It's how I was built, I don't know why they did anything they did. Voice module doesn't need me to have one.

[he pauses for a second, before he adds:]

...I could turn the cloaking off for a sec, but it sounds like it'd probably be really weird for you if I did.

I... don't know. I've seen robots around the city before. Do you look a lot different from those?

Kinda. I think. I guess if you've seen one robot, you've seen a lot of us...

[ She thinks hard, looking at the sand. ]

I mean, if you're okay with it... But you're wearing the cloaking device now for a reason, right? You don't have to if you don't want to.

It's for everyone else more than me. I'm not that used to looking human, it's just easier to stay like this.

[they're out here in the desert, it should be safe anyway-- so.

he reaches up to turn off the cloaking and let her see his metal self instead. box shaped.

for the record this box is like ~5 feet tall i don't know why they are so big]

[ So now there is a. Weirdly-shaped box with thin limbs and green stains lying on its side in front of her. She can clearly read the words printed on its "forehead," but they make little sense to her.

Months ago, she might have been terrified of this machine and its intelligence. Now, mouth covered with one hand, she quietly and calmly takes him in despite the nervous beat of her heart. ]

[ She lowers her hand, brows furrowed, and slowly reads out: ]

It's more like 'Netzach'.

[he pronounces it for her, his voice now carrying a metallic echo to it; the lens of his singular eye glows as he speaks, and as he said, there's no apparent mouth moving on his body. his name's the hebrew pronunciation by the way, it sounds like that.]

[ The sudden flashing and sound coming from his otherwise unmoving machine makes Marcille start a little, ears lifting and loose fists lifting up near her chest. Once she realizes that this is entirely normal and "Netzach" is speaking, though, she relaxes. ]

It might have been once I first came here, but I've gotten more used to seeing unfamiliar things by now.

[ She lowers her chin a little, making an effort to say this properly: ]

"Netzach." What does that mean?

[ That's his name, dummy. ]

Mean...? It's just my name. Dunno if it means anything.

as he said, though, he turns the avatar back on now that she's seen his true body beneath it; even if she's less freaked out than she could be, he doesn't want it to be too weird.]

[ It makes sense, though. A part of her does unfortunately relax a little with a humanoid figure in view, but she'll remember that greenish box and its glowing eye underneath his disguise. ]

You must be glad to be out of that facility then, right? What's it like for you?

Being here is a big improvement.

[ Netzach's initial answer is puzzling, but the next statement is said with finality that she chooses not to disturb. They're shifting topics. As worried as she seems, she decides to look out towards the camp—at the fire, at their companions, at their campers, at the cacti and animals.

Looking at everything from the outside, their situation is still terrifying and chaotic. Out here, though, Netzach is right. It feels nice. For now. ]

It's hard to think that being kidnapped and forced to fight is a better situation than where someone came from, but I can't imagine being forced to live underground for that long either.

I guess it does sound pretty weird when you put it like that... but if you've talked to Malkuth and Ishmael, then you've heard a little about where we come from.

[or so he assumes, because it's difficult to speak of the city without mentioning the way that place tends to be. the difficulties of existing there.]

I think pretty much anywhere would be better than that, kidnapped or not.

[ Her attention is on Netzach again. ]

I've only heard a few things about the way that their jobs and contracts work. [ And some personal details about Ishmael, but not much else. ] Is it really that bad there?

It is. I've never been out in it myself, but I know enough about it... it's only really safe there if you live in specific areas. Outside of 'em, you're basically on your own.

[ Marcille gathers her hair over her shoulder, smoothing out her braid. It had been gathered in a crown around her head before she laid down on her blanket. ]

Malkuth told me there were monsters called "abnormalities" where she came from. Are those what made the other areas unsafe?

Nah, the Abnormalities are what we work with in the facility.

[he hums after considering his answer a moment, though, and adds:]

Well, maybe some exist in the Outskirts? But that's not exactly part of the City itself, I guess. It's mostly other people that would make places unsafe.
