And so he does not mind this public display of affection, minor and innocuous as it is. No, it's not that he doesn't mind. He's already thought over it at length—were it not for Aventurine's personal comfort, he would be more than happy to be affectionate with the man openly, as one might be with a spouse. Nothing too salacious—just chaste kisses to the cheek, hugs—things he's seen from his attached colleagues.
So he responds by leaning into Aventurine, the smile already present on his face growing wider and warmer. ]
That can wait for the hour before turn of the year. Or is it that you intend to delight me for the entirety of today?
[ Because it isn't about the gift, this holiday. The true intention is to be happy as the new year comes. And he's certain that Aventurine will live up to that expectation if that is his goal.
He picks up on the stutter, of course, but elects not to comment on it. When it comes to Aventurine's past, he has been ever patient, waiting for the man to reveal information on his own accord. This will be no exception. ]
There is no need to worry about failure. Regardless of the result, I am already pleased that you are attempting this for my sake.

He should remind himself that he can't do that, to put some distance between the two of them and maybe spend less time around him, to be less intimate and emotionally vulnerable with the other man. But Aventurine doesn't want to, he doesn't see a reason to when the reminder of Ratio, of his friendship and consideration for Aventurine was one of the things that kept him from being washed away in the Nihility. The one thing that makes the nightmares a little easier to bear.
It isn't just because of that that makes Aventurine want to have Ratio by his side for as long as the other man wants to be there. There's no one else in the universe that makes Aventurine grin as much as Ratio does, who tests his wits and his thinking like the good Doctor, and maybe -- if Aventurine can get him to stay -- there's someone out there who looks at him and sees something in the emptiness behind it all. And then, with enough time, Aventurine might look at all that nothingness and find something else in there.
Anyway, he doesn't particularly want to dwell on those things right now. He wants to think about Ratio's smile and his warmth and what he'll look at him like when Aventurine makes him dinner and gives him his gifts. )
You say that now, Doc, but you haven't tasted my attempts at cooking before. But yes, all day delight is absolutely on the table for the holiday.

So many stories and fairy tales focused on love and romance as a key point of appeal, and back then, he could never understand why. Now, though, he gets it. This is what truly matters in life. ]
Then I greatly look forward to the rest of the day's itinerary.
[ He shifts away from Aventurine, but not before gently placing a hand against the smaller man's back and subtly urging him forward. ]
Let's not waste any more time.
