( open; ) summer episode part 2?

WHO: Any Outsider is more than welcome!
WHAT: Dating shows... I was bullied.
WHERE: Between Okinawa & Neo Tokyo.
WHEN: Throughout the remainder of July (listen, it's a production)!
WARNINGS: Partial nudity, alcohol, potential suggestive topics, and will update 'em as I see 'em!

Throughout the city of Neo Tokyo and even Okinawa, there will be advertisements posted by the hundreds (and spam mail to your oculars by an equal number), desiring candidates for a show. While the aftermath of vegas and other bleak instances might have led way for people practicing some semblance of moderation— opposite to that, the people also need their entertainment, don't they?

Fortunately, there will be an influx of dating shows looking for people to appear. They are offering a fairly decent amount of money and are even offering luxury experiences for free for participants. In this economy and food shortage??? Okay, the food may be lacking, but they do make up for it in various activities they have planned, where people can kick back, relax, and romance?

While there will be any number of shows looking for interested parties, these are the main shows/premises:

  SPEED DATING  

As the label suggests. People will be expected to sit down and switch through several partners. In their hands will be a card labeling who they encounter and a place to leave a check mark. They will also be given a list of questions that can be answered.

  PARTNER SWAP  

People can be on a show and swap partners. This doesn't necessarily need to be romantic, either. Have a friend you want to show up with, cool. The only rules are that the pairs who enter together cannot stay together during the duration of the show.

  SINGLES INFERNO  

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be trapped on a deserted island with other hot singles? Well, now you no longer have to wonder. They will need to cook and fend for themselves here with minimal activities or distraction— but, isn't that the point? All you need to focus on is each other! (* They will be ferried to an outer island by Okinawa). While on the island, which they label as inferno, it's also a rule that one cannot speak about their age, occupation, or any such personal details. All of this will be reserved for "paradise." To go to paradise, two individuals will need to pick one another, and if they do — they are able to go on to completed various luxury experiences together.

For those who would rather find paradise in inferno together, you can presume there are tents that act as shared dormitory quarters where contestants will stay together.

  DATE ME  

People are free to use this for just general dates. Maybe, you just want to finesse the system and enjoy a fun all-expense-paid for date in which you get to eat like relative kings and enjoy various experiences. Feel free to use anything in the setting to your desire.

  SKINSHIP STARTER  

... a show where you get paid the more skinship you do. Don't do anything you wouldn't do in a Wendy's though. (That's not how the saying actually goes).

  COMMENTARY PANEL  

Every good dating show needs those who simply sit and commentate, right?

* It can be assumed any of this is just open to general CR you want to spend time with, too. This is just supposed to be a silly log for chances for characters to get to know one another! Characters are more than welcome to assume they stumble upon this by accident, think it's just a basic job and can't leave, film or unfilmed (minus the commentary prompt), and whatever else! Feel free to tag freely, threadjack, etc!

[ Opposite Taryon is a... well, to put it frankly: a polar opposite of a man. Dressed all in dark blacks, the only thing that makes him look like he is ready for TV is the fact that he's got a lot caked foundation to cover up...well, the scars on his face, that still look wobbled and sharp, but anyone can tell that they may as well be open wounds (they aren't) for how caked the makeup is over it.

He is also smiling, but where Taryon's is authentic, this man's is... not. Like he is trying to play the game to the bare minimum. Or maybe he's just a sourpuss. (Or both!) ]

My dream...job? [ He asked, and clicked a lighter idly with his fingers. He is not smoking at the moment (thank god) This is also a loaded question. ] I dreamed of not having to labor for someone else's profit.

[ A beat, and a gesture with his hands. ] I'm sure yours would be far more interesting than that.

[He could be very handsome, if that makeup didn't look so fake from up close. Taryon's smile falters for a second before it recovers. This is his date, he has to play along with the rules, and he asks his icebreaker question.

The answer comes, and Taryon wonders how easy it will be to fill up the remaining time on the clock with conversation.] That is...a serious way to look at things. [Surely, this wasn't his dream when he was a little boy, right? This sounds like teenager or young adult stuff.]

When I was little, I thought I could be a [He pauses and remembers that they have a cover story to maintain.] kaiju hunter. I was thinking more along the lines of traveling from town to rescue people and become famous.

[ some kids dream of being astronauts, or astronomers. silco just dreamed of not mining. :') I'm sure that worked out well. ]

How noble of you.

[ Silco, quite frankly, isn't going to be very good at keeping his cover, but then again, looking at his face? He looks near otherworldly — or at least heavily augmented — given that black eye just seems to stare out. One would think that he would hide it, or try and conceal it with something a little more artificial.

Or maybe he just likes to be offputting. (It's the latter. ]

Did you think you would be able to make a difference like that? Nobly hunting these creatures? Or was it for some other reason? I would imagine those would be intimidating to a child, wouldn't they?

[Taryon wants to be polite, but the dark eye grabs his attention the entire time. To the cameras, it looks like their gazes are locked on each other.]

I was a child. I thought I could go in, skill a beast, get lavished in praise, and come home a hero. You know those fairy tales, where the young man goes out into the world and everything works out in the end. [He waves a hand.] My home wasn't attacked that often, so it all seemed like great fun. Who doesn't want to be a powerful fighter when you're young?

Obviously, that changed when I left home and was in actual danger, but I say that my boyhood dream is what lead me here.

[That must is true, although instead of kaiju and traveling a post-apocalyptic world, Taryon had a variety of monsters and demons in the corners of his high fantasy universe.]

[ He is used to it, and when he blinked his single eyelid at his tale, Taryon will get the distinct impression that he does it on purpose. ]

I suppose it makes sense, children who read fairytales so often are prone to flights of fancy.

[ He says that like he didn't. Sure, he probably got one or two when he was very little, but it clearly didn't leave much of an impression. ]

Was it a shock? Arriving here after having such dreams?

[ Arriving, like he was from out of town, instead of... well. ]

[Taryon's eyes dart to the side at the comment on flights of fancy. It's a term he's heard often as a child, usually by his father when he'd done something to disappoint him for the millionth time. Taryon has been captivated by fantasy all of his life, but how could he not? Fiction offered a window to ways life could be better.

He looks at Silco.] It was, a bit. I got tossed around a few times, but I learned to swallow my fear. [He bobs his head to the side as he thinks of his earliest days of joining Vox Machina.] Not to say that it didn't deter me, but in the end, I'm happy that I made my home here.

["Here" obviously meaning Neo Tokyo.]

[ He notes the slight darting of his eyes, but says nothing. Of course, Silco's impression of people like fantasy is. Well. Jinx. And if whimsy and flights of fancy were condensed into a single person who had too many bombs, it would be his daughter. This guy seems to be a bit more rooted in reality than she is, of course. It is not a difficult bar to cross. ]

Been here for a long time, have you?

[ He asked, his fingers tapped at the table. ] It's impressive, to learn to move beyond fears. Not everyone can do that. Particularly when faced with the dangers so many of us see every day.

Yes. [He answers quickly, so no one thinks that he's anything but a complete outsider.]

Well, it's something you just have to practice over and over again. Or suck it up and run into the fire. But I figured out when to head into danger and when it's best to keep my distance. [Which was learned by living through many kaiju attacks, of course. Not from any other experience.]

You sound impressed.

I do not often see many who can live beyond their fears.

[ He says, because Silco sees himself as fearless. (about everything but...) ]

It is a trait I find commendable when I see it in others. Too few are hampered by their fears. You should feel proud, of moving beyond it.

[Taryon holds a fist to his face to partially hide the curl at the side of his mouth. The compliment - an acknowledgement that he's outwardly grown in the past year - is getting to him. Next time, he should talk up about how brave he is and impress everyone.]

I suppose I should be. [He lowers his hand.] And I should commend you, for being so practical.

Oh?

[ His laugh is a touch surprised. ] I do not think very many people have commended me for that over the years. It is good that you recognize it.

[ Silco, that's because you take everything too far. ]

I would be interested to see that in practice in the future, if given the opportunity.
