denji was flat-out pointing the head of his right chainsaw at the civilians who kept gliding into the fucking deck through the busted doors (probably due to strong waves rocking the ship, so it's not really their fault). regardless, the half-devil was sick of having to juggle between keeping a head over his body, fighting the monsters, and protecting the humans from joining an orca diet. it was tiring and not nearly as fun as he was having a few hours ago. fuck them, he is done. he is free. the hero can do the saving now.
as the thick smoke cleared out, the creatures rushed in their direction, ravaging through the ship and destroying everything in their path. not only did they have to deal with kaiju attacks, but the ship itself didn't seem like it would survive any further destruction. ah, they were running out of time. with a grunt, he yanked his chainsaw out of the fresh carcass, unbothered to do any further damage to it. he, at least, acknowledges it's time to switch tactics and move to 'mercy killing'. you know, just stab them in the head and end it, instead of toying with them.
he finds bakugou between the chaos, leaning in to see the work of the medics on his teammate, cautious with the slant of the chainsaw on his head. he's close, but not too close. he can tell bakugou isn't in his best shape, and he shouldn't overdo it, but it's not as bad as before. it's progress. ]

[ rudely interrupted— two more showed up, and no single fucks was given since they were basically stepping all over their buddies' remains to get to them. he didn't need to play hero and push bakugou out of the way, he knew that guy could make an escape way faster than he could. denji got away and was quick to grab one of the medics by the back of his shirt, lifting him off his feet, and dragging him out of the way just in time to escape the monster's killer jaws. guess he will still do some saving.
good news: only two left (so far). bad news: they seemed a lot stronger than the previous group. ]
