So you like that kind of stuff too, huh?
[ she mimics the other girl's position, chin on her knees. ]
It's amazing what's been left behind. What has and hasn't been found, despite all the people in the world that've traveled and have yet to travel. No two walk the exact same path in the exact same way... and there's still so much that hasn't been seen, that might have been once and never shared.
[ it's obviously a topic she likes, closing her eyes in thought. though... it's more the fantasy of it than experience; malkuth has not been much of an explorer, though she finds these days she'd like to be. traveling and seeing new things, meeting new people and experiencing what she'd never been able to before. even the hardships bring someone exciting to her life. ]
I think those are both good things to like about traveling, though. They're moments you can share with Mistress Frieren, and then tell about to the people you meet.

When Malkuth puts the notion to such words, Fern can't help but think that yes, she does very much like that kind of stuff, too. They're retracing Mistress Frieren's journey with the Party of Heroes, yes, but the world and even her teacher herself have changed in those days, and in traveling with her, Fern learns so much about magic, about being a mage, about herself, too, little by little. For how much she likes to complain about their day-to-day when traveling becomes difficult... she wouldn't change a thing about her life. Well. She wouldn't change most things about her life.
As for Malkuth, Fern tips her head to one side in question. ]
That's a very romantic way of looking at it. Do you travel a lot, too, Miss Malkuth?

[ there was a kind of travel in leaving the city way back when, if only temporarily. but it wasn't the same. they hadn't lingered in those dangerous, barren lands. they hadn't even asked the kids they found there what life was like. where they might have come from, what they did before... hadn't tried to get to know them all that well. they'd simply been her charges.
... no, the outskirts had just been like anything else. a means to an end. no thought to it outside of what benefit they had from working off the Head's grid. ]
The world I live in... is a very, very dangerous place. The only "civilization" exists in a single place, called the City, though there are people who survive outside the walls in the Outskirts. They're those who were exiled for some reason or another and their descendants, basically. The kind of travel you'd do is simply between the Districts, which can be as varied as the countries here in culture and custom, but I never did much of that either. It's hard to leave the District you're born in unless you work yourself to the bone and pay the steep price they ask for migration, or are naturally talented enough to ask a Wing -- a corporation -- to move you over and they accept you.
[ it's bleak. but she doesn't speak regretfully about it, she doesn't speak fondly, it's just... what it is. ]
Most Districts are big enough that you'd see a sight you hadn't before just by going to a different region of it, though. Wild, right?

Her world really is so peaceful... and even though it's certainly not free of danger or evil, it's... thanks to Mistress Frieren and the Party of Heroes that Fern wasn't born into a world ruled by the Demon King. ]
...Yes, that is wild. I cannot even imagine living in such a civilization.
[ ... ]
But I hope, even though were's not exactly free to travel however we'd wish, here, that you can still see more places here, miss.

One nice thing about it is that a lot of things I've done now are my first experiences with it, so it's like I'm learning or seeing something new every day. It's a lot of fun, so I'm thankful that my life has so much in store for me here.
[ it's a bit of a bright side to it all, because she's always been someone who's seen the good in a situation over the bad -- until she spirals, but that's for a different day. ]
