he motions for her to take a seat. ] It's just one game. [ he doesn't say more than that. besides, it's true that he hasn't really touched a game since being here. maybe out of habit, he avoided spending his actual free time too leisurely... (that's a lie, he does spend a good part of it just resting, but listen) ]
You don't have to worry about that. Just think about not being last.
no subject
That last comment surprises her, but it lights a little fire in her chest. Her mouth breaks into a (slightly snide) smile. ]
Oh, we'll see who ends up last. I'm a fast learner, you know!
[ But she is going to be bad at this, help. I'm giving her disadvantage on these dice rolls.....
She slides into her seat and drops her tokens in; Ryoji's at least taught her how the coin slots work. The rest of it, though, she's totally lost. She furrows her brow and turns the wheel, gasping a little as it flips through the characters onscreen. ]
So... you choose one of these? [ She oscillates between Peach and Toad. ] What are these things on the floor, though? Small levers for your feet?
no subject
but, he turns to give her a nod. ] Each character has different skill levels in various things, so choose who you feel would be best suited to you. [ he points to each lever: ] One is for the gas, so you'll mostly be pressing on that, and the other is the brake.
[ a pause. ] You only need to use one foot.
no subject
There are so many... I'm not even sure what all of these skills mean.
[ Then Yuwon is showing her how the pedals look. She pays careful attention, perplexed when he mentions using one foot. She tests it out. ]
Like this?
[ She steps on the brake and then the gas, not realizing that she just chose Waluigi as her driver until it's too late. Marcille watches in horror as Waluigi wa-ha-has in his little purple car and they transition to picking their racetrack. ]
Wh-What was that? I didn't pick that!
no subject
but, if there is something worse than being a bowser fan, it's being a waluigi fan (jk, he's also not judging). while in hindsight, he could have timed his directions a little better for her benefit, it's too late to consider that now. so, he focuses on the only thing that is fair in the moment: ] Yeah, that's good. [ ... ] You chose a good one.
[ is he joking?
well, he's definitely not serious. ] If I remember correctly, he has decent impact and spin. He's also a size that should be easy for you to use. [ or that's probably the case from what he's seen. but he supposed this is where they choose the racetrack—
(i used this), and it gave me n64 rainbow road. well, i lied it gave me cheese land at first but i had no idea what that was. ]
no subject
Also, I have no idea what cheese land is either. All I do know is that if we're really doing Rainbow Road, Marcille is going to die and keep dying and never stop. Amazing. Incredible even.
They're on the road and in space now. Marcille hardly has time to process what's onscreen as the camera slowly pans over several areas of the track. There's so much brightness and things going on. She looks more confused by the minute.
The montage ends at the racetrack. The camera swings them behind their respective drivers. Marcille at least recognizes what stoplights are, and once the countdown to the race starts, she panics a little. ]
W-Which one is go? The pedal on the right, right?
[ She was so confident a minute ago. Good luck to them both!!! ]
i've learned so much about mario kart
in a short period of time, marcille has somehow been dealt the most difficult cards, and yet, there is still rng and this can surely be salvaged. when he hears the panic in her voice, he presses the gas himself, but not before adding a calm, but quick: ] The right. [ he repeats, and now they're zooming on the course.
before the cloud koopa (which is apparently called lakitus) needs to step in, he clarifies: ] Just turn the wheel as needed to make sure you stay within the track. [ oh, right— ] And don't miss out on collecting items from the boxes.
Items are really important in this game.
