WHO: everyone!
WHAT: the firefighters put out a calendar every year and guess who is getting everyone involved.
WHERE: the venue for the photoshoot, somewhere in the city.
WHEN: within the first week of their arrival.
WARNINGS: nudity or partial nudity? will update warnings as they come.

The firefighters are looking for models to assist in their yearly calendar. Last year due to some mishaps, they missed the due date for this beloved tradition in the city, and so are not looking to really make sure everything is flawless this year. Since is no error for mistakes, they are even recruiting people to model as firefighters, as well as looking for people who can act as temporary photographers— in a city as busy as this one, it isn’t always easy booking a photographer for certain time slots.


1. As a photographer they are tasked to make the calendar spicy, but also unique! They figure one of the best selling points is variety. No more poses, the more avant-garde, the weirder even, the better! Like if your thing is posing with a carton of eggs, you do you!
2. Models are incentivized and even ranked (this is arbitrary, so I leave that all to you), so maybe this can also lift the competitive spirit of some! Or maybe you just really want to make some extra kryptos!
3. Outside of photographers and models, also looking for people who can enhance the overall experience. Do coffee runs for everyone, while also hyping or judging the models! Whatever they say fit! People can even stumble into these roles thinking they were here for a completing different reason! Or go out on an errand to come back and suddenly everyone is not as they once were.
4. Just have fun and free to make up your own scenarios! Even if it's walking in like 🧍‍♂️ I thought this was a pizza party.

everyone is free to put up their top levels and tag around as they see fit. you can see it as you were messaged by someone randomly on the network about an opportunity to make additional kyptos, or they could have even found an ad. whatever works!

Ah. All right.

[ she's getting ready to leave, but after thinking it over, she walks over to lucy and grabs her wrist. ]

Of course, you're coming with me.

[saudadist]

[ Lucy should react faster, all things considered, but she freezes as Ishmael's suddenly in her space. Her whole body locks up at being touched, as if she's suddenly been struck with a live wire. ]

Don't- [ She coughs out the order, but it sounds more geared toward herself as her vectors reflexively writhe unseen in the air around her.

She can't react so rashly. Not here. Never again.

She promised.

Her free hand bats her hand away as she forces herself backward, eyes wide. ]

Don't...do that.

[wheft]

[ it's as though ishmael's been stung, realizing what she did just now. why did she do that? it wasn't like she was the type to grab people either.

funny how a certain voyage in the city can change that.

she stares at the girl for a moment, before letting out a long sigh. ]

...Fine. Just follow me.

[ the sooner they can move on from that incredibly awkward moment, the better. ]

[saudadist]

[ A cold sweat. The robe was supposed to keep her warm, but everything feels ice cold all of a sudden. Was a single touch really that bad? She can't tell anymore. She doesn't want to think about it either. Her nails dig into her own wrist as she holds it. ]

Yeah. After you.

[wheft]

[ she leads lucy through the crowd, spotting the costumer after a minute of looking around and asking for a couple of ribbons as replacement. and also -- ]

Also, if you could get her into a full diving suit instead, that'd be great. That's no problem, right? [ "what?" the costumer asks. ] She'd show less skin that way. You'd have to be blind not to notice that she's not comfortable in this get-up.

[ she turns to her. ]

Right?

[saudadist]

[ Instantly, her discomfort is forgotten. In its place? The most baffled look to ever light on her grim face. ]

Diving...suit?

[ Dumbfounded, she nods her head once. She has to clear her throat before speaking again, the sound comes out too soft. ]

Y-Yeah.

[wheft]

[ she grunts, and receives a handful of blue ribbons in return. ] You heard her. Go get it.

[ the costumer then goes off, hurried by the urgency of ishmael's voice. ]

And in the meantime, [ she hands lucy the ribbons ] You know how to tie ribbons, don't you?

[saudadist]

[ She can't help wondering if this is how she seems to people when she's growling out huffy orders. When she bothers to say anything at all, that is.

She looks down at the ribbons in her hands before cocking a brow. ]

Yeah? Do you not?

[wheft]

I do. [ said matter-of-factly. ] You have to know how to tie the most basic of knots if you want to be a sailor. And the most complicated ones.

[ she takes off her headband. it's made out of rope and tied in an elaborate knot, like she said. ]

Also, you haven't introduced yourself yet. I don't see you around Brimstone, either.

[saudadist]

[ A sailor? That explains why, as she draws closer, she can smell the distinct scent of sea salt wafting off her. A familiar scent she knows very well. The smell of a seaside town.

"Brimstone" gives her pause, however. That's one of the teams for sure. It shouldn't surprise her that this girl is one of them too. Like she is. A stranger in this very strange version of her home country.

Best then to give her the name they gave her to use here. The one for her new life, for her civilian self. The latest addition to her collection of names others have imposed on her. ]

Akagawa Momiji.

[wheft]

[ is that her real name, or an alias she'd been given like the rest of them? regardless, ishmael gives the girl a hum of acknowledgement as she unravels the white bows of her headband and stashes them in her pocket. ]

Call me Melville.

[ ...hm. for some reason, that doesn't really roll off the tongue as well as it should. maybe she's being neurotic again. but before she can dwell on that, the costumer comes back with a full diving suit that just so happens to look like it'd fit lucy. "will this do?" the guy asks. ]

It should suffice for now. Go on, take it.

[ she cants her head at lucy, urging her to take the outfit. ]

[saudadist]

Melville... [ She has no frame of reference for the name to recognize it at all. It's not Japanese, so it sounds about as valid as anything else.

She doesn't hesitate in grabbing the suit, at least. It's barely been out of the costumer's hands before she's removing the robe and pulling the suit on over the bikini. ]

What were you planning for the shot?

[wheft]

Oh, I was just going to be some sexy firefighter. I only need to wear the cargo pants and leave my jacket open. The crop top is supposed to show off my abs or whatever.

[ so, you know. simple yet effective. there are also the scars that litter her skin, but she doesn't bring too much attention to it. for her, it's just normal to have them.

anyway, she prattles on while tying the blue ribbon into a neat little bow in mere seconds. ]

Dunno why they're making you wear a swimsuit, but assuming that you're supposed to be in some body of water, you can just be a diver instead. Boats can catch on fire too depending on the faulty equipment you bring aboard on it.

[saudadist]

The swimsuit was underneath the firefighter getup.

[ She finishes pulling on the diving suit, but her discomfort still doesn't ease up. Just the fact of having to dress up at all rubs on a raw nerve. But hey, at least she can commiserate with another equally ill-tempered redhead to make up for that fact. ]

Shouldn't I have a snorkel or something then? Or am I just going to be popping up out of the "water" at you?

[wheft]

True, but they'd still want you to show off your assets in the photos. Can't forget the "sexy" part.

[ sure, the diving suit might be a tad skintight, but at least she's no longer showing skin. we take what we can get here, ok. ]

A snorkel could make you more convincing. It's really up to you, though. Most divers would rather use an actual breathing apparatus, but at this point it'd be too nitpicky.

[ once again, can't forget the "sexy" part. ]

[ Ugh, that means she'll probably have to leave it unzipped. Maybe. Definitely good she left the bikini on underneath then. ]

A boat prop, then. Wonder if they'd have a small one around.

[ She might be thinking about it too hard, but hey, at least she's thinking about it! ]

[wheft]

You can use a boat's steering wheel for that. Anyway, you shouldn't think too hard on it. That's the costumer's problem now.

[ waves hand, waves hand. ]

Are you done with that ribbon yet?

[saudadist]

Huh? Mine? Oh... [ She holds up her project. There are more ribbons than probably expected near the ends of the band, but they're small, allowing for the rest of their lengths to hang down all the way to one's elbows. ] How's it look?

[wheft]

Hmm.

[ hold on, she's going to take a closer look. it's fine if a little lopsided, so ish is going to widen the loops to help shorten the lengths of the ribbon, and she does the same with her own ribbon too. ]

There we go. [ she attaches them to her headband and puts it on. ] How do I look?

[saudadist]

[ Lucy is quiet a moment, staring, studying. Just as she thought, the wildfire of Ishmael's hair makes the blue ribbons stand out starkly. The wavy shapes of the tails looks like jet streams used to put out ocean fires. Not bad at all. Perhaps her eye is keener for color combinations than she thought. ]

It looks good to me. Like I thought it would.

[wheft]

...Thanks.

[ she offers lucy a smile. a small one, as though she's embarrassed. rarely anyone looks at her with wonder like that before, and she doesn't know how to react. ]

Guess it's our turn to our photos taken. Ready to get this over with?

[saudadist]

[ The smile shouldn't throw her for a loop, but it does. It's suddenly too awkward to look at her directly. Hopefully that heat rising up to her face is just her imagination too... ]

As I'll ever be, I guess. Rip off the bandage, and all that.
