CONTENT WARNINGS: suggestive themes, egg hatching, parenthood.

▶ 001. WINNERS CIRCLE.

During this time period, the Outsiders would typically have been met with a makeshift party with poorly placed balloons and streamers. However, this time it’s just a bulletin board with the following message scrawled out on it:

Even though the mission was a partial success, there are still sponsors who were impressed with the actions of the recognized Outsiders. They also believe those who have contributed are still able to provide relief to the people, and should not be criticized too harshly due to their efforts.

In light of this, the base will have an increase of various lab-made spices delivered by a certain sauce company that heard a certain Outsider has a preference for spicy food. Apparently, the spices pair perfectly with their lab-made chicken.

Maybe it’s a coincidence with a certain network name but the Nice Toy Company also endorses the base and creates a whole line of toy guns in the airsoft and BB variety which replicate antique guns that any collector would salivate over! These are distributed on base and can be seen sold at many stores in Neo Tokyo. There has also been an influx of people who are passionate about fitness and training, sparking a trend for those who work out in bunny outfits. Supposedly, it’s something they’ve seen in a prior battle with the kaiju and so the workout is full of intense cardio, and even bunny hops.

Makima’s face will be found on several brands of what appears to be packaged dog food, however it is unclear if it is really dog food or not. Either way, several hundreds of packages have been delivered to base and are stored as “emergency rations.” Everyone on base is free to grab a snack or two at any time!

For those Outsiders worrying about whether or not they'll be docked pay for only taking down one Imugi instead of both, worry no more! Everyone will wake up one morning with a notification that 300,000 KRYPTOS (~2100 USD) have been deposited into their account. It seems pulling double shifts at their civilian jobs won't be necesssary...

▶ 002. PROJECT EGG.

With the last mission ending in the retrieval of the Imugi eggs, the research teams have been left with one major question: what will they do with them? After some initial discussions, it has been decided that they would keep the eggs and attempt to raise them into maturity in order to see if they could garner more insight into not just the kaiju itself, but of their abilities. It is also their desire to see what the relationship between kaijus and the rifts are, and they believe this would be the best opportunity to do so.

The only caveat to this, however, is who would care for them in the meantime? From previously documented research, they found that kaiju eggs are not easy to raise, especially those who mirror lizard-like creatures. They need special attention that exceeds that of what people would typically expect from egg-rearing. Due to this, LILITH is asking for help from the Outsiders to temporarily tend to the eggs. The Outsiders will be working in shifts to watch the eggs, and are expected to care for them properly. It is noted that for kaiju who have been separated from their mothers, the chances of them hatching are very slim, and so they are not expecting each and every egg to hatch. They are, however, expecting Outsiders to put forth their best efforts in spite of that. At least, it’s one less thing to be blamed for.

Outsiders are expected to sign up for egg raising shifts and will get a single egg to care for. They are to be with the egg at all times during their shift, and negligence will not be tolerated. Occasionally, the staff will send drones to check in and also deliver food items and energy drinks in order to ensure that the eggs are being properly cared for. Eating or destroying the eggs is prohibited.

Coming up with names, however, is encouraged, and Seok Dang has even set up a small contest for it....

▶ 003. OPEN FORUM.

As soon as the order is delivered for them to take care of the eggs, a new download will be prompted on everyone’s oculars. It comes suddenly and without any real explanation. When it loads in, people will find that it appears to look like the “forums” of old. They have various topics already posted, including a bolded one that remains pinned at the top of everyone’s oculars labeled “PARENTING FOR DUMMIES.”

When anyone clicks on it, or even allows their eyes to linger on it for too long, it will automatically open. The explanation at the top is as follows:

I see what you all look up in your free time and I think you could use the help.

Who wrote this cryptic message? Their identity has been kept anonymous, but it seems clear that Outsiders are meant to utilize this to field any questions in regards to the eggs they have been ordered to care for. Some of the questions already include “do I keep them warm by sitting on them?” and “what can I do to provide further enrichment?”

While most of these topics pertain to parenting, if one exits the parenting tab, they will find the forum is entirely opened up for other topics as well, including a GENERAL chat, and a thread created by Seok Dang called “AITA.” Apparently, this was all the rage once upon a time.

▶ 004. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our fourth downtime mingle! For the naming contest, we are limiting submissions to one name per character. This is entirely for fun and there is no obligation to participate.

We decided to keep the mingle lighter this time due to the number of player events ongoing. Please do check out the SPA UPGRADE and the ROYAL GALA also occurring this month. Big thanks to Sky and Bijou for organizing these! Additionally, the LOCATIONS page has been updated with both Kyoto and Okinawa. Characters may now visit those locations at any time.

EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)

1. WINNER'S CIRCLE: The heavy hitters/KO winners of the last kaiju fight receive their sponsorships, including spices, BB guns, training videos, and fancy dog food.

2. PROJECT EGG: Outsiders are tasked with caring for and attempting to hatch the Imugi eggs salvaged from Seoul. They are encouraged to try a variety of methods in order to get the eggs to hatch, as no data currently exists. Not all eggs will survive.

3. OPEN FORUM: Outsiders are provided with an open parenting forum to ask for and exchange egg raising advice. However, a certain someone seems to have also included a general forum for Outsiders to discuss whatever they wish....

[ Since Ratio has been barred from reading, an extremely questionable move by LILITH in his opinion, he's been left with barely anything to do. There are meetings he could organize to try and solve some logistical problems with his projects, looking into his sleeping arrangements, and a few other things he could still do, but honestly?

He's just angry right now.

So he's been trying to blow off steam productively by exercising. He's already done several laps around the base, which has done wonders for his mood, and intended to take a stroll in the greenhouse as a part of his cool down.

Unfortunately, it's resulted in an encounter with Godzilla while he's nesting. Oh. He just... pauses, to see if Godzilla has spotted him and how he will react. ]

[ If looks could kill.

Seriously if they could kill Ratio would be splattered against the far side of the greenhouse within seconds of Godzilla noticing him. The kaiju raises himself further up, eyes narrowed, placing his upper bulk between Ratio and the egg as he lets out another snarl. ]

You. Come to gloat, have you?

[ Ratio will stay where he is for now because he can't be too sure how Godzilla would react if he were to approach, or even move while maintaining distance from the kaiju. He's made it pretty clear he considers Ratio a threat to the eggs even though he is also on rotation to care for them and has no intention to destroy them. ]

Why would I do that? I've suffered repercussions just as you have. There is no winner in this argument.

[ Not that he would even consider this an argument, at least in the philosophical meaning of the word. It's just a gross misunderstanding. ]

[ Ratio's making the right move by not moving at all. Godzilla's so focused on thee man that he's not even blinking, ready to move to defend the egg at a moment's notice. Logically he knows he probably doesn't have to, besides if he leaves the egg his form will be forced to change, but instinct tells logic to shut up more often than not. ]

No winner? You hide from the mind-writing network and have your mate defend you on it. That speaks of defeat to me.

[ There's a mean spirited little chuckle in Godzilla's throat. Big guy's kind of a shit head sometimes. ]

Our quarrel is not over, Ratio, do not think for a moment that it is. One day LILITH shall give us permission to continue or the war against the kaiju will be done, that day we shall have a reckoning.

[ His eyebrow twitches at the insinuation that he's hiding from Godzilla on the network, but their punishments were never broadcasted to each other, so it's fair to assume so. ]

LILITH has placed a filter over my sight that prevents me from reading any form of text as a part of my punishment. I cannot defend myself on the forum, considering I cannot see what is being said of me.

[ He takes a deep breath, willing himself not to rise to Godzilla's provocations. He is above this. He is far more above this than the friendly kaiju. ]

I do not desire to continue our quarrel. It is clear that you cannot comprehend what I am trying to say due to your investment in the eggs. I only hope that these younglings and LILITH do not betray your expectations.

[ He continues to keep still if only so he doesn't alarm the Kaiju by suddenly moving to leave. ]

[ Another growl from Godzilla, a twitch of his tail, but he doesn't leave the nest. ]

Fitting. It seems they chose to strike us each in the place that would cause the most impact.

[ Not that he'll say what his is, it'll become obvious in the coming weeks. After another long moment of staring Godzilla finally relents, letting out a smoke trailing huff and settling back into the nest. ]

We share one thing then, at the least. Hope. The young in these eggs are the future, it is our duty to ensure they are not like their progenitors.

[ As much as he's curious about Godzilla's punishment, he's not in the best position to ask. Maybe it will be obvious in the future, but from Godzilla's words some form of punishment was enacted. That's enough information for now. ]

That is not up to either of us. Ultimately, it is LILITH who determines their fate. What will you do if LILITH decides to subject them to inhumane experimentation? What if they decide it's not worth the effort and resources to raise them?

[ He's going to try to rephrase his words in a manner that doesn't alarm Godzilla. At least, not in a manner that turns the kaiju against him again. ]

[ He finally takes his gaze off of Ratio to look at the egg he's keeping protectively to his side. There's a noise in his throat that can only be described as "sad dinosaur noises." ]

Then LILITH may as well send me home or to my end. I shall not allow such things to pass quietly, regardless of the consequences to my own being.

[ Ratio's succeeded in not making himself a target at least. But he's also bummed out everyone's favorite kaiju shaped friend, so ya know. 50/50 on the success rate there. ]

[ Sorry bud, Ratio has to be the bearer of bad news. It's just a little heartrending that Godzilla has attached himself so closely to the eggs already, but that's why Ratio tried to warn people against doing so in the first place.

But of all the Outsiders, Godzilla is the only one Ratio would have sympathy for. It is his kind they're talking about, after all. Even if he was rather callous on the forum, he can't muster the same energy now that they've been punished and he's seen Godzilla like this. ]

I understand your sentiment, I truly do. And I will not advocate that you do otherwise to save the remnants of humanity on this planet. That would be cruel of me to do so. But I fear things will not transpire as you desire. They will not let you go unless you prove to be a detriment to our forces, nor will they allow you to protest in a manner that impedes their goals. You've already seen the extent of their control over us.

[ He should probably try to explain his post on the forum a little better. He doesn't want to be in conflict with Godzilla forever, after all. ]

This was what I wanted to convey to people on the forum. That we do not control these younglings' fate. That they ought to be prepared for LILITH to do the worst. It is... fine if they wish to become attached to them, but they must first be advised of what it entails. Something LILITH failed to provide upon charging us with this duty.

[ Godzilla doesn't respond for an entire minute. He spends it tending to the egg, making his odd trilling noises to it as he goes over Raito's words in his head. He really chews on them and processes what the man is actually trying to say. He hates it. He despises every word that leaves the purple furred human's lips.

Because he's right. Even if he railed against the decision and made it clear he refused to continue to fight LILITH might not even send him home, nor give him his ending. Their technology is impressive, who's to say they do not have a method to compel him to comply. They wouldn't even need to use technology! He's allowed himself to grow close to some of the pack, threats against them would motivate him to any task he found distasteful.

Finally when he speaks it's in a low, measured rumble. ]

You are correct. I know this. I am not some dim beast, some salivating monster who thirsts only for blood and destruction. I think, I reason, I feel... All three have led me to the same conclusions. The ones you have spoken so adamantly of.

[ A beat, a snort of smoke from his nostrils. ]

Defending this world and its humans is the duty, restoring the balance and nature as well... Invaders are a threat that must be removed, even the hatchlings may likely end this way, or suffering in other ways. I have seen the extent of human greed and cruelty, I know fate may not be kind.

[ Another beat and he looks back at Ratio, fixing the man's eyes with his own and staring unblinkingly. ]

But I have hope it shall be. Hope is all your kind has oft had to hold onto in the darkest of times, I find it is now something my own claws grasp at. It is an odd feeling, one of my power and size never needed it, I always made my own fate. But here? I am as powerless as any human, so I shall take up hope and see if it leads me through as it has for them.

[ Ratio exhales, finally certain that they're on the same page. It took them a while, but at least now he doesn't have to worry about tiptoeing around the creature, if only for his personal safety. Not that he'd ever believed Godzilla would hurt him, but clearly he had misunderstood the kaiju's beliefs in proper protocol when it came to arguments. ]

I find myself in the same circumstances as you. Had I access to the resources normally at my disposal, this planet's problem would be easily solved within the year.

[ There are some complicated circumstances that would come up if this planet were to be connected to his home, but he glosses over it. Godzilla doesn't need to know that the planet would have to bargain for its salvation with the IPC, as if he had access to his home, he would not be here spending so much time helping a single planet. LILITH's summoning technology would be more enough to save it, but the IPC would no doubt attempt to squeeze more out of the planet, and it would be up to the its inhabitants to prevent themselves from signing an unfair contract. ]

Bereft of that, like you, I must hope that I can utilize LILITH and the planet's resources to save it. It is not easy, when LILITH seems quite intent on stopping my progress just to punish me due to the result of our... disagreement.

[ He sighs in irritation, but it's clear that he doesn't blame Godzilla for his inability to read right now. The responsibility for that lies solely on LILITH. However... ]

I cannot say I wholly forgive you for completely annihilating my room, but it was my assumption that you would prescribe to humanity's methods of conflict resolution.

[ Not to say that fighting wasn't one of humanity's methods of conflict resolution, but normally people do not bust down doors in a flashy show of pink flames as a part of escalating to a fight. Just saying. Anyway, this is the closest Godzilla is going to get to an apology from Ratio. ]

[ Godzilla chuckles and turns his attention back to the egg for a moment. ]

Do you hear that, young one? Arrogance, pride. Yet we are not so different, I oft think if I were at my full strength this world would be secured within the planet's journey around the sun. It is a dangerous thing, it blinds and removes reason. Learn that, it shall be important.

[ This is an extreme rarity, Godzilla recognizing his own arrogance for once. It's hard not to after how badly his indiscretion has led to the punishments he and the two humans now face. For weeks now the kaiju has been convinced he stood just a little bit above the others, equal but not equal, and in some respects he still will. But as far as flexing his authority goes he's been left in an interesting place of thought.

He shakes his head and snorts, trailing smoke, then looks back to Ratio. ]

I respect most of my packmates, Ratio. I would treat with them the way I would any other, to do otherwise would be a declaration of how little I think of them.

[ He's not just blowing literal smoke either. There's certain more combat averse Outsiders he wouldn't have done that with, of course, but the ones he knows can fight? A threat display shows he takes them seriously in his mind. ]

LILITH does not share my ideals, clearly. This is vexing. It shall also prove troublesome when the dissidents amongst our ranks must be removed. There is much I must reconsider when it comes to my interactions with the others.

[ Which is probably going to be the closest thing to an apology Ratio will get in turn. ]

[ The cynical side of him can't help but think Godzilla's nurturing will go to waste. What if the kaiju youngling isn't what Godzilla expected to be? What if LILITH takes them away immediately after hatching? During the time they'll be gone on their next mission, those eggs won't have anyone with their best interest in mind protecting them.

The squeeze of his heart as he watches Godzilla speak to the egg so softly is painful, but it does not reveal itself visibly in Ratio's countenance. He maintains a stoic expression as he watches on. ]

I shall keep that in mind.

[ Ratio still doesn't consider himself much of a fighter, though he has been taking combat training more seriously. But he is certainly capable of self-defense at the very least. Godzilla thinks him capable enough for combat to solve disputes. That's... well, perhaps he should be flattered? He's not certain about that. ]

Dissidents? Are you referring to the smugglers hiding among LILITH's staff, or... Outsiders?

[ Forget the apology, this is way more important. ]

Both.

[ There's no hesitation. His tail giving an angry twitch. This has been something that's been eating at the big guy since Seoul fell. ]

LILITH's staff I am content to leave to LILITH themselves, they are not my concern. Those amongst the Outsiders whom I've had to declare enemy are the ones I seek to remove.

[ He pauses and moves the towels a little more over the egg. Like he's trying to keep it from hearing what he's about to say. ]

It is my intent to approach LILITH after our punishments end and argue this case to them. I understand their stance on battle between us, though I disagree, however they must see the necessity in removing the... [ Give him a moment. He has trouble with this word. Ugly dinosaur noises come from his throat until he eventually spits it out. ] Traitors. It is a task Outsiders should see to ourselves, as their presence is a stain upon our dignity.

Who?

[ Ratio is curious to know who exactly Godzilla considers among them a traitor. Of course, he does not intend to take the kaiju's word at it and will verify it himself, if the definition being used matches how Ratio would define a traitor amongst them. ]

One of the more vexing none-terrestrials amongst the humans. It refuses to identify itself by a name, abstinent little cur.

[ An annoyed huff, plenty of smoke to go along with it. If his powers weren't sealed his spines would be pulsing with how agitated just speaking of this makes him. ]

On workings of the net of information it goes by the coded name LILITH six nine. An attempt of humor on its dissident part, I am sure.

[ He's seen that username before, but it's a new one. Only recently appeared. It wouldn't be difficult to determine the person behind that name though. ]

What have they said?

Much and little. It enjoys the sound of its own prattle.

[ He lets out another huffs as he turns his attention back to the egg, once more adjusting it's position to even out the warming. ]

When one cuts through the auroch waste- [ Bullshit ] -its meaning is simple enough. It means to let innocents and outsider alike did from its own inaction next battle, though I do not think it will stop there. Such creatures swiftly seek to cause as much chaos and suffering as they can. It will turn on us, this is a matter of when, not if.

[ That is alarming, if what Godzilla says is true. However, he has a nagging suspicion that the kaiju may have misinterpreted a message or two, since it is clear that he sometimes takes words at their face value. It bears investigating before coming to any conclusions. ]

...I see. I will keep an eye out for this individual myself, to ensure they cause no trouble.

[ A non-terrestrial human... there were very few among them that would qualify for that descriptor, considering that most could hardly entertain travel in space. He already has an idea of who Godzilla is referring to, and if he's right, this might truly be a huge misunderstanding. ]

[ Godzilla seems almost pleased by Ratio taking his warnings seriously. He hasn't told the good doctor the whole story of course, that someone very much deserving of trust has vouched for the object of his ire, or that he was told to back off... or that the incident kicked off the anger which led to the whole thing that saw Ratio's room burned to a crisp... ~~thanks to the magic of backdating events in other logs~~

This is not right. This is dishonest, this is a very Human way of doing things. He can not let this continue. Anger and frustration boil up in him again not so much at Ratio as the entire situation. Godzilla takes a moment to fully cover the egg with the nesting materials he has around it, insulating it from sound, closes his eyes, lets out a sigh,

And then opens his eyes and launches into guttural, angry half roars. ]

[ After going on a tiny little rant in a dead language Godzilla snorts out a thicker plume of smoke than usual. His breathing is heavy from the shouting, but at the least some of the tension has eased out of the big guy's body. He looks a little more relaxed, if mad. ]

A confession, Ratio. Days before our confrontation I had an... altercation with the insect in question. It found itself rescued by a Friend of mine, she took issue with my actions, we have been distant since. I gave her my word however, I shall not harm the pathetic little pilot of a human directly. I can not act against it, should it betray us, I will not be made an oathbreaker.

[ Ratio blinks, stunned by Godzilla's sudden outburst. He doesn't even register it as a different language coming out of the kaiju's mouth, since his Synesthesia Beacon translates all languages the same regardless. That is... quite a lot of cursing. But the first word is what really matters here. ]

Did this individual tell you their words were in jest?

[ And then someone Godzilla liked came to their rescue and forced the kaiju to promise he would not harm the 'traitor'. Curiouser and curiouser. Still, there's an unusual amount of ire for the person in question. If Ratio were to say the same things, would the kaiju react similarly? Or was there some sort of inherent bias at play? ]

A question, if you will. I presume this individual has done nothing else to offend you or raise alarm, save for those words. Why have you decided that they are not worth the benefit of the doubt?

[ This isn't Ratio trying to downplay Godzilla's concerns, though Godzilla is absolutely free to interpret it that way. He wants to fully understand the kaiju's reasoning in order to see the bigger picture. ]

[ Another annoyed snort. Godzilla doesn't even seem shocked Ratio understood him. If anyone besides Ereshkigal knows dead languages it's going to be a know-it-all like Ratio. ]

That is its defense that it spouts, I do not believe it for a moment, yet my Friend trusts it implicitly. Vexing...

[ Oh he is so annoyed by this. His tail's twitching like a pissed off cat. The cursing is probably over though, he's uncovering the egg once again so it can "hear". ]

I have spoken with it, I have seen the truth of its heart. There is no trustworthiness there, no honor, no drive. It is an arrogant coward that will abandon us in our hours of need, it will very likely put one of my Friends in danger because of this. The Outsiders as a whole would have been best off if the Imugi had devoured it.

[ A pause as he looks down at the egg, his voice taking a firm parental tone. ]

You are not to devour the vexing little pilot either, young one. I gave my word, I can not allow it harm or allow another to harm it for my sake. We must trust fate to deal with it.

[ He lets out a long suffering sigh and pats the egg gently, looking back at Ratio. ]

I have never been given reason to distrust before, Ratio, not in millions of years. The simple truth that this one has caused it in myself should be cause enough for all to be on guard.

[ Such outrageous statements. Even if this individual is a coward, that doesn't mean they are undeserving of life. But protesting against Godzilla would only draw the kaiju's ire, and he has no wish to destroy what has just been mended. ]

I will keep an eye on them and investigate them. Should they prove to be a true threat to us, you have my word that I will assist you in whatever endeavour you make to remove them from our ranks.

[ This he can promise because he doubts the person is truly a threat. And if they were? Well, there would be no problem getting rid of them. ]

[ Ratio and Godzilla's ideas of what invalidates an individual's right to life are vastly different, Goji's is far more unforgiving over the smallest things. That's just what the dinosaur life be like. ]

Indeed? This is... appreciated. It does some to ease my concerns.

[ He actually nods his head to Ratio as a show of respect. ]

I have judged you falsely. You are some what of an ass, as the humans say, however your intentions are clearly good. You... have my apologies for our confrontation. Pass them along to your mate on my behalf as well, would you?

[ If only this reconciliation could have happened before Godzilla blew up his room. ]

I doubt this will be the last time we clash ideologically, so if you have a desire to confront me in battle, you need only say so. I doubt LILITH will be so forgiving the next time any of us cause property damage.

[ This also applies to the next time Godzilla confronts anyone, but at least he can guarantee the kaiju won't bust down his door in the future. ]

I will let Aventurine know that we have reconciled.
