KAIJU FIGHT #2

CONTENT WARNINGS: electrophobia, body horror, death/injury, gore, violence.

▶ 001. IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL

On the 1st of April, Outsiders will be rudely awakened by the sudden voice of Captain Yamakawa:

"Angels of Lilith. I require your immediate attention. Through your efforts at extracting information from our captives, and intel collected by our intelligence team, we have located the culprits who have stolen our specimens and are conducting illegal experiments. Your mission briefing will arrive shortly. Take caution, however. The Neo Tokyo Meteorological Agency is reporting strange abnormalities in their readings. We will look further into this. For now, stay sharp and be prepared."

The alarm will sound in the base, urging all Outsiders to suit up, bring their weapons and get ready for the mission. A location pin will then be downloaded into their implant, along with an associated mission briefing. The location will lead to an abandoned amusement park that might be familiar to some - Tokyo Disneyland. The brief will report that according to intel, there is an unauthorized research facility hidden within the premises. Outsiders are to locate it, storm it, and seize any lab specimens they can find.

To get to the theme park, characters will be able to take trains to the edge of Neo Tokyo where they can then be transported by armored trucks through what remains of old roads. Eventually, when the terrain becomes too destroyed and overgrown with brush, they’ll have to travel by foot the rest of the way. However, they will have to be careful because it looks like someone has laid out traps. Some of them are designed to capture animals but others are clearly booby traps meant to deter intruders.

From the outside, nothing looks out of the ordinary in this old park - there are classic attractions such as Cinderella’s castle, the Haunted Mansion, Alice’s Teacup ride, the Western River Railroad, and many, many more. While most of the rides are weathered down and no longer functional, there are plenty of old gift shops and carnival game booths with prizes to take home for free (if you don’t mind a really old Minnie Mouse doll).

LILITH was not able to pinpoint exactly where this secret laboratory is hidden within the enormous park, and it’s now up to the Outsiders to find it. All implants will be fitted with a heat-seeking function to allow Outsiders to detect anomalies within the park.

The first part of the mission is simple: Scour the rides and attractions and find the entrance.

Outsiders may encounter more booby traps while searching the park. Traps will range from making parts of attractions and buildings collapse on intruders to more elaborate and high-tech ones like electric fields or explosive traps. Players are more than welcome to come up with their own traps so long as it fits the setting.

▶ 002. BOO WHO?

Eventually, Outsiders will find themselves drawn to the Haunted Mansion, where there appear to be several abnormal signs of life. While the mansion would hardly have been scary to anyone but children several hundred years ago, centuries without any sort of maintenance have turned the place into a real nightmare. Pitch darkness, decrepit fake graves that look like they could be real ones, and the mysterious chatter of – is that a ghost? There are flickers of life within the old animatronics, and ever so often you might see a skeleton or zombie twitch. They might even take a swing at an unsuspecting Outsider.

The deeper into the mansion you travel, the more power it appears to have, until the Outsiders reach a door that appears to be heavily guarded by a group of humans holding vicious chimeras on a leash.

Once LILITH receives this intel, the next order is given: Storm the lab immediately!

▶ 003. LET'S GECK-GO!

As the Outsiders infiltrate the lab, the air buzzes with electricity and everyone's hair begins to stand on end not from fear but from the sheer amount of energy generated. There may be a lot of machines generating a lot of power and some of it may be spilling excess electricity into the air but this feels different. It feels more potent.

Suddenly, the park comes to life. Old generators buzz to life, staticky music begins to play on the worn out speakers, and the lights begin to flash. From the overgrowth surrounding the park, trees begin to topple over. It is obvious that something is approaching and whatever it is seems to have a lot of energy. From the trees, a giant, gecko-like creature emerges. The air around it sparks and each step it takes generates a wave of electricity that follows the many wires and systems laid out underground.

The energy at the park seems to be drawing the unknown kaiju towards the park and more geckos appear from the forests behind it. They move quickly through the park and climb over the buildings and attractions. When they see a hybrid or a person nearby, they will stun them with their electric fields and try to eat them. As they begin to swarm the park, they go into a feeding frenzy that infects the air around them. Rides begin to spin faster, the music grows louder, lights explode, and the more electricity and power the geckos absorb, the bigger they become when they shed their skins.

One gecko in particular grows faster than the others. This one will keep growing with no apparent end in sight and begins climbing over the highest rides until they topple under its weight. Outsiders will have to avoid collapsing rubble and climb over ruined attractions to take down this kaiju while also stopping the other geckos from growing to the same size.

After dealing with the gecko kaiju for some time without any information, a report will finally come in:

NAME: Yamadenki
HEIGHT: 3 metres- unknown (does not stop growing)
WEIGHT: 1,500-70,000 kg
CLASS: Dangerous
LOCATION: Kanto, Japan
ABILITIES: Stores electricity within its body. Uses static electricity to climb up and stick to objects. Can use electric shocks to stun and injure prey. The more energy they absorb, the bigger they grow. When close enough to a human, it kills them by biting into their flesh and absorbing the electrical currents within the cells, disrupting the heart rate and nervous system. It then eats the flesh.
WEAKNESS: Attacks to the head and body. Ice and extreme cold (they are cold blooded).
EXTRA NOTES: Can regrow appendages. Their severed appendages and bodies can retain electricity for an unknown amount of time so proceed with caution.

✖ Cut off the supply of electricity at the park by disabling all generators
✖ Bring back the Yamadenki (alive or dead) for research purposes
✖ Bring back the hybrid specimens
✖ Capture all suspicious persons for interrogation

The Outsiders will have to cut off all energy supplies to stop feeding the newly named Yamadenki and then defeat them.

▶ 004. A RIFT IN SPACE-TIME

"MAYDAY, MAYDAY! Unknown energy signal detected! Reaching maximum output! Our sensors are detecting a breach in the inter-dimensional fabric!"

An hour into battle, Outsiders will receive a sudden warning signal, urging them to complete their mission and eliminate the Yamadenki before it’s too late. All that concentrated energy generated at the park is being corrupted by the Yamadenki, and it’s not long before a rift bursts through from beneath the Haunted Mansion, causing a huge explosion and a rain of rubble and mysterious energy. It’s the first of its kind. A rift has never opened this close to Neo Tokyo!

Energy from the rift seems to affect anyone standing too close to it, transforming any unprotected human into a snarling, groaning, human-reptilian hybrid. These hybrids have electrical qualities similar to the Yamadenki and are just as ferocious. The plugsuits issued by LILITH should protect characters against any nasty transformations (unless there is some damage to them or they have taken them off), but exposure to the rift can still result in increased headaches, vertigo, irritability and impulsiveness.

The rift is growing larger by the minute, and from the other side of it - the growling of a number of unknown beasts can be heard. Even the higher ups within LILITH are anxious about this. The only way to stop the rift is to cut off its power supply.

"Angels of LILITH! We must act fast! Disable all generators and subdue the Kaiju before it’s too late!"

▶ 005. AFTERMATH.

As the Outsiders shut down generators and take down the Yamadenki, the rift shrinks in size until finally it closes. Everything at the park goes still now that there is no more power to run things. Some of the corrupted humans and hybrids still linger and will have to be taken down or captured but they are in weakened states now that the rift has closed.

Outsiders will be tasked with capturing the Rift-infected humans who will then be transported to LILITH base for treatment... if they can be treated, that is. Outsiders will also need to report for treatment. Characters may experience the lingering effects of the rift such as the vertigo, headaches, shorter tempers, and impulsive behavior. The LILITH medics aren’t sure what to do other than prescribing bed rest and maybe offering some medication for their headaches. The worst cases may be prescribed sedatives.

Normally, LILITH would order the Outsiders to retrieve specimens from the field but given the events that unfolded, they are told to standby until a special research unit can inspect the area for contamination and give the all clear.

▶ 006. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our second Kaiju log! As before, all prompts are highly encouraged but OOCly optional. ICly, any characters suffering negative effects from the rift will recover within a week, though you are welcome to determine the severity of their symptoms during that time.

Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the smaller kaijus. The main fight with the largest gecko will be determined via a HP-based system (See below).

[ It's the very first time in her long existence that she's received a headpat... So that's what it feels like, huh? But not just a mere headpat! No, it came together with a compliment about her efforts! T-That's so much for her poor little heart to take in! That's too much happiness at once, she can't handle it. She has a very strict daily quota of happiness she's capable of taking in, and he's broken it!

Especially when they're fighting those creatures and she'd been totally unprepared for this. It's not his fault of course... M-Maybe she should train to increase her daily quota now that she has access to the surface world. ]

R-Ri... R... [Blinks blinks.] R-Right...

[ ... The kaiju has grown in size once more. Right, it's about time for her to transform into her skeletal form! And she does it immediately, with a warning for him and everyone else to stand back before she transforms.

That's excellent timing, nobody can see how embarrassed she is while in this form. ]

[ instead of happiness, he definitely took it as displeasure, maybe. but, yuwon also wasn't the type to be affected by how other people react— for better or worse. so he doesn't seem to think on it beyond that. instead, he focuses in on their next course of action. despite her stuttering, it's clear her mind was still set on the battle, and so he also dials his concentration back to the kaiju.

the yamadenki has grown once more, likely having eaten up another sliver of whatever the generators at this abandoned park can offer. but, what captures his attention more than the lizard-like creature that stands before him is the skeletal form that greets him on the opposite side.

so this was the power of the goddess of the underworld? or so he seems to think. but, while this thought remains in his head, he also readies himself. his arm swelling with the power of the giants as he readies his sword. ] I'll follow your movements.

[ Oh, he expects her to lead the assault...? Well that's fine. She's actually very comfortable in that role. More so if he is capable of following her movements and doesn't have to speak aloud. For all of her anxiety and problems, she is still a queen. One who has kept the Underworld orderly and safe since times immemorial. ]

The weaker ones cannot grow further. We need focus on the leader.

[ Her voice is surprisingly deep and grave when she speaks.

Why- The best thing about this transformation is that as emotionally-distressed as she still is, he cannot see it. No, all he'll see is a cool(?) and badass(??) gigantic skeleton! With a very impressive veil attached to her crown, that gives a really cool with her every move.

Regardless, she aims her gigantic spear at the big one. She knows she's not powerful enough in this world to one-hit kill him, but hopefully she'll do some damage. And not miss. ]

[ listen, she just seemed... bigger. he got the inkling it was probably more for effective for him to match her than the other way around. besides, if he were being completely honest, he genuinely wanted to see her abilities in action.

he knew very little of his own necromancy, and even far less about the source of his abilities, how he was rewarded them, and the connected to the pure divine crystal attached to his gloved hand. he seems to peer at it momentarily, as if expecting a reaction. (unfortunately) there is none, but when she speaks, he gives a curt nod. just like that, he refocuses his gaze on the largest yamadenki. when she goes in, her giant spear going straight in for the hit.

when she goes in, he also prepares himself, with his arm already imbued with additional strength, he also goes in for an attack. ] Fuck. [ his attack misses if just because the tip of his sword and arm are hit with a spark of electricity, but he seems to follow it up with with a blast of mana, and then he activates his sky step, if just to create some distance between himself and the kaiju. ] I'll have to try again.

[ Ereshkigal would have sympathized with him for missing and encouraged him to do better... If she hadn't proceeded to miss as well! As undignified as this "f-word" is, she wishes she could use it right now! ]

H-Huh...? [Are you kidding her? What the heck! How is it possible she missed something that big? Especially when her spear is just as big and driven by divine energy? Are the forces that control this world trying to humiliate her?!] W-Wait, this time I'll get it!

[ Okay, another try. If they coordinate their movements, they can hit it this time. She summons back the spear to herself- ]

We'll get it!

[ And off it goes, striking right in the center of the beast this time! ]

[ the fact that they both missed. he almost has to marvel at how slippery such a large creature was being, or maybe it's clear they had approached with over confidence, clearly not believing in the possibility for this mishap. after he misses, he's more concentrated on making sure he's not within a dangerous distance to the creature, his feet already moving to provide her some assistance.

instead, of using his sword and sandwiching the creature in their attacks, he takes a different approach, this time, just covering the area in his mana and allowing the flames to latch onto the creature. while its weakness is ice, he presumes even a bit of discomfort for the creature could create its opening.

he acts almost as a decoy, riling up the creature with his mana so at least ereshkigal could get her hit in firmly this time.

if she does succeed, only then will he try and get his own hit in. ]

[ And...

... ... ... ...

It hits!! Have you ever see a giant semi-skeleton sparkle and smile brightly? Well if he hadn't before, now he has! It may bring about some tonal whiplash, of course. Something that ugly and scary shouldn't be that overjoyed. It's like if during Halloween you had the ghosts start sparkling and singing... ]

Yay, it hit!

[ Now it's her turn to help him! Thankfully, with that blow the creature has gotten slower. There is no way in the underworld he'll miss this time. Right? ]

[ ...

that's definitely new.

his expression falters momentarily, even in the midst of the chaos of battle. he clears his throat briefly, before he jumps in and tries to slash the lizard, thankfully, it does brush against the yamadenki, but even he feels how shallow the contact is before he pulls back.

instead, a smaller yamadenki hops into his blind side and with his sensory field, he turns his head at the last second before impaling it. then another crops up, perhaps, knowing that their larger counterpart was shaken by ereshkigal's attack, they seem firm on keeping away any follow-up attacks.

he releases a small exhale. ] Looks like I missed my chance, but you're good to continue. I'll hold these ones back. [ he rolls his shoulders, as if getting ready to dive back in. it's the least he could do in a situation like this. ]

[ W-W-What the heck?! They don't let him attack again? It's like his luck stat is even worse than hers! Could it be that the uncanny shininess of her skeletal form put those smaller kaijus into a frenzy? N-No, surely not! At least, he should be safe dealing with them.

On her end though she should turn back now. She's severely overestimated how long this transformation can be maintained. LILITH has put a far more restrictive lock on her powers than she had expected. Or perhaps it's due to the lack of a Master and the mana they can provide her.

Unfortunately, before she can do that the kaiju takes advantage of the goddess' weakened state and Yuwon's focus on the smaller ones to strike at her before she can transform back and retreat. She puts her spear between herself and the kaiju to block it, but-- ]

....... Hng!

[ With its tail, the beast manage to pierce at the goddess' abdomen and sends her flying. The giant skeleton crashes against a nearby ruined building, causing its walls to crumble as Ereshkigal turns back into her human form and slides off the wall unceremoniously. ]

[ the geckos were irksome in how they operated; perhaps, if there is anything he gathers from the behaviors of the kaiju, it's precisely that they knew how to increase the longevity of their species. they're a lot more intelligent than he initial suspects, and despite no spoken words being utilized, he can tell they moved with a certain level of practiced unison. reading the lines of ones another's behavior, and reacting as a result.

he lops the head off one, before trying to melt into its flesh with his mana blast, his demonic energy seeped into each blow to create an even more destructive force. he was cautious about over-exerting his mana, but he barely has time to think of it, before his peripherals focus back on ereshkigal who...

appeared to be having some sort of issue? when her skeletal form crashes, he clears his immediate horde before bolting towards her. he leans beside her, speaking to her as he places a hand on her face, lightly patting it. mostly just confirming she was still good and conscious. ... did goddesses of the underworld have a pulse? whatever, he supposes that wasn't the real concern here. ] Can you move? [ if not, he guesses he might have to carry her. ]

[ There is a pulse. Her skin is cold as a corpse, but that's nothing new. It's the norm for her. More worryingly though, there is blood pooling under her and a wound in her stomach that would have been fatal, had it been anyone else. And considering how she can't even muster enough energy to look up at him, it may just be fatal for her as well. ]

I-I underestimated... How-How frail this form is.

[ Not only that, but her powers have been nerfed and she's fighting in the realm of the living... How foolish of her, she should have anticipated this. She should have been more careful. But she wasn't. A goddess who can't even defend humans, who doesn't fulfill her mission... doesn't deserve to exist. ]

I'm sorry...

[ in moments like these he can definitely see the use of support skills. considering his lack of any abilities pertaining to healing or cures, the best he can offer is common first aid. the plug suits on their bodies don't give a whole lot of material to work with, but he uses his sword to try and cut some of the fabric off. with that, he holds it out towards her, placing a careful hand on her shoulder as if to encourage her to shift her body slightly, if just to make it easier to wrap her wound.

there's a small pause as he seems to ask if it's okay to reach beneath her, but he doesn't wait for any real response, either.

he figures it would be more effective to continue, but he comprehends everyone's threshold to receiving help is different, even if he'd definitely spark up a rebuttal or two. he presumes as a goddess, she likely had some sort of protection against damages, but he also wants to avoid making risky assumptions. he's been silent so far, but he finally does say: ] Anything can happen. It's not your fault. [ it's more of a fact than anything actually comforting...

unfortunately, providing that wasn't in his list of proficiencies. but, really, he considers it just as much his error, as well. when he reflects back on it, he could have use his heavenly demonic spirit, or any number of other skills, if he wasn't thinking about running through his mana. ]

Can I continue?

[ is it too late to ask? but, he figures before he moves her body too much, it'd be best to figure that out. ]

[ What is he doing? Is he trying to help her? Save her? That sort of wound would be nothing if she was in her original body, but in a human vessel with her powers so greatly diminished and restricted... That's not something she can survive. Maybe it is something that can be healed.

But should it?

A goddess who cannot accomplish such simple duties truly has no right to exist. Normally she wouldn't allow such thoughts to worm their way into her mind, but... That's just a shameful display. ]

You should go... [She closes her eyes.] T-There is no point in rescuing a goddess who cannot even protect humanity...

[ It was her arrogance that led to this wound. Her mistakes shouldn't put him in danger. ]

[ her statement gets the same expression he always wears, except the corner of his lips do move to frown. he's never heard of a goddess being this... fragile. it's a moment of fragility that he doesn't consider physical as much as it's emotional? sincere, and overly hones? it's a depth of feelings he doesn't exactly expect from the injured. he supposed maybe the attack bruised her sense of pride and self more than it did her body.

still, tending to her wound was still a top priority.

whether she likes it or not, he wraps the cloth over her, lifting her body and holding it up with his forearm as he works. he leans in, tying the cloth over itself and using his teeth to tighten it. after wiping his lips of some of the blood blood that was on the piece of material from his plugsuit.... ] Shut up and let's go.

[ it's a blunt statement that probably doesn't spare much of her feelings, but he wasn't focused on that now. instead, he lifts her up in his arms. ]

[ H-He's trying to save her in spite in spite of her objections. And he seems to be pretty good at it... Like he's had experience with bandaging people before. But why? Does he see good in her in spite of her failures? Or maybe he's the kind who will save everyone in spite of what they are.

With that blood loss, she's way too out of it to think about it. Let alone do anything about it. She will have to thank him later.

[ The goddess passes out. Kinda. She's still conscious, but 90% unresponsive.

That's too many emotions at once! The shame and guilt at having failed such a simple mission. The happiness to see he's trying to save her in spite of this all...! And then the confusion and shame again at being told to shut up, even as she's on the verge of death!

How is she supposed to deal with all those emotions while barely clinging onto life?

She's not, so her brain has decided. ]

[ he's not sure how he was supposed to interpret her previous response, or her sudden and distinct lack of it in the present. however, he supposed the one silver lining to the situation is that she had no rebuttal for him, nor did she appear to be countering his movements. she's... mostly just silent. for a minute, he checks back to her, his eyes still scanning to see the clear signs of life; the rise and fall of one's chest, or even the sound of a heartbeat.

he confirms she's okay, and with that, he just carries onwards. he keeps his arms surprisingly still if just not to disturb her positioning. with that, he carries on wordlessly for the most part. when they get a bit closer to where they've temporarily stationed up a medical bay, he does eventually open his mouth. ]

We're almost there. [ he wants to add something like "i'm surprised you wanted to left there in this condition." but, he decides not to. she clearly has a lot on her mind. besides, he figures if she did have a certain constitution at home, she's probably equally surprised...

a rare show of consideration for once. (even if he told her to shut up...) ]

[ She'll be surprised too once she feels better. While she's always had those unpleasant feelings, usually she's pretty good at keeping them under wrap. It's especially easy when she's her anxiety gets the better of her, when she's focused on her duties or when she gets really surprised or excited about something.

Not so much when she's so badly wounded she can barely do anything any more. She keeps her eyes closed, though she manages to utter something when they arrive. ]

... Thank you.

[ She will have to properly thank him later... When she can do more than barely hang on. She can't even appreciate how romantic being carried like that is! That's what a sorry state she's in. ]
