KAIJU FIGHT #2

KAIJU FIGHT #2

CONTENT WARNINGS: electrophobia, body horror, death/injury, gore, violence.

▶ 001. IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL

On the 1st of April, Outsiders will be rudely awakened by the sudden voice of Captain Yamakawa:

"Angels of Lilith. I require your immediate attention. Through your efforts at extracting information from our captives, and intel collected by our intelligence team, we have located the culprits who have stolen our specimens and are conducting illegal experiments. Your mission briefing will arrive shortly. Take caution, however. The Neo Tokyo Meteorological Agency is reporting strange abnormalities in their readings. We will look further into this. For now, stay sharp and be prepared."

The alarm will sound in the base, urging all Outsiders to suit up, bring their weapons and get ready for the mission. A location pin will then be downloaded into their implant, along with an associated mission briefing. The location will lead to an abandoned amusement park that might be familiar to some - Tokyo Disneyland. The brief will report that according to intel, there is an unauthorized research facility hidden within the premises. Outsiders are to locate it, storm it, and seize any lab specimens they can find.

To get to the theme park, characters will be able to take trains to the edge of Neo Tokyo where they can then be transported by armored trucks through what remains of old roads. Eventually, when the terrain becomes too destroyed and overgrown with brush, they’ll have to travel by foot the rest of the way. However, they will have to be careful because it looks like someone has laid out traps. Some of them are designed to capture animals but others are clearly booby traps meant to deter intruders.

From the outside, nothing looks out of the ordinary in this old park - there are classic attractions such as Cinderella’s castle, the Haunted Mansion, Alice’s Teacup ride, the Western River Railroad, and many, many more. While most of the rides are weathered down and no longer functional, there are plenty of old gift shops and carnival game booths with prizes to take home for free (if you don’t mind a really old Minnie Mouse doll).

LILITH was not able to pinpoint exactly where this secret laboratory is hidden within the enormous park, and it’s now up to the Outsiders to find it. All implants will be fitted with a heat-seeking function to allow Outsiders to detect anomalies within the park.

The first part of the mission is simple: Scour the rides and attractions and find the entrance.

Outsiders may encounter more booby traps while searching the park. Traps will range from making parts of attractions and buildings collapse on intruders to more elaborate and high-tech ones like electric fields or explosive traps. Players are more than welcome to come up with their own traps so long as it fits the setting.

▶ 002. BOO WHO?

Eventually, Outsiders will find themselves drawn to the Haunted Mansion, where there appear to be several abnormal signs of life. While the mansion would hardly have been scary to anyone but children several hundred years ago, centuries without any sort of maintenance have turned the place into a real nightmare. Pitch darkness, decrepit fake graves that look like they could be real ones, and the mysterious chatter of – is that a ghost? There are flickers of life within the old animatronics, and ever so often you might see a skeleton or zombie twitch. They might even take a swing at an unsuspecting Outsider.

The deeper into the mansion you travel, the more power it appears to have, until the Outsiders reach a door that appears to be heavily guarded by a group of humans holding vicious chimeras on a leash.

Once LILITH receives this intel, the next order is given: Storm the lab immediately!

▶ 003. LET'S GECK-GO!

As the Outsiders infiltrate the lab, the air buzzes with electricity and everyone's hair begins to stand on end not from fear but from the sheer amount of energy generated. There may be a lot of machines generating a lot of power and some of it may be spilling excess electricity into the air but this feels different. It feels more potent.

Suddenly, the park comes to life. Old generators buzz to life, staticky music begins to play on the worn out speakers, and the lights begin to flash. From the overgrowth surrounding the park, trees begin to topple over. It is obvious that something is approaching and whatever it is seems to have a lot of energy. From the trees, a giant, gecko-like creature emerges. The air around it sparks and each step it takes generates a wave of electricity that follows the many wires and systems laid out underground.

The energy at the park seems to be drawing the unknown kaiju towards the park and more geckos appear from the forests behind it. They move quickly through the park and climb over the buildings and attractions. When they see a hybrid or a person nearby, they will stun them with their electric fields and try to eat them. As they begin to swarm the park, they go into a feeding frenzy that infects the air around them. Rides begin to spin faster, the music grows louder, lights explode, and the more electricity and power the geckos absorb, the bigger they become when they shed their skins.

One gecko in particular grows faster than the others. This one will keep growing with no apparent end in sight and begins climbing over the highest rides until they topple under its weight. Outsiders will have to avoid collapsing rubble and climb over ruined attractions to take down this kaiju while also stopping the other geckos from growing to the same size.

After dealing with the gecko kaiju for some time without any information, a report will finally come in:
█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: Yamadenki
HEIGHT: 3 metres- unknown (does not stop growing)
WEIGHT: 1,500-70,000 kg
CLASS: Dangerous
LOCATION: Kanto, Japan
ABILITIES: Stores electricity within its body. Uses static electricity to climb up and stick to objects. Can use electric shocks to stun and injure prey. The more energy they absorb, the bigger they grow. When close enough to a human, it kills them by biting into their flesh and absorbing the electrical currents within the cells, disrupting the heart rate and nervous system. It then eats the flesh.
WEAKNESS: Attacks to the head and body. Ice and extreme cold (they are cold blooded).
EXTRA NOTES: Can regrow appendages. Their severed appendages and bodies can retain electricity for an unknown amount of time so proceed with caution.

█ █ █ MISSION OBJECTIVE:
✖ Cut off the supply of electricity at the park by disabling all generators
✖ Bring back the Yamadenki (alive or dead) for research purposes
✖ Bring back the hybrid specimens
✖ Capture all suspicious persons for interrogation

█ █ █ ATTACHED PHOTO:

The Outsiders will have to cut off all energy supplies to stop feeding the newly named Yamadenki and then defeat them.

▶ 004. A RIFT IN SPACE-TIME

"MAYDAY, MAYDAY! Unknown energy signal detected! Reaching maximum output! Our sensors are detecting a breach in the inter-dimensional fabric!"

An hour into battle, Outsiders will receive a sudden warning signal, urging them to complete their mission and eliminate the Yamadenki before it’s too late. All that concentrated energy generated at the park is being corrupted by the Yamadenki, and it’s not long before a rift bursts through from beneath the Haunted Mansion, causing a huge explosion and a rain of rubble and mysterious energy. It’s the first of its kind. A rift has never opened this close to Neo Tokyo!

Energy from the rift seems to affect anyone standing too close to it, transforming any unprotected human into a snarling, groaning, human-reptilian hybrid. These hybrids have electrical qualities similar to the Yamadenki and are just as ferocious. The plugsuits issued by LILITH should protect characters against any nasty transformations (unless there is some damage to them or they have taken them off), but exposure to the rift can still result in increased headaches, vertigo, irritability and impulsiveness.

The rift is growing larger by the minute, and from the other side of it - the growling of a number of unknown beasts can be heard. Even the higher ups within LILITH are anxious about this. The only way to stop the rift is to cut off its power supply.

"Angels of LILITH! We must act fast! Disable all generators and subdue the Kaiju before it’s too late!"

▶ 005. AFTERMATH.

As the Outsiders shut down generators and take down the Yamadenki, the rift shrinks in size until finally it closes. Everything at the park goes still now that there is no more power to run things. Some of the corrupted humans and hybrids still linger and will have to be taken down or captured but they are in weakened states now that the rift has closed.

Outsiders will be tasked with capturing the Rift-infected humans who will then be transported to LILITH base for treatment... if they can be treated, that is. Outsiders will also need to report for treatment. Characters may experience the lingering effects of the rift such as the vertigo, headaches, shorter tempers, and impulsive behavior. The LILITH medics aren’t sure what to do other than prescribing bed rest and maybe offering some medication for their headaches. The worst cases may be prescribed sedatives.

Normally, LILITH would order the Outsiders to retrieve specimens from the field but given the events that unfolded, they are told to standby until a special research unit can inspect the area for contamination and give the all clear.

▶ 006. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our second Kaiju log! As before, all prompts are highly encouraged but OOCly optional. ICly, any characters suffering negative effects from the rift will recover within a week, though you are welcome to determine the severity of their symptoms during that time.

Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the smaller kaijus. The main fight with the largest gecko will be determined via a HP-based system (See below).

All tags in this log count for 2 reward points each. Ask any further questions below!

[quietly:]

Yes.

[personal profile] ignoreher 2024-04-03 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ that's what she thought. which is why he shouldn't be surprised that she produces a pair of them from her sleeve, crowns the both of them and reaches up

pauses, staring at his plugsuit. ]

... Maybe I should just hold onto them for now. I don't want to damage it more than it might get from fighting.

...But you're okay with the mouse ears.

[YOU'RE OKAY WITH THE MOUSE EARS??????]

[personal profile] ignoreher 2024-04-04 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
It's fine if they get a little dirty, and they aren't messing with your suit any... but I don't think pinning some metal to you while we're fighting these lizards is a good idea.

[ seems like a bit of a hazard. just a bit. though she hits his chest lightly with the king's crown in hand, grinning cheekily. ]

Unless you can absolutely promise you won't get shocked.

...

[he]

[can't help it, he's smirking just a little bit. teeny tiny bit]

Who do you think you're talking to? A Grade 8 Fixer?
ignoreher: (22)

[personal profile] ignoreher 2024-04-04 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[ ... he's surprisingly cute after all. malkuth'll pin the crown accessory to him then, fastening her queen's one on him too after a moment. ]

Keep mine safe too then, Red Gaze. I can't guarantee I won't be with how easily I strut into danger.

[ why can't march see this side of him? it's fun to talk to him like this... ]
immortalpoet: (Default)

[personal profile] immortalpoet 2024-04-04 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[He reaches up to touch the pins lightly with his hand - there's something more conflicted, here, but it disappears when he raises his head.]

[Protecting anyone...when he was told he was a bodyguard here for his civilian job, he thought it was a joke.]

[Could he really protect people? After everything he's lost?]

Are you sure?
ignoreher: (11)

[personal profile] ignoreher 2024-04-04 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup! It's the people who've known loss that know best how to keep things safe, right? And Fixers are people who know that better than anyone.

[ colors especially. the red mist lost a lot even before she became a color, and gebura lost plenty after. argalia lost his sister, but even before that he must have lost more than just that. the purple tear... was said to have lost her son, and strove across dimensions to find him again. and not just in rumor, malkuth knows; the book had been something they'd all be interested in, the powers she had that gave her her name, and the words remain imprinted even now in her mind.

all i want is to meet my son (...) it almost seems to be within my reach, but it always ends up being a mirage.

poor woman. ]

Return it to me when we're back at the base, safe and sound. Okay? We can get drinks to celebrate -- coffee, not alcohol.

[ not that anyone is gonna be good with the rift's effects hitting hard but it's fine. raincheck it. ]
immortalpoet: (coral)

[personal profile] immortalpoet 2024-04-04 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's wrong.]

[His blood chills at that. He knows its wrong. Fixers can't keep anything safe. He's the glaring example of it.]

[Fixers are always meant to lose who they love.]

[His gaze darkens a little, staring through Malkuth instead of at her for the briefest moment.]

If you think so.

[And then his eyes flicker back to her face.]

...Fine. [But he's reaching up to his funny headband.] I don't want to wear this when fighting these things, though.
ignoreher: (04)

[personal profile] ignoreher 2024-04-04 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... looking past her, not at her. it's nostalgic in a painful way, just for a moment. malkuth flits up and takes it off his head, mussing his hair lightly before just letting her hand stay there. ]

I do think so. It's easy to just give up and not care about anything or anyone at all, it's harder to reach even a finger out.

[ to even think of it, maybe. a passing thought is still a thought. a glance is still a glance.

she heaves a half-fond sigh, her smile half the same. ]

But maybe I'm just optimistic. I bet you'd say so.
immortalpoet: (Default)

[personal profile] immortalpoet 2024-04-04 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
The City makes it so. It takes everything good and tramples it under its feet.

[The hand to his head makes him still - he hates it, really, how quickly it calms the flurry of thoughts in his head. He heaves a little sigh of his own, reaching up to gently rest his fingertips against her wrist.]

You're too optimistic. It can be a bad thing. But...in the end. That's just you.
ignoreher: (33)

[personal profile] ignoreher 2024-04-04 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ they're calloused but warm, rougher than old wood and stone compared her hers. malkuth wonders if he'd intended on removing her hand from his head and then wonders why he'd stopped; maybe it's more of a reassurance, or it's thoughtless, or... nothing else comes up as an excuse nor reason, so she leaves it.

it's nice he can be so gentle, still. despite the city's insistence otherwise. this is something she thinks every time. ]

Do you like that about me?
immortalpoet: (maroon)

[personal profile] immortalpoet 2024-04-04 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Do I...?

[He starts, stops. He's unsure. Part of him is kneejerk reflex. Of course he doesn't like it. Part of him is latent feelings, simmering like a fire deep in the dark forest of his chest.]

[His fingers curl gently over her wrist.]

I...I think you're foolish.

[This is not an answer, and he knows it.]
ignoreher: (10)

[personal profile] ignoreher 2024-04-05 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ they scrape at her skin, leaving no physical trace yet it tingles anyway, reminiscent of the gecko she'd been studying not so long ago. this is not an answer. it feels like part of one. vergilius's hand covers her smaller wrist as if he were cupping a fragile bird's nest. ]

I am foolish, probably. But I don't think it's a bad thing to be anymore.

[ not entirely. malkuth watches his hand, the line between getting to know someone and studying them thin as can be. it's scarred and strong, one of two that have more than likely killed their fair share with and without a blade clasped inside their palms. it's careful as can be, ensuring not a bit of bruised discoloration or redness that might come from the pressure of fingers against the thin skin. ]

What's on your mind?
immortalpoet: (rose)

[personal profile] immortalpoet 2024-04-05 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
...

[He doesn't know what to say. The words come from his chest and die instantly in his mouth, like mayflies doomed to last a moment.]

[So he holds her hand for a moment. It's soft. She even stated earlier she never got so down and dirty with the Abnormalities. She was watching on high, watching the workers of L Corp, watching the victims of Library. Now, this tainted angel has fallen to be among the people.]

[To be among the ghosts, like him.]

[His throat feels scratchy, like he's been lost in a desert for ages, and has barely remembered the sense of water. Vergilius finally tugs the hand down for a brief moment, allows her fingertips to slide over to the side of his head.]

[He still has no words. His eyes are creased, almost guilty.]
ignoreher: (04)

[personal profile] ignoreher 2024-04-05 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ ...

she remembered it back when they danced, a faint memory itself, and she recalls it now with a bit of a laugh. malkuth's heart feels like a bird in her chest, even as her hands are steady when she places both of them, the one trapped by his and the one free, headband hung at the crease of her elbow, against his cheeks. scarred and near corpse-like in their pallor, a fearsome beast with the most beautiful stained glass eyes she's ever seen. ]

What are you acting so guilty about? I can touch you without needing a few drinks, I just... didn't know if you'd be okay with it.

[ she can poke and prod kaito, can hold march's hand and hug her, but vergilius... but others were still an unknown, though she's learned she can hug rodya if she wants too. her thumb grazes his cheek experimentally, the line between studying and something else thin. ]
immortalpoet: (vermillion)

[personal profile] immortalpoet 2024-04-05 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not...guilty.

[He finally says, the words stumbling out - he has the gall to almost look slightly offended, the child with a hand stuck in the cookie jar.]

[But that's true. Previous times have been under the dance of alcohol. It was easier to make excuses then. What excuse is there, now?]

[Her thumb shifts, and his eyelids flutter, making the light in them almost sparkle. His own thumb acts in mimicry, brushing against the inside of her wrist.]

It's just...not bad.

[Yeah. There we go. Please kill him now, actually. Gecko please come kill him.]
ignoreher: (04)

[personal profile] ignoreher 2024-04-05 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ she wonders if he can feel her pulse beneath his thumb, light as a bird's wings and fluttering just as hard at the simple motion. this isn't a kind of physicalness she's used to with friends. it feels nice, it feels like something she'd like more of, it...

... it isn't something she should tread lightly, or want too much of; there's a sea between her and vergilius, one of her own making as she shifts more of the full truth beneath its opaque waves. malkuth's exhale is shaky, looking for an excuse to let go, and the shift of movement from behind the other gives her ample opportunity to do just that. ]

Behind you, thirty-five degrees on your left. Don't lose my pin, Vergilius.

[ her wrist pulls from him, reluctant on her end, reluctant perhaps on his, before she dips off to blind it with the curve of her serrated scythe and ditch. it's nothing he can't handle. it's just the situation she needs time away from. ]
immortalpoet: (coral)

[personal profile] immortalpoet 2024-04-06 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Of course he can feel her pulse.]

[A reminder of her being alive. A reminder of the blood pulsing through her veins.]

[And that reminder is what has him also feeling like he's standing on the distant end of the sea, seeing it turn blood-red with memory. No. After everything he's done...he can't make excuses.]

[He doesn't deserve this.]

[The remark makes his eyes dart away, but by the time he's looking back at her, she's pulling away. His hand instinctively twitches forward, wishing to catch her, but its too late. He can't. He shouldn't.]

[There goes the ship on that blood-red sea into the distance.]

...

[But at least he has this pin to keep her close, somehow. Ugh. That's an overly poetic notion, even for him. He pulls back, gladius in hand, before he moves in to decapitate his prey, the pins paridoxically feeling heavy on his chest.]

[Still...he can't help it, can he?]
