SENDAI ROAD TRIP
While some people are personally invited (and they're not allowed to say no, thanks to Yuji's earnest expression and Tsurumaru's natural charm) anyone who is friendly with both are welcome to join in the road trip, to have fun, hang out, sleep at a temple and generally have a novel time exploring what was once home.
aka boys visit home and hang out with their friends
As summer starts to come to an end and autumn starts to begin, Yuji comes up with an exciting idea: having learned that Tsurumaru is also 'from' the Sendai region and being reunited with many of his friends, he wants to go on a trip. It's not too difficult to plot a route from Neo Tokyo to his hometown, in Miyagi Prefecture.

▶ 001. FOX HUNT.
To get to Sendai, everyone must cross through forests and mountains while occasionally stopping by ruined and abandoned cities. The further north they go, the colder and colder it gets until they start to encounter snow on the abandoned highways and roads. When they're close to Sendai, the road they're taking will take them through the abandoned village of Zao.
Zao is a small village in the mountains and there is a heavy layer of snow already. While they won't find any people, they will find many foxes running around. They range in colors like white, black, orange, blonde, and everything in between. While most of them seem ordinary enough, some of them are unusually large and have up to nine tails.
At first, they mind their own business but once they notice the group, they'll become very friendly and start to circle them. The foxes will try to cuddle with them and pick their pockets for valuables. Somehow, they even manage to get items that are locked up inside their vehicles. They try to play games with them using the stolen items. They run through the city and seem to change in size, shrinking and growing to escape them. Just when you manage to grab one, it disappears as if you were chasing an illusion the entire time. It all seems to be harmless fun and they'll eventually relent if you offer them food. After they're fed and have had their fun, they'll start to settle and allow cuddles and pets before the group has to move on to Sendai.

▶ 002. SEEING THE SIGHTS.
They'll arrive in Sendai in the afternoon. Maybe because it was once the largest city in the region, the city seems more impressive than some of the other cities they've passed through. While it is largely left to ruin, many of the buildings still stand and the roads are still navigable.
They'll also find a small population of people in the city. They centralize mostly around the station area though people can be found throughout the city. Local families make use of what is left of the city for shelter and live a hunter-gatherer type of life by going out into the mountains and forests to hunt and scavenge for supplies. There is also a group of researchers and military personnel that maintain a small watch station, relaying reports and information from the north down to Tokyo.
Yuji takes charge once they get to Sendai proper, and starts to throw himself into the exciting role of official Sendai tour guide. There are various places he recommends, and they don't have to all go together: he's happy to take anyone who wants to stick with him with him, but people are free to go off on their own and do whatever they want. He's not going to pressure you!
The list of places he offers are as follows:
The people are kind and friendly enough, but due to the isolated and harsh nature of the environment, they tend to be serious and aren't really the types to stick around and have a casual chat. They will, however, answer questions and give directions if asked. By talking to the locals in the area, they can learn they're free to camp out and stay at any unclaimed building in the city if they want to stay. However, if they want to stay somewhere more comfortable, they suggest heading to the coast, where some monks maintain a temple that occasionally hosts guests.

Many of the tourist attractions from Yuji's time are somewhat abandoned, now, so many of the stores and packed avenues are deserted and empty when they visit. There are still some stores selling souviners and offering gifts to take home, but it's not quite as prolific as it once was - and things are very different from Neo Tokyo.Zuihoden, the mausoleum complex of Date Masamune. Sendaijo Ato, castle ruins that date back to the 1600s. Akiu Falls, a 55 metre waterfall (which is awkwardly frozen, oops!) The Osaki Hachimangu Shrine, from the Edo period. Rinnoji Temple, founded by Shodo Shonin who introduced Buddhism to Nikko. Aobayama Park, the site of the Sendai Castle ruins, surrounded by sakura trees - with the blossoms completely frozen and preserved. Rairaikyo Gorge, a little hike that offers trees, moss covered rocks and a beautiful view of the frozen rivers.

▶ 003. NIGHT AT THE TEMPLE.
When it's time to rest and wind down, the group will decide to follow the advice of the locals and head towards the sea. Before they depart, some locals ask them to help take some supplies to the temple since they're going there anyway. The ride might be a little cramped with all of them and the bags and boxes of food and maintenance supplies but at least it isn't a long ride.
Eventually, they'll arrive at Matsushima City. Compared to Sendai, the city is a total ghost town. It won't take long to find it and once they do, it's hard to miss the large temple complex. It is made up of several buildings that are all carefully maintained by monks that are practicing meditation and training.
Some monks welcome them when they arrive. Apparently the supplier in Sendai called ahead to let them know they were on their way. They'll accept the supplies and if the group would like, they can even help carry the food to the kitchens and some of the other supplies to storage rooms. They're more than welcome to stay, though, they are warned that their accommodations will be humble.
Despite the warning, they are provided with comfortable futons, warm blankets, clean robes, hot baths, and simple but filling vegetarian meals. They don't ask for much in return but are happy to accept help maintaining the temple, whether it be with simple cleaning, doing some repairs, or helping to prepare meals. They are also welcome to worship and leave offerings. For those unfamiliar, some of the monks are happy to explain.
The temple also has a direct path to the scenic and renowned Matsushima Bay. It's different from how others might remember it, mainly because the sea freezes leaving sharp and spiky wave formations on the shoreline. As the frozen waves form, they make shattering and clinking sounds. There are also fewer islands than there were in the past because they have been destroyed by past attacks and disasters. However, the bay is still beautiful. There are still plenty of islands to see and there are even some thin paths and bridges connecting some of the closer islands if they want to explore.

All of the worries that lead him into all that harsh training seems forgotten once they're out on this journey. Part of him was unsure about leaving his regimen behind, but how can he resist a hiking trip through the mountains, led by Yuji? This is the ideal trip for him. Even though he was born and raised quite far from this part of Japan, it makes him a bit homesick; the cool air, endless forests, small villages dotting the mountains.
Yuji's enthusiasm is infectious, and Raidou can't help but be sucked in by it. He's excited himself to visit any and all places in Sendai with him, and everyone, but the gorge is the one he wants to visit the most. A little side hiking excursion with just the two of them.
While out exploring, they come across an old bridge they should probably take care crossing. While peeking down at the river and rocks below, Raidou spots something, and he breaks into a grin.]
Ah. Yuji, look.
[He points down at a formation in the rocks with a particular shape.]
Let's get down there and take a photo.

Things have been hard over the last few months, for the both of them. With the Underworld expedition and his own failures there, the after-effect still influencing him now, the fallout with Nanami, confessing everything to Geto... It had been hard to remain as optimistic as he usually is. It's one of the reasons why he had been so keen to do this, to ensure that both he and Raidou got away for a while - to give them a real break, to force them to relax.
Not everyone would consider a hike to be a decent break, but Yuji does, and he's more than happy to spend his time with his partner and explore the beauty of nature for a little while longer.
Peering over the edge of the bridge, his eyes widen with delight when he sees it. ]
There's no way... We have to go!
[ There's an urge to leap over the edge of the bridge and just tumble down, but he's not sure if that's a good idea, and he had promised Geto that he'd be good and careful, so... He stops himself, reaching back to take Raidou's hand and tug him along. ]
We should take a photo up here and then go down.

It's a bit of a (selfish) relief then to find Yuji still awake. The soothing presence of a friend is the best balm for a hurting heart that Yuta knows and what company is better than the one which shares an intrinsic understanding that no one else really does?
The melancholia doesn't show on his face as he gazes up at the stars that Yuji's been watching, but it's there in the softness of his voice, tainting the edges of his usual light tone. ]
It's a little strange to see everything so changed, isn't it?

There's no family shrine here for him to check, no house for him to uncover, nothing that betrays the life he had in this city before he was whisked away to Tokyo. It's not as though there's anyone who would miss him, no lifelong friends that mourned his loss or wanted to stay in touch, but it's the principle of the matter: it was home. For a long time, this place was everything Yuji knew, and that was ripped away from him by a curse.
He shifts to make a little more space for Yuta as his friend sits, nudging him gently with a shoulder before he faces the sky again, eyes crinkled as he smiles. ]
It's weird. It's the same, but it's so completely different. Maybe it's like a... Nostalgic feeling?
[ He's not sure how to explain it, but he thinks that Yuta understands him. ]
It was good to come back, but... It feels weird. This isn't home anymore.

▶ 001. FOX HUNT.
Who'd've thought his break would include watching his best friend running pell-mell after a kitsune? Why the hell are kitsune even in this place? A mythical creature from legends suddenly makes its appearance in the real world? Katsuki wants some kind of logical explanation. Later. When he's not lent back on a stone monument, pointing at Yuji with a laugh bursting from his lips.]
HA! You're never gonna catch it like that, Gari Head!
[ooc: sorry for the delay! this apparently never posted!]

[ Yuji is well aware that he could run faster and chase after the little fox if he really had to, but there's something exciting about seeing it run around with all glee and joy. It's relaxing, especially after the rough summer, and if he can hang out with people he cares about too? All the better. Why wouldn't he enjoy himself?
It's just good, and it feels like a relief after everything he's been through.
Frowning, he almost pouts at Bakugo, leaning forward and breathing out hard. ]

WILDCARD.
Ah, Yuji — [ Sorry, no time to say hi: you're being used like a pile of pallets a horror game now. Muramasa slips around Yuji and gives him a shove towards Rika with a little too much force to be resisted. When she collides with him, it's with her strange, dissonant voice that she explains what the situation actually is.
"YUJI. YOU'RE IT."
By the way, Muramasa's kept running after that shove, and is quite a way down the hall now, moving fast despite his advanced years and as quietly as he can, considering the hours. Better catch him fast! ]

01.
But the gust of wind that pours down from the hill and through the trees towards Raidou smells like rain, not ice, and is tinged with salt even though the sea is even further down the hills below the village. Perhaps the strange weather in the region has effected the way the sea breeze moves in the forest, but that doesn't explain the taste of smoke that lingers after the gust has finished tugging at his clothes and moving down the mountain. There probably isn't enough time to stop and ponder, either, with a thief on the run and a detective in hot pursuit —
And then Muramasa appears from between the trees, under-dressed for the cold with a white sukajan imitating his haori slung across his shoulders and catching on branches, and the sandals he wears in civilian disuse rather than proper shoes sinking into the snow with each step. The thief wriggles in his grasp like an overly excited puppy, nipping at his hand and trying to bite at the onigiri he's currently playing keep away with.
(Foxes are the messengers of Inari, and Inari is a kami of rice, much like Susanoo's daughter, Ukanomitama, is a kami of agriculture. Legends and myths overlap and blend together across years and worlds, but shrines in particular seem to tip the scales of influence that a particular Divine Spirit inside of Muramasa has on him.) ]
Ou, Kuzunoha — [ With the onigiri just out of reach, the fox yips shrilly at the smith, begging more like a common dog more than the messenger of the divine, and he laughs, finally relenting and letting the creature at the riceball with hungry chomps. ] Have you noticed all the animals here are either beggars or scoundrels?

yuta okkotsu | jujutsu kaisen | revelation
[ Going back to his hometown is a bittersweet, complicated matter given the tragedy that occurred there and the fact that it hasn't really been a home he can return to even back in his own world, but Yuta wants to go see it all the same. For that reason, all difficult feelings are shoved aside so as not to let any of them bleed through. He arrives to the entourage his usual polite, mild-mannered self, cheerfully bringing with him Muramasa and a surprise guest: a young girl, seemingly around 11 years old, with unsettling red eyes, a mole on her right cheek, and long white hair, wearing a matching white coat and a grey flowery pin in her hair while a sleeping bird sits on her shoulder, half-tucked into the corner of her hood to prevent it from falling off at the slightest jostle.
Anyone remotely familiar with Rika will recognize her oppressive aura immediately despite her unfamiliar looks. Yuta has gotten her a cloaking device for this trip so she can move freely among civilians and enjoy it too. (She's a Sendai girl after all, it only feels fair.) Not that she seems to care all that much about anything other than sticking close by Yuta's side. Save for a very select few, most people are regarded with a blank stare or — in the case of girls and adult men — given the stink eye when looking at or addressing her. At least she isn't too obtrusive; just an eerie, largely silent presence along for the journey.
At Zao village, Yuta hangs back on the fringes with her for fear that the overwhelming awful cursed energy that they both exude will scare the foxes away as it does with most animals and ruin the fun for everyone else. Any brief company will be appreciated (by Yuta at least) while they watch from afar.
Eventually there is an intrepid large fox that dares to venture close and Yuta is so delighted and taken with it, he does not notice the second one sneaking up from behind, ready for mischief, but Rika does and she's raising her tiny fists and visibly squaring up. Someone either stop her or alert Yuta before she decides to fistfight a fox that looks about twice her size, maybe? ]
02 ▸ SIGHTSEEING
[ For all that he's born and raised in Sendai himself, Yuta is largely content to listen to Yuji play the enthusiastic tour guide, but he jumps in where needed to offer suggestions, answer questions, or help direct anyone to whatever destination they've settled on. He's also happy to personally guide people to places when Yuji can't be everywhere at once; especially when he's keen on visiting Zuihoden and both the shrine and the temple himself.
Aside from the tourist attractions, he also takes the time to just wander the streets and check out whatever shops still remain and will not mind any company if others are as interested in what little remains of the city itself as him. Personal anecdotes will be freely given as well as the history of the city as he remembers it and as he was taught as a local if asked.
Wherever he's accompanied, he plays perfect host or is pleasant, upbeat company, happy to talk and use his hummingbird drone to take pictures or videos.
But sometimes he can be caught staring in a particular direction, gaze lingering on something unseen with distant eyes until his attention is called back or Rika takes his hand to snap him out of it. ]
03 ▸ TEMPLE NIGHT
[ Yuta's time is quick to get split between helping out the monks with various tasks and making sure their group doesn't raise too many suspicions about their actual otherworldly origins — appearing to hastily cover up any slip-ups he overhears in the vicinity with excuses and polite conversational redirections — to the point that his bustling to and fro hardly seems to be in the spirit of having a fun, relaxing time. Perhaps a helping hand in all the chores or someone to drag him away and take a break is in order.
Especially when it leaves Rika to get bored enough to stray a little further from his side and approach the nearest person with a: "W̸A̴N̷N̶A̶ ̸P̴L̴A̴Y̸?̴"
If the uncanny voice doesn't seem like reason enough to think twice about agreeing, then something about her distinctly sinister smile just might. Perhaps it's better to decline or you can accept at your own risk and find out just what play means to the creepy little girl. (Spoilers: it's fighting. She means to fight.)
Later after dinner, Yuta will have settled into actually relaxing a little more, moving around in the offered robes that he's added extra layers to like a scarf and a certain swordsmith's white haori after a bath; someone seems to get cold really easily. He can be found socializing and occasionally sticking to Muramasa like velcro — a strange thing to witness for anyone who knows him when he's normally so conscientious about other people's personal space. He'll also be up later than most if there any other insomniacs who could use some late night company, there to talk in quiet voices or be in amiable silence together. ]

Power | Chainsaw Man | Revelation
[ Power is, admittedly, kind of a menace when it comes to road trips. She hoards snacks (but usually relents after a word from Aki or Denji), cheats outrageously at car games, and has a hard time sitting still. Eventually she tires herself out and falls asleep against the nearest person's shoulder, though her unfortunate pillow should be careful of those horns.
And when she wakes up... oh man, the foxes alone have made this trip worth it! Power takes to them immediately, gently stroking their fur and happily playing with the ones who get close. Of course, it isn't long before one of them robs her of a bag of haribo candy, and soon Power is pelting through the abandoned town's back streets and alleyways, giving chase to the culprit. The minute she skids around a corner and spots someone, she yells: ]
You! Did you see the thief? Which way did he go?!
2) fox hunt part 2: these aren't the foxes you're looking for
[ Pay no attention to Power as she casually makes her way back towards the van; her coat isn't suspiciously lumpy, and those definitely aren't fox ears poking out from underneath her collar. If she catches someone looking at her, she'll stare right back at them with a look of carefully calculated (if not very effective!) innocence. ]
What? 'Tis rude to stare.
3) Sightseeing and snowballs
[ Power has little interest in the actual sightseeing. One human settlement is pretty much the same as another to her, even if this one seems rather empty in comparison to Tokyo. She buys a keychain or two for souvenirs, makes a few lofty comments about how the castles here have nothing on her castle back home, and then gets down to business.
Snowball business.
You might be caught off guard by the THWAP of a hastily-assembled snowball hitting you in the shoulder, but the culprit isn't hard to find. Power is crouched behind a snowy bench, but her horns are plainly visible above the snow. Plus, she's snickering. ]
4) Nighttime
[ It's been a long trip. Power, dressed in some warm robes (and a blanket that she's stolen from someone else's futon wrapped around her shoulders like a cape), is determined to enjoy some relaxation while she can, whether that means stargazing on the temple steps, or sneaking out at night to go see the icy beach.
September is... it's not a month that Power likes to think about. She isn't a very introspective person by nature, but September Thoughts are ones that she purposely avoids, and this temple is too big and too quiet to distract her properly. She'd welcome any distractions. ]

Bakugō Katsuki 💥 Boku no Hero Academia 💥 Everlight
▶ 001. FOX HUNT.
💥 ➊ CAR POOL.
[Supposed to be fucking autumn and already racing ahead to winter the further north they go. Duh. Did he have any interest in visiting Sendai? NOPE! Did Denji, Yuji, and Raidou give him a choice in the matter? ALSO NOPE! Here he sits in his car, heater flicked on and red eyes trained on the road ahead. Despite his vehicle's sporty look, it does comfortably fit four, with a surprisingly comfortable (see squishy) back seat. Don't worry; squishiness is adjustable. Throughout the road trip, Bakugo brings up the rear of their little caravan, following Yuji and Tsurumaru's directions even if they have a map on the oculars and his own vehicle's computer display to get there if needed. Making sure no one gets left behind or lost.
1) As the driver, Bakugo's a surprisingly-controlled road man, right arm propped on the window frame, left arm handling the steering. Doesn't swerve around people or thread needles. Definitely yells at idiots on the road. Keeps to the speed limit, whether the posted number or the accepted highway pace. While he'd opt for music with a beat alternating from hot rhythm and rock, he's not against calming music or listening to audio books. If his passengers want their own music or show... fine, but hope it's not stupid.
2) As a passenger, Bakugo's content to either nap in the car or read, not really engaging in conversation unless he's pulled into it. Either by being asked or the rest of you jokers getting too loud. He'll switch cars if there's a rotation in the carpool, or swap drivers if there's a request, but only Denji, Yuji, and Raidou are allowed (and able) to drive Bakugo's car. Long road trips aren't usually his thing, so a few hours on the road is enough to start making him cranky... ]
💥 ➋ FOX HUNT 1.
[Zao? Bakugo shuts the car door behind him and locks it before following the others into the village. Bundled in a white jacket with black hem and collar, he's shoving his hands into his pants pocket, boots crunching through the snow. An abandoned village? Red eyes scan around the area, noting the places inundation with foxes. Yeah, that's not kind of creepy at all. But after the cat colony at the hot spring outside Neo Tokyo, is a fox village any real different? He's content to hang back and watch the others interact wit the vulpine occupants, though as soon as he sees one of them running after a shifty thief, Bakugo's chiming in like any good friend-]
Ha! You got pick pocketed by a fox! Lame! He's gonna take a right!
💥 ➌ FOX HUNT 2.
[Unfortunately, he's not immune to all shenanigans himself. Branches sway Bakugo grabs onto a low-hanging bough and pulls himself into the tree, teeth bared in snarls as he crawls towards the red-furred devil. How the hell did these fox learn to climb in the first place?! They're usually on the ground or in burrows! Probably those multiple tails have something to do with it. Both knees on two branches, one hand catching another above him, the last one reaching for a certain dead bitch backing up in front of him onto another branch, Bakugo's the image of feral predator + enraged victim.]
Drop it or I'm having fox stew tonight, you shitty kitsune!
▶ 002. SEEING THE SIGHTS.
💥 ➊ SIGHTS. 1
[As much as he hates the cold, Bakugo's unable to refuse his friends stupid puppy eyes. Well, two of them. If Raidou tried to give him puppy eyes, he'd think the guy was having a problem. Keeping warm is another thing, so expect to find him in jacket and scarf plus hoodie combo in his way around Sendai. Hands in his pockets like always, not just cause he's a badass thug. While he usually sticks with Yuji and the group, sometimes he'll wander off on his own at one of the locations to explore until it's time to regroup.]
1) Zuihoden - [Even in his world of heroes and villains, Japan hasn't forgotten its past. Samurai and their feudal history continue to show up, with a few Pro Heroes theming themselves after samurai. Bakugo stands in front of one the tomb, reading over the plaque description honoring the man inside.] Kinda surprised this survived.
2) Sendaijo Ato - [Castles are few and far between, with public interest far lessened compared to other worlds. Luckily none have been destroyed, though he can't say people have been focused on keeping them up compared to hero-focused endeavors. They're preserved at least, and kept relatively safe. He stands by one of the windows, looking down into the courtyard.] You'd have to hit a target from here if you wanted to be considered a remotely decent archer.
3) Akiu Falls - [A frozen waterfall. What a surprise. Some waterfalls don't freeze even in the cold winter, but this one didn't get he memo. Bakugo would've been standing well back from it where spraying water's approaching. Instead, he's lifting a thermos of hot tea to his lips, looking up at the icy blockage.] Betcha I could unclog it.
4) Aobayama Park - [Another castle ruins, though Bakugo's less interested in the castle itself and instead wanders around the surrounding park. He tilts his head back, scowling at trees frozen strangely in the prime of their spring life. Is this a kaiju's work? They had to have been flash frozen sometime in April or early May.] How the hell do you think this happened?
5) Rairaikyo Gorge - [This is more to his liking! Bakugo's fond of going on hikes even in Neo Tokyo. One of his hobbies back home is mountain climbing. Not as much a risk when he can easily save himself from a fall. He crouches on a large boulder, careful not to slip on the moss, a gentle breeze rustling his choppy bangs in front of his face.] Hey look, they've got an ice skate rental down there. You wanna go?
💥 ➋ SIGHTS. 2
[Bunch of hunters and gatherers in this place. Not so much a city as it is a camp for survivors. One person thinks it's sad and pathetic, another person thinks it's impressive and strong. Either way, Neo Tokyo this ain't. Bakugo wanders through the stalls and stores of the marketplace, browsing through various wares. Souvenirs? Yeah, unless someone talks him into it or something really interesting catches his eye, he's likely gonna keep his proverbial wallet shut. Speaking of, a place as remote as this, do they even run on the credit system like Neo Tokyo and other large cities? It's not like this world's given them cash to spend in other locations. Then again, they've never had to exchange currency when they went to other nations...
Excuse him while he checks out a two rather impressive
hunting knives.]
▶ 003. NIGHT AT THE TEMPLE.
💥 ➊ TEMPLE. 1
[Fuck, they really stuffed their vehicles with as much shit as possible! A few things?! Glad they didn't have a damn trailer! Bakugo can be found in the kitchen later on, helping prepare food for the meal coming up. This place isn't accepting payment like a proper hotel and he's not about to sleep without some form of repay. His knives fly with all the speed and precision of a master chef, transforming carrots and potatoes into colorful lines of neat-sliced discs.
All swept a few seconds later into a pot of boiling broth. Celery and mushrooms next. He's a machine, lost in thought and focus as his cutting board transforms anything put upon it. A few of the monks are surprised at his skill, not having expected a "city boy" to know his way around a kitchen.]
Haa?! What the hell's hard about kitchen work!? I can do this in my sleep! [No one said his grateful service was gonna calm down his usual temper. Step in and apologize for him? Or tease him. Or find him later at dinner for a chat. Knock yourself out.]
💥 ➋ TEMPLE. 2
[Fire crackles in the room they're sleeping in. Bakugo might like his privacy, but he's more protective in a strange place, and all but demanded everyone sleep in the same large room. Like a school field trip. Why the hell not? Now if you'll excuse him, he's gonna work a fire in the central pit. Sitting in front of the now glowing flame, Bakugo tosses a few more sticks in, smoke rising towards the chimney flute above. Won't be long before the room's toasty. Didn't even use a match.
If you were watching, you might've seen him use his Quirk to light the fire. How? Igniting a multitude of tiny explosions, similar to his palm crawling with a numerous bubbling fireworks, and shoving the end of a thick stick onto his palm. It's no different than heating up a poker in the kiln and then using it to ignite the kindling in the pit. For now, he's content to toss in smaller sticks to make sure the fire's built up before crawling into his futon and bundling up for the night.]

car pool
after they're done with the hero's playlist, it was his turn. starting with this gem. denji leaned back against the driver’s seat, one hand loose on the wheel, the other tapping to the rhythm pulsing through the speakers. the song blared without shame, its beat thick with something scandalous, and he was eating up every second of it. every word is memorized like it's the national anthem. a crooked grin stretched across his face, the kind of look that made his eyes glint with mischief under the passing glow of streetlights. ]

Ah, how cute!
( Look at all of these foxes. Like many of the others, he wants to get close to them. Unfortunately, the foxes seem… to keep away from him?
It's almost like the menaces can sense when there's a
bullybigger menace among them and they seem to scatter and give him a wide breadth. In the end, he can be found sitting dejectedly at a bench, watching as the foxes play games and menace everyone else but leave him to waste away from boredom. )I didn't even do anything this time…
❀ UMOREGI (TEMPLE)
He's been in a good mood since they arrived in Sendai and being around familiar places gives him an extra spring to his step. It really is like being back home again even of the castle itself was long destroyed. He'll make due for the temples and landscapes.
If you're still up and he catches you, he'll tip toe over… and jump at you )
Wah!

It sneaks up on him, that grief. For a little while, he had manage to push it aside and focus on taking care of Denji, but now that he's alone again it feels a little bit like he's being overwhelmed, a little too close to a knife twisting in his chest. It's all a little too much, thrumming through him and making him feel sick, and he has to force himself to breathe in and out.
As his fingers flex at his side, he desperately wishes he had a cigarette with him.
Smoking had made him feel grounded, before, and when he had felt most alone it was a reminder of the people he had loved who had died in the fight against the Devils. Trying to quit so he clings to a little more of his life wasn't a bad thing, but he craves it now, the bitter, nasty taste to ground him, as addictive as it had been. A crutch, so he could avoid how bad he felt.
Tilting his head back, he breathes out, shuddering and weak, barely noticing the tears prickling at his eyes.
It's too much. ]

choso | revelation
[ halfway up the stairs to Rinnoji Temple there is a small, iced-over statue of the Buddha looking over the path, worn with age and smoothed by the elements, and Choso has stopped by to— not pray, no, but to inspect, maybe. to examine this idol of a religion he has never really understood, maybe.
so there he hunkers, sat back on his heels, his winter gear making more of a mountain of him than usual. in the cold of Sendai, he has taken to wearing nothing less than the puffiest jackets and thickest of scarves, all wrapped around to make him as marshmallow-like as possible. his hands? mittened. his hat? pompom’d. his nose? bright red in the cold.
after about thirty seconds of consideration, Choso eventually reaches up to brush away the snow piled up high on the statue. ]
2. aobayama
[ a figure stands beneath a particular tree, bundled up to the nines. it seems to be Choso, staring up into the ice-laden branches with an intensity oft only seen in battle. what could be up?
as you approach, he reaches up to one of the lower-hanging branches, and with a careful motion snaps a frozen bloom free to cup in a mittened hand. head tilted in curiosity, he turns it this way and that, as if letting the light reflect off the crystalline facets of the ice, as if inspecting the beauty inherent in such a strange little thing. like a gem found, shining in the wan sunlight.
then he eats it. just pops it into his mouth like a candy and bites down with a crunch that echoes through the immediate space.
mm. crackly. ]
3. matsushima
a. the gates; semi-closed to MURAMASA
[ the late morning finds Choso stopped at the threshold to the temple this time, staring upward like the tourist he has found himself to be all through this trip. only here, it isn’t the temple grounds he’s regarding or even the heavy doors themselves, but the Nioh standing guard on either side of the great gate.
he’s been standing there a little while, it seems, breath puffing in faint clouds, mittened hands hanging loose at his sides. it’s like the rest of the world has ceased, for the moment, a quiet falling over the grounds.
nioh gazes at nioh, neither blinking in this crisp, unseasonably frigid autumn. ]
b. the kitchens
[ the kitchens are a busy place, yet despite his own aversion to busy places and crowded room, Choso can be found smack dab in the middle of the place like the peculiar eye of an aromatic storm.
the afternoon finds him at one of the long tables with sleeves rolled up high above his elbows, a paring knife in one hand and a basket of potatoes by the other. nearby, a bowl holds what finished taters he’s managed to do, which at a glance seems to be… not that many. three perfectly-peeled potatoes sit gleaming within. the lack of progress is a little more understandable once one realizes that Choso has been working on the potato in his hand for at least a minute now; he carves and peels it with all the intent attention of a woodcarver, as if this were a piece of, what? art? instead of just a spud.
please. help him. he’s picking up another tater, more lumpier than the last. ]
c. the baths
[ late evening at the baths is a quiet affair, a much-needed respite after the chaos of dinner prep and dinner itself.
late-goers may find Choso already in the water, half-hidden in the steam of the large central bath, noticeable only by his absurd pigtails poking up beyond the edge. a tray laden with what looks like alcohol sits nearby, seemingly forgotten while the half-curse steeps himself into a prune.
would you like to join this weirdo for a spell? ]
d. worship
[ the smell of incense hangs in the early morning air. it seems that at this hour, before many of the temple guests have risen, one such outsider had taken to the altar to observe the monks in their rituals and their prayers. there he remains hours after the fact, left kneeling while the smoke of the offertory incense slowly dissipates around him.
have you something or someone to pray for, too? ]
matsushima. a.

Raidou has finished up his part of the prep, and the water is boiling, ready for the potatoes that are... far from finished. Oh dear.
He approaches, but of course, he asks permission to intervene first.]
