WHAT: the firefighters put out a calendar every year and guess who is getting everyone involved.
WHERE: the venue for the photoshoot, somewhere in the city.
WHEN: within the first week of their arrival.
WARNINGS: nudity or partial nudity? will update warnings as they come.

The firefighters are looking for models to assist in their yearly calendar. Last year due to some mishaps, they missed the due date for this beloved tradition in the city, and so are not looking to really make sure everything is flawless this year. Since is no error for mistakes, they are even recruiting people to model as firefighters, as well as looking for people who can act as temporary photographers— in a city as busy as this one, it isn’t always easy booking a photographer for certain time slots.


1. As a photographer they are tasked to make the calendar spicy, but also unique! They figure one of the best selling points is variety. No more poses, the more avant-garde, the weirder even, the better! Like if your thing is posing with a carton of eggs, you do you!
2. Models are incentivized and even ranked (this is arbitrary, so I leave that all to you), so maybe this can also lift the competitive spirit of some! Or maybe you just really want to make some extra kryptos!
3. Outside of photographers and models, also looking for people who can enhance the overall experience. Do coffee runs for everyone, while also hyping or judging the models! Whatever they say fit! People can even stumble into these roles thinking they were here for a completing different reason! Or go out on an errand to come back and suddenly everyone is not as they once were.
4. Just have fun and free to make up your own scenarios! Even if it's walking in like 🧍‍♂️ I thought this was a pizza party.

[Okay, now that's genuinely funny to him. Not just because of Taryn's reaction, but also because Shalem actually can imagine what sorts of strange advice he's been given. "Go out there, pretend to be someone you're not, lure someone in with a charm that you don't have," and whatnot.]

From me, it may come more as one-night stand advice. Then again, you can apply it any way you'd like.

I can always tell him we need to go out together first. [The advice his friends had given him were along the lines of "how to get someone in your bed in ten minutes or less," and a cafe - the center of intellectual discussion and good drinks - was something that better fits Taryon's interests. The best way into his pants is through his brain.]

If he gets pushy, feel free to give him a good knock in the gut and walk away, because that one is not worth it.

Some men just don't like to listen to anything other than the blood flowing to their groin. Pressuring back where it hurts is the best answer to their pressure.

Ah, well, I wouldn't have it escalate into violence that quickly. [He holds up a hand as he smiles nervously.] Especially in a nice cafe. A few choice words will do.

No, no, it's not about protecting yourself. It's about sending a message.

[Shalem shrugs. For him, it tends to be mutually exclusive things... And he himself doesn't have to worry about that because he tends to go for the cute ones. The softer men-- and those are usually the ones drawn to him.

Plus, he already had a reputation in Rhodes Island. Just about everyone has seen the damage he can do when he's stopped being so passive.]

It's telling them that while you'd rather not, you can put someone in their place easily, so they had better not try.

[He folds his arms.]

No, I don't think I will. [That sounds like something his younger sister would do. If she's going to beat up someone, better that it's a creepy stranger than her brother.] If it reaches the point where I need to use violence, then I'll manage it.

[...Somehow. He doesn't have a vial of acid or a diamond infused with a powerful spell on him anymore.]

[He raises his hands in surrender.]

Perfect. I know you'll have my back if something happens when we're together. [He clasps his hands, certain that they cam to an agreement.] So...I guess...

[He turns to the firemen.]

I should talk to them now?

[prozaic]

Oh? You've already gathered your courage? [Shalem tilts his head, before tugging the hairtie off of his wrist so he can keep a portion off his long hair out of his face and clothes.]

You could, if you want to. They're a varied bunch, but there are some good, polite lads among them.

["Lads", he says, funny word with his flat accent with all of its enunciated R's. Some things still take time to learn, like word choices.]

["Lads" sounds like they'll be a decent bunch. Taryon has to be more casual around them.]

I could. Why don't I just...walk on over and have a chat, ha ha. [He swings his fist heartily to encourage himself.] It could turn out great! I'm a naturally charming man.

[prozaic]

Hmmm. [He sounds almost like he's doubting Taryon... Well, he is, just a little bit. But more than that, he's rather sure that this is just a way for the man to psych himself up for what's to come.

It's completely false bravado.]

The charm is important, yes, but also the ability to keep your head on once things start happening. Remember that, hm?

[That doubt will only make Taryon's victory all the sweeter. No one expects the underdog to succeed.]

Oh, I will, don't you worry about that. [Even if Shalem has reason to worry that this strange man will get himself into a predicament.] Just watch me.

[The boost in confidence that comes straight from faking it takes Taryon over to the first man, where he compliments him for the photoshoot and loudly wonders if he could ever do something like that. Somehow, his honest face makes a decent impression on the guy. This evening might turn out well.]

[Even as Shalem begins to dress himself in the clothing he came in, he keeps an eye on Taryon and his quest... just to make sure that nothing untoward happens. A blunder, or an accident, or a third party (should that be fourth party, when Shalem is technically the third party here?) could just happen.

And whistles lowly when he sees the man Taryon is speaking to respond positively to his commentary. He nods-- this is a good start.

The serpent tries to catch his friend's eye before giving a wave. He can handle this on his own, so Shalem himself will see himself out.]
