KAIJU FIGHT #10
KAIJU FIGHT #10
ā¶ 001. FIND THE HIVE.
Reports of mysterious drumming deep in the forest seem promising. With the assistance of local scouts, they also find a clear path of destruction marked by dead plants and fallen insect kaiju. After collecting enough data, LILITH Mexico calls back the Outsiders and their scouts to regroup and recover for what they believe to be the final battle.
Based on their understanding of the region, the clues they've found, and Rift readings, they suspect a human-threat level kaiju is at the location of a known ancient temple. The reason they called the Outsiders back, however, is because it seems like not just one but two of these kaiju might be there. They want the Outsiders to recoup their strength before they head out.
Additionally, they believe one of the kaiju is one they have records of. A long time ago, during the first kaiju attacks, a plant-like kaiju they called "Nephenthipula" appeared and destroyed many cities which resulted in them becoming swallowed up by the expanding jungle. Over time, it simply went dormant and the forest became what it is today. They don't know why it suddenly returned but they suspect it might have something to do with the forest.
Before the teams are sent out, Dr. Flores approaches. Thanks to the hard work and research the Outsiders have been able to do, a basic antidote has been created that should be effective in helping to deal with most of the symptoms that theyāve been experiencing. Thereās a very limited amount, however, and he recommends that the Outsiders are cautious: once itās gone, there wonāt be any more until the kaiju is dealt with.
The other downside? Itās not completely refined, so some Outsiders might continue to face side effects. He has more good news to offset this, though: Based on toxicology reports and additional reports about abandoned hives and dead colonies, he suspects the second kaiju might be a wasp of some sort.
Both the wasp kaiju and the Nephenthipula are located deep within the jungle, further even than most outsiders have dared to travel. Interestingly, based on the coordinates they have received so far... they both seem to be in the same vicinity. Before being sent out they will be warned to prepare for a potential double battle.

ā¶ 002. OPERATION: NEPHENTHIPULA
The trip to the designated coordinate is fraught with danger. The forest seems to close in on itself, like it is protecting whatever it is that the Outsiders are trying to reach. The vines almost seem to take on a life of their own, the deeper into the jungle they travel. Forest creatures will attack outsiders, divebombing and trying to stop them when they take breaks from the trek deeper into the jungle. The deadly plants will become more aggressive, and the deeper Outsiders go⦠the quieter it gets.
The animals stop attacking. The vines almost seem half-hearted as they move deeper. They are thinner and weaker. Many are cut or rotted. Theyāve been chewed through and though they still try to stop the outsiders, it is more like stopping the inevitable. As Outsiders breach the treeline, theyāll come into a clearing, where not only the Nephenthipula resides, rising from the forest like a raging colossus, but it is focused on a ruin. On trying to destroy it, its vines try to slap down stone towers, and strangle out parts of the ruin, but on the Outsiders' arrival, its focus is now fully shifted to focus on the new arrivals. Now is your chance, but Outsiders will find that they have to split up, and while some stay and fight the Nephenthipula; intel says that the Vescidae is inside the ruins but there is no clear way in.
Outsiders will quickly realize the Nephenthipula is not alone. In response to the plant kaiju, the entire forest seems to come to its aid. Vines will spread across the battlefield, attempting to tangle and strangle the Outsiders. Different vines manifest thorns, carnivorous flowers, and razor leaves to deter them even more.
Local kaiju also join in. Mutated jaguars, monkeys, snakes, and iguanas appear to further hinder their advances. From above, mutated butterflies, hummingbirds, and beetles rain pollen dosed with Rift energy. On top of the usual Rift sickness, this one seems to have an additional effect as well. The longer Outsiders are exposed to it, the more reluctant they are to attack the plant life and animal kaiju. They will feel a bond with the forest and become aggressive towards Outsiders causing harm.
The forest is their ally. They have to protect the forest at all costs. If that means turning against their friends then so be it. As long as Outsiders ally with the forest, they will find that they can call on it to assist them in limited capacity. They can use vines to block attacks and command some of the mutated kaiju to attack. Fortunately, Dr. Flores' antidote uses resources from the forest itself to counter some of these effects.

ā¶ 003. INTO THE HIVE.
Observant Outsiders may notice an entrance into the temple. They will have to find a way up the steps, over living and dead vines. Occasionally the vines cover the entrance so Outsiders will have to destroy them again and again to enter.
With this being the only entrance and the vines controlling how many can enter at a time, it is essentially a bottleneck. Those who enter first will have to be ready to respond quickly because sentry wasps the size of housecats will charge at them. They are small, fast, and aggressive but weak. Their stings are incredibly painful to victims but fatal to the wasps which die shortly after. However, after being stung, the Outsider may notice they are attacked more frequently, as if they have been specifically marked.
Eventually, the sentry drones die or retreat, granting them peace. The inside of the temple is covered in a paper-mache like material. Instead of the regular comb shaped pattern one might expect, the combs are shaped like stars. From deep inside the temple, they will hear a steady drumming sound. Following the drumming sound will lead them to even more sentry drones as well as larger soldier drones that are far more aggressive.
They will have to navigate the catacombs of the temple to find and kill the queen. Surprisingly, characters that have been stung will instinctively know which direction they need to go in and will feel drawn to its location. They will also be able to telepathically communicate with others who have been stung or significantly affected by the hive's rift energy.
They will encounter more sentry drones as well as larger solder drones that are far more aggressive. They will also find comb filled with a thick, sweet, milky colored substance and larvae in the center. Characters affected by the hivemind will know this is a precious, nutrient rich resource. Maybe it might be worth collecting?

ā¶ 004. OPERATION: VESCIDAE
The drumming sound becomes practically deafening and the Outsiders will find themselves in a great, open hall. The walls are carved with designs all the way up to the ceiling which is filled with stars. In the center of the hall they will see the Queen Vescidae. Her wings beat in a steady, drumming sound that echoes off the walls as she takes to the air and attacks.
As she attacks, drones will fly down from the ceiling to her aid. The venom from their stings is very potent and fast acting. At first, it clears the mind of their victims but some Outsiders react to this differently. Some Outsiders become incredibly calm and relaxed, as if all of their concernsā including the battleā are unimportant to them. Others will find that their new clarity makes it easier for them to focus, making them react to attacks faster and giving them an energy boost. For those who are particularly unlucky, however, the venom seems to wipe their minds completely, making them incredibly susceptible to the hypnotic beating of the Queen Vescidae's wings.
Certain Outsiders may suddenly find themselves turning on their friends as they become loyal to the hive. Their priority will become protecting the queen. By essentially becoming new drones, they become a part of the hive's hierarchy and can order lesser drones to assist them. Outsiders that still have Dr. Flores' antidote can protect themselves and potentially save some of their friends.
In a closed space, the battle is especially chaotic and it only gets worse when parts of the temple-hive begin to crumble and collapse. Vines pierce through the walls and outside attacks make the entire hive tremble. Letting in light and fresh air from outside which provides some relief. Shinn is able to land a critical attack on the Vescidae which stuns it. It staggers in the air disoriented and this allows the Outsiders to attack more easily. Shoto sets it on fire and it frantically begins to fly into the walls of the hive, causing more of it to collapse. Eventually, a reckless attack from Geto brings it down once and for all, putting an end to it.
The Vescidae smolders as parts of the hive and temple collapse around it. As parts of the ceiling collapse, they can see the traditional star designs up close. At the center of each star is a drawing of a striped insect.

ā¶ 005. AFTERMATH.
Outside the hive, the battlefield and temple are swallowed up by vines and plantlife. In all of the chaos, it is impossible to tell where the Nephenthipula stops and where the Nephenthipula begins. They finally get a break when Ereshkigal's spears do massive damage, severing many of the Nephenthipula's vines. This makes it easier for Outsiders to attack closer or allows them to focus on holding back the forest and lesser kaiju. Weakened by everyone's efforts, the Nephenthipula eventually grows tired which allows Raphael to find an opening. The kaiju falls to the ground and begins to wither. As it turns to dust, a voice whispers, "How could you all do this to us and this planet?"
With its most powerful fighter defeated, the forest has taken a major blow. It still tries to defend itself but all of its attacks are much weaker. It does not stop until the hive temple begins to crumble and the beating sound from within comes to a stop. Suddenly, everything goes silent as the vines still and the lesser kaiju stop to observe.
Finally, the forest breathes. The vines recede and the lesser kaiju return to the jungle, leaving the Outsiders alone.
With the kaiju dealt with, itās like a heavy weight has been lifted from the city, and the air itself feels less oppressive. Many of the issues that Outsiders had been dealing with seem to settle, the way of nature restored. Itās not all perfect, and there are still some lingering effects of pollen and other issues, but things seem to be better, to say the least. The Rift energy that had plagued the landscape settles and, over time, begins to recede.
One of the more lingering effects is the sickness affecting the civilians. Dr. Flores, using the research materials that Outsiders had returned to base, has begun to create a cure for the strain. Thereās a catch: thereās no one to test it on except the Outsiders, so he reluctantly asks for their aid in seeing how effective it is. At first, it doesnāt seem to work too successfully, so Dr. Flores requests the venom of the Vescidae and the royal honey-like substance in order to supplement the cure, and tasks Outsiders with bringing samples of the venom back to base. Once this is added, it works far better.
There are various side effects as the cure is tested. The happier of Outsiders might find themselves prone to bursts of anger and irritation, while the more bitter team members could find themselves experiencing bouts of ecstasy and euphoria. As night falls, some might find themselves irrationally afraid of the dark and struggling with a chronic case of insomnia, which nothing seems to relieve. Thanks to the kaiju venom, there are still lingering effects from previous ventures into the jungle⦠The same violence and extreme emotions from before (yes, those too).
In addition, in the city there is another kind of testing, the kaiju left more than just venom behind, after all. Some vendors, perfumers, and even bars and smoke shops are making use of the remaining pollen, and Outsiders might find themselves asked to try a free sample, or get sprayed with a random perfume without their asking. Surely itās fine! You might find yourself subjected to some of the pollen effects, like the increased hunger (of any kind) so you might want to go satiate those munchies, pronto!
Once the cure has been tested appropriately, Dr. Flores begins to make the rounds on the locals, dealing with the most sick first. The cure is also handed out to the Outsiders, so they can do their part. Dr. Flores congratulates the Outsiders on their success, and seems genuinely pleased - and proud? - of the work theyāve put in. Whatās that about blood sacrificesā¦? He doesnāt want to hear about any of that. Just hand over any remaining insects, please, and get ready for a return to home.

he cried after losing to midoriya the first time shattered his pride and reality hard. he cried after stuffing his guilt-ridden break down over all might's end for days. he cried in the agonizing moments leading up to his own death... why would he ever want denji to bear witness to those things?]
Haa?! [he's knocked out of his thoughts by a random ass question. lips snarl up in a confused expression splattered across his face. head turned, eyes mismatched wide, staring at denji like he had a second head. seriously? an answer's trundled out of his lover's sharp-toothed mouth before he can say anything. goes from "n/a/" to "yes" to "maybe" to "none of the above" and bakugo's expression flattens. idiot. he summarily drops his free hand onto his boyfriend's balls. yeah, not a haymaker from heaven, but definitely enough to jolt him for asking something so ridiculous.]
If that old hag didn't like you, she can fuck off! [he's 100% convinced his mom and dad would like denji. maybe concerned if they knew more about the other boy's past, but not even bakugo knows much about his boyfriend's past. if the half-devil meant actually physically punch his mom in the face for him... uh, no. he prefers being a living boyfriend. denji isn't getting any flack for mapping out the cityscape of his abdominal muscles. even a lazy flex to crunch them more and give him even firmer definitions to play his fingers over.]
What do you think should've made me cry? [it's... a strange question, one he asks with a weight he can't entirely describe. sounds like a sick sort of query about his boyfriend's belief in how he should react or what emotions he should express. things bakugou's always flared up at when anyone thinks they can or should direct his life. yet, he's asking...]

denjiās body snapped with a sudden jolt, the blow landing square against his balls, and that almost made him scream loud enough to wake everyone. it wasnāt harsh, nothing that would break such delicate fellas, yet his nerves lit up like it had been a full strike. did he not tell bakugou about getting assaulted by stupid katana man and yoru?! .... oh wait. why would he ever tell his boyfriend about something so embarrassing? fuck that. his breath caught, chest locking up as he instinctively doubled forward; a sharp inhale rattled through his throat, his muscles tightening in defense before his body remembered there was no real threat here. ] That was a very villainous move! And, hey ... don't call your mother an old hag. [ despite that, denji has no doubt bakugou loves his parents, and they love him even more. his boyfriend is just being as spicy as always. he gets a 10/10 for that answer, though.
denjiās hand stilled where it had been lazily tracing under his lover's shirt, the gentle rhythm cut short when that question dropped. his fingers curled against his palm, then held still, unsure whether to move closer or pull away. yeah, he didn't see this one coming. denji is a bit skeptical he can get away with a good response or without, unintentionally, upsetting the other boy, but he'd always been honest. he's not gonna change that just to avoid a tough situation. ] I don't know ... [ which might be ā somewhat sad, in a way. the fact that he didn't know that side of the boy he loves. not even the underworld incident was deemed 'traumatic' enough to shake the bold hero. while it surely got to him, and bakugou is probably carrying a lot of guilt afterward, but he couldn't imagine him falling apart over it. it doesn't dismiss the fact a lot of fucked up shit happened, but ... yeah, not gonna dig through it tonight. he left that door wide open, and whenever bakugou is ready, they'll talk. ] Ah ... I'm not saying this is a bad thing. You know what's best for you. People cope differently. It's not like crying makes me feel any better. I just rather be a crybaby over entertaining anger ...
[ which ... every-fucking-one in his world should be thankful for. someone with that power shouldn't be functioning by hate and revenge. ]

probably hard to believe with a hand to the balls, and not in the good way. that's what you get for asking a dumb question like that out of nowhere, dammit! no, denji did not tell him about his past history with nut shots. denji hasn't told bakugou a lot about his life, beyond happy memories with power and aki. even the warning about makima had been more "she's a bad woman" and little detail. he never asked, only trusted his boyfriend on it. bakugou smartly moves his hand to denji's thigh rather than leave it, not wanting him to smack it or grab the offending item off his balls. it's kinda funny... but he holds anything more than a soft exhale in.]
I've been around villains. [he knows. as for his mom, he only clicks his tongue in annoyance but doesn't add more. denji's right about the relationship between the bakugou family. love, certainly, yet very explosive between two of them.
he turns his head back on the pillow, eyes going up to the eaves above them. no more stroking under his shirt, only a quiet fist resting on his stomach. maybe it is a sucker punch question, but denji sounded like he was disappointed bakugou hadn't cried in front of him. silly assumption. after what they'd been through together, maybe he should've. a few times. but kept it in. not wanting to appear weak in front of the man he loved. they had some talks about that before. enough to where bakugou's more open with his struggles. tonight being a prime example, even if the other boy had to initially pry it from him. stubbornness tends to work well with the blonde, despite being stubborn as fuck himself.]
I see. [he's not surprised by the answer. if there even is a proper answer. to denji's balm, bakugou was too shaken by what happened in the underworld to even have the mindset to cry. struck numb and feelingless, only focused on making sure everyone, including his boyfriend, was out, before exhaustion finally gave way. rousing from it only gave birth to humiliated rage and guilt. something he still has to one day discuss with the half-devil. he hasn't forgotten the promise.] Maybe. It's not like I've seen you cry a lot. [when he returned from his homeworld at the start of the year, denji was a wreck.] Sappy movies don't count.

it started with that. feeling safe. feeling seen and heard. what followed is attraction. he thought, at first, it was mere curiosity. something that might die off in time, but it didn't. it persisted until he couldn't really ignore it anymore. did he ever think such a golden boy like katsuki would humor someone so damaged and filthy? he seriously didn't think so, not that it stopped him from going in with a confession. if he said 'no', denji will find some solace in being brave enough to give it a try. and now, months later, he still believes that was the best thing he ever did in his entire miserable life. bakugou is the best thing that ever happened to him. he didn't care if he's not a romantic sap, or wouldn't shower him with red petals on a random mondayā he'd happily carry that part on his own and love every second of it. what denji needs is to feel secure. the rest? they can work through it, compromise, adapt, and grow.
he'll keep a mental note to shield his dick and balls the next time he asks a dumb question, he's still a bit fidgey even when the hand moved to settle on his thigh next. is he gonna pinch his skin there? his muscles are stiff for a bit before easing down. okay, danger gone. he lets out a soft sigh, cheeks warming up a bit. ] ... I know. [ ah, which reminds him of what he'd seen a while back. perhaps he didn't notice bakugou's tears back then, in his memory before dying, as denji was more stressed over his brutal injuries, the fading heartbeats, and traumatic sequences instead. denji shakes it off, unwilling to think about it right now. the mild tension held, knuckles faintly rigid, skin stretched with restraint. then, slowly, the grip unraveled. one finger loosened, then another, until the curve of his hand softened into something tender. his fingertips brushed over warm skin, tracing upward to the center of his lover's chest, still hidden under the thin fabric of his shirt. a quiet glide of his touch spoke of calm that only deepened with every stroke, every breath drawn from the space between them.
he shifts his gaze, eyeing the screen again and back to the movie, but his mind is focused on their conversation. that was an interesting question, though. ] I hope I didn't make you feel like you don't have emotions or something? I didn't mean that ...

he can't entirely predict the other man, find himself questioning and curious over his history and nature. still wanting to help denji become the hero the half-devil's struggling with holding onto. but denji gives him a lot too. someone he can rely on, someone he can relax with, someone who challenges his ideas and thoughts at times, and makes him slow down to not take things for granted. even if his spirit is bedraggled and his heart is wounded and struggling, bakugo fell for him, wreck and all. maybe he can't save him, maybe he can't heal him, but he can stay beside him and give him "the best" he can. because there's someone in there he treasures. even if denji has a hard time seeing or believing it sometimes.
come on, babe. you've seen katsuki bite the head off someone looking at him wrong and blow up people who argued with him! should've known asking a stupid question out of the blue was going to get some kind of loud response. physical or audible or otherwise. luckily for denji, no pinching. only slow motions of his fingers, massaging circles on his boyfriend's thigh. sliding to the inside, then back to the top, then the outside, lazily wandering around for no reason other than to relax and touch. he'll treat his balls to a much better round of attention later.
if denji can remember those last moments, tears were present. his shattered pride and desperate determination mingled with agonizing physical pain and his own quirk accidentally turning traitor inside his own body. he didn't even realize he was crying. far too damaged and tunnel minded in his final light to know.
fingers slowly trail across his stomach, lifting beneath his shirt towards his diaphragm's curve. their gentle touch and warmth tactile sensations he's long-since acquainted with comfort and denji. fine, relaxing, calm, until their brushed the lowest of his jagged scar and demarcation line before crossing into his chest's explosive crater. instinct and sensation suck his breath in, a momentary freeze coating his lungs, before everything warms up again and his air seeps out once more. unfortunately his body has never decided how to regulate his wound's scar. always sensitive to the touch, sometimes a frozen hand around his lungs, sometimes a searing path along his skin, sometimes pain enough to send him panting for breath, sometimes pleasure enough to make him grind his leaking eyes into the pillow... small touches like these get a momentary reaction, but it passes quickly, denji's touch is always denji's touch.]
What kinda dumbass do you think I am? Tch. Never crossed my mind. [denji knows all too well how bakugo expresses his emotions. he's never once suggested he had none. just... has a hard time expressing the softer sappy ones. he drops his head to the side until it clunks against his boyfriend's shoulder. as irritating as it is (sometimes) to have those six inches between their heights... it makes it easier to lean on denji like this.]

no pinching, sure, but denji is not as relaxed either. as much as he loves to take a hand stroking his thigh by his very attractive boyfriend as a soothing gesture while they enjoy the movie, it's kinda difficult not to think about where he's touching him. he's still a young man. thankfully, bakugou's fingers moved into a safer spot soon after, and he survived this ordeal before an uninvited guest made an appearance. it helps that he's fucking exhausted after that mission, body covered in bruises and heavily drained to start a midnight spicy workout, out in the open too. he closed his eyes for a second, enjoying a rare cool breeze as it brushed over his warm skin. he then felt the weight of bakugou's head on his shoulder, smiling a bit as the soft spikes of his lover's hair tickled his cheek. are you sure it's still six inches, kacchan? it's been over a year, and he's still growing ... ]
Heh, I was just wondering what triggered that question. [ but, they can drop it, if bakugou isn't in the mood to elaborate further. as for the scarsā denji let his fingertips wander slowly, tracing the uneven lines carved into skin. the texture rose beneath his touch, tougher than the rest, ridges where the body had sealed itself shut after breaking open. he lingered on the difference, the way healthy skin softened under the slightest pressure of his fingertips, while the scarred parts stood firm, almost defiant. yet in that stubbornness, there was something fragile too, something that had endured pain but still chose to remain. proof that the body had fought, survived, healed. seeing those wounds at first was terrifying; denji was almost certain he'd never be able to touch them without being haunted by that memory. tonight, instead of flinching away, he felt it was important for him to acknowledge them, to be okay with them ...
finally, he lowers his hand down to bakugou's abdomen again, nothing more than the light brush of his thumb over the hard muscles. they watched as the heroes were introduced into the movie, shining a light on each lead and their powers. it was a nice distraction, even when their minds are elsewhere. not necessarily in a bad spot, not for denji at least. he's merely reflecting on recent events. ] Hmm ... do you think if I held you tight, you'd be able to close your eyes without being scared? I mean, a lot of people are scared of the dark, so they sleep with the light on or with someone next to them ...

he knows where he's touching. toeing a dangerous line between arousal and comfort. is it apology for hitting him in the balls? maybe. denji only had to suck it up long enough to reach bakugou's chest before the action cuts short. his momentary reaction to his scar, fingers twitch and curl in instinctive pause, sliding flat soon after as he relaxes his muscles. no, he can't be sure it's six inches still, especially since bakugou went back home and lost the year he grew in neo tokyo. dammit. this is why he never bothered to measure since he got back! he can tell it's a chunked difference whenever he stands beside his boyfriend. markedly with his chin closer to denji's chest than his shoulder. tch. he has to go up on his toes if he wants to hook his jaw over his collar. a gentle breeze ghosts chill across sweat and shirt fabric, offering relief from the fire burning bright in the pit further out. it'd be a lot better if the autumn weather were here...]
Uh, your comment before it. Duh. [going from would you fight your parents for me to questioning about his seeming lack of emotional venting and crying. weird one-two punch, denji. smooth skin stretches across his scar, pulled taut for twine and suture to reach and sew it shut. jagged edges tangibly different from the skin on either side. a few smaller scars in the center where his sutures had sewn his chest shut and edgeshot emerged. ironic his skin was tougher for the scar tissue, yet more sensitive even so from the skin around it. determined to offer some sort of protection from another injury, but paying for it with strange tenderness.
broken bones run the risk of breaking in the same area again if they're not bolstered by outside material. once broken, never as strong as before if left to its own healing resources. bakugou's still not sure if he completely likes his scars being touched, fondled, loved on... yet he can't say he doesn't like it either. both the physical reaction and the emotional comfort it can bring him and his boyfriend. denji didn't retain his scars after his fusion with pochita. sometimes he wonders if the half-devil misses them. evidence he was once a mortal human boy.]
Not if it's the fucking drug doing it. [he drums his fingers on denji's leg, tired and annoyed, but unable to muster enough strength to be truly furious.] You can try. [see if it works. he's pretty sure he'll find his heart racing and his body tensing up without permission even if denji's wrapped around him... but fuck, at this point, why the hell not?] Gonna make me miss part of the movie though.

fine. that makes sense, even when he didn't anticipate it coming this way, denji is not complaining. it had a touch of vulnerability behind it that was somewhat refreshing to see from his boyfriend, and a part of him wished they could've gone deeper into it. ah, it's his fault for not pushing the other a bit. will he be lucky enough to see that side of him again? he's not sure, yet denji is optimistic this time for some reason. perhaps he is finally picking up on the small steps his boyfriend is making to be more open and show a softer side of himself. he watched a new action scene unfold through the movie, but his attention kept drifting toward the warmth at his right, waiting for an answer to his proposal. heh, bakugou is skeptical if it will work, which made the half-devil quirk a lazy smile. ] You gotta believe it will work! Believe it in your heart. Mind over matter ... or, something. [ here is an attempt for motivation! after a quiet pause, he shifted, shoulders rolling slightly against the softness of the blankets, testing the space between them. his legs bent just enough to help him turn, his body curling sideways until he faced the other boy. the blankets crinkled beneath the movement, the cool night air brushing against the side of him left uncovered. ] You can still watch the movie!
[ one arm shifted, slipping around the narrowest part of bakugouās waist, palm spreading over the heat that lingered under the thin layer of his shirt. the other arm followed, curling across a shoulder and hooking behind it, his hand pressing firm into the ridges of muscle there. he pulled with both at once, tightening until bakugou was flush against him, every inch lined up. their legs brushed as denji eased one forward, his knee nestling against bakugouās thigh, locking the closeness in place. the faint rasp of fabric whispered in the quiet, and under it came the deeper sensation of body heat pushing through, warming him more than the blanket ever could. the occasional breeze is a blessing.
he lowered his head, forehead resting lightly against bakugouās, noses almost brushing. denjiās arms shifted once, just enough to squeeze a bit, his chest expanding and settling again with a steady rise and fall pressed directly into his lover's. in that position ā he felt more at home. the world around him dulled down to mere sensations; a safe cocoon built of warmth and familiarity, the weight of another body to remind the hero he's not alone in this. for a brief second, denji pulled his head back just enough so he could watch the flickering light from the movie painting faint shadows over bakugou's features, inwardly deciding this is a better view than whatever is going on the screen. his expression softens, head dropping against his side of the pillow. there is enough space for bakugou to watch as the heroes started to kick ass and protect the civilians. perhaps it's better that he allows the sleep to come naturally to him instead of forcing it. ] A couple of hours had passed since you had the drug, right? Maybe it's slowly wearing off ...

kind of hard to pay attention to the movie when denji's working out theories on whether bakugou can get to sleep. he's well past his usual bedtime. though the hero can push himself through 24 hrs without sleep easily, he chafes under breaking his usual schedule. being barred from sleep by something as stupid as fearing the dark is ridiculous! denji suggesting this could work... ugh.] I'm not going to sleep on a fucking wish! [he's already tried mind over matter! rattled off multiplication tables, ran over training scenarios, recited drumming patterns, nothing worked! darkness came and his eyes snapped open every fucking time! bakugou clicks his tongue as he shifts, rolling onto his side and tugging himself away from denji enough the other man has space to do whatever he's doing in their sprawling blanket nest.] I can't watch it when the screen's on my face, dammit!
[did you forget you're projecting the movie from your eye denji?! facing bakugou means he's got the movie plastered all over his visage. and his boyfriend's got that creepy-as-fuck look going on with one eye glowing like a damn killer machine. kinda cool too... bakugou lifts his hips when denji cups his waist, smooth skin drifting beneath his touch as nerves rippled up details of his strong, warm hand taking hold. captured in another arm's embrace about his shoulder, leaving him wrapped in both and drawing forward until he's bunching into his boyfriend's chest. he feels his ripcord nudging its outline along his arm. a knee invades between his own and he captures it with an instinctive hook and grip of his limbs, one bare ankle resting behind denji's achilles' tendon. damn... and now he's starting to think about all the times they ended up grinding together. just like this. with far less clothes, and a few more body parts hotter and harder... cuddled up and pulled close, foreheads melded, the movie forgotten.
he drops his head on the pillow, one arm crooked over it to stay out of the heat, his other dove beneath the sheets to find and rest purchase on denji's waist. within this safe warm tangle of limbs and protective closeness of his boyfriend's body, he should be able to get to sleep. should be able to banish darkness' fear. close his eyes and let slumber drape along his mind its peaceful quiet... yeah, not happening. even closing his eyes halfway raises his hackles.] Fucking drug. Don't stay up just cause I can't sleep, Denji.
[he leans in closer, heedless of anyone coming by and seeing them in such an intimate yarn.]

but it's not enough.
the sigh that slipped out of denji isn't out of disappointment, just mere acceptance. perhaps he's asking for too much and putting harsh expectations on the other, which is unfair. they tried, it didn't work, back to the original plan. ] Fine. I'll sleep when I get tired. Deal? [ his eyes lingered, drinking in every detail of the otherās expression under the dim glow of the night and dismissing the movie for a bit. instead, his hand lifted slow, fingers finding their way into bakugouās hair. the strands slid through his touch, wild and soft at the same time, combing through them in a silent reassurance. this sucks, but they will get over it. when his hand slipped lower, fingertips traced the edge of a cheekbone, feeling the faint heat of his skin. denjiās lashes lowered as he memorized the shape beneath his touch, before brushing his thumb gently along the curve of bakugouās cheek. his hand drifted further down, stopping at the corner of his lover's lips. the softness there relaxed him in its intimacy, a delicate reminder of how they felt against his own. he let his fingers hover in the memory of such ardor, like he didnāt dare press too hard, savoring the simplicity of knowing they were here, together.
and, of course, he wouldn't be acting like himself if he didn't go in for the kiss. a tired one, a sleepy squish of their lips together that somehow had a little more heat to it. the type that had a bit of a kick with a 'muwah' at the end of it. playful as it may be, sleepy smooches has to be on denji's top 5 kinks. imagine passing out while getting smothered with luscious lips, ignoring waking up with a boner in the middle of the night, it's still one of the best ways to pass out when you have a lover. heh, but he's not fucking sleeping! a promise is a promise.
finally, he turns his head a bit, playing the movie as the screen is directed within their view. ] Promise to sleep when I'm tired! [ lier. ] Only a few hours to go until sunrise anyway. We can do this! Team ... hmm, maybe we should have a name for our team? Boom chainsaws?

denji's sigh is far quieter than bakugou's rousing snarl. a surly rage threatening to throw blankets away and turn this entire stupid place into a smoldering minefield builds up in his chest, only barely kept restrained by strong warm hands resting on his shoulders and waist. leaving him head dropped and face mushed on his pillow.] Fine. [he can't sleep. it's only gonna make him feel worse if denji gets shit sleep for his sake. he knows it's not out of pity, his boyfriend wants to keep him company through this stupid trial. as much as the hero wants to make sure denji's well-rested... he'll compromise on not growling at him in exchange for the half-devil sleeping when he gets tired. fingers caress into his hair, earning a slow rumble in bakugo's throat, half comforted, half irked. at least it's only for a single night. he tilts his head into a trailing fingertip, leaving faint tingle sensations on his cheek. all the time he needs to gaze into denji's face, his lidded earthy eyes dusted by sandy bangs. only takes two seconds of his thumb passing bakugou's lips before he abruptly captures it between his teeth. doesn't bother closing his lips or moving his tongue. nah, gonna lie here and hold it for no fucking reason other than he can.
at least until denji leaned in for a kiss. he released his digit, stilled for the lips pressing on his own. hard enough for his head's meager tilt before they broke apart with more noise than necessary. dork. another other time, such a kiss would be grounds for pinning his brat to the bed and going at him until denji was a mess all over the bed. this isn't on of those times and he runs his tongue cross his mouth beneath an annoyed husk. fuck, now he doesn't wanna be anywhere public.] Demolishers.
[explosives. chainsaws. what other names could go for such a cool combination? he notches his leg over one of denji's, tucks his arm under the man's pillow, and settles in beside him as movie plays and he's trying not to slide his other hand away from his boyfriend's thigh to something more interesting beneath the blankets.]

his expression softened soon after, the edges of his usual restlessness dulling down as he relaxed back into the nest of blankets. the glow of the fire from the far side painted the porch in warm flickers, chasing shadows over their stretched-out legs and the pile of wrinkled fabric underneath them. denji breathed deeper, shoulders sinking, the calm settling in him so naturally whenever he's around the other boy. with bakugou pressed close and the movie rolling on, the night felt wide open, ready to carry them both into an all-nighter without either of them fighting the pull of it. is he going to sleep? maybe. he's fucking exhausted, so that is a possibility in the near future. he will see how it goes. so far, aisde from the fun visuals and action scenes, the plot is getting a bit interesting to keep denji engaged. ]
Team demolishers. It sounds like you thought about it before. [ a gentle tease. what a nerd. ] The team will reunite once again on the battlefield. That's a promise. I'm working on it ... [ this mission wasn't as demanding, yet he still didn't show up in the way he wanted to. they did end up separating in the middle of it, and when they found each other again, all the major threats were over. another missed chance for them to team up, yet the thought of it isn't as terrifying. ironically, their fight in the underworld somehow helped remove that fear from denji's heart, the fact he knows he managed to fight around and against bakugou without killing him gave him hope that his blades won't hurt that boy again. the next mission will be their comeback; team demolishers.
denjiās eyes stayed on the screen, unblinking, like he was hanging onto every frame, but he wasnāt fooling himself. the weight of bakugouās hand resting against his thigh burned louder than the sound of the movie. it wasnāt moving, wasnāt demanding anything, just chilling there ... and that was exactly what got to him. his jaw tightened a little before he sighed, but his pulse betrayed him, quick under his skin. the fireās crackle outside blended with the dialogue he wasnāt even processing, his focus split clean down the middle. he shifted slightly under the blanket, not enough to push the hand away, just enough to feel it more. his calm unraveled in subtle ways as the corners of his mouth tugged down like he was fighting back a smirk, pretending the movie still had his full attention when all it really was now was background noise. and then, with a light chuckle, he muttered: ] I can't believe I'm saying this but ... move your hand away, babe.

lying among blankets in a muggy warmth, his body rapidly loses strength. feeling it fall away from his skin with each leaking droplet vanishing into bunched fabric beneath. yet for every lethargic strip picking across his arms and legs, each time his head bounces to the side in a tell-tale exhausted nod, it only takes a few seconds of darkness behind his eyelids to send his tormented adrenaline gland gushing a new flood through his veins. snapping him awake once more. he heard some creepy story a long time ago about how prisoners were tortured by refusing to allow them to sleep. is this what he feels like? a body craving rest and sleep, but prevented from slumbering. too tired to do much of anything, but too strung up to close his eyes.... fuck...]
Heroes don't always work alone. I had ideas about what I'd call and how I'd run any team I had to lead from when I was young. [notebooks full of costume ideas, quirk dreams, hero theory, team labels, branding concepts, and a host of other starry-eyed childish dreams. funny how reality doesn't give much a shit towards children's dreams. sometimes for the worse, sometimes for the better.] Don't push yourself. [denji will be ready when he's ready; bakugou's worked with him constantly over the issue, whether it's simply standing nearby while the half-devil revs his chainsaws to fighting pure fisticuffs beside him. of course chainsaws out in the shower while they wash off together was a stretch, but using denji's horny dick to combat his traumatized brain? he's not sure if it's mean or smart. can't be worse than shoving them together--hero vs villain--in the underworld.
as denji nuzzled closer to him, bakugou let his head sink sideways, thudding his temple on the other man's shoulder. so fucking tired, so hyped up, both together driving his brain into a strange twilight zone. seconds pass where he swears he's not conscious, only coming to and realize the movie's skipped ahead. sleep? who knows. maybe he'll simply fall unconscious where his brain doesn't have the capability to fear. he blinks once when denji's voice trails into his ears. hand? ... oh right, move it.] Tch. [but does as told, sliding his hand off and dropping it over his own stomach for now.] Tonight fucking sucks. Those bastards owe me a new night.
