@justish
[ Why do all of his trips to Europe suck so much? When is someone going to pull a functional giant robot out of their basement for him? Is the third one a scrapped plot for the Emoji Movie? ]

But if we haven't found it in the last two weeks something big'll have to change if we're gonna find it now

If they took people once, the chances are they'll target us again. When that happens, there has to be an opening. Since they're confirmed kidnapped, that means there's someone in charge, or at least they think they are. Once we find those answers, we'll be able to move forward.

[ Or Shinn didn't, and he hasn't heard about anyone else noticing anything. As far as he can tell, they were all at the bonfire and all conked out. (LILITH should have sent the caffiene on this mission instead of shoving it down their throats in sims--.) ]

@hottie 1/2
E.g., it got worse along with our reception and is probably why we're turned back toward the village whenever we cross certain boundaries in the forest.
Once we clear that up, we should be able to find this castle they're speaking about.
[ For anyone else wanting a perspective on that, but also - ]

Sooooo… I won't add to what everyone is saying about you not doing yourself any favours at the moment, but do you know any healers who can check you out?
That looked like it hurt.

… I’m fine
[ Which he is, physically (at least just after those punches; Godzilla tbd) — he’s tougher than he looks.
Mentally, though, he’s just miserable with the combination of worrying about the handful of people he knows in the castle, worrying about the villagers, and the growing realization that this organization has some complete dickbags. ]

… The conversation's private so you don't need to put up a front.
Get yourself checked out. If not for yourself, for the upcoming encounter.
[ Still, he's going to get a referral to one of the healers on the team anyway, and it's up to him if he decides to use it. Moving on, ]
But, uh.
The girl who hit you.
Ishmael.
She usually isn't that bad.
Most of us aren't.
[ something, something, a lot of tough decisions recently. ]

I know!
I know that already!
It hurts not knowing if they’re safe, it hurts wanting to see them again
But that doesn’t mean they can turn around and let other people get hurt! It doesn’t mean they can turn around and hurt everyone else—!
[ He is not talking about himself, although he doesn’t love getting hit. ]

… Now, in a similar situation, I think those of us who were there feel the need to prioritise more than ever. Especially with how the price would be the people we know and have fought alongside this entire time.
Anyway! This is why we've got guys like you and me. Backline buddies, yeah? At least, dealing with some villagers won't be as colossal of a task as an Imugi — we'll do our best for them. I get it; the things coming out are pretty messed up. But you gotta remember that we all come from wildly different backgrounds.

Anyway that’s a bit to chew over so there is a noticeable pause before the response. Being averse to splitting up after splitting up was a problem kind of makes sense. But for Shinn and his “my family got caught in crossfire” background, there’s no different background and no shitty experience that makes it right to forget or ignore that these are the types of people they should be fighting to protect.
(Makes it understandable, makes it something he might try and regret, makes it something he’s kind of surprised Dearka hasn’t held over him now that he has a moment to think about it, but doesn’t make it right—) ]
If they don’t want to protect people, why did they even come?

But he raises a fair question, one Elysium has considered a number of times before, although in different context—why does LILITH recruit those that they do? There are no sensible answers, aside from their technology being inherently flawed from the start. Maybe they all just had to deal with the hands they were dealt, for better and for worse. ]
… I can't speak for everyone, but for a non-zero number of us, defeating the kaiju is just a means to an end. The sooner we help this world with their problems, the sooner we can get back to ours — in theory.
But that's just one of countless reasons, and you don't necessarily have to accept it. We've made our case, and at the very least we're not the only ones who feel this way. The reality is, without LILITH's intervention, we don't have unity for shit and trying to convince those who refuse to listen is only going to lead to what you've already been intimately acquainted with.
So we'll just have to take it into our own hands, is all. Trust that rest of us will have the other parts covered.

Are you part of "a non-zero number"? Are the people in this world just a means to an end for you?
[ -- that requires fighting for the same things. ]

Mm.
Thanks … I guess.
