For those Outsiders on the younger side, Raidou has sent out a blanket text message to one and all inviting them to a hanami picnic at a park near the base. Everyone is encouraged to bring whatever snacks and entertainment they like, but it's not a requirement. Yukata are also encouraged but not required. This isn't anything formal, just a chance for everyone to hang out, for the newbie kids to get acquainted with their fellow Outsiders, and to get a little comeuppance on the adults who got to go out on a bar crawl without them all. The only rule is that adults will be turned away from sitting with them! Sorry, folks.

Raidou Kuzunoha is not exactly a person known for his social aptitude or party planning skills, and it's a miracle he's even come up with this idea, so it's definitely a good idea for people to bring want: food, drinks, games. Someone needs to sneak in the sake, because this straight-laced kid will not be. Not to fear if you come empty-handed though, as there are plenty of snack stalls nearby. Most of his efforts have gone into finding and securing the perfect spot for them to hang.

[If you look like you're one of the newer recruits, or perhaps just someone who looks unsure about what to do or where they are, a boy in a dark blue yukata and old-fashioned, almost military-looking hat will give you a little wave for your attention and then gesture to the open spot next to him on a picnic blanket. He gets it; he frequently feels lost in social gatherings like this, and not very long ago he was new too.]

Welcome. Thanks for coming. it's best we enjoy these sights while we can, yeah?

[Raidou didn't come empty handed; as a matter of fact, he brought cake! A cake he made himself, with some help at first. Turns out Bakugo is a good baking teacher, and Raidou is a good student. It's a coconut snowball cake, dark chocolate with cream and coconut icing that's the same pink as the sakura trees. Everyone is welcome to it, but the first piece is going to Yuji - it's his birthday in a few days, and while he said he didn't want to do anything for it, Raidou wanted to at least make something. He doesn't plan to tell anyone else that's what it's for, but hey, if someone overhears...

If you've brought any snacks or especially sweets yourself, you'll find Raidou there soon enough. This event has his not-so-secret sweet tooth in full effect.]

I made the onigiri, sandwiches, and...the cookies.

[ The bright pink cookies shaped like sakura blossoms are the easiest to tell are handmade. Mostly because their shape is just a little too blotchy at times to be something from a store. ]

You can have whatever you want, by the way.

[He knew he could count on her to bring something good, and it all looked great. He's definitely trying a cookie.]

Thanks. I didn't have time to make much myself, so I appreciate it. How's the izakaya going?

[He won't be starting until after school ends next week, and it's only been open a few days now, but hopefully things are off to a good start.]

[ Oddly, mentioning the izakaya leaves her with a faint smile on her face. The first genuine one she's worn in a while, actually. The difference a decent job makes compared to one where you hate every second. ]

I haven't had to toss anyone out just yet. That could easily change in the future, I'm sure. [ It's a place that serves liquor. She's considering it an inevitability, really. ] It's not so bad.

Good. [He nods, a slight smile on him as well.] If and when the time comes, I'll be glad to help with that. If I have time, I want to practice cooking more a little before I start. Before I came here, I was used to do it for only Narumi and myself. Ah, my work partner.

[ Narumi? The name rings a bell and she can't place it...until she remembers that's his civilian family name here. Interesting. ]

Well, if you hear a ruckus, just take a step out of the kitchen and open the door for me. I'll show you how to bowl with a drunkard as the ball.

[ Probably not literally but knowing her? Maybe so... ]

When I practice, would you mind trying it and letting me know how it is? I could use some critique?

[Izuku brings with him only a blanket and a handful of bento boxes he collected from the snack stalls. It's not much, and he didn't make any of it himself, but he didn't want to show up empty-handed either. Maybe one of these days he'll have to learn to cook. It would definitely be the cheaper option.

He smiles brightly at Raidou's greeting and takes the offered seat.]

Yeah. And thank you for the invite. I think this is a great idea.

[It's a good opportunity for him to get to know his fellow peers age-wise.]

[Precisely why Raidou wanted to have such an event. He's made some very good friends in his short time here, more than he'd ever thought he'd have in a lifetime. Life here can be difficult, so it was best to enjoy it in the brief times they can.]

Of course. Thanks for coming. I'm glad that we're able to do this, really. Despite the flooding, the trees have still bloomed beautifully.

Yeah. They're lovely. I'm surprised how many of them have managed to thrive despite everything.

[So much of the natural beauty of the city has become artificial. It's something to see a last remnant of the Tokyo of old.]

It's been a long time since I've viewed the cherry blossoms. Even back home.

[Raidou stops to think on that, wondering the same now. Had he really had a chance to enjoy them since he moved to the Capital?]

... Likewise. I was quite busy the last couple of seasons back home. I grew up in the mountains, so it was easy to appreciate them then. But when I moved to the Capital it took more of an effort. [And time he didn't have to spare.]

Hmm. [He nods in understanding.]

What made you leave your hometown? Was it for school?

Ah... yes and no. School and work. As a summoner, I was assigned the Capital as my territory to protect. But all summoners attend certain schools there as well.

[Raidou does recall some of the things Bakugo has told him about what their world was like.]

If I remember correctly, you all attended schools that helped you train with your, um Quirks, yes?

[ Yuji had come with some of the onigiri he had made for the main festival and left them on the small table, bubbling with excitement as he places it down and looks at all the other food that people had brought. It's nice, to have all these quiet, fun moments, especially knowing that it can't be too long until they're sent off on another mission.

He's ready for it, just... Anxious. A little worried.

Noticing Raidou is easy for him, aware of the other boy on the edge of his senses, and he turns to greet him with a bright, excited smile. He's always so happy to see him. ]

Johei! I was gonna come and find you!

[Raidou is having a good time, even if he is being his normal, quiet self. He occasionally stops to chat with the others there, thanking them for coming. He really has no idea how to be a party host, but he also doesn't really feel like he is one here. This was something for everyone, like his Valentine's dinner. He'd be keeping to the food table to fuss over things in an effort to have to talk too much. What's important is that everyone else seems like they're enjoying themselves, and that's enough for him.

When Yuji approaches, however, anyone else looking might think a switch was flipped in Raidou. Yuji is greeted with a warm, genuine smile reserved only for him.]

Yuji, hi. Funny, as I was about to do the same.

[He had to make sure he saved a piece of cake for him before it was gone, after all.]

[ Anyone in the world would be able to tell there's something going on between these two boys with how they're reacting to one another; Yuji brightens just as much, excited to see his - well, excited to see Raidou every single time the two of them see one another. It bubbles inside of him and makes him want to reach out and grab him, but he stops himself.

It's probably a little too public, isn't it? He can wait. ]

Well, I'm right here!

[ He does reach out, though, letting their fingers brush gently, fond. ]

Everyone looks like they're having fun.

They do. I'm glad.

[Raidou felt lucky there were trees blooming at all after the flood damage, but thankfully it all could have been much worse without the Outsider's efforts. They earned this day.

He does quickly take Yuji's hand for a moment, giving it a quick squeeze before reaching for something on the table.]

... I made you something. For your birthday. I know you said you didn't really want to do anything for it, but... [He shrugs a little.] I guess I did.

[Yuji is handed a plate with a piece of the chocolate and coconut cake on it, with icing the same shade of pink as the cherry blossoms. Maybe even reminiscent of Yuji's hair color.]

A little early too, I guess, but, happy birthday Yuji.

[ A squeeze? In public? That's a big deal, and Yuji recognises it for what it is. He's happy.

He had said that he hadn't wanted to do much - he didn't feel like it was worth making a big deal about, and he didn't really feel too much like celebrating that much with how rough things are when he thinks of 'home' and 'birthdays' it just makes him a little bit sad.

This is okay, though. Something simple, not drawing too much attention to him, and his expression softens just a little as he reaches out to take the plate. ]

Johei... [ It's cute, and pink, and he can feel his cheeks heating up. He really, really wants to kiss him. ] Thank you. I love it.

Try it first, hmm?

[A tease, naturally. He nods.]

You're welcome. People seem to like it, so have some before it's gone. [Half of it's already vanished.] I made sure to do a practice one first, since I've never really done any baking. I'm guessing people thought it turned out well.

[ hunter is very unsure and is slowly and very uncertainly walking around, trying to figure out what's going on and why he was invited to this. he looks incredibly out of place here and feels it. just skulking around, really ]

Sure.... so, this isn't secretly training or something?

[ he has no idea what a picnic is. ]

[Of all the people to approach, then, Raidou is a good choice. Not exactly Captain Extrovert himself, this whole thing was still his idea. He's not been to too many picnics in his life, either. Not a lot of time for that in his line of work.

Raidou seems slightly amused by the question, only because it sounds exactly like something he would think if he was in Hunter's shoes. He shakes his head.]

Not here, not today. We may not get many chances to enjoy the outdoors, and we're very lucky to have so many blooming trees after everything that's gone on here. So please, sit. Make yourself comfortable.

[ if anything, hunter seems disappointed this isn't training. it looks like there's just a lot of food everywhere. which is.... fine too, he supposes. he can eat. ]

I only usually ever have one day off... [ a year. ] I guess this must be it....

[ just. sits down in front of raidou stiffly. clearly, he is so good at relaxing ]

So we're just going to eat and look at trees?

[the_fourteenth]

We don't get much downtime, so it's good to take advantage. And that's part of it, yes. There is also plenty of food, and some people brought games.

[This is really the first chance Raidou's had to sit down himself, previously busy with making sure everything was set up correctly, so the others could relax. This party is for them, not him.]

You can always hit the training rooms later tonight once we get back to the base. I'll even join you, depending on what you're looking for as far as training.

[ he does perk up a bit at the mention of games, and definitely perks up at the mention of training. what a weird kid ]

What kind of games? Sports?

[ it's probably too much to hope for that flyer derby exists here, but anything that would let him fly intrigues him. ]

Of course! I'm always looking to train. Do you know magic?

[ from his ears, he looks human, but.... who knows, here ]

[He looks over to the few teens gathered round to play Truth or Dare. Raidou definitely passed on that one.]

Ah, no. Other things. Sports would be hard with the crowd like this. Another time, maybe. [He'd definitely be interested in that.

To that question, Raidou has to stop and think on how to answer that. Yes and no.]

I'm a summoner. But I am without any of my summons here, so the only magic I do is with my sword. Unless you're a demon, I don't think it would have much of an effect, I'm afraid.
