KAIJU FIGHT #5

KAIJU FIGHT #5

CONTENT WARNINGS: cult-like symbols and implications, brainwashing.

▶ 001. LORD OF THE FOREST.

Throughout the days leading up until October 15th, the captives will be forced down to the dungeons for their “punishments” to be doled out. All of the punishments seem to be completed methodically, almost as if the followers of the Lord of the Forest had centuries of experience. While no explanation is given, it becomes clear that the sacrificial ritual has begun. While the Outsiders may not be privy to what this entails, there is one rule that will be have made clear to them: once the ritual begins, it can no longer be stopped. However, there is still a sliver of hope. On the morning of the 15th, a small message will have been pushed out by LILITH. While they haven't completely reestablished their connection to the network, they are able to get something out.

EXTRA NOTES:
It is an incredibly sparse message. It seems to be working with any information the ocular implants were able to detect in that second, and the information gets fed back in the form of a distorted debrief sheet. However, it does act as a sign that LILITH is still actively working on gaining access to their communication lines once more, and are tirelessly working to send help. With this sudden jolt of a message, they will feel an extremely heavy disturbance composed entirely of rift energy—it appears that whatever kaiju is dwelling here is able to effectively work with the rift in order to negate abilities. But perhaps the clues all strung together have already painted a similar picture as to what is to come, and to what to continue to expect.

Now that the sacrifices have all but been made, it is time for the Lord of the Forest to be summoned.

All captives who have been forcefully dragged, or psychologically drawn to the dungeons, will find themselves face-to-face with the Lord of the Forest, also known by their title of PRICOLICI. The creature is a bit difficult to make out due to its ability to shape-shift: at times mimicking a human wearing some sort mask in the form of a wolf’s skull, and at others, taking on a form of a monstrous wolf-like creature that awaits all Outsiders— those presently within the dungeon, and those that exist outside of it, ready to be lured in.

Or that should be the case, but The Lord of the Forest appears to be a kaiju unlike all others. While it is summoned for a brief period in which the Outsiders bear witness to its true form, it seems to disperse back into the rift soon afterwards, much like savoring each of its sacrifices in a temporary state of hibernation.

(Note: Details of the specific events that happened leading up until this point can be accessed on the kidnapped log. Please be advised that there are heavy trigger warnings for these topics.)

▶ 002. FIND THE CAPTIVES.

Due to their brief communication and joint efforts following the network post, it becomes clear that all signs point to Bran Castle as the place where the captives are being held. This becomes ever more apparent as the fog gradually begins to lift, and the outline of the castle can finally be seen from the distance of the forest’s perimeter.

If there were still any doubts surrounding Bran Castle as a place of interest, many of the villagers will instantly form large groups in order to stop Outsiders from heading towards the castle. They will spare no effort to achieve this. What initially starts off as peaceful dissuasion and psychological tactics, such as using the children to cling to the Outsiders leg and crocodile tears… quickly escalates to outright fighting with pitchforks and other makeshift weapons from the farm. Additionally, Outsiders who have purchased the poison dagger from LILITH will find that the “safety” on it is released, and they can be utilized on the locals with no need for additional clearance. It looks like the network wasn't the only thing affected by the spotty connection.

In this skirmish, the Outsiders trying to make their way to the castle will find that a handful of these villagers aren’t your run-of-the-mill farmers. They’re stronger, faster, and the Outsiders will discover that they have incredibly sharp teeth. They are vampires! Or, an entity that seems close enough to the ones of legends. They will not only be attempting to fight Outsiders off, but will also resort to biting them. If an Outsider is bitten, their bodies will feel almost feverish, as if an incredibly slow-acting poison has entered their bloodstream. But, being bitten by a villager does not guarantee one to be turned. While it is possible, it is a much lower chance.

Once Outsiders do make it to the castle, they will find that there will be several more attendants from the castle waiting for them at the gates, all prepared to fight tooth and nail to prevent their entry. It’s clear the objective becomes to break past them and find the dungeons below the castle!

▶ 003. THE DUNGEON OF CASTLE BRAN.

Following the pathways of the castle to the dungeons below will not be easy. All the attendants present seem to have been waiting for them behind every nook and cranny of the castle. Outsiders will be met with their fervent attempts to stop them. It is a matter of life or death for the attendants and like the villagers, they seem to have no issue with throwing their own necks out in order to preserve the sanctity of their ritual.

Outsiders will also find various areas in which wolfsbane will be in bloom. Unlike typical wolfsbane these seem particular potent and will make the air taste bitter, and cause tingles, nausea, and hypotension if exposed to for too long. It appears even the attendants avoid them to a degree.

For those who make it to the dungeons, they will find that it is a lot bigger than it appears on the surface. A lot of its structure seems to lead deep underground, suggesting that it may even extend further out from the perimeter of the castle itself. There is a certain smell to the place that cannot be masked, years of sacrifices evident in every inch of its walls. There are over hundreds of cells, some still holding skeletal remains, alongside other ancient looking items: an old book, a worn out doll, a bloodied servant’s apron—they all appear to be pieces from a past that was long forgotten.

The Outsiders will not get to explore easily, however. As soon as they make their way past the threshold where the cells are all lined out, they will feel a chill up their spine. It's almost as if eyes are watching them in the dark, and they are. If they look up, they will realize there are hundreds of bats with glistening teeth that are all lining the ceiling, all lying in wait. They are minions of the Lord of the Forest, and their supersonic screams can stun and cause momentary deafness.

To make matters worse, it is not just their sharp teeth that hurt on impact, but they have a keen thirst for blood similar to the villagers. Being bitten by one will cause the Outsider to potentially begin to lose control of themselves and will have an insatiable thirst for blood, even at the expense of their fellow teammates. Additionally, those who are bitten will find themselves moderately more susceptible to psychic brain washing, and may cause them to momentarily join the enemies side.

▶ 004. THE FINAL RESCUE.

While the battle has already started within the village and the castle, suddenly the familiar ping of their oculars will alert them to the following message from Yamakawa—

"Angels of LILITH, we have connection. Rescue your team mates no matter the cost!"

With the connection reestablished, the main objective of the mission becomes one thing: RESCUE. For Outsiders who may have still been left at the village, or engaged within their own horrors, they are all advised to head to the dungeons as soon as possible. The coordinates for the deepest cells are sent alongside directions, with a constant warning to avoid direct contact with the kaiju there. The kaiju has long been absorbing rift energy and LILITH strongly advises against any attempts to engage with it until more information is known.

After half an hour, LILITH gives formal clearance to kill anyone interfering with the mission. Villagers, cult members, anyone. This includes Outsiders who may have temporarily been brainwashed, with the caveat of bringing back their bodies as they may be able to save them.

As they get further into the dungeons, they will find themselves susceptible to the side effects of rift poisoning. It is far more potent with each step, and will take laser focus to make one's way all the way to the last holding cells. There they will find the several of the castle’s most devout followers desperately calling out for The Lord of the Forest, as if summoning its presence.

… and The Lord of the Forest answers the cries of its followers. The initial part of this battle is difficult as the kaiju's abilities paired with the abnormalities of the rift result in weakening the powers of all living organisms around him, including the powers of the Outsiders. However, due to the phases of the moon, its abilities to nerf powers seem to have diminished slightly - they are able to use their abilities at a lower output, or at times they will find their abilities can cut in and out. After five to ten minutes of the Outsiders actually engaging the creature, they will find LILITH has effectively sealed the rift below the dungeons. It is far from perfectly done, but will allow the Outsiders the window of opportunity to use their all in their battle with the Lord of the Forest before backup arrives.

█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: PRICOLICI
HEIGHT: VARIES
WEIGHT: VARIES
CLASS: EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
LOCATION: BRAȘOV, TRANSYLVANIA
ABILITIES: SHAPESHIFTING, IMMORTALITY, NIGHT VISION, SUPER STRENGTH
WEAKNESSES: SUNLIGHT, HOLY RELICS, GARLIC, WOLFSBANE
EXTRA NOTES: This kaiju has a malicious intent to all humans besides those who praise it. It's said it will bless all of its followers abundantly on this Earth and grant them immortal life.

The battle against the PRICOLICI will not be made easy, especially as its weaknesses are not as straightforward to tap in as most elements. However, LILITH will provide utmost support for the Outsiders who want to try their hand at defeating it. While it was once believed to be immortal, perhaps due to the disconnection of the rift and the moon, it does seem weaker the longer the Outsiders engage with it. There are also pockets in which wolfsbane bloom in secret in the dungeon, and the PRICOLICI will evade these specific areas, as well as any places containing holy relics.

▶ 005. AFTERMATH.

The remaining villagers do their utmost in attempting to ground the LILITH medical cruiser, using cannons and other primitive weapons against it. Fortunately, they do not succeed. With the LILITH medical crew all present, they begin their work promptly. Outsiders can not only use the medical cruiser as a temporary base and resting point, but those with severe injuries are ushered in for emergency surgeries and other necessary procedures. Those who can heal are encouraged to take care of the ones with less major injuries in order to lighten the load on LILITH’s medical robots... and Dr. Spim, of course.

When the final battle finally winds down, several more mission objectives crop up. While no formal decision is pushed on the Outsiders this time, they are given several choices.

Although LILITH has permitted Outsiders to take their own stance in whether they want to kill those involved in the ritual, including the villagers, they do state the final request to spare the children, which they plan to bring back to Neo Tokyo. Those who do not wish to engage in the taking of lives will be encouraged to continue assisting and escorting any injured Outsiders. Finally, all Outsiders are tasked to take with them any goods that LILITH could benefit from, including any sources of food.

Once this has all been completed, they will all be encouraged to leave Transylvania behind.

Back at base, they are presently working on the cure for those who were bitten and turned. While the brainwashing element has been resolved through persuasion tech, it wasn't possible for them to fully reverse the other side effects. LILITH staff are requesting those affected to remain indoors until they figure out what they need in order to completely rid them of this ailment.

(Note: The above mission objectives in this section are all optional! Please remember that you only need to engage in the plots and ideas you are comfortable with. If you would prefer your character to leave early to take the others back to recover at base, that is completely fine. We want this to be flexible and for people to play with what inspires them. You are also free to come up with other ways your character can help during this time, as long as it does not break any game rules.)

▶ 006. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to fifth kaiju log!

Thanks to the Outsiders' efforts, they were able to engage with the kaiju in this fight. Due to them piecing the clues of the skulls helping to destroy the fog, they were able to gain access to Bran Castle. As they have also kept their suspicions of the villagers, some even including to sacrifice them, they were able to unearth them being associated with the cult, and able to uncover their involvement. Outsiders were also able to add wolfsbane as a weakness to the kaiju due to the messages exchanged between the kidnapped and non-kidnapped - and so this detail was also added into the log. We appreciate everyone’s engagement in this and hope you have fun with this outcome!

Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the minions. The main fight with the largest one will be determined via a HP-based system (See below). Feel free to ask any other questions below! Additionally, we did clarify some questions in regards to vampires/general weaknesses here, as well!

For the vampire prompts, feel free to work with the setting in how you want your character to experience being turned, and potentially turning others. It was made vague to allow flexibility, so if you'd like to have your character just feed off of people without turning them, that works. If they want to turn all their friends, that is also 100% okay. Those who have been turned are welcome to play with that as they see fit. As mentioned, LILITH will be actively working on the cure, and this will be something revisited in the TDM, or on our quest board, so be on the lookout for that!

All tags on this log are worth 2 points and will count towards October AC.

EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. LORD OF THE FOREST: On the days leading up to the 15th, kidnapped characters are brought to the dungeons to receive their punishments. The punishments are administered in a way that suggests that the followers have many years of experience, and that they are all part of a sacrificial ritual to summon the Lord of the Forest; once the ritual begins, it can't be stopped. On the morning of the 15th, LILITH is able to send out a distorted monster debrief sheet that the captives will be able to briefly see before experiencing a heavy disturbance of rift energy. Captives in the dungeons will also be able to see the Lord of the Forest, but it will disperse back into the rift after being summoned.

2. FIND THE CAPTIVES: The Outsiders figure out that the captives are held in Bran Castle; the fog gradually lifts and the outline of the castle will be visible. The villagers will do everything they can to prevent the Outsiders from reaching the castle, from using the children to persuade them to stay to more violent means. Outsiders who have a poison dagger from LILITH are able to use it on the villagers without prior clearance due to the spotty connection. Vampires are among the villagers attacking the Outsiders; if they are bitten, their bodies will feel feverish. Once Outsiders reach the castle gates, they will have to break through the castle attendants to reach the dungeons.

3. THE DUNGEON OF CASTLE BRAN: Outsiders must fight through more attendants inside the castle as they make their way down to the dungeons. The layout of the dungeons is much bigger than it may seem on the surface—with over hundreds of cells, some of which still contain the remains and personal effects of previous villagers who have been sacrificed. Bats, minions of the Lord of the Forest, will attack the Outsiders and those who are bitten may begin to lose control of themselves with a thirst for blood. Bitten Outsiders may attack their teammates as a result, and may also be more susceptible to psychic brainwashing.

4. THE FINAL RESCUE: LILITH confirms the main mission objective of rescuing all the captives and gives formal clearance to kill anyone interfering with the mission, which includes any Outsiders who may have been temporarily brainwashed. The bodies of any fallen Outsiders must be brought back as LILITH may be able to restore them. Going deeper into the dungeons will cause side effects of rift poisoning to manifest. The Lord of the Forest appears to engage the Outsiders; its ability to weaken abilities is diminished slightly due to the phases of the moon. Five to ten minutes into the battle, LILITH seals off the rift below the dungeons, allowing Outsiders an opportunity to go all in on attacking the Lord of the Forest.

5. AFTERMATH: LILITH's medical crew arrives to begin treating injured Outsiders. Those who are able to heal or have medical experience are encouraged to treat Outsiders with minor injuries to lighten the load on LILITH's medical staff. Once the battle winds down, Outsiders are given several options on what to do next: kill the followers and the villagers, but sparing the children (who will be brought to Neo Tokyo); continue assisting and escorting any injured Outsiders to safety; taking any goods from the village that will benefit LILITH, including food sources. Once completed, Outsiders will leave Transylvania to embark on the journey back to Neo Tokyo.

❀ FIND THE CAPTIVES
1. FIRST STRIKE

— Well, let's go~

(It's clear what they need to know. Even without the earlier clues, it's obvious they have to search the castle. They haven't found any of their comrades in the village so the only other option is somewhere deeper in the forest or a place they've completely overlooked… like a mysterious castle that suddenly appears from the mist.

At first, he doesn't seem swayed by the crowds. In fact, he's already drawing his sword and advancing toward them. As far as he's concerned, they're just an obstacle in the way of saving their friends and comrades.
)

If they're in our way, we just move them.

(He says lightly and easily enough. He'll cut them down if others are unwilling. That is, until he feels a tug at his side, a whimper, and a child's voice pleading, "Please, don't." It's enough to make him drop his smile and instead of raising his sword, he just… tries to shove them away.)

Oya… This isn't fair…

(They won't let go and the mob ahead is beginning to get more frenzied against them. They're beginning to grab weapons and rally against them.)

2. HOW MANY NEW BOSSES ARE GOING TO APPEAR

(Eventually, after some of the children are relocated and he's freed, he takes to the violent mob. He's a flash of white, charging straight into the mob and slashing a path for others to follow. It looks like he's in his element in this sort of battle: He's much more suited for these mob/melee fights.

Maybe you're also right in the thick of it with him. He fights alongside you but largely leaves you alone, trusting in your ability to defend yourself. He will, however, watch your back and make sure to take down any pesky villagers that might be trying to get a sneaky attack in. Like the one that tries to come at you from the side only go rigid in still when his sword pierces their neck from behind,
)

Surprise. (Covered in blood, eyes bright with excitement, he twists and dislodges his blade,) It looks like another enemy has arrived.

(The stronger vampire villagers that have begun to reveal themselves,)

Be careful.

(Just a warning until they really understand what they're up against.)

❀ THE DUNGEON OF CASTLE BRAN
BLOODLUST

(For those who know Tsurumaru, they might not be surprised by the way his personality changes in battle. He goes from cool, calm, and whimsical to excited, direct, and surprisingly brutal. He slashes at attendants, kicking them aside, and smiles when the bats make their appearance.

But at some point, something shifts. Despite his fervor, he'd always been in control. He'd been high off the thrill of a battle but he wasn't wild. Now, his attacks lack their usual grace and it almost seems like he's forgone his natural skill for raw power instead. What's worse, he doesn't answer when others call him. Has he gone deaf? Or maybe he just isn't able to listen to reason right now?

Regardless, he's become more careless with his attacks and he might become a liability if he isn't reined in…
)

❀ AFTERMATH
RUST

(After the battle, Tsurumaru considers LILITH's grace. They can kill the villagers involved with the ritual? He almost wants to stick around and help but something makes him reconsider. His chest aches and twists and he winces. Holding his chest and doubling over, he begins to breathe slow and heavy breaths.

Something isn't right. He has enough clarity to realize that and it feels like he's considering a thousand things at once. His head and heart still work. He still has reason. He still has his humanity. But his instincts feel off.

If you try to help him while he's reeling… he'll suddenly snap at the hand that reaches out to help and pull back.

Covered in blood, physically worn from battle, emotionally and mentally exhausted from the state of their allies… maybe the effects of the vampiric poison are beginning to take their toll on him.
)

[ It's after confirming that Denji is safe - as 'safe' as anyone can be, in the aftermath of these horrors - that Aki feels human enough to find Tsurumaru and finally let some of his own composure disintegrate.

That was the plan, at least, before he realises that there's something wrong. The last few months have given him an insight into Tsurumaru that others might not ever be able to see, and that means he has some inkling that something is off, that there's an edge that isn't normally there.

It's enough that he's almost cautious as he approaches Tsuru, hovering at his side, like approaching a wild animal, before he reaches out to press a soft hand to his cheek, heedless of the blood and gore that might be there. It doesn't bother Aki; he's seen worse. ]

Tsuru.

[ He sighs softly, their foreheads touching. ]

(There's another presence nearby and he goes still and alert. He feels more focused than usual and not in a way that really feels good. But this presence feels familiar so he focuses on that instead. It doesn't take him long to realize who it is and bites down this growing, familiar and unfamiliar urge welling inside him to strike again.

And he feels a familiar touch. It makes him unclench his jaw and reflexively, he leans into his palm.

When he feels like he's lost a part of his humanity, what could be a better cure than the man who makes him feel more human?
)

Aki.

(Giving a small but confident smile. He has to show off.)

I look like a crane like this.

[personal profile] lifeprice 2024-10-16 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You look beautiful.

[ Aki might say that all the time, might say it without the words holding as much meaning to an outsider, but whenever he says it he means it; to him, Tsurumaru is beautiful. Fresh out of the baths, curled up beside him in bed, coated in blood as he's fought to save the people that matter most to them... Why wouldn't Aki think him the most beautiful creature in the world?

Turning his head, he nudges their noses together before he leans back, but he doesn't draw away. His finger brushes over the shape of Tsuru's cheekbone instead, his head tilted.

Aki looks a little messy himself, looks a little torn asunder, at least emotionally, but he's holding it together, for now. Just for now. ]

You did well?
cranekin: (pic#15469456)

[personal profile] cranekin 2024-10-18 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
("You look beautiful." He says in response and Tsurumaru practically preens. For all of the trouble his beauty has gotten him into in the past, he's still proud of his appearance.

He nuzzles against him and then holds still, holding his face up high so he can give Aki his best angle but when he's like this, facing him directly, not shying away... there are signs. He's clearly worn but putting up a front but his eyes are still sharp, bright and not quite human. It's not uncommon to see that look in his eye, especially in battle, but shouldn't he have calmed down by now?
)

... I always do.

(Reaching to place a hand over Aki's, he holds it to his face and steps closer. He wants to be in his presence, he wants to be right here. Maybe if he stays here, he can bring himself back down,)

I didn't get to see you. (He sounds disappointed. They'd split up to cover more ground looking for the missing. They'd missed each other for much of the battle.) And you?

(How did he do?)
lifeprice: (pic#16920278)

[personal profile] lifeprice 2024-10-19 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It comes out too easily, but maybe that's because Aki has always been one of the more 'insane' members of Public Safety; why wouldn't he think someone who had pushed themselves, had worked hard, had done their best was beautiful? He's the kind of man who sold himself, life and blood and body parts, to devils in the hope of becoming stronger... To see Tsurumaru be strong is a gift to him.

He survived. Isn't that enough?

One arm wraps around Tsurumaru's body, heedless of the eyes that might peek at them as he draws the other man closer, leaning in to press their foreheads together in a soft, careful brush of affection and tenderness. Turning his hand, he links their fingers together, resisting the urge to grab Tsurumaru more and kiss him breathless.

Hair a tangled mess, a little matted with grime and dirt, he shakes his head. ]

I'm fine. I did fine.

[ His arm is sore, and he'll need to recharge his rocket launcher, but that's fine. He can handle that. ]

I need to clean up.

[There are orders to head to the castle, to rescue their kidnapped teammates above all else, but he can't find it in him to march forward just yet. He's usually good at following orders, it's easier that way, but he can't ignore what's happening to these people, or more honestly, the children. Cultists who chose to swallow this garbage and are willing to die for it is one thing, the children who are only guilty of obeying their parents, that's a harder pill to swallow.

So he's decided to linger behind for just a bit, mainly for situations just like this. He already has a handful of kids locked up in the church and it looks like he just found a new one to add.

The villagers surrounding the outsider are suddenly knocked aside, being flung to the ground by the swing of a ridiculously large cross. Just enough to make his way to the kid sadly clinging to the outsider. If anyone's jabbing at him, he ignores it, instead grabbing the kid by the back of the collar and hefting him up under his free arm where he holds him there despite the immediate kicking-fuss the kid makes. ]

(It's hard fighting one handed and it's hard fighting with an extra weight clinging down onto him. His greatest strength has always been his skill and agility and this is practically the equivalent of clipping a wing on a bird.

The mob doesn't seem to care much for the child. They use them as an opportunity to take advantage of Tsurumaru and try to get an easy hit in. He's able to parry but... well, let's just say he's relieved when someone comes to his aid,
)

Good.

(He feels so much lighter already,)

Using children as pawns... How unforgivable.

(Maybe that's why when another villager gets up to get another swing in, Tsurumaru just.... kicks them back down.)

It's pretty messed up-ouch, hey!

[He jostles the kid in his grip that's suddenly biting at his arm, but doesn't pay it much mind otherwise.

There's a hell of a lot to say about parents and other trusted adults of the village manipulating and brainwashing kids into throwing their own lives away for the will of some crazy cultists, but there's no reason to spend the effort ranting about it. This happens too easily. And the only silver lining in this whole fucked up thing is that he won't feel too bad about the newly orphaned kids that's sure to come from this battle with the outsiders. They're better off if this is how the people that are supposed to love them treat them.]

I'm trying to grab the ones I can. Lockin' em up in the church.

[Both so they don't hinder the ones gung-ho on rescuing the missing outsiders, and so they don't have to witness or experience too much violence.]

They ain't making it easy though.

[He aims his cross at more coming towards them, bullets scattering the ground in front of their feet to keep them at bay.]

I need to drop this one off, but if you need a path, I can hold 'em of for a few.

[personal profile] cranekin 2024-10-18 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
In the church...?

(Don't mind him stepping on the chest of the exact same villager he'd kicked earlier. Maybe it's weird to see someone speak so calmly while beating and keeping another person down Tsurumaru has other things to worry about.

He surveys the situation briefly. It's only just getting started and there are still quite a few children caught up in everything...
)

... Let's remove as many as we can.

(He can allow this detour. There are only so many things that would get him to deviate from his initial charge. One doesn't just do time at a shrine for children's futures and just shrug that off easily, though.)

I'll clear the path. You grab them.
eyeofmyass: (pic#17395873)

[personal profile] eyeofmyass 2024-10-18 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[It seems a little violent to kick a man already down, but considering what he's done himself, he'd be a hypocrite, and an asshole wasting time, if he bothered to comment on it. He gets it. These people are assholes. Manipulated, maybe, desperate and empty enough to cling to a violent god, but they still deserve to be held accountable for what they're doing. There's no brainwashing mark on their necks, nothing that proves they didn't willingly accept this role. So a chest stomp seems fair.

Kids though, they're just following their parents, trusting in them to carve the best path forward. It's hard not to sympathize with them. At least for him. Honestly, he wouldn't hold anyone else up to that standard either.

Which is why there's obvious surprise that the other outsider is willing to put the time into helping. It fades, and instead he grins, grateful. There's too many kids and far too many strong Outsiders. He could definitely use the help before the deaths stack up too high.

He nods, shifting his cross so he can slip an arm through a strap and carry it like a backpack. It only gives him two arms for kids and he's got one now, but that's double he can save when he has to worry about fighting at the same time.]

Lead the way.

[ It's only luck that Ratio happens to be in the vicinity when Tsurumaru doubles over, causing the scholar to immediately change course and beeline for the ailing man.

Only for Tsurumaru to snap at the hand that reaches out towards him. Ratio recoils, but doesn't back away, instead taking the time to scan the man from head to toe.
]

I'm here to help. Tell me what's wrong.

[ There's tension in his body, waiting, watching for any sort of reaction from the humanized sword. ]

[personal profile] cranekin 2024-10-16 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
(As soon as he snaps, he regrets it. While Ratio holds his ground, Tsurumaru is the one who takes the step back, trying to put a little more distance between them.

He feels warm, almost feverish as the poison rushes through his bloodstream and he exhales slowly, trying to regain some of his calm.
)

...

(It isn't working.)

I can't calm down.

(He still feels on edge. Too sharp.)

[ Ratio allows Tsurumaru to put distance in between them, relaxing his stance as he does so. He observes the man, taking stock of all the injuries. ]

Describe how you're feeling.

I don't know. (He really doesn't and he raises a hand over his face, covering his nose and mouth like he might be ill. It's hard to really get a look at what his injuries may be. There's dried blood in his hair and scratches on his face. Much of his body had been protected by LILITH's suit but there are still areas that are more vulnerable to attack. Though his gloves cover much of his injuries, it's clear that his hands are covered in blood too. ) I can't explain it.

... Not like you would.

(Not like a human would.)

Like a fire... and I'm being stacked and folded again and again. (Like a sword being pounded over a flame. (Feverish and dizzy).) And my mouth... (He opens his mouth to say something but it only twists and frowns,) It's like dry clay. (Not like the rich clay that was used to temper and strengthen blades in the past. (Thirsty).) And when I breathe... It's jagged and sharp.

(Not painful. But jagged and sharp, like a damaged blade, chipped and worn and cracked. )

Not straight or curved but... all twisted and wrong.

(Like he said, the way he feels can't be described the way most would. Pulling his hand away to look down at his fingers, stretched out and dirty as they are. He's quiet for a long while as he closes his hands into fists and opens them up again,)

... Damaged.

[ Ratio considers the odd descriptions. Tsurumaru is a personified sword, so his words are like analogies that must be deciphered. While Ratio is hardly a professional at sword-wielding or sword-smithing, he knows enough about material sciences to have a vague idea how swords might be made.

Given their enemies, the analogies are made clear to him in an instant.
]

If you've been bitten by one of the 'vampires', then you are likely feeling the effects of their venom. Have any of your teeth grown much longer? Do you feel a hunger that is difficult to quell?

[ Ratio shifts to ensure he's in a position to defend himself should Tsurumaru suddenly lunge at him, but remains put, eyes scanning the other for signs of him having turned. ]

❀ THE DUNGEON OF CASTLE BRAN

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-10-17 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Dark and dank, the scent of blood and metal pervades the walls and crawls through the air with oily fingers. Bakugo's never been to a prison before, much less a dungeon, outside of some video games, comic books, and TV shows. Reality is a strike in the face, yet he charges through without hesitation or fear. Alert to traps and ambushes, the young hero blitzes from one room to the next, clearing hallways with a volley of explosions in front of him and leaving a smoking scorched stone path behind him.

Two weeks of suspicion, a few days of anxious worry, a night of fear, it's enough to drive normally nice and calm people to a far more frenzied state. Bakugo's seen some Outsiders he's always thought to be gentle and composed become something darker. Violent and callous, almost crazed in determination or revenge. He's not completely free of those feelings either, particularly as the lines between humanity and undead begin to blur.

But letting someone he knows and more than tolerates spiral off into a psycho? Fuck that. Explosions snap and burst in rapid succession, spinning him across the stone room before one hand slams into Tsurumaru's back. Half to smack him, half to scoop him right off the ground via fisted clothes. Bakugo's quick to try and catch his sword arm before the guy skewers him.]

Oy! Calm down, Jiji! You're gonna cut your own allies to pieces!
cranekin: (pic#15469797)

[personal profile] cranekin 2024-10-18 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
(It wouldn't happen if he was more himself than he is now but he feels a heavy had on his back that sends him stumbling ahead and his first instinct, as soon as he regains his balance, is to swing in defense. Any other time, he would have recognized the booms, the heat, and the voice before even acting but this time is different.

It's now that Bakugo can probably see the flash in his eye, the way his pupils are narrow and slit to reveal that inhuman side of him. He's looked like this before. In the past, he'd always been excited but in control. This time, it's more wild, darker, and a little more distant.

At first, he growls at Bakugo (again, something not normal for him) and then he freezes. There's another flash and he looks surprised. His expression drops and the tension in his body relaxes almost instantly. He recognizes this boy and realizing the situation, he's horrified.
)

[Smacking someone in the middle of a blood-crazed warpath is a stupid idea. But grabbing Tsurumaru in a bear hug or clapping a hand on his shoulder was asking to get a reverse stab from the front. He respects the swordsman's skills enough to avoid risking it. The impact makes him stumble and throws Tsurumaru off his balance for just enough a moment that Bakugo can get a position ready to defend himself and catch the resulting swing.

Shit, what's with those eyes? How many Outsiders are running around with cat eyes when they get mad? That makes three of four now. Bakugo shoves the thought aside as he holds onto Tsurumaru's wrist, not tight enough to make him drop the sword, but hopefully enough not to get the thing swiveled and poked into the side of his head.]

Back to normal, huh? [That was fast. Good.] You didn't cut anyone on our side. [Getting that potential guilt out of the way before Tsurumaru can horrify himself with unnecessary guilt. The rest...]

I don't know how many of these bastards are still human or not. [He eases off the sword spirit's arm, glancing around the downed enemies.] Is this like those spirits you battled with the other swords in your world?
cranekin: (pic#15469466)

[personal profile] cranekin 2024-10-19 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
("Back to normal" he says and Tsurumaru's mind races. When had he stopped being normal? It's like one moment, he was riding the high of another battle and the next, he was caught up in something else. It happened so quickly, he can't even pin point exactly what could have triggered it. It's while thinking about it more that he realizes...)

...No.

(He's not back to normal. He can hear the blood roaring in his ears, feel it burning through him, and his heart pounding so hard it might burst from his ribs. His mouth feels dry and he licks his lips to try and get some moisture back. Something doesn't feel quite right but right now, with so many other things to worry about, he can't put his finger on it.

He pulls his arm back and lowers his sword to show he won't do anything else but his hand clenches the handle tightly. Now isn't the time to figure things out. He's well enough he can think about it later.

Until then, he wills himself to refocus on Bakugo's question and frowns,
)

Nothing I've seen personally. (But that doesn't mean he doesn't know anything,) I've heard stories from other swords.

There's a phenomenon where the humans within a certain time lose themselves. (A certain "time" he says. Has he ever mentioned what his mission was back home to Bakugo? If not, maybe it's because of his current condition that he lets the word slip, ) They become wild and desperate. They'll attack anyone to protect what they have... even if what they want to protect is wrong.
blastedass: by bokunoicons @ tumblr (💥 Unusual birds for spring...)

[personal profile] blastedass 2024-10-19 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Bakugo watches the sword carefully with narrowed eyes, half curious if he'd been possessed or bitten. The effects weren't immediate for everyone and he could have gone berserk against his new allies as much as a time bomb waiting to go off on his previous ones. Luckily it seems Tsurumaru's coming back to his senses. Must've been battle craze.]

Uh-huh. You recognize me though. [He wasn't asking if he felt like his happy cheery self, dammit. Only whether he's able to recognize friend from foe and isn't lost in violence swings of blood. Bakugo doesn't expect any of the Outsiders to walk in here calm and fresh after what they've been through. Even people like Ratio and Raidou are dealing with heightened emotions and nigh mood swings of aggression. Bakugo had to get snapped out of it earlier himself.

When Tsurumaru lowers his sword, the young hero lets his arm go and drops his own to the side. He lifts the other and inspects his bracer's tank level. "Tch" clicks his tongue. Not full yet. He can't use this part of his gear in the confines of the dungeon though. It'd bring the ceiling down on them.]

That's not a phenomenon. That's called obsession or drive. [Bakugo focuses on Tsurumaru once more, though doesn't miss the "time" comment. At best he knows the other swords were created (recalled?) to deal with people fucking around with history.] Villains back home used to do that as well, especially when they're losing. [Hysterical strength. A cornered animal. Fight or flight. Maybe that is a phenomenon... Whatever.] We can't lose ourselves here. These bastards will take advantage of it.

((OOC: I say a little later because Dan Heng would not be immediately up and about after Everything lol but wanna come say hiiiii))

[Dan Heng had gone back to retrieve some items from the inn after everything...things he didn't think to store in subspace until it was too late and he was taken. He had to make sure....it may be foolish to go back for a badge and some paper crafts, but the thought of losing them forever bothered him quite a bit. He'll take some food as well, trying...very hard not to look too hard at the fires and carnage around him.

He feels sick. Numb. Helpless. Exhausted. But still he traverses the area the best he can with the wheelchair given him. His powers aren't fully back yet, but he can use cloudhymn to get to less accessible areas....

Dan Heng almost misses the figure in white hunched over on the ground. The blood stands out starkly on their clothing...he can hear the ragged breathing. Concern pushes through the numbness, and he approaches, faster when he recognizes them. Him.
]

Tsuru-

[A flash of teeth, almost like the swipe of a blade, and Dan Heng draws back suddenly, holding his hands up as if in surrender. He...remembers lashing out at Wolfwood before too...he's not entirely surprised. Dan Heng takes a steadying breath, his voice gentle and steady.] Tsurumaru. It's me, Dan Heng. [He offers a faint smile.] It...appears I found you first. [Referring to the messages he'd managed to receive upon being carried out of the castle.]

Do you...remember where you are?

(Dan Heng doesn't know yet. No matter how human he may look and act, at the end of the day, he isn't. There are signs. Sometimes he sounds older than he really is and at other times, he seems a little more distant and seems to be observing the human members of their group with foreign wonder.

But then there are the times when he's in battle and his true nature really comes out; sharp, every move made to kill, and perfectly in his element. He smiles, he laughs, he looks best covered in blood, and his eyes... His eyes always burn bright, sharper, and his pupils go narrow and slit. It's a look he usually reserves only for the battlefield but here he is right now, still wearing it well after the battle is over.
)

... Kara-bou?

(No, that isn't right and he shakes his head. He takes long calming breaths, inhaling and exhaling slowly as he tries to recenter himself. Dan Heng. This is Dan Heng. That's right.

He closes his eyes and opens them again, focusing them on Dan Heng. There's still that non-human quality to them but it's less intense now.
)

Dan Heng.

(He's got it right this time and he takes another moment to answer. He knows where he is. That's an easy question to answer.)

... In the village. It's over.

(The battle is over so why does he still feel so sharp? He frowns. Why does he still want to cut, cut, cut?)

[Slit eyes…funny enough, against the light of the fires around them, Dan Heng’s pupils would match. He's not human either. They can both pass for such but they're…not. Dan Heng’s pupils narrow like a dragon’s would, reptillian and just a little wild. A little afraid. Tsurumaru’s are like the cut of a sword through cloth, through skin.

The man in bloodstained white wears an expression that's eerily familiar to Dan Heng, one that makes him swallow down the urge to run. Bloodthirsty, mara-mad…but…this isn't Blade. This is…Tsurumaru. A man who loves children, and got excited over the smallest things in the shops they visited.

A friend.
]

Kara…?

[Caribou? No…that's a name. Not his. Tsurumaru is…lost. Like Dan Heng was, in the dungeons. His memories around that are blurry….but he remembers what tethered him when everything seemed so uncertain.

Thankfully Tsurumaru seems to come back to himself a little, recognizing Dan Heng as himself. That settles some of his nerves, and the dragon smiles softly, trying to be encouraging.
] That's right. Dan Heng. That's me. You’re in Brasov, remember? [Or what's left of it…] It's over.

[Dan Heng moves the wheelchair a little closer, reaching out but not touching Tsurumaru. Not yet. The man snapped at him earlier. He doesn't want to upset him further.] Can I touch you? [He will find a way out of this chair if Tsurumaru says yes.] I…found it. Grounding, before. If it won't help though, we can just…talk. It's okay.

(Tsurumaru is a different sort of blade, don't worry, Dan Heng.

Gritting his teeth, it's clear there's still some level of discomfort. For someone who is known for always being in control of his emotions, not being able to rein himself in properly is frustrating. Focusing on himself isn't helping him at all so instead he tries to find a distraction. Gold eyes dart about and settle on Dang Heng.

Dan Heng who was missing. Dan Heng who was finally rescued and is now in a wheelchair in front of him. That last part surprises him. How is he just now noticing it? Still dazed, he holds his ground and considers Dan Heng's request. He'd have to come closer or lean down for him to really reach him.
)

...

(Suddenly, he drops. He sits down on the ground, legs crossed and bows his head so Dan Heng can touch his crown.)
