INCOMING MESSAGE (NON-KIDNAPPED CHARACTERS ONLY)

A CALL FOR HELP

β–Ά SUDDEN TRANSMISSION
On the 13th of October, the network flickers online and several messages pop up. Outsiders will probably recognize the usernames attached to them.

@ KIJYO

castle in the fog
skulls
watching us
sacrifice
help us

@ GOLDILOCKS

wolf kaiju
Promises protection
Found broken radio

@ BANKERBOY

🦸=❌
πŸΊπŸ’€πŸ”¨=less fog
πŸ‘Ή=πŸ¦‡πŸΊ
πŸ§‘β€πŸŒΎ=πŸ’©!
🏰=☠️!
go toget

@ ONESTEPFORWARD

We're okay for now. Careful of purple flowers. -πŸ¦†

Some Outsiders might notice these usernames to be Lucy/Kaede, Taryon, Nanami and Malkuth respectively. The messages end there and there will be no way to contact the senders or anyone who has gone missing. While Outsiders in the town will be able to use the network to speak to each other, the reception will be spotty and the messages might be delayed. It might be more efficient to simply meet up in person.

β–Ά AFTERWORD.
The messages from the kidnapped characters are out! Thank you everyone for participating! Non-kidnapped characters may use this log to have discussions (or do whatever else might be relevant). As previously mentioned, after the 7th, they will not be able to contact any kidnapped characters, and their messages to each other will be spotty or delayed (which can make for funny shenanigans if you prefer). It is probably much easier to organise an in-person meeting, but we will leave it to you to do what you like. The townsfolk convene at the church for their daily prayers and worship at about 12 noon every day. Outsiders may use this time away from the townsfolk to have more private discussions.

We have put this up early to allow people more time to thread in it, but ICly it is going up on the 13th and will lead up to the Kaiju log on the 15th. These messages are also delayed. Whether or not the captives actually are 'okay' is up in the air ...

All tags on this log are worth 2 points and will count towards October AC.

Your assistance will be appreciated. I will also partake in some of the destruction, as I am not combat oriented and will therefore be less valuable in a fight against the perpetrators, but I must reserve my strength for the aftermath. I doubt our kidnapped comrades will return to us unscathed.

i'll try to do as much as i can then, since beyond basic first aid i might not be much good for the aftermath either

incidentally, do we have a plan for what's going to happen after all the skulls are destroyed and we can (theoretically) access the castle? there's a lot of discussion going on about a bunch of different factors but do we have enough information yet to form a plan?

Any aid you can render will be useful. Do not discount it.

Several of our colleagues are quite eager to rescue our missing companions and will not heed any instructions. We shall allow them to lead the rescue attempt. Those who are more level headed should stay in the rear to ensure we aren't flanked and led into another trap.

It may be prudent to leave a group of people in town to liaise with LILITH and handle any danger that may encroach on the town while we are absent, but we must consider if the townspeople themselves are a threat to us, and given Nanami's message, whether or not it is wise to split our forces.

sounds solid enough, considering the information we have to work with at this point. i can hang back to try to direct the people taking a more active role in things, but i'm not much good in a fight.

it's the villagers that seem to be the sticking point in all this so far, isn't it? we know they're here and are going to play a big role in how we can act, but we can't tell yet what they're going to do.

What is your skillset then?

[ A legitimate question, because LILITH doesn't usually select useless people. If he's not good for combat, then he must have some valuable support skills. ]

My intention is to prioritize our safety above all. As much as I'd like to hope for a favourable outcome, our last mission has made it quite clear that we should be prepared for the worst.

[ For a kaiju to assault the town while a majority of them are gone, leaving them unable to protect a single person in town. That would be the worst case scenario. Yes, Ratio has already decided to write off every single person in town as a future casualty, as much as it hurts him to do so. ]

[Tone is hard to parse over text, etc. so Jamie interprets the query as an indictment - not that he holds it against Ratio, since Jamie is pretty pathetic compared to most of the other people here, after all.]

i'm a strategist. specifically for mechanized units in competitive matches, so this is a little out of my wheelhouse, but the basic principles should transfer over easy enough. i do have my aerial unit here but it's currently inoperable and i have no idea if it will be usable while we're in the village, so i don't want to rely too heavily on it at this stage.

i don't want to see anyone get hurt, including the villagers. it just

[There's a considerable pause here, like Jamie's wrestling with some difficult concept he's reluctant to come to terms with. Eventually:]

guess it just seems cruel to decide that one group of people is expendable and another deserves protecting, but you've got a point. sacrificing civilians now in order to save outsiders could save more lives down the line.

if you're okay with it, i'll try to follow your lead going forward.

[ So he's some sort of mechanical pilot, much like Yzak, Dearka and Elan. That is easy for Ratio to swallow, and it also explains Jamie's lack of ability here. A pilot need not anything but their mind and a generally healthy physique, if the mech is constructed to operate that way. ]

We can further discuss your capabilities at another day. [ When a third of them weren't taken by a kaiju, or a cult. ] It is a choice we must make because of a lack of resources, not because we wish to condemn them to death. The result is the same, make no mistake, but given the circumstances, it is not feasible for us to save everyone.

[ Jamie isn't wrong though. It's cruel, but decisions that weigh the worth of lives often are. ]

Do as you please, but do not think this absolves you of reasoning or responsibility. I expect you to contribute your own ideas and opinions where warranted.

[ While he appreciates someone who will listen, what he appreciates even more is someone who will think and reach for their goals through their own power. ]

of course. i'll speak up if i notice anything or have any ideas.
