KAIJU FIGHT #10
KAIJU FIGHT #10
▶ 001. FIND THE HIVE.
Reports of mysterious drumming deep in the forest seem promising. With the assistance of local scouts, they also find a clear path of destruction marked by dead plants and fallen insect kaiju. After collecting enough data, LILITH Mexico calls back the Outsiders and their scouts to regroup and recover for what they believe to be the final battle.
Based on their understanding of the region, the clues they've found, and Rift readings, they suspect a human-threat level kaiju is at the location of a known ancient temple. The reason they called the Outsiders back, however, is because it seems like not just one but two of these kaiju might be there. They want the Outsiders to recoup their strength before they head out.
Additionally, they believe one of the kaiju is one they have records of. A long time ago, during the first kaiju attacks, a plant-like kaiju they called "Nephenthipula" appeared and destroyed many cities which resulted in them becoming swallowed up by the expanding jungle. Over time, it simply went dormant and the forest became what it is today. They don't know why it suddenly returned but they suspect it might have something to do with the forest.
Before the teams are sent out, Dr. Flores approaches. Thanks to the hard work and research the Outsiders have been able to do, a basic antidote has been created that should be effective in helping to deal with most of the symptoms that they’ve been experiencing. There’s a very limited amount, however, and he recommends that the Outsiders are cautious: once it’s gone, there won’t be any more until the kaiju is dealt with.
The other downside? It’s not completely refined, so some Outsiders might continue to face side effects. He has more good news to offset this, though: Based on toxicology reports and additional reports about abandoned hives and dead colonies, he suspects the second kaiju might be a wasp of some sort.
Both the wasp kaiju and the Nephenthipula are located deep within the jungle, further even than most outsiders have dared to travel. Interestingly, based on the coordinates they have received so far... they both seem to be in the same vicinity. Before being sent out they will be warned to prepare for a potential double battle.

▶ 002. OPERATION: NEPHENTHIPULA
The trip to the designated coordinate is fraught with danger. The forest seems to close in on itself, like it is protecting whatever it is that the Outsiders are trying to reach. The vines almost seem to take on a life of their own, the deeper into the jungle they travel. Forest creatures will attack outsiders, divebombing and trying to stop them when they take breaks from the trek deeper into the jungle. The deadly plants will become more aggressive, and the deeper Outsiders go… the quieter it gets.
The animals stop attacking. The vines almost seem half-hearted as they move deeper. They are thinner and weaker. Many are cut or rotted. They’ve been chewed through and though they still try to stop the outsiders, it is more like stopping the inevitable. As Outsiders breach the treeline, they’ll come into a clearing, where not only the Nephenthipula resides, rising from the forest like a raging colossus, but it is focused on a ruin. On trying to destroy it, its vines try to slap down stone towers, and strangle out parts of the ruin, but on the Outsiders' arrival, its focus is now fully shifted to focus on the new arrivals. Now is your chance, but Outsiders will find that they have to split up, and while some stay and fight the Nephenthipula; intel says that the Vescidae is inside the ruins but there is no clear way in.
Outsiders will quickly realize the Nephenthipula is not alone. In response to the plant kaiju, the entire forest seems to come to its aid. Vines will spread across the battlefield, attempting to tangle and strangle the Outsiders. Different vines manifest thorns, carnivorous flowers, and razor leaves to deter them even more.
Local kaiju also join in. Mutated jaguars, monkeys, snakes, and iguanas appear to further hinder their advances. From above, mutated butterflies, hummingbirds, and beetles rain pollen dosed with Rift energy. On top of the usual Rift sickness, this one seems to have an additional effect as well. The longer Outsiders are exposed to it, the more reluctant they are to attack the plant life and animal kaiju. They will feel a bond with the forest and become aggressive towards Outsiders causing harm.
The forest is their ally. They have to protect the forest at all costs. If that means turning against their friends then so be it. As long as Outsiders ally with the forest, they will find that they can call on it to assist them in limited capacity. They can use vines to block attacks and command some of the mutated kaiju to attack. Fortunately, Dr. Flores' antidote uses resources from the forest itself to counter some of these effects.

▶ 003. INTO THE HIVE.
Observant Outsiders may notice an entrance into the temple. They will have to find a way up the steps, over living and dead vines. Occasionally the vines cover the entrance so Outsiders will have to destroy them again and again to enter.
With this being the only entrance and the vines controlling how many can enter at a time, it is essentially a bottleneck. Those who enter first will have to be ready to respond quickly because sentry wasps the size of housecats will charge at them. They are small, fast, and aggressive but weak. Their stings are incredibly painful to victims but fatal to the wasps which die shortly after. However, after being stung, the Outsider may notice they are attacked more frequently, as if they have been specifically marked.
Eventually, the sentry drones die or retreat, granting them peace. The inside of the temple is covered in a paper-mache like material. Instead of the regular comb shaped pattern one might expect, the combs are shaped like stars. From deep inside the temple, they will hear a steady drumming sound. Following the drumming sound will lead them to even more sentry drones as well as larger soldier drones that are far more aggressive.
They will have to navigate the catacombs of the temple to find and kill the queen. Surprisingly, characters that have been stung will instinctively know which direction they need to go in and will feel drawn to its location. They will also be able to telepathically communicate with others who have been stung or significantly affected by the hive's rift energy.
They will encounter more sentry drones as well as larger solder drones that are far more aggressive. They will also find comb filled with a thick, sweet, milky colored substance and larvae in the center. Characters affected by the hivemind will know this is a precious, nutrient rich resource. Maybe it might be worth collecting?

▶ 004. OPERATION: VESCIDAE
The drumming sound becomes practically deafening and the Outsiders will find themselves in a great, open hall. The walls are carved with designs all the way up to the ceiling which is filled with stars. In the center of the hall they will see the Queen Vescidae. Her wings beat in a steady, drumming sound that echoes off the walls as she takes to the air and attacks.
As she attacks, drones will fly down from the ceiling to her aid. The venom from their stings is very potent and fast acting. At first, it clears the mind of their victims but some Outsiders react to this differently. Some Outsiders become incredibly calm and relaxed, as if all of their concerns– including the battle– are unimportant to them. Others will find that their new clarity makes it easier for them to focus, making them react to attacks faster and giving them an energy boost. For those who are particularly unlucky, however, the venom seems to wipe their minds completely, making them incredibly susceptible to the hypnotic beating of the Queen Vescidae's wings.
Certain Outsiders may suddenly find themselves turning on their friends as they become loyal to the hive. Their priority will become protecting the queen. By essentially becoming new drones, they become a part of the hive's hierarchy and can order lesser drones to assist them. Outsiders that still have Dr. Flores' antidote can protect themselves and potentially save some of their friends.
In a closed space, the battle is especially chaotic and it only gets worse when parts of the temple-hive begin to crumble and collapse. Vines pierce through the walls and outside attacks make the entire hive tremble. Letting in light and fresh air from outside which provides some relief. Shinn is able to land a critical attack on the Vescidae which stuns it. It staggers in the air disoriented and this allows the Outsiders to attack more easily. Shoto sets it on fire and it frantically begins to fly into the walls of the hive, causing more of it to collapse. Eventually, a reckless attack from Geto brings it down once and for all, putting an end to it.
The Vescidae smolders as parts of the hive and temple collapse around it. As parts of the ceiling collapse, they can see the traditional star designs up close. At the center of each star is a drawing of a striped insect.

▶ 005. AFTERMATH.
Outside the hive, the battlefield and temple are swallowed up by vines and plantlife. In all of the chaos, it is impossible to tell where the Nephenthipula stops and where the Nephenthipula begins. They finally get a break when Ereshkigal's spears do massive damage, severing many of the Nephenthipula's vines. This makes it easier for Outsiders to attack closer or allows them to focus on holding back the forest and lesser kaiju. Weakened by everyone's efforts, the Nephenthipula eventually grows tired which allows Raphael to find an opening. The kaiju falls to the ground and begins to wither. As it turns to dust, a voice whispers, "How could you all do this to us and this planet?"
With its most powerful fighter defeated, the forest has taken a major blow. It still tries to defend itself but all of its attacks are much weaker. It does not stop until the hive temple begins to crumble and the beating sound from within comes to a stop. Suddenly, everything goes silent as the vines still and the lesser kaiju stop to observe.
Finally, the forest breathes. The vines recede and the lesser kaiju return to the jungle, leaving the Outsiders alone.
With the kaiju dealt with, it’s like a heavy weight has been lifted from the city, and the air itself feels less oppressive. Many of the issues that Outsiders had been dealing with seem to settle, the way of nature restored. It’s not all perfect, and there are still some lingering effects of pollen and other issues, but things seem to be better, to say the least. The Rift energy that had plagued the landscape settles and, over time, begins to recede.
One of the more lingering effects is the sickness affecting the civilians. Dr. Flores, using the research materials that Outsiders had returned to base, has begun to create a cure for the strain. There’s a catch: there’s no one to test it on except the Outsiders, so he reluctantly asks for their aid in seeing how effective it is. At first, it doesn’t seem to work too successfully, so Dr. Flores requests the venom of the Vescidae and the royal honey-like substance in order to supplement the cure, and tasks Outsiders with bringing samples of the venom back to base. Once this is added, it works far better.
There are various side effects as the cure is tested. The happier of Outsiders might find themselves prone to bursts of anger and irritation, while the more bitter team members could find themselves experiencing bouts of ecstasy and euphoria. As night falls, some might find themselves irrationally afraid of the dark and struggling with a chronic case of insomnia, which nothing seems to relieve. Thanks to the kaiju venom, there are still lingering effects from previous ventures into the jungle… The same violence and extreme emotions from before (yes, those too).
In addition, in the city there is another kind of testing, the kaiju left more than just venom behind, after all. Some vendors, perfumers, and even bars and smoke shops are making use of the remaining pollen, and Outsiders might find themselves asked to try a free sample, or get sprayed with a random perfume without their asking. Surely it’s fine! You might find yourself subjected to some of the pollen effects, like the increased hunger (of any kind) so you might want to go satiate those munchies, pronto!
Once the cure has been tested appropriately, Dr. Flores begins to make the rounds on the locals, dealing with the most sick first. The cure is also handed out to the Outsiders, so they can do their part. Dr. Flores congratulates the Outsiders on their success, and seems genuinely pleased - and proud? - of the work they’ve put in. What’s that about blood sacrifices…? He doesn’t want to hear about any of that. Just hand over any remaining insects, please, and get ready for a return to home.

This is Kaiju Fight #10! All comments in this event count for 2 points towards August AC. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask them below.
EVENT BREAKDOWN/RECAP (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. FIND THE HIVE: Outsiders receive coordinates and useful information for their upcoming battle. Dr. Flores provides a basic antidote to protect them.
2. OPERATION: NEPHENTHIAPULA: The Nephenthipula is found outside a temple. The forest and native kaiju assist the Nephenthipula. Some Outsiders might feel a bond with the forest and turn on them. Dr. Flores's antidote can protect and cure some of them.
3. INTO THE HIVE: The temple has been converted into a hive. They fight drones while searching for the queen. They also find a royal honey-like in some of the combs.
4. OPERATION: VESCIDAE: The Queen Vescidae can induct Outsiders into the hivemind. Dr. Flores's antidote can protect and cure some of them.
5. AFTERMATH: The Nephenthipula is defeated and whispers an ominous question to the Outsiders as the forest retreats. Dr. Flores asks the Outsiders to collect venom and royal jelly from the battlefield to create a better cure. Outsiders can opt in to test the new antidote.

GRUMPYORI IS IN DA HOUSE
That extends to even her grabbing him and bodily forcing him into taking a startled step back, breath catching in his throat and brows furrowing, like he's just been slapped.
Then it looks like he's about to burst into tears, lip jutting out and quivering on its own.]
I-It's just the one...! And they're nicotine-free, okay?
[His hands come up to cover hers, eyes searching out hers with worry.]
Hiyori, what's wrong...?
crabbYORI
Sorry, that was - no. No, not okay!! It starts with one! Don't even start!
[ her mood is so all over the place. from apologetic to pissed all over again to tired. ]
I - I'm fine. I don't mean to snap, I... I was helping Dr. Flores with testing and development of the cure...
🦀🦀🦀 scuttle scuttle scuttle
I was just worried about you and needed an outlet. I'm sorry... I won't do it again.
[It's her back and forth that has him so concerned, giving way to worry over his own hurt. So he takes her hands gently in his own, clutching them carefully with thumbs rubbing over her knuckles.]
Oh... Those experimental treatments, huh? Is that what's bothering you? Should we let them know you're experiencing mood swings? I wonder if they have some kind of counter-cure for it...
skskskksksksksks
in any case, he's forgiven.
she squeezes back, looking up at him guiltily. ]
They know about the mood swings. [ a quick and sharp answer, as she's trying to get a hold of herself. calm, composed. deep breaths. iiiiiiiiin, ooooooooooout. ]
It would take more tests and trials to find a cure for the cure. It's all so - [ fucked, in layman's terms. the silver lining is it seems to have done it's job as far as sickness goes. and it's headed towards fighting the rifts as a whole.
she lifts her foot from the smashed cigarette, frowning. ]
I'm fine. But maybe I should steer clear everyone for the time being. I don't want to hurt someone else's feelings because of this. I already hurt yours...
crab walk crab dance 🦀✨🦀✨🦀
She's right, of course. He shouldn't do so, no matter what kind it is. He just couldn't find her and thus resorted to an easy outlet in the meantime.
He's relieved to see her calming down, though.]
Okay... Just so long as they're aware. I know it's not much, but... [He trails off, watching her with increasing worry, clutching her hands in his own until their fingers are interlocked.]
It's not easy, I imagine, to come up with something so quickly. Still... I hate seeing you unwell in any way. [Meaning that he's no happy she used herself as a guinea pig. But he has no right to criticize her or prevent her from participating in any way. All he can do is keep an eye on her.
His gaze follows her movement, down to her foot, then back up again.]
That may be for the best. I'm okay, though. I know you don't mean it. [Right...?] If you need anything, you'll tell me, right...? [He licks his lips, feeling a pang of that hunger again.]
https://youtu.be/LDU_Txk06tM?si=5AvhJETW4-bTfcOW
daikoku smokes but... that's different. besides, yato is mortal ENOUGH here that it's a concern.
the difference too is that she kisses that mouth. no smoking allowed. ]
It's not. There were bound to be some mistakes, but better on us than testing on innocent civilians and them getting it worse - [ even if yato has to witness unwell hiyori. no, she's fine. just sour. ] I'm sorry it's upsetting, Yato, but I have to help. This is the way I can.
[ nothing terrible happened. she felt more strange when she was stung in the temple. their eyes meet and she nods.
of course she doesn't mean it. well, the habit is foul. yato isn't. ]
I will. [ she starts to let go of his hand so she can isolate herself for the day but pauses at his body language and the look on his face. ] ... What about you? Where... did you get that cigarette anyway?
asdlfkj truly there is a video for everything
At least Yato isn't putting the cigarettes in his nose and ears like Daikoku...?
That is reason enough, though. Her simply not liking is all the incentive he needs. Thankfully the ones he got here are more minty-herby than the gross nicotine flavors that they usually have.]
I suppose you're right. We seem to be stronger than the average person here, and trying it on those who are already sick is... not good. [Though he would prefer that she not be subjected to any negative effects. It pains him to see her struggling and angry.] I know. Just remember, I'm here for you, okay?
[If all she experiences is moodiness, then he'll be satisfied. So long as no harm comes to her...
Her words sting, but there's a truth to them as well, one he can't deny.]
Okay. [At her questions, he bites his lip, worrying it a bit before answering. Hunger gnawing at his insides.] One of the shops back in town had some. They were free! I got a whole pack for nothing!
[NOT AT ALL SUSPICIOUS..... He produces the pack of cigarettes from his pocket, showing them to her. There's writing on it, but of course he can't read it. Though should it be run through the ocular's translator, it comes back as "SAMPLE A."]
hehe
at the very least, she's taking a short break from testing. it's taking a toll on her too. it could be worse? ]
I remember.
[ it could always be worse.
she waits for him to answer, smothering her impatience because it's coming from side effects and not how she actually feels. any disappointment in him taking random and free things from strangers is all real though. please where is the survival instinct. ]
You have got to stop taking suspicious merchandise from people.
[ she takes the pack from him with a sigh and has the restraint NOT to crush it in her fist. not before letting her ocular translate the text. her eyes glow bright as she reads, in bold letters, "SAMPLE A". ]
Yato. You've been drugged.
<333
He wants to be there the next time she offers herself up for testing. To be able to hold her and kiss her and let her know she's not alone.]
Okay...
[It could be worse, but hopefully their efforts will make things better.
He's glad she doesn't pressure him into answering, for he's struggling with the distracting ache that's welling up within himself, leading his mind to wander as his gaze goes from her eyes to her lips to her throat. Something about the way she swallows is alluring... More than he's ever noticed before. Why is that...?]
But they were really nice and grateful that we saved them! It was a thank you gift.
[He watches as she does her thing, though his brows raise as she uses the ocular to read the packaging. He always forgets about the numerous features in their heads.
Though once she states that, he stares, dumbfounded and stunned, unable to believe his ears for a moment.]
Huh? [.....................................] W..What with...?
💗💗💗
this "thank you gift", however, was a trap. ]
I have some guesses! [ she scowls at the package in her hands, irritated again. who is out there DRUGGING INNOCENT PEOPLE?! after the efforts she was trying to go through to make sure nothing was tested on the unprepared masses - AAARGH. ]
I should have some antidote left over back at the lab. [ she takes yato's hand and starts dragging him towards the medbay. ] At least, you're acting relatively normal... maybe it was only a small concentration...
no subject
That, you mean...? [It's the only thing that makes sense, but... he thought it was just a nice present! How could people be so ruel and manipulative?! His eyes start to water at the thought of not being able to trust even the citizenry anymore, especially since they just helped clear up everything in the forest!]
Ah, right-- That's probably a good idea... [He smiles a bit, tears drying up as she takes his hand. It's more than enough to simply be by her whatever weird things might happen. Though his nose twitches as they walk and he glances at her.] ...y'know, you smell really nice today, Hiyori...
[That and he's feeling hungry again. Aching for something. Craving like he hasn't felt since discovering he was made part human and had to eat to not pass out.]
no subject
yato, sometimes people just SUCK. while hiyori believes in the good of mankind, she is no idiot. there are some real assholes out there.
not all people are bad. he can still believe in others. she huffs as she pulls yato along down hallways. she's on a mission and the faster they get there the - ]
Huh? [ nevermind, she's slowing down to throw him a confused look. how the turntables. now she is the one that SmELLs NiCE. ]
What do I smell like?
no subject
He's slowly learning that, yeah... He knows people can be jerks, but... he wants to believe! To have faith in the goodness of humanity!
He hurries along with her, though from his uneven steps it's clear he's somewhat distracted. His eyes never leave her, and seem to be focusing instead on her lips and neck.]
You smell... coppery. Delicious. [He slows to a stop in the middle of the hallway, tugging gently at her hand to encourage her to come closer so that he can get her in a hug. From there he buries his face in the crook of her neck with a heavy sigh, nosing at her skin.] Hiyori... I'm hungry...
no subject
coppery is not what came to mind when yato said she smells good. like flowers, maybe? something sweet? maybe like breakfast she made this morning? some oatmeal with cut up fruit inside.
yato's stronger than her when he really wants, no matter how gentle, so she's hauled to a stop and drawn towards him. it's not like she minds a hug but she's baffled by it, lifting and putting her arms around him.
the heavy sigh and nosing at her skin on the other hand? mentioning being hungry.
ah. ]
A - ah. [ at once, her face and something in her belly warms. well. even if it's not the BEST time, she supposes she'll
help him out. supply him, as it were. wife's duty or something (this is not a wife's duty) ]
Okay. Just let me grab some things from the lab and we can go back to the room. I'll help you.

There's certainly other scents mixed in with the copper smell - the floral shampoo she uses, the fruity tang of breakfast, her soap - but they all pale in comparison to whatever that strong tang is. It's...
blood?
He'd know it anywhere, but why can he smell it now? It's so strange that it's almost frightening. That's part of the reason he wants to hold her, to get reassurances that he's not on the battlefield, surrounded by corpses of his own making.
And she just smells so nice... He can't help repeatedly licking his lips, like a cat who's hungry for treats. Pulling back, he peers into her eyes again, tongue flicking over his teeth and lips and revealing a glint of pointed canines.]
It's not that... I mean, I do want you, but I need something else more... I just-- I don't--
[His brows furrow in frustration as he struggles to identify what it is he needs so badly. (This certainly isn't a wife's duty...) But it might be a trusted loved one's. For the longer he seems to stumble over his words, the harder his breathing gets, until he's clutching at his chest and sweating.]
Hiyori... Y-You were right... Something-- Something's wrong...
no subject
there just one curious thing. yato's teeth have always looked just a little sharper than normal at the canine. when he was feeling particularly mischievous or had something up his sleeve, his grins would reveal them.
how quickly he got her going in just that moment dies out in her gut and her blood goes cold as she watches him visibly struggle, breathing harder. ]
Yato...? [ now fully worried, now she puts a hand at his back before checking his pulse at his throat. his heart is racing and his skin is perspiring.
something is very wrong so hiyori takes action. ]
Come on. We're going to the medbay.
[ she puts one of his arms around her shoulders and puts hers around his waist, all but hauling him down the hallway just in case his body decides to give out on him. ]
Yato. Deep, even breaths. In through the nose, out through mouth. Like me.
[ she inhales deep through her nose, and out through her mouth. never stopping their forward movement. this could be anything after knowing he's drugged. panic attack seems the most likely. the weird thing is his comment about smelling good. about needing something else. a flash of sharp canines.
with hiyori all but carrying him along, they reach the medbay. she ignores most of the personnel there (if there are any) to do things on her own. finding an empty cot, she puts him there and eases him to sit down. there, she smile as best as she can. things will be okay. ]
Alright. Eyes on me. [ she cups his cheeks, making sure he's focusing on her. IS THAT GOOD OR BAD ] Don't focus on the smell. Think about other things. What do you see? What can you touch?
[ one of the staff comes over and hiyori hurriedly requests water before turning back to yato. ]

The thought of doing that so disturbs him that he visibly recoils from her, except he's losing strength by the moment and can't go far. Whatever he's ingested is finally kicking in and leaving him wanting to kick himself for being so gullible, but he hasn't the attention for it. All thoughts are on how his mouth aches and he feels so very hungry.
At her insistence that they seek a medical setting, he nods jerkily, forcing his legs to follow along as best he can. She's doing much of the work though as his limbs have become leaden and his feet drag.]
Nose... mouth... Nose... mouth...
[That's all he can mutter as he works to follow her instructions while they walk, though the look of relief is obvious on his expression once he's able to sit down. Even with whatever's going on with him, his eyes, now clouded and unfocused, never leave her, the only steady part on him. He's a good patient. A good boy...]
S..Smells... [Ugh, no, not the smell. He's not supposed to think about that. What, then...?] You... Your neck... Your skin....
[Once she turns back towards him, he reaches a shaky hand out to touch her jugular, pressing just hard enough to feel her pulse.]
Hiyori, I-- I need-- [He licks his lips, revealing longer fangs than he's ever had before, to the point that even when he closes his lips they peek out.] Please... So thirsty...

her neck?
her skin?
she leans back, confused, and then goes very very still at the touch to her throat. not out of fear but out of a growing realization. her throat moves with how hard she swallows.
those teeth slam it home and her gut lurches. ]
I'm... water is on the way. [ it's not that type of thirsty, either. she shuffles in front of him, hiding his appearance from others protectively even as her face goes pale and her eyes widen. ]
Yato... [ quiet, a whisper. a waver in her voice. brasov.
brasov.
brasov.
no. no. whatever fear she has of that place won't control her. yato needs her. she's gripping his arms hard, hiyori realizes belatedly. ]
Fight it. [ is she telling herself? him? the staff member reappears with the water and she pries a hand off of him to take it with a thank you. ]
Here. Water. It could help a little until I figure out... what to do...
no subject
As her throat bobs, so too does his, for he swallows eagerly, struggling against the rising hunger and thirst that only grows more intense by the moment.
He doesn't even make the connection between his changes and Brasov, being too out of it to think clearly. Still, he's a good boy and simply nods in understanding, panting hard.]
Hiyori, I...
[There's so much he wants to say, yet it gets lost in the heated haze blurring his mind and making him sweat. Once presented with the water, he sips at it, but makes a face that of revulsion as his system balks at the substance.]
's no good... I can't-- I need... something else... Please...
[He begs ever more desperately as his body sways and he starts to tip over onto the cot, landing with a soft thud yet never letting go of her arms.]

water is pretty useless then. she takes it from him, setting it back on a side table and putting her hands back on his shoulders. face crumpling at his begging, she bites her lip and chews at them.
she knows what he needs and she thinks it over. just how far is she willing to go for yato? she doesn't get to figure it out - yato is tipping over. ]
Yato! [ she bends down, tapping his cheek with her fingers lightly, then checking his forehead temp. ]
Stay with me. Hey. Shit. [ she doesn't curse often but it's all too appropriate. a quick look around tells her nothing can be done here so she rolls him onto his back, puts one arm beneath his knees and the other around his back and lifts with a grunt. ]
There should be a closet or supply room or... [ hiyori mutters to herself, bridal carrying yato out of the exam area and back into the hall. ]

Once the water leaves his hand, his arm drops like a lead weight, hanging limply by his side. He's losing strength fast, finding everything to be such a chore... He doesn't like this feeling; it's too much like when he gets attacked by ayakashi and almost succumbed to blight, although less painful.
He hears her call his name, but it sounds so far away, like she's shouting from across a chasm. Mentally, he reaches for her, but it doesn't transfer to his body, which remains limp.]
Hiyori... [All he can muster before she's picking him up, arms dangling like a rag doll's as they leave in search of a more secluded place. There's one area nearby which should be idea: the cot storage area. It's packed but has enough room to spread one out should they need it - which they desperately do given Yato's inability to even remain upright right now.]

yato is like a dead weight in her arms. as much as she works out, her strength comes in bursts of kicks and punches. in throwing someone in a monkey toss move or something. still, she's determined as fuck.
and carrying yato with pure willpower to that cot storage area. somehow, by holding some of his weight with her knee, she gets the door open and stumbles them inside, over to the nearest cot so she can collapse on top of him with a gasp.
made it.
after that, she's reaching with trembling fingers to her shirt, lifting it up and off of her so nothing stains it. maybe overkill but she's prepared if he... spills. because she's over him, steeling herself, taking deep breaths through her nose. with gentle fingers, she takes his chin and turns his face upward toward her. ]
You... you need blood, right? That's what it is.
[ like a vampire. ]
... Take it. Take mine.

Thankfully he's retained consciousness, even if it's hazy and leads to him murmuring her name over and over again and not much else. She's so strong, so amazing... He really doesn't deserve her, and yet he'll forever be grateful to have her, especially in times of need like this, where there's few he would trust.
Once laid out with her atop him, he manages to get a hand up to rest on her head, the only gesture of thanks he can accomplish right now. Though his hand easily slide from her when she moves. He doesn't have the strength to even keep it up.
Through half-lidded eyes he watches her strip off her shirt, being so ill that he doesn't even blush at the sight. Only does his pupils narrow at the sight of flesh as his craving spikes and he attempts to sit up, only to fall back when he hasn't the strength for it. At her question, he nods: he finally understands what the craving is now that she's put it into words. When she tilts his face, his lips part, revealing the now elongated fangs with ease.]
Hiyori... Thank you...
[He manages that much, he has to, because he knows that this must be terrifying for her, an awful reminder of the nightmare she had to endure.
That's why as he noses at her neck, he murmurs a constant stream of "I love you"s before ever so gently pricking her skin. At first it's barely enough to pierce it, but the scent and tang of copper on his tongue sends his thirst and hunger over the edge and he finds himself biting down harder, until his teeth have embedded themselves in her flesh so that the blood flows more freely, allowing him to suck greedily at her with wanton moans of relief.]

it is. it's terrifying. reliving the nightmare that brasov was, and still is, to her. the bloodletting. the screams of pain. never knowing if she would get out, if they would all be stuck there forever.
she puts that all to the side. divides it from this moment tidily. she'll suffer over her trauma later when yato isn't in agony.
at first, it's like usual. like their moments in private, of intimacy and an liberated passion and fervor. even his "I love you"s remind her of those times. the prick at her skin is even okay. not bad even. he's bitten her before, and she's bitten him in the heat of the moment.
numerous. times. as human and ayakashi both.
but when he bites down hard, to break the skin - she chokes on a noise. half of it gets out. ] Hnghk...!
[ before she covers her mouth with her palm. tears build in her eyes but she squeezes them shut. there's pain. nothing but that. sharp stings that she bunches her fist up for next to his head. whimpers she tries to keep quiet behind her teeth and hand. yato's moan sounds more vigorous than any other sound he's made.
good... that's good...
now, if only her limbs weren't also starting to go weak. first, at the tips of her fingers. ]

But more than that, he never would've taken those cigarettes if he'd known what it would mean putting Hiyori through again. That it would force him to treat her like a meal, invoking those horrible, wretched nightmares all over again.
Yet he's still too weak to apologize properly yet. He needs more. More.
In the depths of his mind he tries hard to treat her right, to love her throughout this, even pressing a kiss to the spot before going for it. Anything to help make this a little easier.
Not that it can be once he has to really go for it, canines digging into her flesh and gliding past it into her body. He hears her strangled cry and almost pulls away but his reason for not doing so is two-fold: one, he doesn't want to hurt her any more than he already has, and two: he's so very, very hungry.]
Ngh... Ahh... Hah--
[The noises he makes are downright lewd, much like when they make love, except this time he's devouring her blood instead of simply ravishing her body. Yet as he sucks down the fluid, his strength gradually begins to return, slowly at first, until he has the ability to wrap his arms around her and hold her close in a tender embrace.
Yet he keeps on sucking, feasting on her blood with abandon, struggling to stop himself with how much he himself seems to have apparently lost in the transformation. Idly, his hands rub over her back, trying to reassure her that he's doing better and that she's okay, that's she's safe with him.
Or as safe as can be given how he doesn't quite realize how bad off she now is.]
