ā¶ 001. EYES WIDE OPEN.
"Angels of Lilith, report for duty in the DISPATCH."
The day starts off with alarms blaring and oculars shining bright lights in the Outsiders' heads, waking them up early for an emergency dispatch. Although the current Rift at Mt. Fuji needs to be explored and examined, the Rifts continue to appear in different parts of the world, and this Rift is no different. Captain Yamakawa continues,
"We have received a distress call from EGYPT. Much of the region fell during the first kaiju crisis. Now it is a desolate land that survives with the help of a generator called an ESSENCE which is currently malfunctioning. We assume the cause is Rift energy—according to our radar, there is a heavy amount of Rift energy coming from that area. We will move out immediately. Pack all the things you may need, but each Outsider will be supplied with a care package of their own containing essentials."
Even though it is 4:00 AM Tokyo time, LILITH hopes you all have slept well. It could be the very last good sleep in awhile. While the dataportal to Egypt is operational on Japan's end, because of the malfunctioning generator, Outsiders are unable to come out on the other side. The old method of using the flying cruiser will be used once again.
There will not be assigned seating for this other than by teams. Everlights will sit with Everlights, Brimstones with Brimstones, and so on. The Outsiders will be encouraged to rest on the flight, and a few hours before landing, an in-flight meal will be provided. The meal is surprisingly delicious and consists of chicken or pork katsu cutlet, but with the warning that all Outsiders will know about: it contains high amount of cyber caffeine. This sort of newly innovative caffeine can keep Outsiders awake for several days, but sometimes it may cause restlessness or hyperactivity, causing characters to have a jittery amount of energy but razor sharp focus. Other times, it simply keeps characters awake and they feel no different. The cutlet will be served with KAIJUā¢ Energy Drink. Any Outsiders that require a different diet will be provided with what they need, and the cyber caffeine will be added to it if they would like.
Yamakawa gives instructions again:
"We have received more information about the kaiju. Civilians have died in their sleep from horrible nightmares, and we are encouraging Outsiders to sleep together in pairs or groups, or disregard sleeping at all until we obtain more information. We are still receiving facts about this monster, but this meal will help with keeping everyone awake as a safety measure."
Those who do not want to have the highly caffeinated meal can have everyone's favorite: a ration bar that isn't spiked with any energy, but it doesn't taste good at all. Outsiders may be more likely to fall asleep and be in danger by choosing this meal. The balance of a dystopian society.

ā¶ 002. ARRIVAL IN EGYPT.
When they finally arrive, the air is temperate and dry in Alexandria. The Outsiders might have to check their clocks once more to make sure everything is right; everyone is expected to land in the late afternoon and every clock says it should be close to evening, but the city is already growing dark with the sun setting quite early. Because of the ESSENCE disruption, Alexandria is running on back up energy, which makes for spotty lighting and loss of basic power.
LILITH will be greeted by a small group of researchers at the airport and they will help take the Outsiders to their base: the Alexandria Institute which was once the University of Alexandria. They will give the Outsiders a quick run down of the situation and some background.
When they arrive at the Institute, Outsiders will be set up in the old student dormitories. Each room has 2-4 beds depending on the room, with a common shared area on each floor. Given the current threat, there is also a supply of energy drinks and bars boosted with cyber caffeine. Outsiders have two options:

1. LILITH does not have a strong defense branch in the region any more. Instead, the branch here seems more focused on research, especially on the origin of kaiju and rifts.Progress has been slow because the corrupt file shut down many of their facilities. They have not been able to track the source of the Rift or identify the kaiju responsible for it. They believe the answers may be within the corrupt file and will be happy to receive any help they can get from the Outsiders.
2. This region is extremely prone to spontaneous Rifts. Many of them are small and pass quickly but this most recent one is unprecedented.
3. One evening, in the final week of March, the Alexandria Institute received a corrupt file from their fellow researchers in Greece. It shut down much of their research facility (including their warp portal) and all they have been able to recover so far are the words, "Do Not Go To Sleep."
4. The next morning, they awoke to find the sun rising later and setting earlier. It feels like the days are getting significantly shorter.
5. Many locals developed a fear of the dark and going to sleep. They would then die in their sleep within the next few days.
6. The autopsy of these victims have shown no cause of death, puzzling coroners.

Times are hard in Alexandria right now with their generators malfunctioning and efforts being split. The researchers are trying to get the generators back up and uncorrupt the data they received from Greece. LILITH will instruct the Outsiders to help with the research but also warn that they cannot afford to just sit around and wait to crack codes. The researchers also agree. Sometimes the best way to get research data is to go out into the field, but they haven't been able to do it due to not having much protection. The desert is vast, and there have been sightings of other small kaiju lurking beneath the sand and in some smaller cities.
Outsiders can decide to stay in the city of Alexandria to help crack the codes, or they can opt to go out into the field. For the latter, they can choose to stay close to home and investigate within Alexandria.
Those who wish to help with the ESSENCE generators and researchers will stay in Alexandria, using any downtime when not investigating to try and stay awake, slumber-party style. Two Truths and a Lie? Maybe Spin The Bottle? Perhaps some games can keep Outsiders enticed so they don't doze off.

To conserve energy, the researchers supply camels for the Outsiders to use. The camels are mostly tame, but have their own distinct personalities, so they may need a little more handling and can be coaxed to behave with treats like artificial carrots and bananas. Outsiders can spend time getting to know their camel if they are going to explore the desert or cities. A camel can seat two people on its back comfortably, but also carry any essentials that travelers need to bring along.

EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. EYES WIDE OPEN: Outsiders travel to Egypt after receiving reports of their power generator, ESSENCE, being unstable and malfunctioning, leaving citizens in peril. They are instructed to "stay awake." They are supplied cyberpunk caffeine and told to try not to sleep or stay in pairs to be watchful of any danger.
2. ARRIVING IN EGYPT: Arriving in Alexandria, the Outsiders are confirmed that citizens have been dying in their sleep, with coroners unable to determine the cause. The days are mysteriously getting shorter and people are unable to stay awake.
3. LEARN & EXPLORE: Outsiders are given options to stay in Alexandria to help with the generator or find clues to assist the research team. Between researching, they are asked to continue to stay awake by any means possible. Those who will be exploring the desert and smaller cities for clues are given a camel for transportation. Outsiders are encouraged to get to know their camel before traveling.
4. FEELING SANDY: While looking for any clues out in the desert, Outsiders encounter smaller kaiju known as Sand Crocodiles. They hide in the sand and attack at the opportune time, snapping jaws and spitting fire. Shooting them between the eyes or in the mouth will K.O. them.

[One of Johnny's travelling companions has been pleasant and chatty, to the point where it's probably annoying to his fellow Outsiders. Part of it is just Roland's personality, but part of it is him trying to keep everyone, including himself, awake and focused.
So when Johnny's shots ring out, and his warning calls a heard, Roland is instantly in battle mode. He'd been carrying something large and heavy on his back, covered in cloth; when pulled away it revels a strange spear-like weapon. However, the best bet for fighting these creatures is to blast them with guns. He's never been much for those, but Johnny seems pretty good with it. There's a flick on the handle of the weapon, and the segments separate. Roland uses it to grab one of the crocodiles, who was rearing up to lunge at them, and hold it in place for Johnny to aim at.]

[He takes time to reload the shotgun, silently blaming himself for not owning a stronger weapon. This wouldn't be a problem if he still had access to V's cache, but the shotguns they were handed have a maximum capacity of ten shots. Because it's a double-barreled shotgun, it discharges two shots every time.
This is frustrating. It's like they're using BB guns to combat dragons but thankfully, that blond dude helping them clean up house.]
Whoa! [Johnny blinks, surprised, as he watches the guy fight. He had never seen such a weapon before. It's like a spear that can split into something similar to a monowire. That's gnarly.]
Keep it still!
[He yells before aiming the Malorian at the crocodile's belly and unloading several shots into the motherfucker. Chunks of flesh go flying as Johnny keeps shooting at the thing, literally turning it into Swiss cheese. If that son of a bitch isn't dead after that, then they're in trouble.]

[It's so hard to get your footing in this sand! Roland might be an experienced fighter, but this is a new detail for sure. Harder to jump around like he's used to.
One of the crocodiles pops up from the sand and goes for him, jaws open wide. Roland has just enough time to swing the spear around, and the kaiju bites down on the side. Good thing he's not out of tricks yet. Durandal is transformed with another flick of a switch, and becomes two sword-like weapons instead of one spear. While the croc is busy trying to get leverage and flip Roland, it's not expecting the other half of the weapon to suddenly get driven down on its skull.]

[Johnny yells before switching back to his shotgun as two more sand crocodiles charge at them. He blastsĀ the fuckers in the face with a good spread shot before rapidly firing another round from his pump-action shotgun. He's not messing around anymore. While he was always fairly skilled in combat, his time with V clearly paid off.
He dashes out of the way of an approaching crocodile, blasting it in the belly as it leaps over him. These little bastards are far faster than they appear, and they are also slightly springier too. These kaijuĀ are ambush predators who lie in wait for their prey to appear, much like their crocodile cousins. However, based on their speed and agility, they appear to be stronger than the normal croc. That's not a problem, though.
Johnny has been itching for a fight.]
Yeah, don't let those little shits sneak into your blind spot!
[He warns before taking aim at another kaiju poised to lunge toward the blonde. Johnny whips out the Malorian and begins firing. He nails the wannabe-croc right through the skull, spraying blood and everything else into the air and most likely onto the unlucky blond. That power pistol of his carries one hell of a punch.]

Well, at least Roland is fast enough to make sure his mouth and eyes are closed when he gets sprayed with croc viscera. He's had much worse sprayed on him, that's for sure. Such is the life of a vampire hunter. He extracts his weapons, and rubs at his faces with his forearm sleeve.]
Fast, aren't they? They've got the advantage of being able to move about in the sand much better than I can.
[Despite all the violence that just occurred, Roland seems fine. He didn't get hurt, and really, he feels invigorated now.]

[Johnny grimaces when he realizes he accidentally drenched theĀ poor guy with kaiju blood. Blondie's going to need a long shower after this, huh? He gives the guy a sympathetic smirk before spotting something in his hair.]
Um, hang on a sec. [He leans over and plucks out what appears to be a bloody crocodile fang out of that blonde mane.] Well, well.
It seems you got a cool souvenir.
[Johnny tosses the fang over towards them. That would make a cool necklace, very safari chic.]
Think nothing of it, especially since it was you savin' my ass out here.
[He mutters as he reloads his beloved pistol. While he still has several rounds left, Johnny knowsĀ he should start conserving hisĀ ammunition. This will be an long expedition, especially with these wannabe crocodiles roaming around.]
Does anyone have the ETA on our destination? We can't keep fuckin' around out here.

[Roland looks the fang over for a moment before hiding it in a pocket. But if that was in his hair--]
How bad do I look right now?
[It's pretty gross. And who knows when they might next be back in the city. Or even near any water!]
Not sure, but if we don't start back soon, we're going to be stuck camping out here overnight. Maybe the crocodiles won't be a problem once the sun sets, though.

Yeah, we gotta keep going. The last thing I want is to camp out in this hellhole again. I got sand in places that I didnāt even know existed.
[This whole journey been nothing short of a nightmare for Johnny. While he likes the sand at the local beach, he really isnāt digging the desert aesthetic here.]

Do you think we should carve up some of those first? Just in case we do end up camping and need dinner. Though I can say I've never cooked crocodile before. Is it any good?

[A shiver runs up his spine at the thought of confronting enormous bugs. While he will never admit it, insects gross him out. It's one of the reasons why he hated whenever V had to pass through the seeder side of town. Insects fucking gross him out.]

[He grumbles as he follows Roland back to the camels. Of course, the pale-colored camel is the first to meet them. The camel leans forward and attempts to lick Johnny's face, but the rocker starĀ is still high on caffeine and quick on his feet.]
Quit it! [He deftly ducks out of the range of the camel's tongue in favor of checking up on Roland.]

[Roland's camel isn't so happy to see him. He's a little loud and boisterous for it, so when he approaches, it just starts to meander off.]

[Johnny mutters before noticing how Laurent's camel is trying to stroll away from them. Unlike his camel, it seems the blonde managed to annoy the poor animal somehow.]
Whoa, whoa! [He lets out a shrill whistle in hopes of capturing the beast's attention.] Where do you think you're going, buddy?!
[He waves his arms to attract the camel's attention while ignoring his camel that's attempting to nibble on his hair.]

[The last bit is to his camel, who is able to keep a few paces ahead of Roland as he tries to get his footing in the sand, and grab for its reins. Kills vampires and kaiju with precision, can't catch a camel.]
