Not really a lot of interesting things to look at to keep awake, but if we're lucky it'll stay that way.

More than you know. [ Well, she'd never really kept a decent sleep schedule, even in her first life. You didn't tend to rest easy in the Backstreets, not even as a Fixer of some repute. ]

But let's be honest, it's not like we'd be out here if things were going to stay peaceful. We'll be catching up with whatever it is soon enough, probably. [ And whatever remains of the missing civilians. ]

( seems likely, given the clues. there's nothing to survive off of out here, even if they were lucky enough to dodge the wildlife and shelter themselves from the heat. )

If it's eating people, it's smart enough to lure people to it rather than hunt on its own. But then what's with the.. ( a vague gesture. ) .. attitude change? I got into a fight over some guy who tripped over the curb all on his own.

Could be that in order to lure 'em in, it's got some method of making them mentally unstable first. Like a breach of defense.

[ Anyone in their right mind probably wouldn't feel up to responding to some kind of call, otherwise. Though... ]

It's too early to say either way. For now, it seems like we've at least got some level of defense against it... or maybe it just hasn't tried again since our arrival. But yeah, I'm not too confident in their survival out here, especially if they were coming out unprepared.

( it does make her wonder if it's a gradual thing. like they've been here for so long that their barriers were breached. it explains why the outsiders haven't been affected.

The next thing I'm curious about is if it's for food or.. adding to it's number. Either way is bad, but the second might allow for a chance at recovery.

( although depending on the state they find them in - they might not want to be. )

That's possible. If that's the case, I doubt we'll play much of a role in that beyond recovering them and returning them to their families.

... But either way, we should have an answer to give to them. [ Even with the worst outcome, there's a chance they'll get closure. ]

There hasn't been any indication of the kaiju itself either, just these signs that the civilians came through this way.

There's still the source. There's got to be a main body somewhere causing it, right?

( she's never dealt with anything quite like this before. most of hers are fairly simple in their wants. to eat, to survive. they just have a very specific meal in mind. )

Which is odd. We keep finding shit that belonged to people but nothing else.

( that first mug's drained. she's working on the second now. maybe tonight she doesn't sleep after all. )

Maybe they sent us out here on an exorcism.

Not my first time dealing with something unkillable, but it'd be nice if we could just get rid of it without it being too much of a pain.

[ But she knows it's probably going to be a pain. Tao chugging coffee is so valid. ]

( she seems confident enough in dealing with those sorts. the quiet and reassured type that one could only gain through experience. )

Which also probably means that some of ours are going to get testy the longer we stay here. We also only have so much supplies. We might have to send a group back for resupplying.

Maybe they'll set up another of those portals once we reach those coordinates. If not, I'd be fine with sending the loudmouths back.

But I am worried about people wandering off to patrol on their own. Can't really tell when it starts affecting us too.

Being that I don't know most of them that well, I can't say I'd know if they're acting strange or they're always just like that.

( this woman has seen the Horrors. at least tao doesn't have anyone here she knew prior, so she's been spared that extra layer. )

Guess they need something to do while we're out here. ( going from tokyo to vegas, both of which were filled to bursting in things to do. ) I'm just thankful I can finally get up and walk around some. Sitting on my ass driving all that time wasn't exactly my ideal way to spend a day.

One's alright at it, but he might get us stuck in a ditch. The other one threatened to crash us in an empty desert to spite another one in the van and I don't want to take my chances.

Fair enough. Having all of us out here and not spending every second in the van might be for the best.

It does group us up and make us easier to spot in the desert like this, but also, what's anything gonna try with all of us here?
