For those Outsiders on the younger side, Raidou has sent out a blanket text message to one and all inviting them to a hanami picnic at a park near the base. Everyone is encouraged to bring whatever snacks and entertainment they like, but it's not a requirement. Yukata are also encouraged but not required. This isn't anything formal, just a chance for everyone to hang out, for the newbie kids to get acquainted with their fellow Outsiders, and to get a little comeuppance on the adults who got to go out on a bar crawl without them all. The only rule is that adults will be turned away from sitting with them! Sorry, folks.

Raidou Kuzunoha is not exactly a person known for his social aptitude or party planning skills, and it's a miracle he's even come up with this idea, so it's definitely a good idea for people to bring want: food, drinks, games. Someone needs to sneak in the sake, because this straight-laced kid will not be. Not to fear if you come empty-handed though, as there are plenty of snack stalls nearby. Most of his efforts have gone into finding and securing the perfect spot for them to hang.

[ This guy...she wants to tell him to hush, but that'll probably have more effect if she actually tries the food first. Thus, she takes a bite out of the onigiri to test it.

She's pleased to find it tastes no different than what she'd expect. Nice seasoning with both salt and the seaweed wrapping, the rice isn't too hard or cold like it might be if it was store-bought, and the filling isn't too strong. The one she picked is umeboshi; always a fine choice with its sour tang a nice contrast to the sweeter rice.

She swallows and chuckles once. ]

You really need to chill. It tastes fine.

[ Yuji does need to chill: that's 100% his problem.

At least she's laughing a little, so he'll take it! Beaming, he leans back and nods his head, looking thrilled with himself. He did it! He made a good riceball (like it's hard, Yuji, please). ]

I'm glad! I'll make sure to share them out, then.

[ He huffs a sigh, relaxing. ]

Did you want to go and see the flowers?

[ His good mood is infectious. She'll give him that. Even she can't stay completely sour-faced around someone like this. It's why she actually gives some consideration to taking a walk to see the flowers more like he suggests. Once she's finished her snack. ]

Can't hurt I guess. There's enough people around to mind the spot in case anyone gets any funny ideas.

[ Yuji is bright and happy at the agreement and he looks around, trying to find a quieter area. She seems like the kind of person who would appreciate that... ]

It seems pretty relaxed over there. We could start with that one?

[ A quiet walk with a guy, under the cherry blossoms. If anyone told her about this kind of thing even a few months prior, she wouldn't have believed it. She supposes it's even funnier now since he's the not!boyfriend of a friend of hers.

Friend...huh. Even a few months ago, that would be a weird thing to say. ]

Here. [ She hands Yuji one of the sakura cookies she made once she's up on her feet. ] Can't hurt to eat one while we walk.

[ Yuji does not think for even a moment about the possible romantic implications here; he's too busy getting ready to start walking, enjoying the fact that he can spend a little free time with someone without any pressures. It's nice, isn't it?

Relaxing. Comfortable. He's having fun, the kind that Gojo-sensei was always bugging them to have.

Taking the cookie, he beams at her without hesitation. ]

Woah, thanks! Yeah, let's go. [ He takes a bite and hums his approval, eyes wide, giving her a thumbs up as they walk. ]

[ Lucy falls along in-step with him with a small laugh. She keeps her hands folded in her sleeves as they go and goes quiet as she takes in the petals flying by on the breeze. ]

It's so pretty here. Not what I'd expect for a city.

[eyescar]

[ Yuji chews and swallows before he speaks, nodding his head. ]

For how modern it is, I expected less nature, you know? But it's nice! I think it's relaxing.

[saudadist]

I wonder if there'll be those big, puffy flowers around more in the spring. The pink, blue, and purple ones...

[ Why can't she think of the name right now? Ugh... ]

Ah, hydrangeas. Those were everywhere in Kamakura.

Pink, blue and purple... Puffy flowers?

[ Why doesn't he know anything about flowers? He can't even imagine a hydrangea... ]

No, they're... [ God, how to describe this. It takes her a second, and she holds her hands out to make a semicircle. ]

They're big flower clusters, made of littler flowers. Like popcorn balls but made of flowers.

[ Maybe those are the kind of things he should decorate his room with... Does Choso like flowers? He should ask. ]

[ In hindsight, she should've just searched up a picture and sent it to him. Might've made it easier, but...well, she'll point out any if she sees them. ]

Speaking of... [ A small smirk curls at the edge of her mouth. ] Make sure to send Raidou any photos you take today. I'm sure he'll appreciate them.

[ There's a very, very gentle blush sneaking onto his cheeks right now. ]

[ The effort it takes to keep her face from breaking into a shit-eating grin is almost too much to bear. She should win some kind of award for her acting, truly. ]

I think it's a safe bet to assume two people are dating if you see them kissing in the hallway.

[ This is mortifying, not just because they got caught but because Raidou is super private, so if he knows people saw them kissing... Oh boy.

Shaking his head, he holds his hands up. ]

I don't know if it's like that...

[saudadist]

So you just kiss anyone like that?

[ She doesn't sound judgemental is the thing. Just curious, and waiting for a good answer. With the gaze of an unimpressed shark. ]

[ He's covering his mouth now. He talked about this with March, but... Have they been boyfriends this whole time?? ]

[ Lucy's quiet again, her steps slow, but she does smile some as she looks away. She sighs, and that smile seems to grow wider for it. ]

That's a relief. Compared to when we first got here, he seems more relaxed. [ He still beats himself up for it, but one step at a time. ] I'm glad.

Do you think so?

[ Is he the one doing that? Making Raidou feel relaxed? He thinks he just causes problems, so... The smile that settles on his face is warm and fond. ]

It's hard for me to understand him, honestly. He places a lot of value in things I can't wrap my head around.

[ She doubts she ever really could. Humans place so much emphasis on things that aren't tangible. They give strength to vague concepts rather than actions, and when those concepts crush them under their weight, they shrug and act as if it can't be helped. It makes no sense to her, but...if it matters that much, the least she can do is try to be supportive. ]

But he's started smiling more genuinely with you around. So...good job.
