KAIJU FIGHT #3
KAIJU FIGHT #3
▶ 001. POSITIVE THINKING.
The aftermath of the last kaiju battle, has had LILITH researchers scrambling to find an adequate way to combat the aftereffects of the kaiju discovered in the desert. While their research is still very much a work in progress, for now… it’ll have to do. In the early hours of the morning, a message will appear on everyone’s oculars, asking them to suit up immediately and meet at the given coordinates, which will act as the Outsiders rendezvous point. These coordinates lead to an abandoned hotel within 1 mile to the outskirts of the strip.

A new update awaits each Outsider on their oculars. There is no option to decline, and right away it prompts you through several steps. This update was all in part thanks to the various dreams that the oculars have been reacting to. The researchers for LILITH figured out a way to combat these pesky mental side effects by forcing the mind into a state of equilibrium. In order to do this, Outsiders will be asked to think of their happiest memories. Perhaps, due in part to everyone downloading this update at the same time, people will automatically feel an odd sensation as they think back on these memories, almost as if their mind is connected to a collective. These memories will leave each Outsider feeling fulfilled, or even a temporary sense of high as the download continues. As a result, Outsiders may feel giddy or a sense of calm. Some may be motivated to talk about their happy memories with others the first time they do this.

▶ 002. BREACH OF THE CITY.
Once the download is completed, there’s zero time to rest. It looks like whatever they found in the desert isn’t interested in just sitting and waiting. They’ve come to the city with clear intentions of gradually infiltrating its borders. Who are they? Why, the missing people of course.
Apparently, as part of the kaijus life cycle, it lays eggs, which then hatch into younger worms, similar to actual earthworms. These young worms, unable to protect themselves, control the minds of other living entities in order to do their bidding and keep their own bodies safe. Once infected, their hosts become vicious and hungry for meat, attacking any living thing in sight and trying to eat its flesh to nourish the parasite within.
It’ll be up to the Outsiders in order to scope out these young worms controlling the people of the desert, while simultaneously knocking those individuals out of commission. In some rare circumstances, there will be no turning back for these individuals; if the young worm actually burrows themselves into the bodies of the controlled, they are no more than a reanimated corpse, and will need to be eliminated immediately. The longer these worms exist within these people’s bodies, the larger they grow, and by extension, the more influence they can exert over a larger net of people.
Instead of the camper vans, LILITH has provided other sleeker vehicles in order to quickly traverse the city. The vehicles are equipped for speed and are meant to assist in getting to the various coordinates LILITH sends out to everyone’s oculars. The coordinates all mark where these “controlled people” have been seen via drone footage.

▶ 003. WORM ON THE MIND.
While the attention will be focused on destroying the monsters that have come up to the city, there will be occasional tremors that can be felt that seem to come from far below— almost as if they were cries from the old city that lay forgotten below. Unfortunately, it’s much worse.
In the middle of staving off the attacks from the mysterious creatures, there will suddenly be the sound of the defense alarm blaring, and without any additional warning, something breaks through the center of the city. This will first be punctuated by the sounds of the building around them crumbling, followed by the clear visual of the large serpentine creature they’ve encountered in the desert. The large sand worm doesn’t even pause to regain its bearings. As soon as it recognizes the presence of other organisms, it begins glowing a fluorescent shade in varying indefinable colors—
Thanks to the updates on the oculars, there will no longer be hallucinations that follow any contact with the worm, however, if one stares too long, they will still be met with splitting headaches and a pressing sense of agitation, so Outsiders are cautioned against prolonged exposure. That said, it won’t always be easy to take a breather against such a large creature.

A brief is sent along with her message.
Note: Roles can be decided by the characters themselves as to what they figure is appropriate and most fitted to their skill set. Everyone will eventually fight the worm (so this does not affect the fight mechanics of the worm itself) and people can also jump from one role to another.

█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: ALITTA VIRENS
HEIGHT: 400 metres
WEIGHT: 1,900,000 kg
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: Las Vegas, USA
ABILITIES: Mind control. Although full details are UNKNOWN, its young can take control of human and animal hosts. Once under their control, the hosts will become aggressive and hungry for meat, which is theorized to feed and nourish the young worms until they are ready to emerge.
EXTRA NOTES: According to what the researchers have surmised, similar kaiju have appeared on a much smaller scale and are susceptible to water poisoning and electrical shocks. LILITH has not found a way to fully free the hosts from the parasite, but they can be stunned after receiving multiple electric shocks.
"
YAMAKAWA: Angels of LILITH, please be advised of your roles moving forward. With the city already infiltrated, we will need to be quick."
YAMAKAWA: Angels of LILITH, please be advised of your roles moving forward. With the city already infiltrated, we will need to be quick."
A brief is sent along with her message.
█ █ █ MISSION ROLES:
✖ GROUP ONE: Those who fulfill this role will need to be equipped with brute strength and the ability to survive the attacks in a city that is the midst of being destroyed. They will also need the stamina to keep the worm at bay as the others complete their tasks before also gathering to exterminate the kaiju.
✖ GROUP TWO: With strong mental fortitude, these individuals will be expected to clean up the group of controlled individuals; not all will be able to be saved, and the ability to make that distinction is imperative for this role. Those who appear too far gone will not be able to regain their senses. They will need to be killed.
✖ GROUP THREE: This group will be concentrated on being able to property evacuate the citizens that remain in the city of Las Vegas. Preferably those who are quick on their feet, or are able to stealthily circumvent the dangers in the city in order to get the people to safety would be ideal for this role.
✖ GROUP FOUR: Those with support skills or a medical background will be expected to assist those in the other groups, whether by healing, additional abilities, or by assisting the other groups as needed.
Note: Roles can be decided by the characters themselves as to what they figure is appropriate and most fitted to their skill set. Everyone will eventually fight the worm (so this does not affect the fight mechanics of the worm itself) and people can also jump from one role to another.
▶ 004. LET'S WRAP UP.
The areas the worm has traversed leaves the ground above it weak and unsteady. Due in part to this, those who have evacuated will need to remain in the shelter until further notice. As a result, it’s up to the Outsiders to clean up the city. Aside from the large gaping hole in the center of the city that they can’t address immediately, they are first expected to get rid of the carcasses of the larvae.
Each Outsider will be provided with a suit and will even be given hover packs to scale down the side of these large holes. They will also be given traditional ropes and lines for those who want to get creative with scaling, or who simply didn’t make it there quickly enough to grab a hover pack (with the destruction to the city, some supplies are still in transit). They will be expected to review each carcass and tag which ones can be sent to the lab for further review, and which should simply be discarded as being unusable.
A coordinated effort is needed to adequately dispose of the largest kaiju. The alitta virens will need to be cut into several thousands of pieces, and so work needs to begin immediately. It’s not like the people can return to everyday life with a giant serpent-like entity laying on top of their city. Outsiders should be particularly cautious with it; even when dead, as it still seems to have strange tendrils inside of its body that appear to be writhing even after its death.

EVENT BREAKDOWN (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. POSITIVE THINKING: LILITH has updated everyone's implants and encourage them to think of their happiest thoughts to give the technology the mental boost they need. Some characters may feel high or giddy and want to express their happy memories to someone else.
2. BREACH OF THE CITY: The worm larvae have a parasitic nature and are taking over the bodies of civilians. Outsiders are tasks to seek out those affected, killing worm larvae or civilians with parasites who are beyond help.
3. WORM ON THE MIND: The largest worm breaks through the ground in the heart of the city and Outsiders are encouraged to attack within their arranged group.
4. LET'S WRAP UP: After the sandworm monster is killed, Outsiders will be tasked with clean up efforts.

Professor! Or, well, Doctor! [ for now. he's got a doctorate but he'll still always be professor when he's tutoring her. ] It's nice to see you well. You said you were helping take care of wounds and all? I've... it isn't life threatening, but I'll be the first to admit that I've been letting my guard down.
[ distracted more like, but. it's fine. she doesn't want to-- she can self-heal, but she doesn't want to... do that. she can't let the Abnormality do what it wants. ]
Oh, but my clumsy self is my own worst enemy -- I think I knocked my head pretty hard a bit ago. Maybe I could help you for a little bit?

Malkuth. [ A greeting. ] Let us attend to your injuries first before we determine if you are in any state to assist me. Can you stand?
no subject
[ standing isn't... out of the realm of possibility. there's some damage to her suit and hands, but otherwise doesn't seem too bad.
until she does try to stand and nearly stumbles as a wave of vertigo hits her, hand reaching for ratio's shoulder to steady herself. head, maybe her ankle from how she's favoring it too, and scrapes. that's all. ]

Hey, doc! Thanks for the map~ You said you want updates, right?
[She sends a picture of the same map Ratio provided, but she put marks on some routes with Xs to show where collapses happened. There is a small dot on the map to show her current location, a good distance from a shelter.]
I was able to find a detour and get folks to the shelter, but these roads became dead ends. What do you think? [A pause as she looks at the map again.] It would be bad if a shelter gets blocked off from access.
[While it's fine so far, it's still a possibility.]
no subject
You are correct. I foresee one of the shelters becoming inaccessible within the hour.
[ If it's building debris, he's certain he can find someone with the capability to clear it, but if it's a sinkhole, that can only be routed around. He ponders for a moment before marking the map with a few symbols and sending it back to Rodya.
The symbols are all concentrated around a specific shelter—likely the one he fears will be made inaccessible. ]
I need to know if it is due to building debris or a sinkhole that these areas are untraversable. If it is debris, I will need photos to determine the safest way to remove the obstacles.
no subject
[She starts to go on the move to check the paths Ratio marked, on guard in case she gets attacked by any poor souls that got possessed by the worms that went off path or anything else squirming around. That specific shelter is not far off, but she also doesn't like the idea of it being inaccessible. Something could happen inside and with no way to escape... It's a sour thought.]
Do you know someone that can clear debris quickly while the chaos is going on? Time isn't on our side so if the mess is huge, I don't think we should waste time with it. [She lets out a small "oo" that sounds unpleasant once she arrived at one of the points Ratio marked.] Yeah, this is bad. This spot is only gonna get worse, huh?
[She sends a picture over and a circle on where she is at on the map. A debris pile blocking off some alleyways and while it's a reasonable size right now, the conditions of the buildings nearby don't make it any better. It might only become bigger as time goes on.]
Small piles I can climb or fly over myself, but I ain't going to leave folks behind if I got them following me. Plus they might not be as capable like I am. [Unless she doesn't have a choice, but another sour thought that she silences. Stay focus, girl.]
no subject
I know of a few individuals who have the capability to handle these obstacles. It will only take two precisely placed explosions to rearrange the debris into something more navigable.
[ He's been keeping notes on everyone's abilities, information obtained through conversation, eavesdropping, or observation. And now, with a full scale battle going on, he's gaining an even better idea each Outsider's skillset. It will be handy for future missions. ]
You need not be concerned. I have devised evacuation routes with the assumption that individuals with impaired motor function or other disabilities will be among the citizens we evacuate. No one will be left behind.
2
There is one instinct he can't seem to ever override, though, no matter how hard he tries. Despite working in his group, Raidou is still wearing his weapons. Good thing he is, too, when the corpse Ratio is working on suddenly starts to writhe unnaturally, a sure sign of infection.
Before he can react fully, Ratio will be pulled out of the way by the shoulder, the young summoner coming between him and the zombie, drawing his sword.]
no subject
The corpse he had been handling was one of the controlled that had spontaneously expired some time between their containment here and Ratio's visit. He had barely even touched the body when it starts to writhe unnaturally, and before he knows it, he's being pulled back into safety behind Raidou.
It takes a second for him to regain his bearings but he observes the contorting body with a frown. ]
So he was infected, not just controlled.
[ He takes a step backward to give Raidou the space he needs to deal with the infested corpse. ]
If you would.
no subject
Raidou gives Ratio a nod, keeping his eyes on the animated corpse for several seconds, trying to visualize the body underneath the sheet. Then, quick as a flash, Raidou raises the sword and brings it down where the neck would be. Even with the sheet in the way, his aim is impeccable. With no mind there to control, the writhing ceases.
Wordlessly, expression stern, Raidou steps aside. He isn't sure how these worms work, if it'll still be alive as well and want to find a new host. He simply looks to ratio for his next set of orders.]
no subject
Blood pools under the body, centered around the neck, but Ratio pays it no mind as he kneels next to the body, searching for the open wound that should exist as proof of the kaiju parasite's presence. Once located, he looks over to Raidou, gesturing to step back further, and then places his hand over the opening, which is as big as his palm.
A flash of light emanates shoots down the hole and he withdraws his hand quickly. A second later, something wriggles out of the body, blood-soaked and writhing in pain as it jumps onto the floor and undulates unpleasantly.
With another wave of his hand, yellow light emits from his hand again and entraps the kaiju worm in a ball of glowing light chains. ]
There. I have rendered it harmless.

Some updates for your map, doc! [ 'some,' meaning… he's marked every sink hole and collapse thus far. it pays to be able to utilise vantage points and to have good sight. ] Integrity of the information's all within ~10 minutes. Do what you will with it, 'cause it seems you're the right guy for this stuff. I can keep you posted throughout the day, what do you say?
@rubber ducky, Text
This is incredibly thorough work. You have my thanks.
[ And then nothing. But Elysium's hard work is rewarded when, fifteen minutes later, Ratio releases an updated map of evacuation routes, which has marked all the sinkholes and collapses Elysium reported, as well as newly highlighted danger zones people ought to avoid. It's after this that Elysium gets another text. ]
Your assistance is appreciated. As you can see on the updated map, I have marked several areas that I believe are in danger of collapse within the next half-hour. Confirm their status after the alloted period has passed.
The evacuation routes must also be kept clear. Monitor them and inform me if there is threat of a collapse or if the evacuating citizens are in need of aid.
no subject
No problemo. We've all got reasons we're here, yeah? Resident communications and fieldwork specialist Elysium, at your service. 😉 Just let me know what I can do to help.
[ Having sent a message to avoid being intrusive in the first place, the delay in his response is to be expected. He's already expecting the good doctor to be occupied with various tasks, on top of having to validate what he's sent; meanwhile, Elysium isn't idle either. ]
Verify the conditions of areas D, J, X, Y, Z over the next half hour: gotcha, will do.
On that note, I moved a group of civilians to Shelter C as indicated on your map. It's next to one of the danger zones you've marked down. Several of them have some pretty grave injuries; I managed to patch them up with first aid, but if you could route a healer or two I'd be much obliged. They'll be in serious trouble if the area gets compromised and they have to move a second time… which, isn't impossible, so I'd like to move them to somewhere safer once their conditions have stabilised.
no subject
A fieldwork specialist? Then I daresay this task was made for you. Let us talk further of coordinating in future missions after we have taken care of this kaiju.
[ Elysium's hypercompetency has sparked curiosity and interest from Ratio, so he will be reaching out to him after to establish relations. Anyway, Ratio begins preparing as he sends another message to the fieldwork specialist. The speech-to-text makes it relatively easy for him to handle multiple tasks at once. ]
Understood. I will head there myself along with two healers to assess the situation. Shelter C should be stable despite its proximity to a danger zone, but I will remain there until the shelter's safety can be verified. Any individuals with grave injuries shall be transferred to Shelter A once they have been stabilized for transportation.

If you can't take care of it, I can. [ he offers. ]
no subject
He glances at Akechi only once during that, so brief it could be missed in the blink of an eye. ]
Not squeamish, are you?
[ A simple observation, and light in the way he says it, belying his curiosity. That a young teenager would not find this sight gruesome...
After confirming that the worm is still lodged inside of the body, and alive, Ratio vanishes the penlight out of his hand and shifts to a crouched position, a hand hovering a few inches above the wound. He looks at Akechi properly this time. ]
I am going to draw the worm out of the body. Are you ready?
no subject
What's the point of being so? ...I'm ready.
[ he says, standing at attention, eyes intense. ]
no subject
A bright light fires from Ratio's hand into the wound. He withdraws his hand and shifts back to give the body some space. A second later, the it contorts as something within starts convulsing. Soon enough, a worm pops out of the hole, accompanied by an ooze of blood and viscera. ]
3. Wrap Up and Disposal
Compared to the experiences he had with Ratio in Vegas, Bakugo's willing to admit the guy is a good man. Very intelligent, still a control freak (in a positive way), but the ego he was concerned the man had isn't a cause for wariness on the explosive hero's part now. He has enough humility to admit his weakness in one area over the strengths in another, didn't put himself above the law, and seeks to use his knowledge for the betterment of most. It's a new view of the man, and Bakugo's willing to be more lenient.
Though, he's not that surprised to find Ratio down here exploring worm holes and investigating the monster's corpse. Bakugo's not interested in cutting up the carcass, but when he notices the writhing tendrils, a beam-like explosion zips past Ratio and detonates against them with a burst, frying the wriggling things into a crisp.]
You better study shit fast. LILITH always takes as much of the kaiju with them as possible. [Though the number of larva, corpses, and the size of the Alitta Virens, suggest they're not going to get all of it.] This amount means they'll probably just take what's valuable.
no subject
Fortunate then that I've already had a chance to study its larva.
[ Not that it had been particularly illuminating without any of the tools he prefers to use for such studies. But it had been enough to grasp the internal anatomy of the creature and replicate it through drawn diagrams, and create hypotheses of the purpose of certain structures. He intends on submitting a report of his discoveries to LILITH once he gets a chance, and though he hopes it's enough to convince them to be more forthcoming about their research, he doesn't expect much. ]
They will no doubt want to determine how the creature influences the mind with its luminescence. I have some idea as to which organs will be worth their attention.
no subject
What'd you find out?
[Anything beyond what was already known to them? Bakugo moves to Ratio's side, frowning at the beast in front of them. He really wants to just nuke the damn thing into atoms and forget it was ever there. But unfortunately he doesn't have that kind of power at the moment. While he'd certainly be able to incinerate a fair bit of it, maybe a football field size, this things over 1k ft long. He'd end up blowing a lot of gore all over the buildings and making a bigger mess.
Anyways. That's for another time. They'll likely have to carve this thing up and drag it out into the desert piece by piece for disposing.]
That thing can make its entire body glow; there's gonna be a shitload of those organs.
no subject
[ Given its size, he has a hypothesis that the worm may be segmented internally, each section sustained by its own set of organs. As the worm is taken apart for disposal, that hypothesis will find its proof, or disproof. ]
Regardless, we should be harvesting several sets of organs from this creature for research and archival purposes. Anything that can compromise our ocular implants must be thoroughly analyzed to avoid the same issues in future missions.
