[ well, she did tell rodion that she's going to come over to her room at some point. catch up on things, feast on good food, all that fun stuff. the sinners don't usually ask for more than that, aside from the usual desires of money and more food, and they're usually rewarded after a successful retrieval of the golden bough with more food.

it's no different here, though they have yet to hear about their first upcoming mission. but the holidays are growing nearer and nearer, so why not celebrate for surviving up to this point. so ishmael spent the entire day weaving in and out of various shops and restaurants for some cheap takeouts that she can afford on her meager budget, then trudge back to base with her hands full and -- hold on, she's going to put her stuff down first before knocking on rodya's door at the Redemption hall. ]

Come on, Rodya. We don't have all night.

[ please take her in, she's cold and tired ]

I bet. I did all of my running around kind of early and the lines were pretty big. I tried to look for a small cake to share for dessert, but they were wiped out in sooo many places.

[It's kind of nice to have a huge window with a decent view this time instead of a small window with prison bars. Rodya grabs herself a cup of noodles as well along with one of the beer cans before she goes to take a seat on her bed and setting her drink on the nightstand. Time to crack open these bad boys open, it's noodle time.]

You are still spending the night, right? I promise I won't hog the bed~ Once we get our first big paycheck, maybe I can get a couch in here for next time.

[She doesn't mind bed sharing, but having their own spaces is never a bad thing.]

[ they literally fought for their lives out there, huh. kinda like what happened in kcorp and all those bongys. anyway ish is feeling rice right now, so she's going to pick up a couple of chopsticks and start digging in. ]

You don't mind? You really miss having me as a roommate, don't you. [ hold on, she's gonna swallow. fuck manners, they'll never not eat like ravenous beasts at the end of a mission. ] Should be fine. I'm not too keen to go back there with my weird neighbors and all. And maybe you should spend your first paycheck on something practical in my opinion.

Maybe. I could have grown too used to my old neighbors that change is weird. [She snaps her chopsticks apart before she slurps up some noodles with an unattractive sound. She eats a few seconds in silence before speaking away, eyes focused more on her food.] Or maybe I want to enjoy company more now that my room is normal.

[That and being less alone with her thoughts and heavy heart. To stay distracted more often from her weakness.]

Hey, you should really be proud of me for stretching my starting funds out~ I did pretty good if I say so myself.

[There is no lie that she wants to gamble the rest of her funds away to build it back up, but is there even a proper casino around here? Maybe she needs to find the right people too.]

A couch is practical, it's extra seating and sleeping space! If I end up going back to the bus early and you are still here, it can be yours.

[In the rare yet possible case they get seperated. Not that Rodya wants to leave without Ishmael, but life can be cruel and go against your desires.]

[ ishmael chews on that. she missed shooting the shit with her crewmates aboard the pequod too, making stupid bets and drinking themselves silly at taverns, while sketching a dream of where she wanted to go from there.

rodya's loneliness is palpable. the woman may have brushed off sonya's words like it was nothing, but there's no way there isn't any truth in that. every single citydweller is lonely. it's how their society operates, after all. ]

You should go and meet more people, then. Some of the guys here are pretty nice like you, you know.

[ new people can be daunting, but so far it's been fun meeting them -- even if ish is being mildly mean towards some of them. she almost got robbed, ok. ]

How can you be so sure that you're gonna go back to the bus well before me? [ she huffs, picking up another chicken for her to eat by hand. ] If anything, we should consider the possibility of one of ours getting whisked over here. You can have them use the couch in the meantime.

I am only throwing the possibility out there. We could be coming and going at any time. [It's like LILITH is playing with a roulette on who they bring in.] There should be enough empty rooms for everyone, right? If this is gonna be my little home for however how long, might as well make it mine.

[Even if it's truly not hers as some things are-]

Yeah, there is some decent folks around us. I'm working on it, but old habits will persist. [For now, she is working on these noodles and booze. Ishmael does have a point that some folks aren't that bad. It's mostly because they are not raised in The City, where she is so used to the normal behaviors there. Even if she doesn't like to think on certain thoughts, it is something to think about when she is alone and going through her mind. Anyways-]

If you have to take a guess on which one of ours will show up next, who do you pick? [Might as well make a game out of it.]

Mm, it is kind of like coming and going of an Office as a Fixer. I get it.

[ ishmael is so used to seeing that on the boat, with ahab roping in as many people to replace the sailors they'd lost during whaling. and this isn't even about pursuing the Pallid Whale -- it's just natural to lose deckhands what with the natural disasters they encounter at see. ishmael is just numb to all that now.

so in truth, she really doesn't want rodion to go. but she can't just say that out loud, wtf. ]

If I had to pick, it'd be... [ she scrunches up her face in thought. let's see... ] Gregor? Imagine what this place could do with his arm. It might actually fix him.

[It kind of the same for the Yurodiviye when she was around. Folks were lost from various reasons; some from violence, others fell because their bodies couldn't endure any longer. Many of the people around her came from poor backgrounds and they desperately want change, but in the end...]

Right? It could make him better! [Or worse, but its the holidays so *~positivity~*] Or you know, help make his life a bit more comfortable with his situation. Old man might need a bit to adjust himself to the tech changes.

[It honestly doesn't take long for her to finish a cup of noodles, setting it down to the side so she can sip on her beer more.]

Don would have a fun time if she got picked up. Think they will love her energy. [A chuckle.] She got the enthusiasm for it, even if she might break something along the way.

Not sure if they'll love her energy here, though. [ she's going to pause here to drink some beer too. ] The Red Gaze can barely keep her in check back on the bus. Doubt that this place can handle her too.

[ it'd be really, really funny to watch, though. since they're on their own here, ishmael doesn't have to keep tabs on don if the blonde does manage to land here. she'll be LILITH's problem till further notice.

she's finished with her food, so give her a moment to stash it away. let's see, are there any other snacks nearby for dessert... ]
