[ Yuji hadn't gone into the mingle thinking it was actually for dating.

His view of it had been a way to make friends, that throwing them a heart was just saying that he wanted to talk, but now... Now he's accidentally found himself going out with Raidou? It's not as if the idea upsets him, since he thinks Raidou is a good guy, and they really do get along with one another, but he's never dated anyone before. No one's ever been interested! So he doesn't really know what he's supposed to do, a little nervous and impossibly sheepish.

He's glad he decided to get the style upgrade, so at least he looks a little more put together for the date that might not end up being a date. If it turns into two friends hanging out, that's fine too, but he wishes a little bit that they'd been able to make a decision about it.

Hovering awkwardly in the common room, Yuji shifts from one foot to the other. There must be somewhere to go see a film in the city, but he hadn't managed to track anything specific down, so he really hopes Raidou doesn't mind watching something together in his room...

He's so unprepared, huh... ]

[Raidou really does need to go to more places that aren't school, the shrine and the base. No good time like the present.]

Sure. I've walked around the city a lot, but I've not stopped in a lot of places yet.

[That summoner instinct to be familiar with the layout of his city.]

What were you thinking of getting?

I'm not sure... Kugiskai would like anything fashionable, and Fushiguro and Nanamin seem the type to like practical gifts.

[ Even if they had shared chocolate during Valentine's... That was an obligation. ]

If nothing catches my eye then I won't worry about it.

Ah... Afraid I'm not much help with that first one. [Says the guy who has a style chip, but uses it to wear rather low key all black clothes all the time. Not to mention his uniform hat from home. Sometimes it's a different hat!]

What are their hobbies? I know Nanami works in a bookshop, yes? [Physical books can be hard to find, though. Too many things here are replaced by digital items. How do you get to gift anyone that way?] Oh, he seems to like to cook. He took over for me in the kitchen when we were working in there, and really knew what he was doing. [More than him, for sure.]

Yeah, she has a chip so it's whatever, but if I can find her something cute she might not hit me so much. [ Normal friendship things, right?

Yuji tilts his head as he thinks, humming softly, not letting go of Raidou's hand even as he taps his chin with his free one. ] Yeah, Nanamin likes to cook, and I think he does like reading... I don't really know much about him other than that? He's a personal kind of person. Maybe a nice tie or something? Or a fancy pen...

[ How do you buy gifts from someone who is so - well. Nanami. ]

He's great, right?

Ah, he does seem like the quieter type. [One of the reasons Raidou gets along with him. He nods at that last line.]

Mm. He's very kind. Though I think he'd argue with me on that.

[An idea hits him though, after Yuji mentions a pen.]

Ah, I did manage to find a shop that carried a few notebooks. They were very hard to find here. They were tucked away in a small gift shop... [Don't mind checking his implant to search for which one it might be. Look at him, finally using his technology. Like a real teenager.]

This way. Only a few blocks from here.

Yeah... I don't want to worry him or burden him too much, so I'm trying not to bother him.

[ Not that Nanami necessarily thinks that way, but the guilt is the kind of thing that would eat Yuji alive...

Turning his head to look at Raidou's face, he peers, as if he can see into the implant. ]

Yeah, please show me! I want to get him something really good!

[Raidou gladly tugs him in the direction of the shop, only a little ways away. It's a small one tucked in tightly between some buildings in the middle of a darker street, a place Raidou had walked by plenty of times before deciding to stop in, striking gold. Or paper, in this case.

The shop worker is glad to see anyone come in, and Raidou tips his hat to them as he leads Yuji to the section where previously found them. There's not much of a selection, but they're there among the random assortment of things the shop offered.]

Oh, good. Still a few left.

[ It's obvious, as soon as they step into the shop, that Yuji is physically trying to restrain himself. He knows that the last few weeks haven't been easy, and with his inability to tell Nanami exactly how he's feeling... This is a way for him to show how much he cares, biting back the urge to try and bury his feelings once again. It feels as if he might end up breaking if he isn't careful, but...

There's enough that he actually has a choice, and Yuji can feel the way his smile spreads over his face, leaning down to touch one of the notebooks. Such a rarity here, which makes something so simple all the more precious. Squeezing Raidou's hand, he slips his fingers away to reach out and start to look through the small selection. ]

Which one would he like, I wonder.

I'm sure he'd be glad to have any of them.

[Raidou knows how happy he was to have found them. Part of him wanted to buy them all on the spot, but didn't like the idea of hording such rare things. Raidou wanders off to look at things nearby, to let Yuji make his choice, getting distracted by some of the small tea sets.]

Probably, but... I want it to be perfect.

[ Yuji leans back against Raidou a little before he sighs, lifting one of the notebooks up and holding it in his hand gently. ]

If we can find a nice yellow or blue one, and maybe a fountain pen... Am I overthinking this, Johei?

I hadn't found any pens, but maybe you'll have better luck than I.

[Who knows, maybe there are some hiding in here, even. Raidou only managed to find pencils somewhere else.

He shakes his head.]

Everyone wants to pick the right gifts. Mm, I think the blue one is good, yeah?

I think so.

[ He's still a little worried about it, though. Yuji really wants this to be perfect, and when he turns to look at Raidou he's almost pouting. ]

... I'm being stupid. Any present is good, huh?

[Raidou only smiles gently.]

You're fine. Get that one. If he prefers yellow, you can say it's my fault.

He's not going to scold you, is he?

[ Grinning, Yuji grabs the notebook and holds it gently. ]

Right! Maybe a pen, or a bookmark to go with it, then I'll be done.

[Raidou shrugs with that smile. It's Nanami, isn't it?]

If they don't have bookmarks, you could always make one.

[While paper products are in short supply, there is one thing Raidou's managed to find among the junk - a small, fade pack of some origami paper. He hands that to Yuji.]

That's a great idea! I'm glad you came with me.

[ Turning, he takes the paper and gives Raidou a quick kiss on the cheek before he gathers his things and starts to head to the counter...

But he grabs another notebook on the way, grinning. ]

[He blushes brightly at that.] Ah, it's nothing.

[While Yuji heads to the counter, Raidou picks up a tchotche for himself - a hand carved lucky cat, just a few inches tall, that just happens to be painted black with green eyes.]

[ Yuji glances back, spots the thing that Raidou picks up and has a quick word with the cashier, asking to pay for it too before his date gets up there. Holding his notebooks to his chest, he pays for everything then steps to the side, holding out his hand. ]

We’re good. Let’s go.

[Raidou tries to protest once he gets up to the counter, but it's too late. His face reddens all over again as he takes Yuji's hand.]

Thank you. I'm glad I was able to find this place again.

[ He sees that little blush… Pretty cute… ]

We can come back after our big adventure.

[He nods eagerly.]

Sure. On the next clear day, we'll go, right?

[It might still be chilly out this time of year, but it'll be fine. He's pretty excited to go, to spend more time with Yuji and to find out if there's anything out there. Even if there isn't, it should be fun.]

Yeah! That sounds great.

[ Tucking the books under his arms, he pulls Raidou a little closer and leans into him again, humming softly. ]

I want to spend more time with you, okay? So don't forget it.

[Raidou looks away shyly at that, but he also leans back, smiling. Yuji says these things so easily, while it's so hard for him. He's envious, really.]

I'm glad to hear that. Because I really like spending time with you as well. I won't be forgetting anytime soon.

Good.

[ Said with a bright smile, his hand squeezing Raidou’s, thumb brushing against his skin tenderly. ]

You know… I’ve never dated anyone before.

Really? [Not that he thinks Yuji is some kind of playboy, but he's a little surprised.]

I haven't either. [This is painfully obvious.]. Someone with my title... ah, we're not supposed to, um. Form personal relationships.Our work are our lives.

[He sighs lightly, his voice a little distant.]

But... I'm not a summoner anymore, am I?
