KAIJU FIGHT #2

KAIJU FIGHT #2

CONTENT WARNINGS: electrophobia, body horror, death/injury, gore, violence.

▶ 001. IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL

On the 1st of April, Outsiders will be rudely awakened by the sudden voice of Captain Yamakawa:

"Angels of Lilith. I require your immediate attention. Through your efforts at extracting information from our captives, and intel collected by our intelligence team, we have located the culprits who have stolen our specimens and are conducting illegal experiments. Your mission briefing will arrive shortly. Take caution, however. The Neo Tokyo Meteorological Agency is reporting strange abnormalities in their readings. We will look further into this. For now, stay sharp and be prepared."

The alarm will sound in the base, urging all Outsiders to suit up, bring their weapons and get ready for the mission. A location pin will then be downloaded into their implant, along with an associated mission briefing. The location will lead to an abandoned amusement park that might be familiar to some - Tokyo Disneyland. The brief will report that according to intel, there is an unauthorized research facility hidden within the premises. Outsiders are to locate it, storm it, and seize any lab specimens they can find.

To get to the theme park, characters will be able to take trains to the edge of Neo Tokyo where they can then be transported by armored trucks through what remains of old roads. Eventually, when the terrain becomes too destroyed and overgrown with brush, they’ll have to travel by foot the rest of the way. However, they will have to be careful because it looks like someone has laid out traps. Some of them are designed to capture animals but others are clearly booby traps meant to deter intruders.

From the outside, nothing looks out of the ordinary in this old park - there are classic attractions such as Cinderella’s castle, the Haunted Mansion, Alice’s Teacup ride, the Western River Railroad, and many, many more. While most of the rides are weathered down and no longer functional, there are plenty of old gift shops and carnival game booths with prizes to take home for free (if you don’t mind a really old Minnie Mouse doll).

LILITH was not able to pinpoint exactly where this secret laboratory is hidden within the enormous park, and it’s now up to the Outsiders to find it. All implants will be fitted with a heat-seeking function to allow Outsiders to detect anomalies within the park.

The first part of the mission is simple: Scour the rides and attractions and find the entrance.

Outsiders may encounter more booby traps while searching the park. Traps will range from making parts of attractions and buildings collapse on intruders to more elaborate and high-tech ones like electric fields or explosive traps. Players are more than welcome to come up with their own traps so long as it fits the setting.

▶ 002. BOO WHO?

Eventually, Outsiders will find themselves drawn to the Haunted Mansion, where there appear to be several abnormal signs of life. While the mansion would hardly have been scary to anyone but children several hundred years ago, centuries without any sort of maintenance have turned the place into a real nightmare. Pitch darkness, decrepit fake graves that look like they could be real ones, and the mysterious chatter of – is that a ghost? There are flickers of life within the old animatronics, and ever so often you might see a skeleton or zombie twitch. They might even take a swing at an unsuspecting Outsider.

The deeper into the mansion you travel, the more power it appears to have, until the Outsiders reach a door that appears to be heavily guarded by a group of humans holding vicious chimeras on a leash.

Once LILITH receives this intel, the next order is given: Storm the lab immediately!

▶ 003. LET'S GECK-GO!

As the Outsiders infiltrate the lab, the air buzzes with electricity and everyone's hair begins to stand on end not from fear but from the sheer amount of energy generated. There may be a lot of machines generating a lot of power and some of it may be spilling excess electricity into the air but this feels different. It feels more potent.

Suddenly, the park comes to life. Old generators buzz to life, staticky music begins to play on the worn out speakers, and the lights begin to flash. From the overgrowth surrounding the park, trees begin to topple over. It is obvious that something is approaching and whatever it is seems to have a lot of energy. From the trees, a giant, gecko-like creature emerges. The air around it sparks and each step it takes generates a wave of electricity that follows the many wires and systems laid out underground.

The energy at the park seems to be drawing the unknown kaiju towards the park and more geckos appear from the forests behind it. They move quickly through the park and climb over the buildings and attractions. When they see a hybrid or a person nearby, they will stun them with their electric fields and try to eat them. As they begin to swarm the park, they go into a feeding frenzy that infects the air around them. Rides begin to spin faster, the music grows louder, lights explode, and the more electricity and power the geckos absorb, the bigger they become when they shed their skins.

One gecko in particular grows faster than the others. This one will keep growing with no apparent end in sight and begins climbing over the highest rides until they topple under its weight. Outsiders will have to avoid collapsing rubble and climb over ruined attractions to take down this kaiju while also stopping the other geckos from growing to the same size.

After dealing with the gecko kaiju for some time without any information, a report will finally come in:
█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: Yamadenki
HEIGHT: 3 metres- unknown (does not stop growing)
WEIGHT: 1,500-70,000 kg
CLASS: Dangerous
LOCATION: Kanto, Japan
ABILITIES: Stores electricity within its body. Uses static electricity to climb up and stick to objects. Can use electric shocks to stun and injure prey. The more energy they absorb, the bigger they grow. When close enough to a human, it kills them by biting into their flesh and absorbing the electrical currents within the cells, disrupting the heart rate and nervous system. It then eats the flesh.
WEAKNESS: Attacks to the head and body. Ice and extreme cold (they are cold blooded).
EXTRA NOTES: Can regrow appendages. Their severed appendages and bodies can retain electricity for an unknown amount of time so proceed with caution.

█ █ █ MISSION OBJECTIVE:
✖ Cut off the supply of electricity at the park by disabling all generators
✖ Bring back the Yamadenki (alive or dead) for research purposes
✖ Bring back the hybrid specimens
✖ Capture all suspicious persons for interrogation

█ █ █ ATTACHED PHOTO:

The Outsiders will have to cut off all energy supplies to stop feeding the newly named Yamadenki and then defeat them.

▶ 004. A RIFT IN SPACE-TIME

"MAYDAY, MAYDAY! Unknown energy signal detected! Reaching maximum output! Our sensors are detecting a breach in the inter-dimensional fabric!"

An hour into battle, Outsiders will receive a sudden warning signal, urging them to complete their mission and eliminate the Yamadenki before it’s too late. All that concentrated energy generated at the park is being corrupted by the Yamadenki, and it’s not long before a rift bursts through from beneath the Haunted Mansion, causing a huge explosion and a rain of rubble and mysterious energy. It’s the first of its kind. A rift has never opened this close to Neo Tokyo!

Energy from the rift seems to affect anyone standing too close to it, transforming any unprotected human into a snarling, groaning, human-reptilian hybrid. These hybrids have electrical qualities similar to the Yamadenki and are just as ferocious. The plugsuits issued by LILITH should protect characters against any nasty transformations (unless there is some damage to them or they have taken them off), but exposure to the rift can still result in increased headaches, vertigo, irritability and impulsiveness.

The rift is growing larger by the minute, and from the other side of it - the growling of a number of unknown beasts can be heard. Even the higher ups within LILITH are anxious about this. The only way to stop the rift is to cut off its power supply.

"Angels of LILITH! We must act fast! Disable all generators and subdue the Kaiju before it’s too late!"

▶ 005. AFTERMATH.

As the Outsiders shut down generators and take down the Yamadenki, the rift shrinks in size until finally it closes. Everything at the park goes still now that there is no more power to run things. Some of the corrupted humans and hybrids still linger and will have to be taken down or captured but they are in weakened states now that the rift has closed.

Outsiders will be tasked with capturing the Rift-infected humans who will then be transported to LILITH base for treatment... if they can be treated, that is. Outsiders will also need to report for treatment. Characters may experience the lingering effects of the rift such as the vertigo, headaches, shorter tempers, and impulsive behavior. The LILITH medics aren’t sure what to do other than prescribing bed rest and maybe offering some medication for their headaches. The worst cases may be prescribed sedatives.

Normally, LILITH would order the Outsiders to retrieve specimens from the field but given the events that unfolded, they are told to standby until a special research unit can inspect the area for contamination and give the all clear.

▶ 006. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our second Kaiju log! As before, all prompts are highly encouraged but OOCly optional. ICly, any characters suffering negative effects from the rift will recover within a week, though you are welcome to determine the severity of their symptoms during that time.

Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the smaller kaijus. The main fight with the largest gecko will be determined via a HP-based system (See below).

All tags in this log count for 2 reward points each. Ask any further questions below!

R-Right...!

[ She shakes her head! No more thinking about her precious little grape. They have a mission at hand, and they can't afford to mess it up. Check the carousel for traps... That should be simple enough. She grabs the cage dangling from her hip and very gently shakes it, releasing some orbs of energy that swirly around the carousel.

One of them comes into contact with a wooden horse and immediately triggers an explosion, one powerful enough it would have blown up anyone riding it. That's the only trap her orbs trigger though. ]

How cruel... What if a child had stumbled upon this?

[ What if a daydreaming goddess had? Truly, some people are heartless. ]

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-05 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think some self-respecting child is going to get this far inside the park, that's for sure...

[ at least the bomb detonated safely without being accidentally triggered. still, ishmael has to wonder: ]

Did you use magic just now? [ just curious ]
queenofkur: (dai 050)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-06 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[ You never know! She's met with the souls of so many dead people - and children - it's tragic what kind of things can happen to them. Though she cants her head to the side when Ishmael asks about her magic. ]

Yes, of course. [She lifts her cage once more, the little orbs returning inside it.] Though my powers are very limited through this avatar, I am a goddess nonetheless.

[ She can't do her most powerful attacks... But she likes to believe what powers she has access to are still useful. ]
wheft: (pic#16862410)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-08 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ avatars?? okay, back up. she's seriously confused here now, clutching her head at that. ]

So you're really a goddess, huh... [ that's crazy. ] But if that's the case, how did LILITH manage to summon figures like you? That doesn't make sense.
queenofkur: (faa 049)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-08 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
[ O-Oh goodness... Is it lore explanation o'clock? Okay, she can do this! Probably. Hopefully. ]

For divine spirits to walk amongst humans, they need a vessel. However... It's not possible for a vessel to contain an entire divinity. [She closes her eyes. Maybe a simple comparison will make this easier to understand.] Imagine if you tried cramming the entire ocean into a bottle. All you'd accomplish is breaking the recipient.

[ Okay, it's not a perfect comparison and it's super simplified, but that works. ]

What LILITH summoned is the bottle, and not the ocean.

[ Phew... H-Hopefully she got the big picture. ]
wheft: (pic#16844213)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-10 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ in fact, she does!! it's very helpful, and she nods in understanding. ]

I see. Essentially they made you more... portable?

[ portable water... ]

Though I guess since you're a goddess, you'd be more of a barrel full of water than a mere bottle. You're still capable of a lot of feats that someone like me couldn't.
queenofkur: (daz 506)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-10 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Yes! She totally got it! ]

Right! And since the barrel is still too small to contain the entire ocean, some things were left out.

[ The unpleasant things, for the most part. It would be a real problem if she was as gloomy and cold as her old self. ]

But you know, humans are capable to feats even gods can't do. It's not about the quantity or the vessel, but about the limitless potential of a soul.
wheft: (pic#16844172)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-11 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ now that's... an interesting way of putting it? she actually looks at ereshkigal a bit skeptically, but still willing to hear her out on it. ]

What do you mean? Aren't gods also limitless in a way?
queenofkur: (faa 053)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-11 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Gods are very limited. [She smiles sadly and looks up at the sky.] Those stars are beautiful, aren't they? They're gigantic cosmic bodies that dwarf humans. Like the sun.

[ Speaking of which: ]

There is a god who is the sun. You are minuscule compared to his powers and wisdom. But that is all he will ever be. He cannot grow. He cannot change. He can never be anything but the sun.

[ Did she pick the sun on purpose? Yes, absolutely. Nergal can suck it up. ]

Humans can grow. Humans can change. They can be everything.
wheft: (pic#16862410)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-13 12:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she follows ereshkigal's gaze towards the sky, the stars above them glittering like jewels. it's rare, seeing the skies so clear.

but she didn't expect ereshkigal's spiel at all. guess she owes the other woman an apology; ishmael just wasn't familiar with your game, is all. ]

I mean... That's one way of boosting human morale.

[ the human spirit is just that indomitable, she muses. ]

But what's stopping you from growing and changing? Just because you're the goddess of death doesn't mean you can't keep on living. Or something.
queenofkur: (baf 002)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-14 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She closes her eyes as she ponders... It's a good question, actually. There are so many factors at play. Like what they fundamentally are. The faith humans have in them, or lack thereof. But most importantly: ]

The thought never even occurred to me before I got this human vessel... [Or when it did, she never considered it a viable option.] I suppose it's just not in our nature.

[ She wonders what the other gods would say? She's never really talked with them... And she can't say she bear them any affection. ]

I suppose now it would be possible... But the dead need a caretaker. It's not like I can abandon my duties.
wheft: (pic#17035705)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-15 12:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ talking about death in general is... such a touchy topic for ishmael, considering the stuff she just recently went through before coming here, but she may as well take the bait. maybe it'll give her some sort of closure too. ]

Why do they need caretaking? They're dead. There's... really nothing else to it after that. [ she turns to eresh, almost pleadingly. ] Right?
queenofkur: (fab 203)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-16 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... Oh. That sounds like a touchy topic. Of course it is. It is so for every humans. Even gods are not comfortable at the thought of death. ]

It depends on the world, era and pantheon. I could explain to you how it works where I come from, but it would not apply to your reality.
wheft: (pic#16864546)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-16 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
...I see.

[ she nods, tearing her gaze from the sky and towards the dilapidated carousel nearby. ]

Back at the City, people can die the most senseless and meaningless of deaths. Your name will be just another statistic, and no one will stop to remember you by as life goes on. [ she would know. she was almost one of them. ] Your world must be so fortunate to have someone like you to help the dead live on.
queenofkur: (faa 053)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-16 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[ That sounds awful. No respect for the dead. Which in turn likely means no respect for life. She closes her eyes for a moment. She has an idea, one she can make no promises on. But that's worth a try.

When she looks at Ishmael, Ereshkigal both looks and sounds a lot more serious and confident than usual. ]

Your name is Ishmael, right? Do you have a full name? Is your homeworld Earth or does it have another name?
wheft: (pic#16925114)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-16 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ at the mention of her name, she turns around to face the other woman, shaking her head. ]

Just call me Ishmael. I come from the City. That's... pretty much all I know.
queenofkur: (faa 031)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-16 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ishmael from the City...

[ Not even a world or family name... Is that amnesia? She would ask, but that may be too nosy. ]

That's really not a lot to go with to divert your soul to my Underworld. [She smiles.] I don't know if it'll be possible. But I promise to try.
wheft: (pic#17070395)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-16 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she was planning to do what-- ]

W-Wait, hold on. I don't think whatever you're planning is going to be possible. I appreciate the offer, but even if it works, I... don't think I'm comfortable going to some sort of afterlife after I die.

[ that, and. well. it's not actually possible for her to die permanently HAHA but that's under NDA so.......... ]
queenofkur: (aac 010)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-16 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh...!

[ It's definitely almost impossible, but there's no harm in trying! ]

I-I'm sorry, I misread you it seems... I thought the idea of a non-existent afterlife terrified you...
wheft: (pic#16844174)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-17 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, I'm fine with the idea of not having an afterlife. It's just--

[ SIGH. ugh, how should she explain this to a goddess... ]

I can't stay dead by normal means. At least back home.
queenofkur: (dag 006)

[personal profile] queenofkur 2024-04-17 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
So you are not a regular human...

[ That's not totally unexpected, of course LILITH would summon special people. ]

If that is any comfort, you will die someday. [That may not sound comforting right away, but that's an absolute truth.] It is the fate of all things that exist. Even gods.
wheft: (pic#16862442)

[personal profile] wheft 2024-04-17 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, I'm still human. I wish I could explain it to you, but I'm under contract not to elaborate.

[ and she really, really doesn't want to find out what happens if she breaks a contract. ]

But I get where you're coming from and... That's oddly comforting, in a way. [ an awkward smile. ] My job's not done yet though, so I'm not going anywhere.
