The look and question gives Raidou a start. Well, an understated one, but one nonetheless. Everything about this boy seems muted, from his expressions to his quiet monotone.]

I would never want to-- Yes, I handed in my papers, even if it took three tries for them to finally accept it. I would never choose this.

[ He huffs, CLEARLY very irritated that he lost his target. But one good thing about Yzak's irritation is that while it's constantly rearing its head - it can just as easily be placated or diverted by the right things. So it eases off when Raidou gives him an acceptable answer to his quesiton. ]

You too, huh? They kept asking me to do them over and over again. How unorganized can they be if that seems to be happening to everyone?!

It makes me think that we may not be the problem here.

It's almost definitely them. I know I filled mine out correctly. When I asked what was incorrect, they wouldn't tell me. They just said to start over.

[Raidou is methodical and has excellent penmanship. He knows he did it right!

He looks down at his outfit, and shakes his head.]

I'm almost certain that they do these things sometimes just for their own entertainment.

It doesn't inspire trust or friendliness to the people we're supposed to be working with, here!

There are plenty of other ways to find entertainment while on standby between missions! [ Spoken with that tone that yells of personal experience. (but then again Yzak's idea of fun is very lacking compared to others) ]

And, from the other things I'm hearing about this place, it sounds like even during downtime like this we should be less focused on amusement and moreso on fixing clear issues the organization has.

Case in point, these stupid papers!

[He's sure no fan of LILITH's.]

And I agree. Anything that is not at the expense of the rest of us. Though, I suspect this is mostly the doing of just Seok Dang alone, not the rest of LILITH.

[Raidou recognizes this is a new person, though, and with his usual polite attitude, feels compelled to apologize.]

I'm sorry that this is one of your first impressions of this place. Let's hope that this is the last time it happens. [The style chip is very convenient, but is it worth this?]

[ Because beneath all of his loud remarks and his bluster, Yzak's got a fragile little ego and something like this is humiliating to him - for more than just the easily assumed reasons. Which is why the flush of his face is still as bright and red as it was moments ago.

Still ... the apology doesn't go unnoticed. And it somewhat douses the fiery upset he has going on since this first happened. And it draws Yzak in so he can focus on literally anything else, now. ]

Have you been here for a while, then? Your name?

Ah... Yes, I suppose I have. I arrived about six months ago with the first group of Outsiders. My name is Kuzunoha. Kuzunoha Raidou.

[He gives Yzak a quick little introductory bow. He's the polite sort. Doing so makes the little bell on his collar jingle, though. Embarrassing. He grabs it with a hand.]

... Let's also hope this will be resolved quickly.

[ Raidou bows, and Yzak in turn stands straight and brings a hand up in a salute. Which probably looks extra ridiculous in the maid outfit, but he's always ever the soldier. ]

Lieutenant Colonel Yzak Jule. I hope for the same.

[ And then when he eases back from the salute (which, for him, is only so much of an ease. man ain't good at getting eased.) ]

The first group, though... I hope there's been a good deal of advancement since that time.

Advancement? I'm not sure about that. More people to answer your questions or share experiences, mostly.

[LILITH hasn't changed much in that time. Just the Outsiders.]

But if your questions are how to change these outfits or the proper way to fill out the paperwork, I'm afraid you're talking to the wrong person.

Oh, that much I know. [ About this stupid paperwork and these awful dresses. ]

But, no advancement sounds worrisome. How many kaiju have you fought off? What have you learned about them from those fights? It sounds like they're at least trying to expand to another base, but I've also heard that they're really cheap when it comes to matters of our pay and our well being if we're injured.

[Now he's speaking Raidou's language - combat.]

Ah. Quite a bit, though it's varied from kaiju to kaiju. Is seems there are many types. The firsts we fought resembled orca whales. The second were lizard-like, with electricity attacks. Both came in large numbers with one enormous kaiju taking the lead. Rifts occur and LILITH gets a reading regarding where it might open up, which is where we know where to be. Only a few hours warning. Thankfully enough time to evacuate citizens and prepare ourselves.

[This is a lot of talking with a stranger for him, and Raidou pauses for a moment, forming his words in his head before speaking them.]

Yes. I would say those are correct. In my opinion. Though they will heal you. However, they withhold anesthetics and painkillers from those that choose elective surgeries. To save them for battle injuries.

So they know at least how to identify rifts. [ He nods, more to himself, committing that to memory. ] That's promising.

It shouldn't be difficult to learn more then - at least, it doesn't seem that way considering they possess the ability to yank us straight out of where we come from.

As for the surgeries ... I guess I can understand saving them for injuries, and so long as someone knows this before they agree to having something done.

But it's also my understanding that some surgeries are so one can perform better in battle. In order to ensure they can be properly ready and healed for that, I do hope they make some exceptions.

There are many of us here now that have undergone the surgery to receive the healing upgrade. If someone gets injured, through surgery or otherwise, there are plenty of us who can help now.

I am one of those people. You can always find me if you or someone you know is hurt.

[Considering the rest, well...]

I think... perhaps their technology is good, but their resources are not. And they are saving what they have for the most important things, which is stopping kaiju. We have experienced things like heat and power outages. Supplies can be limited.

Healing...

[ He knows it's ... technological? Yet he's been here and heard about those who can use magic and that's still something he's wrapping his mind around. So this advanced a way for others to heal so easily ... still kind of throws him for a loop. ]

If they truly are so strapped, the pain of a surgery like that for the sake to alleviate it and other injuries for others on the team to make up for that lack ... could be worth it.

[ Thanks for putting that in a way that gets Yzak to consider going through something like that for a greater good, which is something he obviously is all about, being a soldier. ]

I'm curious, though. How complicated is the process for that surgery?

I don't recommend it. But I also do not regret doing it for one moment. I have lost count of how many people I've been able to help. Both Outsiders and civilians.

[Civilians don't even need to be aware it's occurring, as just Raidou's touch will start to activate it.]

The surgery involves something called nanobots being injected into you. Through the base of your skull. They also insert something into your pancreas. It's... bad. [Strong words from him.] Normally I'd say it would take a week to recover, but I am very lucky in that someone else who had gone through the procedure was able to help me.

Nanomachinery is a concept I'm familiar with. Though not to that extent...

[ The face Yzak makes is clear that he doesn't like even considering going through that sort of bullshit if it's painful. But... ]

A week ... perhaps less if I ever considered something like that. My people are genetically enhanced so recovery is a bit easier for us, so that on top of help would be optimal.

But I currently have no wish to do something like that. At least not before I get a firsthand idea of how these missions are going to go. And I'm already not happy with the way these guys fucked with us [ He motions to his eyes. ] without our having any say in it!
