What-- ( It's not like he doesn't want to do this at home. Aventurine very much does, and the fact they're not going to let this peter out the moment they're back in their own star systems is reassuring, no matter how many times they go over it. Aventurine doesn't want to give up the warmth of Ratio curled next to him in bed, or the way his lips feel on his own, or the soft understanding and acceptance that makes him twist both uncomfortably and achingly. How is he supposed to go back to an existence without that?

Yet the idea of someone waiting for him back home, even if they're both busy men with their hands full, is such a novel concept that it takes him aback for a second. ) Veritas, you know that's unnecessary. Though I won't discourage you if your mind's been made up, considering how stubborn you can be.

[ He hadn't expected Aventurine to react with bewilderment, which only serves to sadden the scholar. How could he not expect Veritas to continue this new routine they were beginning to establish? Perhaps Aventurine would be more than happy with what they already had before they became entwined romantically, but no. That is not what Ratio wants. Becoming complacent in their relationship is what caused him to hurt Aventurine. He cannot allow that to happen again.

And, if he was truly honest to himself, he just wanted to see joy sparkle in Aventurine's expression again. There is so much he would do to keep it on his face. Making time for his lover is the least he could do, really.

He stops walking, turning to hold Aventurine's hand with both of his. Earnestly shines fiercely in his eyes. ]

I want to. What I want to give you isn't just the bare necessities required for a relationship. I want you to have more. Much more.

You're allowed to be greedy, my dear. Ask me for more.

Aventurine is certain that such a thing would seem at odds with what they know of Aventurine -- he spends his money easily, and quickly gains more of it. A man who amasses a fortune must be greedy, and Aventurine isn't one to try and convince other people that he isn't. But he understands what Ratio is asking of him -- to admit to honest want, honest desire. Most of Aventurine's life is filled with emptiness and hollowness; from his lavish apartment to the void within his chest and his mind.

To be greedy-- to want and to cling with it with both hands. To have it--

How much is too much? How much will Ratio let him have? )

Ratio, I-- ( The words stick to the back of his throat, his tongue heavy. ) More of this. As long as you still want it.

[ Aventurine may have wealth and all that it can buy, but in matters of the heart, he is almost timid in his approach. Sure, he is still his usual irritating self, and continues to push Ratio's buttons like no other, but that is because their long companionship has allowed him to understand what Ratio will tolerate from him (quite a lot, as a matter of fact).

Yet he does not ask for more than that. He takes only what Ratio is willing to give, but never more. As if any more would somehow drive Ratio away. As if he doesn't expect there's more to a relationship than this.

Or perhaps it's that he doesn't know. And Ratio is more than happy to enlighten him. ]

Of course. I will never do anything I do not desire. I will always inform you if that becomes the case. You are free to express any desire you have regarding me.

[ Trust that he will set his boundaries firmly. Aventurine is free to explore the depths of this relationship. They'll explore it together. ]

You say that with an invitation to be greedy, Veritas. Are you really prepared for what that might mean?

( It's a fair warning, because Aventurine is certain once he has Ratio in his arms, in his life like he wants, he'll want more. And Aventurine knows that he is not an easy man to love, to want.

Especially not when it might make Ratio meet an early end. )

[ Barring Aventurine kidnapping him and shutting him away in isolation, Ratio is certain he can handle anything the gambler desires of him. Despite his open invitation for the man to be as greedy as he desires, there is a certain line both of them know Ratio won't cross—abandoning humanity to its ignorance.

Even then, Ratio would be willing to throw away everything if the circumstances were dire enough. If he had to give up his life's dream and all his achievements to save Aventurine's life, he would. He thinks he would, though in honesty, one can never be sure until the hour comes. But he wants to believe he would, for this one man who has already become the most important person in his life. ]

Yes, I am. And even if I'm not, I trust that you will not lead me astray.

[ He trusts Aventurine. Wholly and deeply. He trusts that Aventurine will want the best for both of them, and will not try to hurt him with his desires. ]
