Accidental Valentine's Dinner

Everyone could use something nice after that kaiju fight, and what better than a real meal? It won't be easy to cook for so many people, but Raidou is willing to try. He makes sure to get permission to use the kitchen and the commons space, and recruits a few friends to help get it all together.

It's not an easy feat to get all the ingredients together, especially in the aftermath of a kaiju attack, so it won't be the most resplendent meal the Outsiders ever had. But if nothing else, he can make the broth and noodles for some ramen, and get as many vegetables together as he can to fill it out. It takes him several days to make what he hopes is enough, and hopefully no one raiding the fridges will take any of it in the meanwhile. He's not the world's greatest cook, but this surprisingly domestic devil summoner is good enough to make something delicious. It's not like Narumi was ever doing any of the cooking back home, so someone had to do it.

Early on Wednesday, everyone would have gotten a text saying that dinner will be at 1900 hours in the common area, and he comes straight home from school to work on putting it all together. Anyone is welcome to help cook or set the tables, and once it's ready, people can line up to get a bowl of their own to take. People are also welcome to bring their own food or drink if they have any they want contribute. Who's got dessert?

After dinner entertainment will be provided by Yuji Itadori, who has managed to find a small projector to use on the commons wall. All the tables and chairs will get rearranged to cram everyone in. Get close, okay? The first feature will be a comedy, and the second will be a horror movie.



OOC: Happy Valentine's Day, Outsiders. Raidou only just learned today what that is, whoops. If your character doesn't have any hot dates planned in a city recently smashed by monsters and tsunamis, then drop in a top-level comment, have a seat and enjoy some soup and some team bonding. Check up on your teammates after their first big battle.

[ Nanami does hum with a note that is close to amusement. They did manage to succeed in the mission, despite how chaotic part of that battle was. ]

I'd say that earned us a break for now. Is that what your team was like before?

[Taryon thinks of the ease in which Vox Machina fought pirates, imps, ankhegs, and the corrupted angel baby. He recalls the disaster of fighting a Kraken and the tired state Utagash left them in.]

...Mostly? [He tilts his hand side to side in a "so-so" motion.] They just go in and do whatever because they're that powerful.

Just because they're that powerful?

[What sort of method is that?]

It sounds like they're messy.

I learned that reality is way messier than you'd expect. Who really has time to come up with a detailed strategy that will go off without a hitch?

[Nanami is so used to having intelligence managers and scouts to coordinate with that he's completely baffled by the guns a-blazing style methods.]

That's what teamwork is for. They really don't plan at all?

[Just how powerful are his friends? No wonder Taryon was impressed by them.]

A bit. I prepare a few spell coins for them, if we know a fight's coming up, and they prepare for the terrain, but that's about it. [He sinks into the back of the couch.] And yes, it goes poorly some of the time, but they're also good at thinking on their feet. Some of them attack from up close, some of them far, and some of them heal. They all have their part to play.

Does that method work for you?

[ Nanami leans on the back of the couch, not really watching the movie as much as thinking over everything while waiting for quieter scenes. ]

You're good at adapting too.

Not...so much? I rely more on my equipment than they do. It's why I put a lot of work into infusing spells into those coins.

[His eyebrows rise briefly at the comment, and he nods.] I suppose I am. You were pretty cool doing those jumps back there.

But you fought well.

[ Yes, he has a different method than other fighters, but his analysis of the situation and quick reactions were undeniably useful. It's something that can't be taught--the instinct and desire to help. That goes beyond specific talents or abilities. ]

I wouldn't have been able to do that without your coin.

[ Otherwise he'd be in the ocean. ]

Well- [Taryon soaks in the praise and stores it away in his mind to write down later.] I saved the lives of my friends many times over with these coins. Some in obvious ways, some subtle, like in that fight. Perhaps we should team up more often. You dealing the heavy damage, while I make sure you get to where you need.

[Him, Taryon Darrington, the man that can turn...well, super-powered men, not normal men, but still! A man with some magic powers into an agile rogue!]

[ To Nanami, it's an assessment. He doesn't like flattery, which can be insincere and manipulative, things that he refuses to do to anyone. He gives his opinions as honestly and strictly as he can, wanting to offer only what he would want to receive himself, without any misleading.

Taryon might not be a frontline expert, but he handled himself just fine. Better than a lot of people who might have been thrown in their position without warning. That earns him Nanami's respect. ]

That's a good idea. If we're going to be facing monsters that can dive underwater or fly, then we'll need a way to actually reach them. I'll count on you for that.

[ Give him wings, Tary. ]

[What does he look like, a god doling out favors to his loyal followers? Nanami won't literally have awesome wings he can deploy during combat, but...] Then I'll have some flying coins ready if they're in the air, if you don't already have LILITH's flying boots. They're pretty handy, if you have the money for that.

[But enough about that - his skills are needed for those who cannot afford upgrades.]

I've got things that make you faster, too. Whatever you need, I can do it. [He says, overselling his limited number of spells he knows.]

[It's okay, Taryon, he won't expect miracles. Nanami will take whatever comes and make the best of it. He just trusts that Tary will be able to help him out enough to make the fight go easier. That's really all he can ask of him anyway.]

Mm. I suppose they have their useful items too. It doesn't hurt to prepare both.

[He'll have to think about buying more upgrades, but that's a question for later.]
