[ Early May, a message is sent out to Outsiders inviting them to an amusement park experience without giant monsters (or corpses of them). At a much smaller fairground in the city's outskirts, Elan and Taryon have got a few rides hooked up and working, including rollercoasters, teacups, go-karts...honestly feel free to headcanon your own it's our castle now.

Most notable is the ferris wheel towering over the park. The view from the air is fantastic but the ride is not without its hitches and the power may cut out from time to time. Don't worry, your technicians are on it. Get comfortable inside and enjoy each other's company...

One half of the park remains out of order. A few rides are functional but rickety so if you are looking for a different kind of thrill by all means...Elan will tell you not to touch them if he sees you he will not be responsible for anyone's deaths!

Dinner's BYO(B) but he's brought a handful of fireworks for people to set off at night. Have at it!

Oh? That's handy.

[ Is this guy an engineer or a wizard? Because Invisibility magic, geez. Elan would find it hard to believe if he hadn't already seen Outsiders pull off similar impossible feats. ]

I'm no programmer [ and he's not going to become one anytime soon, but all they need is to not have the tech be traced back to them— ] but I bet it's imprinting system can be tricked if it relies on facial recognition.

So, you're going to wear a mask every time you work with it? We can buy something at the shop, like one of those masks you get at festivals, or that kind from the Masked Rider series? [His eyes light up at the potential for sneaky workarounds.] Then it could be traced to just about anywhere.

[ Elan's already done a stint in impersonation which was a huge pain of an experience, but it wouldn't be his first time putting on an act. Masked Rider...enemy of LILITH. Maybe this is the year he learns about LARPing. ]

Ooh, like we're a bunch of phantom thieves. [It's a small genre from Taryon's world, but he's found a lot more books about heroes of justice that use stealth to save their world out in Neo Tokyo.] I like it, I like it.

[ Does the genre exist in Gundam... Let's say Elan's not aware of it. But he gets it, because space pirates exist. ]

If we can make like a phantom and disappear, that'd be ideal. It's going to be risky. You sure about this?

[ Elan has to wonder what Taryon gets out of helping him. It's not like Taryon's resentful of LILITH the way he is. ]

I am. [He bobs his head to nod.] We need to get more involved. If there's something they're learning about, then we got to know.

[He's not incredibly suspicious of LILITH, but he doesn't like being kept in the dark. He doesn't want to be surprised with a horrible situation ever again.]

What are they going to do to me, send me home? I'm going okay there.

I can think of worse things than being sent home.

[ The last employer he crossed was out for his head, so he knows a thing or two about toxic workplaces. LILITH probably wouldn't execute them since they need them alive to fight kaiju, but they've already proven they can make their lives hell in other ways. On the other hand, doing nothing and living under the organization's thumb is a kind of hell in itself. Someone had once accused him of being too complacent with the leash around him, and now he can't see it any other way. ]

Anyway, let's not plan on being caught. We should have a cover story for why we're spending all this time together...

[ Elan taps his fingers against his arm in thought. ]

What if I pretended to be your assistant?

So...that way I'm the ringmaster, you're just someone I strongarmed into helping me? [He gave Elan a quick finger-gun and a wink - clearly how a criminal leader would act when recruiting underlings.] I like it. You'll face less punishment and still keep your hummingbird.

[The data will still be there for Elan to use, and then he can continue the work even if Taryon is sent home. Home, where Doty is, where his work is...away from this strange new world full of bizarre opportunities.]

Then...you'll take care of my roombas if I'm gone? I've gotten a bit attached to them...

[They're robots, but they are his dear pets.]

I can show you how to command them, if that helps. Then you'll have all the reason for use to hang out together. A dual education and cover story, what do you say?

[ Elan facepalms, honestly left a little speechless. Taryon is a good man. Maybe even too good for this kind of scheme. If the plan goes to shit, what happens to his hummingbird will be the least of his concerns, so give him a moment to process that Taryon is not only willing to cover for him but also would like for him to keep his robot. ]

I really don't think you need to worry about being sent home, but if you're that concerned about your roombas, I'll do what I can to look after them.

[ A dual education and cover story. It's the least he can do for having roped Taryon into his mess...and to repay him for the theme park. ]

[If it's for the betterment of future Outsiders, Taryon must help, even if he's kind of terrible at lying. And if he doesn't have the ruthlessness to actually tear down the scientists if they have to start a physical fight. But it's been a while since Taryon has arrived, and he's starting to feel like he knows just as much as when he showed up.]

[ Elan smiles. One that's mischievous but genuine. Sitting on his hands and doing nothing was driving him mad so this feels better, having a plan of action. He holds his hand out to shake, declaring cheerfully. ]
