Dearka asks, and Yzak is already casting his gaze from the door they just came through, to the one on the opposite end of the room. The hand he has braced on the edge of the bed squeezes the unimpressively thin mattress, and then he pushes himself back straight up to his feet. What is their next move here? Even with the information dump they just got, there's still a hell of a lot of unknown all around and ahead of them. So right now... ]

The others who were just dragged here are probably just as pissed off about this as we are now! We should find out how many of us there are. Come on.

[ Swinging right back into it, Yzak makes for that latter door. ]

More importantly, it sounds like this has been going on for some time, so those who have been here longer, they probably have more useful information than what we're being fed. This stuff is useful, but I'd rather hear from someone in the same situation we're in than the ones who are forcing us all into it.

[ And it's obvious enough as to why. There's a tenseness in Yzak's expression as he reluctantly checks his device again - he's going to hate the process of having to get used to this.

Mumbled: ] Team Revelation. That's something else we need to look into; what each team has been assembled to do. Where were you assigned, Dearka?

[ If he's looking for someone to acknowledge his predicament, Nyuu is definitely the wrong person to ask. She's all smiles watching the cats investigate him. ]

Aww, they like you! [ And there she goes, giggling at his suffering. ] It's common for them to get shy and run away at a new face.

I have! [ But he sounds Unsure, like he needs to really recall it. ] It's just ... also been a very long time, and I'm busy!

[ The reality: he IS busy, and even though he does get time for leisure, even that remains in a small circle (yzak has like 3 friends tops).

[ It meows up at him again, demanding MORE ATTENTION THAN THAT. It hops up to the cat tree near the entrance where a second cat is leaning forward to check Yzak out. He sighs softly to himself, and then puts a hand out, immediately headbutted with affection. ]

[ He puts his hand out to the tree-cat, who proceeds to sniff it a couple of times and then softly bump its head against the back of it.

So they know at least how to identify rifts. [ He nods, more to himself, committing that to memory. ] That's promising.

It shouldn't be difficult to learn more then - at least, it doesn't seem that way considering they possess the ability to yank us straight out of where we come from.

As for the surgeries ... I guess I can understand saving them for injuries, and so long as someone knows this before they agree to having something done.

But it's also my understanding that some surgeries are so one can perform better in battle. In order to ensure they can be properly ready and healed for that, I do hope they make some exceptions.

Which is why I'm willing to play nice ... for now. But I'd like more answers and a bit more effort on their end, at least where our voices and ideas are being heard and not just ignored.

I was a soldier before I gained command of my own team, and some of the leadership I used to be under was ... questionable. Which is why I do right by my own team, now. I don't want to feel the way I felt back then, even if back then I didn't always realize just how little was thought of me.

[Dearka pauses to double check his assignment as well. It is extremely impressive technology. It'd be pretty exciting to mess around with, if only he'd, you know, actually consented to having it implanted in the first place??? His purple eyes light up, and they flit back and forth as he reads through the on-screen text that only he can see.]

That's a relief, being assigned to the same team. [ And honestly Yzak wouldn't have it any other way.

Not to mention ... they're still so new here that Yzak doesn't know what the deal is with the teams thing. What if they were somehow pitted against one another? That's where his mind goes when he thinks and speculates, so the relief is that much more powerful because he doesn't want to consider a situation where he and Dearka stand on opposite sides of anything. ]

And our ... weapons are in DISPATCH? We're to be escorted there to confirm our ownership of them. [ All spoken like a question, because when they say 'weapons' ... well, there are a few things that could mean. ]

My sentiment exactly. It is inefficient allocation of my talents, and quite frankly, I am disappointed with them.

Nevertheless, this is the task I have been assigned, and they have not been swayed by my arguments. At the very least, I will gain first-hand experience of the crisis plaguing this planet. That, too, is valuable information.

[Yzak do you want to swap so that you're number 001. Because Dearka would probably let you. He doesn't give a shit.

He's still fiddling with the Occular, pulling up a few search inquiries related to the teams and skimming through some explanations with the typical speed reading nonsense one would expect from a coordinator.]

Seems like the teams are largely for organizational and operational purposes. [He turns the Occular off and smirks.] But you're right: at least they're smart enough to know not to separate us. Guess we should go see if they're smart enough to equip us properly, too.

There are many of us here now that have undergone the surgery to receive the healing upgrade. If someone gets injured, through surgery or otherwise, there are plenty of us who can help now.

I am one of those people. You can always find me if you or someone you know is hurt.

[Considering the rest, well...]

I think... perhaps their technology is good, but their resources are not. And they are saving what they have for the most important things, which is stopping kaiju. We have experienced things like heat and power outages. Supplies can be limited.

I guess. But I'm not from a world with all this technology. Did they really pick me because the best I can do is support others in battle?

[Or moral support. Maybe they care about emotional well-being in the far future.]

I just wish I could do more.

[ He knows it's ... technological? Yet he's been here and heard about those who can use magic and that's still something he's wrapping his mind around. So this advanced a way for others to heal so easily ... still kind of throws him for a loop. ]

If they truly are so strapped, the pain of a surgery like that for the sake to alleviate it and other injuries for others on the team to make up for that lack ... could be worth it.

[ Thanks for putting that in a way that gets Yzak to consider going through something like that for a greater good, which is something he obviously is all about, being a soldier. ]

I'm curious, though. How complicated is the process for that surgery?

Supporting others is plenty. If everyone had the same parts, you couldn't make a properly functional machine, right? It's the same concept, only we obviously shouldn't look at ourselves like a machine.

[ He stares at Tary for a long moment. ]

The fact that you wish to do more is enough, at least. Until we're given the proper opportunity to do as much.

The battlefield is crazy enough. I don't want my attention split between what I need to be doing and looking out for those who shouldn't be out there nor want to be. That would just put us both, and thus all of us, in more danger.

[ He lets out a small, frustrated noise, running his hand through his hair. ] What a great situation this is sounds like it's going to be...

[Civilians don't even need to be aware it's occurring, as just Raidou's touch will start to activate it.]

The surgery involves something called nanobots being injected into you. Through the base of your skull. They also insert something into your pancreas. It's... bad. [Strong words from him.] Normally I'd say it would take a week to recover, but I am very lucky in that someone else who had gone through the procedure was able to help me.

[ Nyuu's trying so hard. It's so, so, so very hard not to collapse into a fit of giggles seeing him with the cats. Convincing him to come in was a good call! ]

[ She retreats to pick up two things. The first is a small cat with tortoiseshell fur who fits nice and snugly into her arm without any complaint. The other is the menu, laminated so as to better endure the cafe's goings-on. Nyuu walks back over with both and holds the menu out first while the cat ragdolls in her arm, apparently content with viewing the cafe from upside-down. ]

This is Sumomo! She's barely a year old, so she still acts like a baby.

[A shrug from Taryon. Yzak could be just trying to be nice, but there's no need to call that out. Taryon has enough experience to know that he can't catch up to the heaviest hitters, not if he doesn't train for years.]

[ He's a little annoyed to be treated like a liability, but he's well aware of his own capabilities. To a more skilled combatant, he would indeed be a concern. ]

You do not need to concern yourself with me. I am more than capable of keeping myself out of harm's way. I am not foolish enough to place myself in a position that will compromise your ability to fight.

[As if lured by the mention of treats, a third cat joins the duo already on the cat tree. This prompts Ren to give Yzak a look, eyebrows raised.]

[ He takes the menu, giving it a look over. He wants to have some tea himself, being A Tea Guy, but an idea of what the menu has to offer will help him consider what he'll be having to deal with if he ends up looking for something to make some money on the side.

He can't deny though, softness of the cat aside, the scent of tea brewing and whatever pastries being made enveloping this place is very inviting. ]

[ He peers at the floppy kitty in Nyuu's arms, refusing to admit that that's really fucking cute ... these cats are really having the time of their lives being here, huh...? ]

Like a baby? Aren't cats considered adults by the time they're around one? I know enough about them to know that they mature quickly.

Nanomachinery is a concept I'm familiar with. Though not to that extent...

[ The face Yzak makes is clear that he doesn't like even considering going through that sort of bullshit if it's painful. But... ]

A week ... perhaps less if I ever considered something like that. My people are genetically enhanced so recovery is a bit easier for us, so that on top of help would be optimal.

But I currently have no wish to do something like that. At least not before I get a firsthand idea of how these missions are going to go. And I'm already not happy with the way these guys fucked with us [ He motions to his eyes. ] without our having any say in it!

[ Again she giggles, as if she's been waiting for someone to ask that exact question. She's learned a lot about cats since working here, and Yzak gets to be the recipient of all this knowledge she's had nowhere else to place. ]

That's the funny part! So, I learned from Boss here that, it's so funny... [ She holds up Sumomo closer to her face, and the lazy cat just flops onto her shoulder as if to say "oh, higher? That's fine" like a human baby being held against her shoulder. ] So, it turns out that cats only meow to their babies, and the kittens only meow back to their moms, right? But cats also meow at us and depend on us to feed them, so pet cats are basically kittens for their whole life!

Good. It'd be nice to feel like we have a little cohesion, since right now it sounds like run-ins with kaiju have been messy in that regard.

Messy ... but at least successful. [ Said with less edge than he was just using acting like mister big commander 'we need more organization and less people who aren't actual fighters being shoved out there' man. But that notion in him is exactly because of how much he's seen go to shit before and how easy someone can lose a life out there. ] I'm glad for that much, for everyone.

If you are so concerned, perhaps you ought to host combat practice of some sort to familiarize yourself with the capabilities of the individuals on base. That will be valuable information for all of us.

[ He's not being sarcastic when he says this. It is a genuine suggestion, because he wants to know too. He is however, very unfamiliar with what is necessary for such practice. ]
