DOWNTIME MINGLE #6 (now with team building!)

DOWNTIME MINGLE #6 + TEAM BUILDING

CONTENT WARNINGS: violence, flashing imagery

β–Ά 001. STATE OF THE BASE.

It's been a suspiciously sleepy past few months back on LILITH's base. The onslaught of Transylvania has left some Outsiders with both physical and mental wounds that still may need tending to. Some may still be participating in LILITH's on base therapy services or rehabilitation services for those who needed a prosthetic, teaching Outsiders how to accommodate to their prothetics efficiently.

The Imugi eggs from last year have hatched! Two new Imugis have been taken care of in a RESTRICTED area for observation, one male and one female. The rest of the Imugi, unfortunately, did not make it. Outsiders may visit these Imugi from behind glass if they wish; this is part of the RESTRICTED area on base. Any Outsiders who might have been cleared to help with this project will see that the Imugi sleep a lot. They are mostly active at dawn and dusk, but especially for the cold season, they are sluggish and want to rest during this brumation period. Their diet are small crustaceans, snails, small fish. As of now, they harness no powers or strength. LILITH wants to keep them away from exposures, so most Outsiders will have to observe them in a nursery behind glass. Any Outsider involved in this project must be full body sterilized upon entering and exiting the nursery. This means stripped down and pressure washed with pre-made sterilization. It's not recommended to see the Imugi in person unless necessary. Their names are Noodle and RAGING MURDER TERROR TEMPEST DRAKESTORM or "Tempest" for short. These are results per the contest that was held a few months ago.

The orphanage side-project has been a success, and children misplaced from the Transylvania wreckage are properly cared for, both with Outsiders, civilian caretakers and AI robots. There is still some building and construction work to be completed, but the orphanage is livable for the children now.

On base, however, LILITH's crew, have detected some very heavy rift energy nearby, but the oddest thing is.. they can't detect where it is at exactly. They send out their researchers to try and find the source to different areas of Japan, but despite all the searching, there doesn't seem to be a rift anywhere. Could it be a glitch? Or something else? Maybe it's something harnesses rift energy? Something that moves fast and something that can disappear or camouflage. Stay tuned... and be on alert.

β–Ά 002. THE SEOK DANG GAMES: PLAYGROUND

"Aww, I missed seeing you guys have so much fun with each other! Breathe it in, the SIMULATION ARENA air! So crisp, so artificial. C'mon, let's PAR-TAY, bitches! Remember, if your teammates aren't driving you crazy, you're not doing it right!"

With Outsiders needing to be ready for whatever mission they will be tasked for yet, Seok Dang has an idea on how to build some healthy competition and get to know your teammates, especially the new ones, with some classic playground games from his homeland. Every Outsider will be asked to participate in the SIMULATION ARENA, though it has gotten a bit of make over to look like a children's playground thanks to hologram technology. Outsiders may group with whoever they like as they play these games, under one condition: the person you are playing with cannot be apart of your team! Everlight can't be against Everlight, etc.

Here are the list of games to play with one another:
Ssireium: Ssireum is similar to Japanese sumo wrestling, with two opponents wrestling each other in a sandy ring. The player who throws his opponent to the ground scores a point. Traditionally practiced as combat and self-defense, ssireum was also part of rituals conducted in the ancient tribal states. The goal is to score 5 points.

Neolttwigi: It's close enough to Korean New Year for this game, and in the year 2279, anyone can play this game, not just women. Neolttwigi is similar to seesaw, except that participants stand on each end of the neol (board) and jump, propelling the person opposite into the air. When performed as a spectacle, acrobatic tricks such as flips or skipping rope while in the air are often included. Try not to hurt yourself, but show off the most impressive stunt you can! Medics will be nearby.. just in case.

Dalgona: A Korean street food candy game where players try to carefully carve out a pre-stamped shape from a thin, honeycomb-like sugar candy without breaking it, often gaining a free candy if they succeed. The shapes Outsiders will find are modeled after the kaiju they have defeated: Shachimon, Imugi, Pricolici and Yamadenki. Shachimon is the easiest shape and Pricolici is the hardest shape. Outsiders can use any method to remove this shape from the honeycomb but will be given a needle by default.

β–Ά 003. THE SEOK DANG GAMES: SQUID

In this game, the offense must move outside the squid and around to the defensive house's bottom "gate". Once inside the squid, the offense must pass through the defensive house. To win, the offense must tap the closed-off space on the squid's head with their foot. Characters are encouraged to use any method to win against one another, which can sometimes turn violent. Use abilities or powers, it's all fair game here. There will be a buzzer at the squid's head and the offensive player must step on it.

Submit a thread or toplevel that has this prompt as part of it to be entered in an RNG elimination round. We will announce the Squid Winner overall on January 25th! Please submit your thread by January 23rd. Don't worry. Nobody dies for losing any of these games, but players are welcome to allow LILITH deduct some of their next pay out if they lose too many of these games. Some stakes are on the line!

β–Ά 004. IT'S SYNDER TIME!

It's late, one night, when a pop-up will appear on everyone's oculars. IT'S SYNDER TIME, BABES! Welcome to our Network Mingle! This is a Tinder mingle; an application that SEOK DANG has installed into everyone's implants last year and it's making a comeback. It's taken a lot of tweaking and hacking behind the rest of the LILITH crew's backs. Seems like the only person on staff who is interested in seeing Outsiders get some is SD himself. These messages are encrypted from the LILITH crew ... besides SD because he's a nosy bastard. Sounds fun.

HOW TO PLAY:
1. Pick the textarea that is under your TEAM NAME and fill out the spaces.
2. You can write the bio in character or as if Synder programmed their bio for them.
3. Body count can be confusing... even the automatic system doesn't know what that means! Does it mean how many people you have fucked or how many people you have killed? Or both?
4. PROFIT!

Participation in this mingle isn’t obligatory, of course. If you don’t want your character to participate, you can simply say they X'd out of the pop up.

We also have a code below for fun, but please don't feel pressured to use it. As always, a regular text thread works out just fine! Most importantly, have fun! All tags on this mingle will count for 2 points each.

(Please remember to put warnings for NSFW/triggering content in the subject header.)

EVERLIGHT

REVELATION

BRIMSTONE

REDEMPTION

βœ– / FIGHT! ❀ / FLIRT! ⏺ / FRIEND!

β–Ά 005. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our sixth downtime mingle! All tags on this log are worth 2 points and will count towards January AC.

For the Seok Dang Games, please comment below the proper header to see if your character wins the SQUID GAME. Follow the instructions and form in the comment.

For the SYNDER app, characters are welcome to customize their app with different themes, as well as download sticker packs. Anything that you would typically expect to be present in a messaging app can be found!

EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. STATE OF THE BASE: The past few months on the LILITH base has been suspiciously quiet and Outsiders have enjoyed a break where they can focus on rebuilding what they may have lost in October, tend to the cultist children, and the cats in Neo Tokyo who have been suffering from rift poisoning. Unbeknownst to the Outsiders, LILITH's crew has detected some very heavy rift energy from Neo Tokyo, but are having a hard time locating where it could be coming from. LILITH instructs Outsiders to be prepared.

2. THE SEOK DANG GAMES: GAME 1: Seok Dang is growing bored and puts the Outsiders through some character building activities. He brings all of the Outsiders to the SIMULATION ARENA and provides them with four mini games to play to build character participation and interaction.

3. THE SEOK DANG GAMES: GAME 2 Seok Dang is growing bored and puts the Outsiders through some character building activities. The second game is SQUID. Submit a thread for participation!

4. SYNDER: To encourage character relationships, SYNDER has appear back online on all of the oculars and Outsiders are encouraged to fill out a profile.. or AI will do it for them.

[ Ah yes. That. Godzilla hasn't really discussed much of the metaphysical thoughts he's had with Gigan, there's really been no point to it. Gigan isn't a person who really concerns himself with that and that's something Godzilla respects, even admires to a degree. To be able to live your life without such worries is an ultimate form of freedom. ]

By "Him" I have meaning of the Godzilla who's being and history was used to call me into this world. By LILITH's own explanation that being still exists there, he still fights for his world, protects his humans, loves his Mothra. I am not him. I am not the Godzilla. I am a Godzilla, one of many that exist throughout innumerous worlds where humans also populate. Friend Ereshkigal's explanation was to this "Human Convergence Phenonium," a mechanism by which humanity seems to always be entwined with certain beings of import to their nature or the world itself. The existence that is "Godzilla" appears to have as much hold as many deities from the old civilizations did. This world even has its version of Godzilla, legends preserved through motion film. Very... interesting legends.

[ Godzilla finally straightens himself out of the bath, rising to a more sitting position. At this point its probably more apparent than before how he's made himself taller than Gigan (Not intentionally, mind you, but still). He looks down at his Friend, eyes narrowing slightly, his tone taking on an effected casual air. ]

One has belief that there are other Titans whom share in this. Ghidorah, perchance being one. You would not know overtly much about such a being yourself, Friend of Mine?

[The punchline takes a moment to sink in. The water is soothing and steamy, and the conversation is bringing up emotionally charged memories—life shaped and preserved through legend. The weight of deity cupped in the hands of human belief. The nebulous emotion that sparks personal change, and whether or not it's the same thing as love. These aren't thoughts Gigan has per se, or even is capable of having in as many words, but the currents of them eddy under his skin, stirred up by a palpable nostalgia he knows he could never actually express. Does he even want to? Sometimes. Sometimes, especially times like this, he nudges up against the awareness that there are things that are deeply important to him, and he could try telling people about them, even though it would be very very hard to do.

This is the mood until it's not anymore. Godzilla's question filters through a second after his change in tone and posture do. Ohhhhhh wait. Ohhh wait wait wait wait.

Gigan can't widen his eye, but his brow lifts sharply, and he automatically straightens right up in the water, any lingering nostalgia slipping right off his face.]

Uh—yeah, uh, the movies, did you . . . ? You saw the movies? The movies?!

[ It's at this point that something becomes a bit more apparent about Godzilla's new human body. He still has claws.

This is made apparent by the fact that as he unsubmerges he proceeds to lean almost casually against the bath's edge, resting his arms on the ledges behind him, and begins to tap one of his finger nails... claws against the rim of the bath. The hardened claw clicks against the tile with a tone that speaks to sharpness, something that's just barely avoiding putting a scratch into the tile through sheer force of control. ]

Indeed, they are of quite interest. The film containing the being Hedorah was of a concern I oft have for the fate of the environment. Yet there was a title amongst these motion films I find myself thinking on oft since its first viewing.

[ Godzilla proceeds to Look. At Gigan. He's not baring his teeth, he's not growling, he's not raising his voice. He doesn't even sound angry! He's clearly annoyed if the claw tapping is anything to go by, but not angry. If anything his tone sounds... reproachful? Disappointed even? ]

"Godzilla Versus Gigan." Are you aware of this piece of cinematography?
kaizou: (the collapse of optimism)

[personal profile] kaizou 2025-03-11 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Godzilla vs. Gigan, a piece of cinematography indeed. A classic film in the series, well known for establishing its debut villain as something of a coward—if not as much as Godzilla vs. Megalon did a year later. Still. Godzilla's seen it, which means he's seen that side of Gigan on the big screen.

And now this is the first time he gets to see Gigan cowed by him in real life! To his credit, Gigan doesn't flee the baths, but the intimidation is obvious in his body language in a way Godzilla will never have seen from him before: he sinks down a little lower, shoulders and arms tensing, and his red eye shifts around in its metal socket with a soft whrr, looking for a place to focus. The wall. The water's surface. The tapping claaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwww

He has imagined this conversation finally happening several times at this point, but it turns out that doesn't help much, because in all of those instances he imagined himself as the one initiating it. It wasn't supposed to go this way! Finally, that's what he lands on as his first response:]

—I was gonna tell you soon!

[This is actually true.]

[personal profile] 30storieshigh 2025-03-12 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Tap tap tap tap. It's almost like a countdown, leading up to something that Gigan was going to experience at the hands of Zone Fighter. (Goji doesn't know about Zone Fighter though.)

After staring at Gigan for a good half a minute Godzilla speaks up again, his tone level. So at least he's not growling! ]

Were you to be before myself months ago your throat would be torn out on principle.

[ Another long silence as he holds his gaze on Gigan. Then he sighs, a plume of smoke escaping his nostrils. ]

In light of such one can hardly lay blame to you for keeping such things from me. I am not angered with you, Friend Gigan. Disappointed to an extent, perhaps, but not angered. Be at peace.

[ He stops tapping his claw finally and allows himself to relax, eyes closing as he leans back onto the water and lets the temporary tension drain from his muscles. ]

You are not the being depicted in such tales, even if at one point you may have been. You have grown, you have changed. That feckless coward and the person I now speak to are worlds apart. This Gigan is one I am glad to call Friend and Ally, as dependable as any Titan from my world of origin. If a bit...

[ He chews on the words as he tried to find them, almost literally. Growling grunts followed by a casual wave of his hand. ]

Hard headed, perhaps? Not quite the essence of it, yet of enough closeness.
kaizou: (you really are a bugger)

[personal profile] kaizou 2025-03-21 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Hard-headed. Automatically, Gigan lifts a hand to touch the metal plating that surrounds his own right eye, as if Godzilla meant this literally. He sure is! His head is definitely quite hard! The alloy used in his cybernetics is extremely advanced!

That's an easy thing to focus on while he tries to process the rest of this.

There's a directness to most of it that soothes him, subconsciously even before he's sure he can really "be at peace" on a conscious level; his body begins to relax as Godzilla speaks. Some of the phrasing is still mildly opaque. Feckless? Does the movie actually make a point of that or something? Sure, he hadn't had experience at the time, but that seems odd to point out in the context of that battle. But all of that is unimportant, at least until he remembers it again later and it starts to bother him. For now—

He's "grown." They'd said that too back on the space station. Changed . . . yeah. Gigan knows exactly how Godzilla feels when he says he's not the Godzilla even of his own world anymore. They've both gotten in too deep. He doesn't regret that. Hearing it from someone else, especially Godzilla, feels . . . something. It feels something he can't name, but it feels a whole lot of it at once, enough that it feels like it's clawing up out of his chest where it was born and into his throat to choke him.

That's why his voice sounds strange to his own ears when he finally says:]

. . . It's not like I ever thought about changing before, but anything can do it. Anything can be the thing that makes everything completely different.
