TRAVEL LOG #5
TRAVEL LOG #5
βΆ 001. EYES WIDE OPEN.
"Angels of Lilith, report for duty in the DISPATCH."
The day starts off with alarms blaring and oculars shining bright lights in the Outsiders' heads, waking them up early for an emergency dispatch. Although the current Rift at Mt. Fuji needs to be explored and examined, the Rifts continue to appear in different parts of the world, and this Rift is no different. Captain Yamakawa continues,
"We have received a distress call from EGYPT. Much of the region fell during the first kaiju crisis. Now it is a desolate land that survives with the help of a generator called an ESSENCE which is currently malfunctioning. We assume the cause is Rift energy—according to our radar, there is a heavy amount of Rift energy coming from that area. We will move out immediately. Pack all the things you may need, but each Outsider will be supplied with a care package of their own containing essentials."
Even though it is 4:00 AM Tokyo time, LILITH hopes you all have slept well. It could be the very last good sleep in awhile. While the dataportal to Egypt is operational on Japan's end, because of the malfunctioning generator, Outsiders are unable to come out on the other side. The old method of using the flying cruiser will be used once again.
There will not be assigned seating for this other than by teams. Everlights will sit with Everlights, Brimstones with Brimstones, and so on. The Outsiders will be encouraged to rest on the flight, and a few hours before landing, an in-flight meal will be provided. The meal is surprisingly delicious and consists of chicken or pork katsu cutlet, but with the warning that all Outsiders will know about: it contains high amount of cyber caffeine. This sort of newly innovative caffeine can keep Outsiders awake for several days, but sometimes it may cause restlessness or hyperactivity, causing characters to have a jittery amount of energy but razor sharp focus. Other times, it simply keeps characters awake and they feel no different. The cutlet will be served with KAIJUβ’ Energy Drink. Any Outsiders that require a different diet will be provided with what they need, and the cyber caffeine will be added to it if they would like.
Yamakawa gives instructions again:
"We have received more information about the kaiju. Civilians have died in their sleep from horrible nightmares, and we are encouraging Outsiders to sleep together in pairs or groups, or disregard sleeping at all until we obtain more information. We are still receiving facts about this monster, but this meal will help with keeping everyone awake as a safety measure."
Those who do not want to have the highly caffeinated meal can have everyone's favorite: a ration bar that isn't spiked with any energy, but it doesn't taste good at all. Outsiders may be more likely to fall asleep and be in danger by choosing this meal. The balance of a dystopian society.

βΆ 002. ARRIVAL IN EGYPT.
When they finally arrive, the air is temperate and dry in Alexandria. The Outsiders might have to check their clocks once more to make sure everything is right; everyone is expected to land in the late afternoon and every clock says it should be close to evening, but the city is already growing dark with the sun setting quite early. Because of the ESSENCE disruption, Alexandria is running on back up energy, which makes for spotty lighting and loss of basic power.
LILITH will be greeted by a small group of researchers at the airport and they will help take the Outsiders to their base: the Alexandria Institute which was once the University of Alexandria. They will give the Outsiders a quick run down of the situation and some background.
When they arrive at the Institute, Outsiders will be set up in the old student dormitories. Each room has 2-4 beds depending on the room, with a common shared area on each floor. Given the current threat, there is also a supply of energy drinks and bars boosted with cyber caffeine. Outsiders have two options:
OOC NOTE: While players may write prompts for both options, we ask that you submit for a clue only once per player (not per character, as we have a lot of characters in game now!)
LILITH will be greeted by a small group of researchers at the airport and they will help take the Outsiders to their base: the Alexandria Institute which was once the University of Alexandria. They will give the Outsiders a quick run down of the situation and some background.
1. LILITH does not have a strong defense branch in the region any more. Instead, the branch here seems more focused on research, especially on the origin of kaiju and rifts.Progress has been slow because the corrupt file shut down many of their facilities. They have not been able to track the source of the Rift or identify the kaiju responsible for it. They believe the answers may be within the corrupt file and will be happy to receive any help they can get from the Outsiders.
2. This region is extremely prone to spontaneous Rifts. Many of them are small and pass quickly but this most recent one is unprecedented.
3. One evening, in the final week of March, the Alexandria Institute received a corrupt file from their fellow researchers in Greece. It shut down much of their research facility (including their warp portal) and all they have been able to recover so far are the words, "Do Not Go To Sleep."
4. The next morning, they awoke to find the sun rising later and setting earlier. It feels like the days are getting significantly shorter.
5. Many locals developed a fear of the dark and going to sleep. They would then die in their sleep within the next few days.
6. The autopsy of these victims have shown no cause of death, puzzling coroners.
1. OPTION ONE: Stay in Alexandria and help the researchers with the generators, while keeping themselves and teammates awake during the night by playing games.
2. OPTION TWO: Go out into the Egyptian desert on camel-back, spending time getting to know their camel before heading out.
OOC NOTE: While players may write prompts for both options, we ask that you submit for a clue only once per player (not per character, as we have a lot of characters in game now!)
βΆ 003. LEARN & EXPLORE. (ALEXANDRIA RESEARCH.)
Times are hard in Alexandria right now with their generators malfunctioning and efforts being split. The researchers are trying to get the generators back up and uncorrupt the data they received from Greece. LILITH will instruct the Outsiders to help with the research but also warn that they cannot afford to just sit around and wait to crack codes. The researchers also agree. Sometimes the best way to get research data is to go out into the field, but they haven't been able to do it due to not having much protection. The desert is vast, and there have been sightings of other small kaiju lurking beneath the sand and in some smaller cities.
Outsiders can decide to stay in the city of Alexandria to help crack the codes, or they can opt to go out into the field. For the latter, they can choose to stay close to home and investigate within Alexandria.
Those who wish to help with the ESSENCE generators and researchers will stay in Alexandria, using any downtime when not investigating to try and stay awake, slumber-party style. Two Truths and a Lie? Maybe Spin The Bottle? Perhaps some games can keep Outsiders enticed so they don't doze off.

βΆ 004. FEELING SANDY (DESERT EXPLORATION.)
For those who wish to explore the desert and smaller cities, Alexandria Institute will supply what they need, such as water, food, essential tools for digging, sleeping bags (no sleeping, but maybe for resting!) and anything else. To conserve energy, the researchers supply camels for the Outsiders to use. The camels are mostly tame, but have their own distinct personalities, so they may need a little more handling and can be coaxed to behave with treats like artificial carrots and bananas. Outsiders can spend time getting to know their camel if they are going to explore the desert or cities. A camel can seat two people on its back comfortably, but also carry any essentials that travelers need to bring along.
In the distant small cities and across the desert, Outsiders will come across Sand Crocodiles, one of the smaller kaiju that have been inhabiting the desert. These monsters are basically crocodiles but with a twist: they can spit fire if angered and they can camouflage in the sand. They hide strategically, and one wrong step will cause them to push their jaws out of the ground, harming a person or camel. The stubby quills along their backs or rounds of their horns aren't entirely covered while hiding, so watch carefully. Fortunately, Outsiders will be supplied with a shotgun. Aiming between the eyes or in the mouth will kill it, but also beating it with the back of the shotgun will also do the trick. And yes, they also taste like crocodile too, if anyone is hungry.
After exploring, Outsiders are requested to report their findings back in Alexandria.

EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. EYES WIDE OPEN: Outsiders travel to Egypt after receiving reports of their power generator, ESSENCE, being unstable and malfunctioning, leaving citizens in peril. They are instructed to "stay awake." They are supplied cyberpunk caffeine and told to try not to sleep or stay in pairs to be watchful of any danger.
2. ARRIVING IN EGYPT: Arriving in Alexandria, the Outsiders are confirmed that citizens have been dying in their sleep, with coroners unable to determine the cause. The days are mysteriously getting shorter and people are unable to stay awake.
3. LEARN & EXPLORE: Outsiders are given options to stay in Alexandria to help with the generator or find clues to assist the research team. Between researching, they are asked to continue to stay awake by any means possible. Those who will be exploring the desert and smaller cities for clues are given a camel for transportation. Outsiders are encouraged to get to know their camel before traveling.
4. FEELING SANDY: While looking for any clues out in the desert, Outsiders encounter smaller kaiju known as Sand Crocodiles. They hide in the sand and attack at the opportune time, snapping jaws and spitting fire. Shooting them between the eyes or in the mouth will K.O. them.
i'm so sorry this is delayed! it got lost in the cracks! dammit!
The ones where you share it with someone.
[Yeah, he doesn't sound all that happy about it. Never liked people prying into his personal business.]
You didn't see anything, so we didn't...
[Share a dream that is. Not this time.]
A fucking villain when I was younger. Got the jump on me.
happens to the best of us
... It's have rather it been with you than-- Ratio-san.
[Things have been quite rocky between the two recently. Raidou has pretty much given up on getting along with any of the adults among the Outsiders at this point.]
I'd rather fight a dozen thousand-meter dragon kaiju than deal with another ones of these that mess with your mind. [An unusual bit of hyperbole from Raidou. Or is it?] You're here, so... my guess is that even if this villain got the jump on you, eventually the hero won the day.
no subject
What the hell happened with you and Know-it-All?
[Sorry, Katsuki doesn't pay much attention to his friends' interpersonal relationships unless it shows up in his face. He expects people to be mature and work their problems out or agree on non-interaction like grownups.]
Tch. I'd only wanna fight the mind one if it means the city gets spared. [Instead of rampaging around destroying buildings and threatening people's lives, they could take out the kaiju in the mindscape!]
Aa. All Might took the bastard out in one blow.
[Most people wouldn't hear it, but Raidou's known Katsuki long enough, and he's perceptive enough, that he wouldn't miss the underlying current of something else. A heaviness, almost guilt or frustration, over an unspoken facet.]
no subject
It doesn't matter. All I do is seem to make him angry.
[Raidou tried his best, as he felt like he had a lot to learn from the doctor. He just doesn't understand the guy, and vice versa.
Tsunderes, am I right?Raidou certainly doesn't miss those subtle cues.]
... It never feels great when someone else comes in and finishes your work. But in the end, you're on the same side.
no subject
Figure out why and address it. You're not stupid.
[Ratio's usually the kind of guy to avoid getting emotional during conversations. How Raidou manages to keep pissing him off is as impressive as it is weird. But if the relationship's important enough, Katsuki expects the two to work it out. Seriously, both of them are among the most stoic of their group. How the hell do they make each other angry?
Even if it's a clash of morals or tolerances, agree to disagree and move to another damn topic! Sheesh...]
No. It wasn't like that. [He leans his back to the wall, frowning into space.] When that fucking sludge bastard captured me, I was gonna die if no one stepped in. The only one who moved to save me was De- Midoriya. Back then, I hated him and bullied him all the time... But he was the only one who tried to help.
[All the other heroes around were frozen in fear or indecision, not wanting to hurt Katsuki while handling Sludge Villain. Oh, should probably also point out the bastard smothering Katsuki was able to make use of the schoolboy's powerful Quirk. So running in there recklessly would only get people blasted.]
no subject
It-- I don't need to be friends with every Outsider. I can work with someone regardless. Just... wish that if anyone was going to be shoved into my memories, it could have been literally anyone else.
[Well. Maybe not Silco.
He can't help but reiterate his point with a slight smile, even if it's now applying to a different person.]
... Because in the end, you're on the same side. I'm glad he was there to help you.
no subject
Never said you did. [That'd be fucking stupid to think you could get along with over 60 people. Raidou says he can work with Ratio and Katsuki believes him. But working out the issue sounds like a better idea.]
So what happened? Did you two agree to never speak of it again?
[Call him immature, but it's kind of amusing to hear Raidou griping about something. Even if it's about someone else. Katsuki lets his upper body ease against the wall.]
Aa. [It goes deeper than that, but guess that's a conversation for another day.] Still hate thinking about that slimy bastard.
no subject
He thinks about the last words he and the doctor exchanged, over text, and that was what it basically boiled down to.]
... Yeah. I hate when those-- those texts of your thoughts get out. It's unfair.
[As that was what spurned their last argument.]
If you're having nightmares about it, then yeah, I'd imagine so. Must have been a tough foe.
no subject
Another reason why he thinks Ratio and Raidou should be able to work out their differences. Peaceful coexistence is a decent compromise, but considering it sounds like both of them keep getting on each other's nerves, indicating continued interaction, Katsuki's calling the compromise bullshit. Either stay the course or fix the road!]
Tch. No shit. Everyone know when they happen! Those damn extras shouldn't respond to what's not for them!
[Katsuki venting on something only tangibly related. Oop! Raidou hit his pride button!]
I could've slaughtered that asshole if he hadn't caught me off guard!
[A year ago (back home) he would've blamed Midoriya for distracting him, but... maturity.]
no subject
That's why I try not to respond to them. Doesn't feel right.
[He's not perturbed by the outburst.]
It's always easy to look back and say things like that. [It's not a pointed statement, but an expression of sympathy.] How often I replay my interactions with Seimei in my head. Wondering what I missed, before... before that day.
[Before the betrayal that Katsuki was witness to last time.]
no subject
[His broadcasted him checking out the damn bites Denji left on him in the mirror! NOT FOR OTHER PEOPLE TO SEE!!]
Tch. I was distracted. [Grumbling because he knows that's not really an excuse. He can't give such a thing as if it'll cover up a loss or a mistake. But still, it's fucking embarrassing to get jumped by a low-rank piece of shit villain when Katsuki views himself so highly. And for good reason.]
You've probably come up with a lot of answers, huh.
no subject
I can only hope others would extend me the same courtesy, but that doesn't seem to happen.
[The answers Raidou has come up with as to why Seimei was able to best him are, at best, embarrassing. Raidou was taken in by having someone he thought of as a friend, someone who understood the strange lives they lead, someone who just wanted to be strong like Raidou was. The answer?]
... Yeah. Not to trust anyone.
[Because if Seimei could turn out to be a villain, anyone could. Add it to the reasons Raidou ultimately has a hard time getting along with others.]
A tough lesson to follow, and, no one here has a reason to-- to do what Seimei did, but...
[It's still hard to shake.]
Just like how it's hard to not get distracted, especially here.
no subject
Then tell them to fuck off.
[He definitely did when two people commented on his embarrassing thoughts. They... didn't actually fuck off, and he even made a new contact from one of them. Still roared at them!]
Hmph. You don't believe that answer even if it's logical.
[Because he knows Raidou still trusts some of the Outsiders he's close to. Regardless of getting along with someone, trust is a different thing altogether.]
If someone did, LILITH would send their ass back home before they could do real harm.
[They've blitzed people back to their world who were actually doing well here!]
no subject
[There are a few Outsiders he is close to, that is true. But they're small in number, and it seems to get harder every day with anyone else.
Raidou gives Katsuki a skeptical look at that last statement.]
Would they? You know that Sukuna is here, right?
[He has no doubt his friend knows that name, too.]
no subject
And he's limited. He can't make full use of his powers and apparently he gets reined back if he attempts to kill an Outsider.
[Katsuki's well aware of Sukuna, and what he's done to Yuji in the past. Though he refuses to forgive the man for his actions in his own world, he also isn't going to let that influence his personal judgement of the curse while he's in this world.]
Remember last year after Seoul when that shitty captain called us into the room and bitched us out for their mistakes? I tried blowing up the screen and got knocked out for it.
[He has zero apology or regrets for his actions. If the man himself had been there in person, Bakugo would've attacked him. But either way, LILITH stepped in and shut him (and Godzilla for that matter) down.]
They also curbed Goji and Know-it-All's abilities after their fight. Those bastards can handle our aggression however they fucking want.
[So he's not worried about Sukuna doing much harm to the operations here.]
no subject
He debates confessing this, since it was such an utter embarrassment on his part in several ways. But it could also serve as a warning.]
I knew, that... that being new, he'd be limited. But, not enough. Maybe. [Maybe he's just still too weak.]
When I saw him, I... I-It was like everything went red. I knew he'd be less powerful. I had my Kuzunoha sword on me. [The sword with which he performs exorcisms.] I thought, maybe, I had a chance. Forgetting that LILITH wouldn't allow it, in the moment. But maybe it didn't matter, anyway. One Black Flash, and it was over.
[It was stupid, yes, and he regrets it. But all he could think about at the time was Yuji, and what this person had done to him, his friends and allies, his city, and Raidou was filled with rage and vengeance on Yuji's behalf. Love makes you do strange and stupid things.]
no subject
Aaand knows exactly what he's going to say the moment Raidou starts with "when i saw him".] Dammit, Shashou!
[Luckily the summoner gets to say the rest of his admission without Bakugo interrupting, but his expression's a mix of exasperation and annoyance. Can he blame Raidou? Hell no! He knows where he's coming from; that's his boyfriend's mortal enemy showing up, likely rubbing his heinous behavior in other people's faces. Bakugo has luckily never met Denji's mortal enemy, who's also here, so he's not had the "pleasure" of this experience Raidou's referencing.
But still...] Baka. Where'd he hit you?
[Yes, he's inspecting his friend's face for damage.]
no subject
... On the jaw.
[Which is the reason a few weeks back that he disappeared for a few days until he healed up. At least LILITH didn't punish him further. Dr. Spim was pretty confident Raidou had learned his lesson. If not, next time will be different.]
I'm fine. It's-- [It's not fine, though.] Yuji was really mad at me. He had every reason to be.
[Somehow, that hurt worse than a Black Flash to the face by the King of Curses.]
no subject
I hope he kicked your fucking ass for it.
[Damn right it should hurt worse! Did Raidou really think Yuji would be happy he risked getting himself crippled for his honor? What if Sukuna hadn't been depowered? He could've been "the one kill" that forced LILITH to shackle the curse! While Katsuki's not gonna go singing the curse's praise or any bullshit like that, he's not blind to different Outsider strengths.]
I know how you feel. But it's not our place to make someone pay for something they did in their own world. [Katsuki leans back on his hands, rough voice a little quieter.] You can avoid interacting with people you don't like, but you should judge people based on their actions here, not their past you had no presence in.
[Does it excuse Sukuna? No. But what if someone came from a world where yokai and demons were the main? Raidou could be considered a flagrant murderer and manipulator in their world. Doesn't justify that potential Outsider trying to murder him for it.]
no subject
[Raidou rubs his face tiredly.]
Especially because someone-- they could be here from a different time, o-or something, but--
[Someone who might be from a time before whatever terrible thing they did. But he shakes his head, recalling the overwhelming feeling he got from Sukuna. How he can feel it whenever the man is close.]
He reads like-- just like a powerful demon. Curses are different, but so similar too.
[Not surprising, when Raidou knows how much in common devil summoners and jujutsu sorcerers have in common.]
Something that I knew, deep down, was a danger to everyone. But he's an Outsider now.
[His voice darkens on that last line. What a cruel joke, what an atrocious thing to do to Yuji and the other sorcerers. Was there not one other person in all of the universe available?]
So I must act accordingly.
no subject
[Heart and nerves went "screw you!" to any logical rationale Raidou might've otherwise had. Yeah, feelings can be a pain in the ass; Katsuki's not denying that despite encouraging the summoner to avoid regressing into a metal soldier again.]
You're gonna face a similar issue if they decide to bring Seimei here.
[Is it an underhanded comment? Kind of. And yet, it's no different than Yuji facing off against Sukuna as an ally, or Katsuki have to work alongside Shigaraki or All for One. People he hates, yet couldn't directly sabotage if they arrived here.
Generally he'd try to avoid them at least? Until he had a better grasp of how they were going to act.]
You don't have to get along with him.
[Just like how Raidou and Ratio are having a spat.]
no subject
He doesn't like the idea of his Fight or Flight reasoning leaning so hard towards such a violent fight response.]
Yeah, Instincts, I guess.
[Not that the thought of someone from Raidou's past showing up hadn't crossed his mind - Nagi, the Demifiend, even his double would all be good candidates - he never considered Seimei among them. He can't hide a look of dread at the idea.]
I'd like to say such an idea is preposterous, but LILITH has proved they'll bring just about anyone.
[Sukuna is here. Someone like Silco is here. And while Seimei isn't physically strong, he's still a powerful and crafty onmyouji.
He considers this for a moment, before looking askance at his friend, a tiny smile appearing.]
... If he shows up, Yuji just better let me get the first punch in.
no subject
A fighter is a fighter. These people don't give a shit who so long as they can battle.
[The fact they haven't brought anyone else from Katsuki's world is as curious as them bringing some bad guy from another person's world. So many strong battlers haven't been called upon, and LILITH is capable of doing it. So why? He stopped trying to make sense of LILITH a long time ago.]
Heh. [Raidou gets a brief snort of amusement and Katsuki rolls his shoulders to stretch his upper back.] I don't think Gari Head's gonna randomly punch some mewbie even if he heard bad things about them.
[Glare at them, get between them and the afflicted person, threaten them, all that and yes, but... Katsuki heard he mouthed off to Sukuna first, before throwing the punch, so his opinion's grounded.]
