A. Post-Surgery

[ Choices were made. March may or may not regret them a little, but upon remembering things like how badly injured so many of the Outsiders had been and Ishmael gritting her teeth while struggling to walk, she'd ultimately decided it was worth it.

Maybe not right now, though, not when she's kind of staggering around the base, looking very much Still In Pain and sheet-white. Of course, that's one thing. The other thing is that she looks completely disoriented and depending on where you find her, it's pretty obvious that it's not where she was trying to go. Maybe it's a non-Redemption wing. Maybe it's the cafeteria.

Maybe it's the rec room?? Maybe she's actually heading outside when she clearly shouldn't be??

If you're still not entirely sure what she's up to, she can be heard quietly muttering to herself in a shaky voice, definitely rattled-- ]

W-why is it so hard to find my room??

B. Compass Required

[ It's a day or so later! And she is.

... Not doing any better. Though at the very least, she's had some time to get the style upgrade implemented and is comfortably clothed in her much more familiar (to her) outfit from home.

But she hasn't actually been seen on the base all day, which probably isn't terribly strange, since March likes to go out and experience life, but at this point it's dark and if you're out at night, you might spot her. Talking to a few people who seem either amused or flummoxed by her current level of vexation. ]

No, sorry, I've definitely been to Shinjuku, and I know where it is on a map, I just--

I'm not drunk! Look, just tell me "this way" or "that way" and I'll figure it out from there!!

[ ... She has apparently been dealing with something similar for hours, given that she really does sound like she's on the verge of frustrated tears. ]

C. Bah Hummingbird

[ At this point, March has given up leaving the base on her own, so you can spot her in the greenhouse (though it's arguable whether she meant to be there or not), a cute little hummingbird perched on her shoulder. She's taking pictures of the plants, though she pauses to glance up when she realizes she's got company, offering a smile that is definitely a lot steadier than the mess she's been over the past few days. ]

These little guys are pretty cute, aren't they? I'm more of a dog person, but I gotta admit, they've got a lot of appeal!

[ OOC: Also fine with doing custom starters if nothing catches your interest! ]

My point is you can't even be honest with me, you're just purposely giving me grief. Which means, I don't actually believe you can handle certain matters on your own.

It'd be nice to be wrong, though.

I spent most of my life handling matters on my own, actually, and it seems to have worked out just fine for me.

[ But March can think whatever she wants. And hey look, there's the ding of the elevator arriving now. ]

Pretty sure your matters weren't romantic.

[ Under her breath, but there's the elevator, so she'll tug him on because the very least, directional impairment does not seem to include "go forward three steps." ]

[ He heard that. But he'll follow her into the elevator first before saying anything. ]

Contrary to popular belief, my lack of love life had more to do with my circumstances than my personality.

I don't know how popular a belief that is, given how many people seem to like you here, but what circumstances? Workaholic?

I've learned to take regular breaks from work, actually.

[ As much as his piles of paperwork threaten to overwhelm him on the regular, he still remembers to take his daily teatime breaks. ]

It's more like [ hmmmm, how does he put this ] my work doesn't allow me to get out much. Despite the breaks, I'm more or less chained to my office.

[ How long can he dance around this subject before he has to say it outright. ]

[ Who knows? Because March is listening intently, trying to figure out what kind of work this is, actually. He can take breaks, but he can't get out much? And when he says chained... ]

Wait, are you like--being forced to work? Are you in trouble?? Do you need us to come get you when we're out of here?!

[ Would March 7th stage a prison break for a friend, absolutely, was definitely on the verge of trying to figure out how to kidnap Dan Heng-- ]

[ March 7th staging a literal prison break so she can bust the guy who runs the place out and leave everyone else to fend for themselves. A lot of people would be happy about that, actually.

Anyway this is spiraling out of control so he decides to step in a little and stop being so obtuse for one second. ]

Nothing of the sort. [ Though he's very touched she would even think of such a thing. Maybe he should tell her about his love life..... ] My workplace is several hundred feet underwater, that's all. Going up and down from the surface is.....well, kind of a pain, so I don't do it much.

... Do you have some kind of submarine or something? Underwater elevator? Or can you breathe underwater?

[ Even if he could, he'd still have to swim upwards for several hundred feet and that seems... to be a pain. Not to mention isn't there a ton of pressure at that level? ]

I think that'd drive me crazy, not being able to get out and see the sun at least once in a while...

[ The only good thing about being exposed to UV rays once a week is that his skin is great. ]

There is an elevator but it takes quite awhile to reach the top. [ Unlike this elevator that is already spitting them out onto the ground floor. ] Factor in the time it takes just to get anywhere, and you can see why it's easier sometimes just to stay in my office.

[ Onward they go, with Wrio back to leading the way. ]

Being able to see the sun here every day is assuredly a most welcome change of pace.

You can't just ask for like... a new position, or something? Something not all the way underwater?

[ And March has gone back to following. It's all good, they're making progress. ]

I feel like this would just make it harder to go back to.

[ How much should he say? Eh, it's not like other people here don't know already, and as far as trusting people goes, March is on the higher end of the scale. He gives her a rueful smile. ]

I'm kind of the guy in charge, so there's not really any other position I can ask for.

[ Could he just make a new one, sure, but again....what other position is he gonna make. ]

You're the head honcho, huh?

... That kind of makes it even sadder that you're stuck down there, for the most part. Did you know about that when you applied?

[ You think they would have mentioned that in the job description-- ]

[frostfist]

I did. [ He's really out here bemoaning his lack of sunlight while admitting that he picked the job himself. ] But there was no one else suitable enough to take over at the time, so things sort of fell to me.

You know, you're a pretty responsible type when it comes down to it.

[ She might have sounded more surprised to have acknowledged this earlier, but here he is taking her to this party, so. Not terribly surprised at this point. ]

I'm always responsible.

You didn't seem like you were when I first met you. [ brightly. ]

But I'd call you reliable now!

I'm sure a [ what was it again ] pretty girl like yourself would have had no problem finding assistance if you truly needed it. I was simply accounting for all the factors.

Wow, does it really bug you that I said you weren't being responsible back then that you have to defend the you of the past? It's fine, you've probably balanced it out long by now.

[ If they are in defense of himself, then it's entirely coincidental! Truthfully he doesn't really care that much what other people think of him these days, but sometimes the urge to be annoying wins out over all else. ]
