CONTENT WARNINGS: natural disasters such as flooding and tornadoes, toxic gas/rift poisoning.

▶ 001. RECENT REPORTS.

The week leading into the new month is characterized by the distinct shift in weather patterns across Japan. Within Neo Tokyo, heavy rainfall with low level flooding is disrupting the business and commute of the local people. Even more temperate regions around Okinawa, and the small outer islands, will find themselves with an influx of tropical storms. Northern regions such as Hokkaido will find that some of the snow will have melted down, and the sun is running hot for the season. These strange occurrences seem to have the research team running on overtime, seeing if this has any link or correlation to any kaiju and the rifts.

To make matters worse, the Imugi hatchlings have begun to exhibit strange behaviors they never have before. While the hatchlings did seem to gain stability over the past month, now they are showing signs of extreme distress. They seem more on edge, enough to the point where entry to visit them has been appropriately blocked off until they find the source of their stress. The researchers have found in recent days that this seems to directly correlate to the weather, and what they see as rift energy in various parts of Japan. Over the week they narrow down these rifts to two specific locations which have a high chance of being the source -- Kagoshima and Yamanashi.

LILITH believes this is deeply connected to patterns that they've seen in records from South Korea, before their connections were severed due to the battle that took place last year. As a result, LILITH's Japan branch is doing their best to see if they're able to work with the tensions of the past in order to receive further research and information from the new government that rose from the destruction of Seoul, and is presently in Busan. While efforts to rebuild a branch there are progressing, they are reluctant to offer anything outside of the bare minimum or what is readily known to the public.

In light of these events, Outsiders are told to prepare for their leave soon. Unlike the sudden blare of their alarm, they offer the Outsiders time to begin preparing for the next mission. They will be given an additional stipend that amounts to 200 USD to be spent on supplies, or other personal resources necessary. Outsiders are encouraged to group up however they would like and go on a shopping spree to places such as FamilyMart, 7-Eleven and Don Quijote. Remember, only buy what you absolutely need!! (Or don't. It's not like LILITH is gonna be monitoring that.)

▶ 002. DATA COLLECTION.

After much back and forth, the branch in Busan does provide limited reports on their tracking of the Imugi's movements, both prior and after the catastrophe in Seoul. Per their reports, they are able to come to several conclusions in regards to the Imugi.

The Imugi that had escaped has further evolved, and even from the point in which it appeared in South Korea, has evolved to be even stronger than before. This Imugi is able to adapt to any weather condition, and even retains some control over the environment. The Imugi possesses intellect which seems to surpass many of the kaiju they have encountered in the past. The Imugi is able to use the rifts as a means of travel. Unlike some kaiju which appear from the rifts almost arbitrarily, the Imugi seems to have full control over its ability to travel within them, which makes it effective at evading most tracking methods. In addition, after further studies, it was found that the Imugi is able to inflict severe Rift poisoning due to its connection with the rifts. They state that while Seoul was physically devastated, most of the casualties were from the rift poisoning which took place after.

With the reports they receive, they also find that the two locations in Japan exhibited similar flows of rift energy, and are most likely to be in connection with the kaiju. As there are two locations in which have to be physically monitored, the Outsiders will once more need to be split up into teams. Everlight and Revelation will be sent to Yamanashi, while Brimstone and Redemption will be sent to Kagoshima. With this confirmation, it's highly likely that the female Imugi has returned.

Within those groups, LILITH will ask for those with experience with the Imugi to handle briefing others in their team who are not as familiar. As the Imugi does possess a variety of skills, Outsiders will also be asked to stick with those from an opposing team as a safety precautio as they believe each team member should be able to supplement for another. In addition, these teams are asked to stick together even prior to leaving the base in order to increase their ability to work as a team for the duration of the mission. While the travel time to each place is relatively short, videos on teamwork and strategy will be played and cannot be muted or turned off. Here is a recap of the Imugi from last year's debrief sheet with some extra information:

HEIGHT: 1000 feet across, 30 feet high
WEIGHT: 2000kg
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: ???, Japan
ABILITIES: Control over weather conditions, including summoning of heavy storms, lightning strikes and hurricanes. Can fly up to 1000 feet. By flying amongst the clouds, Imugi releases chemicals into the atmosphere that bring about acid rain. Armored scales, sharp teeth and claws.
WEAKNESSES: Piercing it in the gaps between its impenetrable scales. There is also a particularly weak spot under on it's neck that will deal significant damage if pierced.
EXTRA NOTES: From its initial appearance and behavior, specialists believe that this female Imugi confirmed to be the mother of the hatchlings. This appears to be the female counterpart to the kaiju in Seoul that was killed by the Outsiders after causing havoc on South Korea. Despite them both being the same type of kaiju, likely derived from the same rift, this kaiju seems slightly more agile and openly aggressive.

Once each group arrives, they are expected to explore each region and gather whatever data they can.

▶ 003. KAGOSHIMA.

Reports continue to come in from the various outposts and remaining settlements around Kagoshima. There are constant tremors in the area and some of them manifest as full blown earthquakes that can be felt across other parts of the country and trigger tsunamis along the coast. While the region is no longer as populated as it once was, there are pockets of unfortunate civilians taking refuge in abandoned houses who will need to be rescued and evacuated (some may put up resistance). As these are typical signs of an imminent kaiju attack, the area is on high alert.

Ominously, the Kagoshima Bay area seems is exhibiting strange occurrences of dead and mutated fish washing up on the shore and any other animals in the area meet the same fate. These animals have extra limbs or organs, mysterious burns on their flesh, and have grown in size. Some animals have survived but they have mutated into unstable kaiju hybrids. They aren't very strong and don't live for very long but before they die, they become extremely violent.

LILITH researchers who try to investigate eventually become extremely ill and it has hindered their progress. They experience typical symptoms of Rift poisoning (headache, nausea, impulsive behavior, hallucinations) but also burning of the eyes, skin, and lungs. Before onset, they report spelling something foul in the air.

While getting close to the bay is difficult, it's easy to see that something is wrong. Aside from the loss of life, the water in the bay appears more polluted and smells rotten. The famous Sakurajima Island at the center of the bay has always been active but now it lets out unusual multi-coloured smoke. The clouds carry volcanic ash that completely covers large areas making it difficult to move and hard to breathe. The volcano constantly erupts and wind carries shards of cooled magma slivers. The shards cut skin, sting eyes, and can cause serious internal damage if breathed in.

The waves are too dangerous and flight conditions are poor so it is difficult to approach. However, the constant lava flows over the years have created a bridge on the other side of the bay called Ohsumi. Despite the high risks and plentiful unknown factors, Outsiders are tasked with investigating the area around Kagoshima Bay and reaching Sakurajima by this bridge.

Be careful of the toxic gases in the air, Rift poisoning, earthquakes, kaiju hybrids, and volcanic shards. Outsiders are strongly urged to keep their suits on. Outsiders will be flown near to the area via aircraft, and proceed the rest of the way using camper vehicles to reach Ohsumi and find out what kaiju threat is approaching. (Camper vehicles sit 4-5 people each and Seok Dang has kindly programmed his questionable pre-recorded driving lessons into each vehicle.)

▶ 004. YAMANASHI.

Closer to home, the residents of Neo Tokyo can sense that something is happening outside the city. The sky is clearer in the winter months, allowing everyone to see Mt. Fuji in the distance. From the city, everyone can see that dark clouds have gathered around Mt. Fuji. There is widespread panic that Fuji may be preparing to erupt but despite the perceived activity, there have been no tremors. Meteorologists report that this is purely an atmospheric phenomenon.

Clouds spread every day and begin to affect Neo Tokyo. Weather patterns become unpredictable and extreme. Heavy rains flood lower parts of the city one moment and then turn to a mix of snow and ice the next. The temperature drops dramatically and suddenly spikes to warmer weather at other times. Strong winds cause serious damage to buildings and there are reports of tornados touching down in the outskirts. These worsening conditions not only put a significant strain on the local businesses, but there are reports of these strong winds blowing away children and the frail elderly, and flash floods drowning those unable to escape in time. This entire time, Mt. Fuji flashes as lightning repeatedly strikes it. Given the mountain's significance to the people, they worry that this might be some sort of sign that something terrible is coming. In a panic, people begin to stock up on emergency supplies. They buy out stores, hoard goods, and stick closer to the entrances for underground shelters. Some even resort to crime, looting the evacuated apartments or stealing supplies from other people.

While Outsiders may be asked by other authorities to help keep peace in the city, LILITH's priority is investigating Mt. Fuji. They will be sent to Yamanashi prefecture by camper vehicles. (They sit 4-5 people each and Seok Dang has kindly programmed his questionable pre-recorded driving lessons into each vehicle.) It takes about 6 hours to arrive in Yamanashi due to the destruction and weather. It won't be a smooth ride, either. The weather continues to storm, with heavy winds knocking over trees to block their paths, the rain triggering landslides, and lightning strikes that keep conveniently striking wherever they are. On top of that, the rift-affected animals found a month prior have further mutated. The local fauna have grown in size and viciousness, and they make the trip there treacherous. Outsiders may encounter mutated boars slamming into their camper vehicles, or oversized, snarling monkeys trying to captured people and swoop them away. Find a safe and secluded area to park and help out any citizens who may need help.

▶ 005. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our fourth travel log!

There are no assigned seats this time, so characters may travel with whoever they choose or assume that LILITH has assigned you. All camper vans come with a driving instruction program installed. You can find more information about these vehicles here. It is highly encouraged to stay within your assigned team mission, but in the chaos LILITH is not going to enforce a relocation if somebody ends up where they aren't supposed to be. Communications remain open across all teams but might be a bit spotty in the weather conditions.

All tags on this log are worth 2 points and will count towards February AC.

EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)

1. RECENT REPORTS: The weather across Japan has become unpredictable. The Imugi hatchlings have become very distressed and LILITH is temporarily restricting access to them. LILITH is reaching out to their sister base in South Korea to find out whatever information they can.

2. DATA COLLECTION: LILITH South Korea provides some information regarding the Imugi. We find out that is has become stronger than before. It has evolved and is now able to control not only the weather, but rift travel. It can also inflict severe rift poisoning. Outsider and split into two teams to explore two key locations: Kagoshima and Yamanashi.

3. KAGOSHIMA: Brimstone and Redemption are being sent here via campervan. There are reports of earthquakes, dead/mutated animals along with signs of severe rift poisoning in researchers. The volcano in Sakurajima island is emitted toxic, multi-coloured smoke. Outsiders must cross the bridge to get closer but beware rift poisoning, earthquakes and kaiju hybrids.

4. YAMANASHI: Everlight and Revelation are being sent here. Neo Tokyo is experiencing worsening weather conditions such as floods, unusual snowfall and tornadoes, which is causing a panic amongst the people. Outsiders have to take a campervan to travel toward Mt. Fuji but they may be faced with extreme weather conditions (such as lightning) and kaiju hybrid attacks.

📝 1.Recent Reports

[At the local FamilyMart, Yato can be found stocking up on what essentials are left on the shelves: some bottled water, snack mix, and lots and lots of candy. It looks more like he's preparing for Halloween than a trek out for a mission. He's already bitten into one candy bar and has it hanging from his mouth, nibbling away at it while he grabs a few more things, like a blanket, a lantern, some batteries, and matches.

Spying one of his fellow Outsiders, he offers them a candy bar and a smile.]

Here to do some shopping too, huh? Got everything you need?

⚡ 2. Weather or Not

[While still in Neo Tokyo with the winds picking up - quite literally, in this case - Yato ventures out in the hopes of trying to aid those in need. It isn't long before he's catching a child by the wrist as a massive updraft tries to steal the girl away, leaving him clinging to a streetlight with one hand and the kid in the other while the wind whips this way and that, like it's trying deliberately to separate them.

Even with his godly strength, he's gradually being pulled off his feet, grunting and cursing with the effort it takes to remain grounded. Certainly it looks like he could use a hand, and he's not shy about asking, either:]

Hey--! Help me out here, would you?!

⁉️ 3. Smuggler's Paradise

[You know what? Screw LILITH and their rules! Yato's about had enough of being separated from those he cares about (read: Hiyori) and so before all the teams head out, he creeps off to Redemption's camper area among the luggage. Some might see him lurking about, but before anyone gets a chance to speak to him, he seems to have vanished.

Where he disappeared to becomes apparent later during the car ride: sometime mid-trip, one of the suitcases starts wiggling and bumping, until it worms its way right off the overhead shelf that it's situated on, landing with a thud and a loud OUCH between the rows of seats. After a few moments of quiet, the zipper on it pulls sloooowly open and a bright blue eye peers out, glancing this way and that. Then:]

...are we there yet?

[Yes, that's right. He's gone and stuffed himself into a piece of luggage. Sorry for the disturbance, Redemption folks.]

[ With the teams being split Kaga thought for sure she would get some of the distance she needed.

Not one bit. She's in the same camper as Hiyori. That's already awkward. It couldn't get worse. And then the luggage talks.

Two sets of blue eyes lock onto it. One is Kaga's, the other is Kiko who's currently the size of a Shepard dog for easy transport. She's also approaching the luggage with her tails raised and her teeth bared in a snarl. ]

Kiko? Kill him if he tries to come out.

[ Said coldly as she puts a hand on the fox's side. ]

[Of all the vehicles he could've been stashed on, it had to be one with Kaga, didn't it? Of course, that means Hiyori's here too, so it kind of balances out?? Or it would if he wasn't being threatened with instant DOOM should he set a single finger out of his makeshift cocoon.

The luggage jumps a bit at the threat, a tiny eep! escaping from unseen quivering lips. Yeah, things were a bit awkward last time they met up, but still...!]

Aw... D'ya really have to be that way, Kaga? Can't you overlook it just this once...?

[ To answer that question Kaga proceeds to put her foot right on the luggage and lean her weight onto her, resting an arm on her knee as she glares down. ]

I don't, and I could. But I won't.

[ And now the kitsune is baring her teeth alongside her fox shikigami. Her fangs are almost cute! ]

I don't think LILITH will mind either. You're disobeying orders, I'd be doing them a favor.

[Yeouch, that smarts...! Enough so that he starts squirming about trying to avoid her foot as best he can in such a limited space. Not that it does much good, honestly.]

Ugh... You're brutal sometimes, you know that? [Stating the obvious, but.] LILITH can go suck on an egg, I wanna keep an eye on Hiyori, dammit...!

[ Said as she rests her hand on her metal arm. She's almost relaxed... until he says that. Yato's little comment has her ears twitch and her fingers drumming on the metal prosthetic. ]

Tsk. What's wrong? Don't you trust the people around her?

[ It's almost like she's daring him to say he doesn't trust Kaga specifically. ]

[ "it'll be fine. just fine. you're okay, me."

those string of words have been on ongoing mantra in her head. every time an earthquake or other natural disaster rocks the camper and makes her very bones tense up and feel moments away from shattering and she has to take a deep breath. there's a hum in the air - or she's imagining it. either way, it puts her on edge.

a lot puts her on edge. most of it in what's to come. some of it in her worry for the other teams they're separating from, but especially one team member in particular - starts with y ends in ato. a bit of it is for who is in the camper with her. that one's the easiest to ignore because she told herself she could and would be NORMAL.

at one point, her mantra slips out under her breath: ]

Everything will be alri-AIIIGH?!

[ suddenly, luggage raining from the compartment above is scaring the crap out of her and fraying already frazzled nerves. a curse sits on her tongue but she bites her back, wondering if they should put it back or leave it there on the floor when it starts moving on its own. and

did it... say ouch...? is that zipper moving? are those

eyes?

eyes she knows all too well and the voice accompanying it. no way, hiyori thinks while frozen in her seat. then, in a mad rush, her hands fly to unzip the luggage the rest of the way and all but rips open the flap to reveal one (1) god of happiness. ]

Y - YATO?! WH - BWUH - UU -

BUT YOU'RE EVERLIGHT?!

[Honestly, how can LILITH give them the ability to feel each other's distress then expect them to willingly separate? That's something Yato wonders throughout the trek across the turbulent terrain. It's asking too much of them this time, so he doesn't feel a lick of guilt for his sneaky behavior. If anything he feels a bit excited about playing hide and seek. Maybe it's that giddiness that's helping to put Hiyori on edge.

Meaning he'll have to make it up to her once they get to their destination. It's that thought that's sitting with him when an unruly bump in the road sends him and his disguise crashing to the floor.

An OUCH later and he's peering up at Hiyori's shocked face. There's only a moment's delay before he's glomming onto her with gleeful delight, smooshing their cheeks together as he laughs without much care.]

Hiya, Hiyori! Bah, Everlight smeverlight. Who cares about teams during times like this? I felt your distress and came along to be with you~

[ as kaga so suitably stated above, hiyori immediately thinks this is her fault. whatever guilt he isn't feeling, she does tenfold. iki, you moron, you forgot about the tracker rings. now it will be her fault if he gets caught and in deep shit. and it will be her fault that everlight is down a man with some serious power. and it will be her fault if yato does something to put himself in danger for her sake and -

despite all that, the knot of tension in her gut loosens to see yato's face and have him here. yato used to hide in trashcans to stalk GIVE DIVINE PROTECTION so it's like they're teenagers again. or she is. luggage is an upgrade from garbage. not a big one, but one nonetheless.

she puts her hands on his waist as he smothers himself onto her, curling her fingers into him without thinking. ]

I'm... glad to... see you. Surprised, but glad... [ she really is. how light her body feels, but at the same time heavy, is a testament to that. after saying so, she stiffens and looks around at the other camper riders with some bashfulness. there is nowhere to go. THEY HAVE WITNESSES.

clearing her throat, she separates them a little with hands on his shoulders and a flustered face. ]

Yato, what if you get into trouble for this?

[Blissfully oblivious to her guilt aside from the faint hum of it through their rings, he nuzzles up against Hiyori with gusto. Nothing is her fault, that much he knows to be true. It's all on him and his dumbassery, which is why he's completely unbothered by the fact he's breaking protocol to be together with her.

It's not even that he distrusts Kaga and Akagi, but having to part from Hiyori so soon after getting engaged was just too much for him to handle. He's feeling overly protective towards his wife-to-be since this will be her first front line mission. He doesn't fully trust anyone but himself to keep her safe. And even then he's still worried.

But right now he's just happy to be in her arms, and it shines through in his face.]

Hehe~ I thought you might be. That's why I came along! Consider me your carry on luggage~☆ [That everyone can see what they're doing naturally doesn't bother him one iota, as is proven by him kissing her cheek before she's putting some space between them to his disappointment.]

Bah! What're they gonna do, send me to my room? It'll be fine, Hiyori! They need me, right? Besides, I'm still gonna help fight. It'll just be with you guys.

[ not like they're together ALL the time, hiyori has her work and hobbies outside of yato even if he joins her for some (bow training and pole dancinglksjgs) but yato's acting like she's been away from him for weeks instead of a few hours. at MOST. was she bothering him that much with her distress...? now he's overdoing it NOW to comfort her?

[For his part, Yato smiles as Ken takes the candy bar, shaking his head a bit.]

Pretty much the same, really. Though given what we're up against, maybe something like pepper spray would be more appropriate.

[He chuckles, though it's a bit humorlessly; the Imugi likely wouldn't be susceptible to something as basic as pepper spray. Though one could hope.]

[ emi would hate that after all. so it's not without merit as an idea. though you'd need a giant pepper spray. ]

But if these guys control the weather, the wind will probably sweep the pepper away.

Oh man, good point. It'd suck to have it blown back into our faces. I wonder then if a giant net might not be a better idea. Something to snag the damn thing before it can fly into a rift.

[Why he's trying to strategize something that would probably take months to complete is beyond him. It's just a fun thought exercise, really.]

[ Honestly, she had figured Yato might do that. In fact, she'd have been pretty disappointed, had he not done that. Nothing can get between two destined loves, after all! But when she hears the zipper pull open and his voice emerge from the luggage, she feels... Something of a devious streak...

She's behind the luggage so he can't see her. Ehehe... After what he's done during the sleepover, that's only justice that she would do something devious, isn't it? Ereshkigal clears her throat and speaks in a very very deep tone, drawing out her words. ]

I smeeell... Divine bloooooood... [She very suddenly takes the luggage he is and effortlessly lifts it. She's really trying to make it look as though she's a big monster or something.] Mwahahaaaaaaaa... After a looooong sleep... For my return, I shall feaaast well...!

[ She then does her most evil laugh. Why does it sound so feminine? P-Perhaps there are two monsters!! ]

[Even after his thunk onto the floor, all seems well... At least until suddenly he's rising into the air and an ominous voice is washing over him, making all his hairs stand on end.

Truthfully, part of her success is due to the fact he never would've expected her to be so bold as to tease him in such a manner, hence why her ruse works as well as it does.]

W-W-WHAT?! D-DON'T EAT ME, I TASTE TERRIBLE--! S-SEKKI!!

[Shit, that's right, Yukine isn't here. Yet even if he can't help instinctually calling for his divine weapon, he starts squirming about, trying to escape the confines of his self-made prison. He doesn't even register that the laugh is almost lady-like in its tone, only that whatever it is that easily lifted him off the floor now wants to chomp his bones.

Finally, he gets the zipper working and unzips the luggage in a hurry, tumbling out and onto the floor with a solid thud. Twisting around, he finally spots who it is that startled him so, and for a moment he looks as if he doesn't believe his eyes.]

E-Ereshkigal?!

[ His reaction is even better than what she'd imagined! It's fun sometimes to be more of a devious goddess... Is she entering her rebellious phase? She supposes a prank a year is something she can allow herself. Though she does feel bad when he falls so loudly onto the floor... S-She doesn't want him to get hurt! ]

I-I'm sorry, I don't know what came over to me but I had to do it!

[ She looks really happy with herself, she feels like she's one of the cool kid! That's the kind of stuff popular and loved gods do, right? Though she still immediately extends her hand to him to help him get back up. ]

You're not hurt, are you?

[A-At least she's getting to find out the joys of being a troublemaker, even if it's at his expense. He doesn't, or won't, mind too terribly, once his heart stops hammering away in his chest. Peering up at her in bewilderment, he finally manages to laugh lightly.]

T..That's okay, I mean, I guess I deserved it, huh?

[Staring at her hand a moment, he then takes it in order to scramble to his feet, dusting himself off with his other hand.]

Nah, just surprised. You really had me going there for a minute! Who knew you could do such an ominous voice when you're like that? Not me, that's for sure!
