WHO: Ratchet and you!
WHAT: First shift in the medibay
WHERE: The medibay
WHEN: early in March
WARNINGS: Medical stuff? None otherwise
If you have a reason to come into the medical bay, there's a new face around. Ratchet is acquainting himself with the place, learning where things are, triage protocols, and building a workspace for his ten-foot self over in the corner so he doesn't have to hunch over the tables they already have.
He will also be in his human form, with his ambulance body tucked into a corner, helping to tidy the smaller, regular-sized instruments and supplies that are used regularly.
If he isn't doing that, he'll be sitting and reading up on organic medicine, just in case anybody squishy comes in with an injury of some sort. He knows the real test will be the next kaiju fight, but for now he's just making himself comfortable. Please feel free to disturb him.

The gauze Ratchet plucked from the pile to set straight is counted along with its fellows. There are too few, but more than before, at least. The hospitals are short on stock, too, especially following the attacks on the city.
This is the best he could do. He's disappointed in himself despite that fact.
"It's for the best. The technology for surgeons here is too advanced for me to use without proper schooling. Being a paramedic suits me... so I adapt. You do, too. I'm sure the pilots will be glad to have you."

Ratchet recognizes that I-can't-do-enough expression on Kaladin's face after seeing it in the mirror.
"Hey, we're all doing the best we can. If you ever need help with any of the machines, that's sort of my specialty, so just ask all right? I can even arrange training if you want. Maybe you can answer some of my weird human biology questions in return."
no subject
"Yes... let's do that. Thank you, Doctor."
The empathy shown by Ratchet has a noticeably positive result, Kaladin looking a little taller after his talking-to.
"The training, too. I can't wear the caduceus if I can't treat everyone in my care. Almighty forbid you get injured and no one knows how to at least stabilize you." He pauses, then nods. "'Peace of mind.' For both of us. That's what we'll aim for first."

"You got it. And, you can just call me Ratchet. We aren't big on titles where I'm from."
He shrugs a little. "I can mostly take care of myself. I was actually thinking of having some of the more competent mobile suit techs take a look at my specs. You kind of have to know how to weld to get anything done. But I appreciate the offer. We can just work on getting each other up to speed first."

"By 'mobile suit techs,' do you mean Shinn? He can be abrasive, but he's a good man. He may have saved my life in the struggle against the Imugi... The battle that took place before you arrived." The box, empty of its contents, is broken down and folded up, due for the trash. "I'm sure he's good for it, or can find you someone who is."

Ratchet hesitates for a moment, then admits, "This isn't the first time I've been the only Cybertronian physician around but it's the first time I've had to rely on organics for assistance. Usually I just make do. It's a new experience."

Kaladin extends a hand.
"You don't have to 'just make do' anymore. It can't be easy to trust that so quickly, but I promise you this: If you need help, I won't let you down." Quietly, he adds, "I'll be leaning on you, too."
no subject
"Thank you, Kaladin. That means more than I can say."
WRAP? these two are so pure.........
Yet, not quite. Ratchet is a metal being possessed of a soul who can walk and talk like a human can. He's a person, however alien. That makes him precious. And that's more than enough for Kaladin to respect him.
Kaladin smiles, invigorated by the nice exchange. Bidding a new friend a quiet farewell, he takes his empty box and exits the medibay.
