TRAVEL LOG #5
TRAVEL LOG #5
βΆ 001. EYES WIDE OPEN.
"Angels of Lilith, report for duty in the DISPATCH."
The day starts off with alarms blaring and oculars shining bright lights in the Outsiders' heads, waking them up early for an emergency dispatch. Although the current Rift at Mt. Fuji needs to be explored and examined, the Rifts continue to appear in different parts of the world, and this Rift is no different. Captain Yamakawa continues,
"We have received a distress call from EGYPT. Much of the region fell during the first kaiju crisis. Now it is a desolate land that survives with the help of a generator called an ESSENCE which is currently malfunctioning. We assume the cause is Rift energy—according to our radar, there is a heavy amount of Rift energy coming from that area. We will move out immediately. Pack all the things you may need, but each Outsider will be supplied with a care package of their own containing essentials."
Even though it is 4:00 AM Tokyo time, LILITH hopes you all have slept well. It could be the very last good sleep in awhile. While the dataportal to Egypt is operational on Japan's end, because of the malfunctioning generator, Outsiders are unable to come out on the other side. The old method of using the flying cruiser will be used once again.
There will not be assigned seating for this other than by teams. Everlights will sit with Everlights, Brimstones with Brimstones, and so on. The Outsiders will be encouraged to rest on the flight, and a few hours before landing, an in-flight meal will be provided. The meal is surprisingly delicious and consists of chicken or pork katsu cutlet, but with the warning that all Outsiders will know about: it contains high amount of cyber caffeine. This sort of newly innovative caffeine can keep Outsiders awake for several days, but sometimes it may cause restlessness or hyperactivity, causing characters to have a jittery amount of energy but razor sharp focus. Other times, it simply keeps characters awake and they feel no different. The cutlet will be served with KAIJUβ’ Energy Drink. Any Outsiders that require a different diet will be provided with what they need, and the cyber caffeine will be added to it if they would like.
Yamakawa gives instructions again:
"We have received more information about the kaiju. Civilians have died in their sleep from horrible nightmares, and we are encouraging Outsiders to sleep together in pairs or groups, or disregard sleeping at all until we obtain more information. We are still receiving facts about this monster, but this meal will help with keeping everyone awake as a safety measure."
Those who do not want to have the highly caffeinated meal can have everyone's favorite: a ration bar that isn't spiked with any energy, but it doesn't taste good at all. Outsiders may be more likely to fall asleep and be in danger by choosing this meal. The balance of a dystopian society.

βΆ 002. ARRIVAL IN EGYPT.
When they finally arrive, the air is temperate and dry in Alexandria. The Outsiders might have to check their clocks once more to make sure everything is right; everyone is expected to land in the late afternoon and every clock says it should be close to evening, but the city is already growing dark with the sun setting quite early. Because of the ESSENCE disruption, Alexandria is running on back up energy, which makes for spotty lighting and loss of basic power.
LILITH will be greeted by a small group of researchers at the airport and they will help take the Outsiders to their base: the Alexandria Institute which was once the University of Alexandria. They will give the Outsiders a quick run down of the situation and some background.
When they arrive at the Institute, Outsiders will be set up in the old student dormitories. Each room has 2-4 beds depending on the room, with a common shared area on each floor. Given the current threat, there is also a supply of energy drinks and bars boosted with cyber caffeine. Outsiders have two options:
OOC NOTE: While players may write prompts for both options, we ask that you submit for a clue only once per player (not per character, as we have a lot of characters in game now!)
LILITH will be greeted by a small group of researchers at the airport and they will help take the Outsiders to their base: the Alexandria Institute which was once the University of Alexandria. They will give the Outsiders a quick run down of the situation and some background.
1. LILITH does not have a strong defense branch in the region any more. Instead, the branch here seems more focused on research, especially on the origin of kaiju and rifts.Progress has been slow because the corrupt file shut down many of their facilities. They have not been able to track the source of the Rift or identify the kaiju responsible for it. They believe the answers may be within the corrupt file and will be happy to receive any help they can get from the Outsiders.
2. This region is extremely prone to spontaneous Rifts. Many of them are small and pass quickly but this most recent one is unprecedented.
3. One evening, in the final week of March, the Alexandria Institute received a corrupt file from their fellow researchers in Greece. It shut down much of their research facility (including their warp portal) and all they have been able to recover so far are the words, "Do Not Go To Sleep."
4. The next morning, they awoke to find the sun rising later and setting earlier. It feels like the days are getting significantly shorter.
5. Many locals developed a fear of the dark and going to sleep. They would then die in their sleep within the next few days.
6. The autopsy of these victims have shown no cause of death, puzzling coroners.
1. OPTION ONE: Stay in Alexandria and help the researchers with the generators, while keeping themselves and teammates awake during the night by playing games.
2. OPTION TWO: Go out into the Egyptian desert on camel-back, spending time getting to know their camel before heading out.
OOC NOTE: While players may write prompts for both options, we ask that you submit for a clue only once per player (not per character, as we have a lot of characters in game now!)
βΆ 003. LEARN & EXPLORE. (ALEXANDRIA RESEARCH.)
Times are hard in Alexandria right now with their generators malfunctioning and efforts being split. The researchers are trying to get the generators back up and uncorrupt the data they received from Greece. LILITH will instruct the Outsiders to help with the research but also warn that they cannot afford to just sit around and wait to crack codes. The researchers also agree. Sometimes the best way to get research data is to go out into the field, but they haven't been able to do it due to not having much protection. The desert is vast, and there have been sightings of other small kaiju lurking beneath the sand and in some smaller cities.
Outsiders can decide to stay in the city of Alexandria to help crack the codes, or they can opt to go out into the field. For the latter, they can choose to stay close to home and investigate within Alexandria.
Those who wish to help with the ESSENCE generators and researchers will stay in Alexandria, using any downtime when not investigating to try and stay awake, slumber-party style. Two Truths and a Lie? Maybe Spin The Bottle? Perhaps some games can keep Outsiders enticed so they don't doze off.

βΆ 004. FEELING SANDY (DESERT EXPLORATION.)
For those who wish to explore the desert and smaller cities, Alexandria Institute will supply what they need, such as water, food, essential tools for digging, sleeping bags (no sleeping, but maybe for resting!) and anything else. To conserve energy, the researchers supply camels for the Outsiders to use. The camels are mostly tame, but have their own distinct personalities, so they may need a little more handling and can be coaxed to behave with treats like artificial carrots and bananas. Outsiders can spend time getting to know their camel if they are going to explore the desert or cities. A camel can seat two people on its back comfortably, but also carry any essentials that travelers need to bring along.
In the distant small cities and across the desert, Outsiders will come across Sand Crocodiles, one of the smaller kaiju that have been inhabiting the desert. These monsters are basically crocodiles but with a twist: they can spit fire if angered and they can camouflage in the sand. They hide strategically, and one wrong step will cause them to push their jaws out of the ground, harming a person or camel. The stubby quills along their backs or rounds of their horns aren't entirely covered while hiding, so watch carefully. Fortunately, Outsiders will be supplied with a shotgun. Aiming between the eyes or in the mouth will kill it, but also beating it with the back of the shotgun will also do the trick. And yes, they also taste like crocodile too, if anyone is hungry.
After exploring, Outsiders are requested to report their findings back in Alexandria.

EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. EYES WIDE OPEN: Outsiders travel to Egypt after receiving reports of their power generator, ESSENCE, being unstable and malfunctioning, leaving citizens in peril. They are instructed to "stay awake." They are supplied cyberpunk caffeine and told to try not to sleep or stay in pairs to be watchful of any danger.
2. ARRIVING IN EGYPT: Arriving in Alexandria, the Outsiders are confirmed that citizens have been dying in their sleep, with coroners unable to determine the cause. The days are mysteriously getting shorter and people are unable to stay awake.
3. LEARN & EXPLORE: Outsiders are given options to stay in Alexandria to help with the generator or find clues to assist the research team. Between researching, they are asked to continue to stay awake by any means possible. Those who will be exploring the desert and smaller cities for clues are given a camel for transportation. Outsiders are encouraged to get to know their camel before traveling.
4. FEELING SANDY: While looking for any clues out in the desert, Outsiders encounter smaller kaiju known as Sand Crocodiles. They hide in the sand and attack at the opportune time, snapping jaws and spitting fire. Shooting them between the eyes or in the mouth will K.O. them.

Godzilla blinks slowly as he considers things. Taryon is... very, very small right now. Yet he can make out the human's words perfectly, as if they stood within the lairs of LILITH rather than the sands of Godzilla's world of origin. Was he ever able to really understand humans this well at this scale...? ]
I swam. The Ape has made his last mistake, issuing challenge. He dies here. The thing of better questioning is how you yourself are here--
[ Blink.
Blink.
Bliiiiink.
Oh, Mothra's sake. This is like that filmographic chronicle Kaede-hime had him watch, Commencement, was it? Initiation? Something to that effect, featuring the trouper who was also central in the film about... that unfortunate human vessel in the colder ocean that Godzilla knows nothing about first hand, thank you very much.
Which if this is a memory... oh. ]
Ah. A moment.
[ Godzilla starts to slide backwards away from Taryon, though not on his own power. The great ape has hefted Goji's tail up over his shoulder and started to drag him towards a swirling blue portal in the sands like a sack of belligerent potatoes.
A thrumming hum fills the air, building steadily in intensity, the spines along Goji's back lighting up in sequence until his eyes, gills, and mouth are aglow with fiery pink energy.
The ape pauses, looks behind himself, and manages to start running just in time to avoid Godzilla's blast of atomic fire. Goji tracks the running gorilla, the beam of fire and energy cutting through one of the pyramids as Kong seeks cover behind it, the sand of the desert turning to glass instantly wherever the beam hits it.
After the attack Godzilla lets out a huff of smoke and rolls his eyes, he knows what he's supposed to do next. He'd rather not. Instead he goes off script, turning back to Taryon and lowering himself down onto a knee so he's at least a little closer in level to the human. ]
An inquiry. You are one versed well in the methodology of magics, yes?
no subject
He stays in the same spot, his bright red shirt barely a speck on the brilliant sand. It's fortunate that he does not have his golden armor, lest he truly become an undetectable sparkle.
Perhaps he should run to safety. The distance he manages to cover is pitiful, and if one of them were to suplex the other in his direction, he either would be kicked out of his memory or his body would die in real life. Thankfully, the consequences are avoided, and Godzilla finds him again while King Kong carefully peeks over his hiding spot.]
Yes! Yes, I am! Is there something I can do to help? [He must say "yes" to a chance to save the day even before he learns what he is meant to solve.]
no subject
Desert indeed, yet your kind did not settle a land fully lacking in fertility. Those who first came here, one of the first peoples, they built these tombs and their cities near a river of none insignificant size, yes? This river leads to the ocea--
[ A large stone from one of the demolished pyramids sails through the air and crashes against Godzilla's head*, causing him to let out a pained "EEONK?!" of surprise. The big guy shakes his head and turns just in time to smack another rock out of the air with his tail. A frustrated growl rumbles in his throat. ]
Vexing. This was not part of the battle. Next is when I almost took the ape's life...
[ A shake of the head as he turns his attention back to Taryon. ]
I am uncertain. This battle, it has occurred before. Events I have recollection of from shortly before my awakening amongst LILITH's packs. It makes little sense the mechanism by which you are here, perhaps your magic methodology can offer explanation or resolution?
[ *As this isn't really happening, the TBI counter does not increase. ]
no subject
Alas, a battlefield is no place for scholarship, and the imaginary enemy pulls Godzilla away from his rapt pupil, who is currently running for cover, panting.
And yet, the King of Titans continues as if this were a mere inconvenience.] They couldn't have sent you to the past? Maybe that's what the kaiju does?
no subject
[ In a very human gesture, Godzilla proceeds to smack a closed fist into his palm as a thought strikes him. ]
Friend Ereshkigal and Friend Bakugo have made mention of a kaiju who's capacity was that of mental manipulation. The foe sent many into the minds and remembered moments of one ano-- EEEONK!
[ Godzilla is interrupted by Kong's mechanical clad fist slamming right into the side of his head. The big guy stumbles backwards, shakes his head, and snorts out a plume of smoke. ]
I tire of this...
[ With a roar he charges forward and tackles the ape off his feet. Drawing himself back up he stomps on Kong's chest, the humming from his body and glow along his spines building up as he settles back into the memory's events. Although he does pause for a moment to glance over his shoulder at the tiny human who's baring witness to this. ]
An advisement, make to cover your eyes as much as is possible. I am uncertain if this circumstance we have entered can result in physical harm to yourself, yet I would not risk it.
[ The reason for that warning becomes clear mere moments later. As Godzilla turns to finish off Kong, parting his mouth to fire his attack, something erupts out of the portal they've been fighting by. It's fast, it's golden, and with a songlike cry it emits a blinding shockwave of light that sends Godzilla sprawling to the ground away from Kong.
When Godzilla gets to his feet it's to come face to face with a large moth perching on the Sphinx alongside a young human. Knowing this is a memory however, Godzilla's attention is fully on the moth.
He's smiling. That big toothy grin of his, his tail's even wagging like a somewhat pleased cat's. ]
Dearest one. A shared dream indeed then, dreams are the only moments you and I meet.
[ Mothra responds in those melodic song like calls of hers, causing the big guy to chuckle sadly as he turns to walk back towards Taryon. ]
An inquiry, Taryon. Do you possess within your magical repertoire a methodology to return us to wakefulness?
no subject
Unlike the tales he's heard of holy people using their faith to protect their loved ones or to smite a dangerous monster, this large moth attacks everyone, and Taryon feels the memory of the blast of light reaching him...
And he remains standing. In this memory, there is no person standing within the reach of the attack, and he is not harmed nor thrown to the ground. Taryon bears witness to this goddess. A moth. Who alights on a giant statue as if it were a regularly-sized insect finding a place to perch. It sings in an unknown language, which Godzilla understands and recites poetry at.
A mind-manipulation monster, then. He rests his chin on his fingers as he considers this when Godzilla turns to him.] I'm not that sort of wizard, Godzilla. But- first off, I didn't know you were a poet.
no subject
He leans up against one of the still standing pyramids. One of his elbows rests upon the stones, sinking into the structure slightly, and he rests his chin atop the palm of that hand. His other hand begins to tap out a semi-rhythmic beat as he thinks, his great claws clicking against the ancient stone. ]
Ah...? An amateur appreciator of the art form at best. I hold fondness for the works of the humans of this world however, the Lord of Tennyson, Longfellow, and what remains of the works of Sappho are of particular enjoyment to myself.
[ Tap tap tap goes his claw as he glances from Taryon over to where Mothra and Kong wait, patient yet clearly confused, and the swirling blue vortex in the sands behind them. Godzilla huffs. ]
I am... wary of continuing this remembrance further. Your kind's physical forms are ill-suited to traversing between this world and the world beneath. One requires usage of your technologies or Mothra's intervention to survive such a thing. It is... risky, yes? That it might prove impactful upon yourself in the waking world.
no subject
Beneath? You mean- [He looks down, then recalls that this isn't actually Cairo, simply a memory, and that he's not going to suffer through the worst physical impacts of the remaining scene.
Not that he wants to experience it.] Um...how about finding a way to wake up? I usually tell myself that I have to get up to get ready for breakfast, or that I'll be late for a meeting.
no subject
[ Tap tap tap. Pause. He tilts his head to the side as he considers this. ]
A confession. I have oft considered breaking my fast upon the camelidae that are plentiful in this la--
[ And pop. Thinking about making some camel sausage apparently is the exact thing they needed to kick them out of that recollection.
Godzilla isn't entirely certain the entire occurrence wasn't a dream (Damn him for falling asleep...) and can later be found enjoying breakfast in the Institute's halls. It is not, in fact, camel. He had to settle for pancakes, which are just as good. ]
no subject
Thankfully, Taryon stands up straight, completely well.] Um - you were saying?
[Now that they're back in Alexandria for some reason, Taryon is wondering what Godzilla is talking about - eating camels?
But now he's hungry, and he doesn't know how long they were dreaming, or in an illusion, or in Cairo, and he, too wants something. Probably not meat for now.]
