping back into another stupid mistake is ever-present in his mind. It would be absurd to think she doesn't occasionally worry about that, too. Letting go of a country is a much bigger stakes decision than one soldier's choice of alignment.
How to handle this, though... she can say "now's fine", but the mood is off. She's right that asking first would cause a similar problem. So... maybe he should use that comfort he's carrying and pay it forward a bit.]
