CONTENT WARNINGS: mind control, parasitic worms, gore

▶ 001. POSITIVE THINKING.

The aftermath of the last kaiju battle, has had LILITH researchers scrambling to find an adequate way to combat the aftereffects of the kaiju discovered in the desert. While their research is still very much a work in progress, for now… it’ll have to do. In the early hours of the morning, a message will appear on everyone’s oculars, asking them to suit up immediately and meet at the given coordinates, which will act as the Outsiders rendezvous point. These coordinates lead to an abandoned hotel within 1 mile to the outskirts of the strip.

A new update awaits each Outsider on their oculars. There is no option to decline, and right away it prompts you through several steps. This update was all in part thanks to the various dreams that the oculars have been reacting to. The researchers for LILITH figured out a way to combat these pesky mental side effects by forcing the mind into a state of equilibrium. In order to do this, Outsiders will be asked to think of their happiest memories. Perhaps, due in part to everyone downloading this update at the same time, people will automatically feel an odd sensation as they think back on these memories, almost as if their mind is connected to a collective. These memories will leave each Outsider feeling fulfilled, or even a temporary sense of high as the download continues. As a result, Outsiders may feel giddy or a sense of calm. Some may be motivated to talk about their happy memories with others the first time they do this.

▶ 002. BREACH OF THE CITY.

Once the download is completed, there’s zero time to rest. It looks like whatever they found in the desert isn’t interested in just sitting and waiting. They’ve come to the city with clear intentions of gradually infiltrating its borders. Who are they? Why, the missing people of course.

Apparently, as part of the kaijus life cycle, it lays eggs, which then hatch into younger worms, similar to actual earthworms. These young worms, unable to protect themselves, control the minds of other living entities in order to do their bidding and keep their own bodies safe. Once infected, their hosts become vicious and hungry for meat, attacking any living thing in sight and trying to eat its flesh to nourish the parasite within.

It’ll be up to the Outsiders in order to scope out these young worms controlling the people of the desert, while simultaneously knocking those individuals out of commission. In some rare circumstances, there will be no turning back for these individuals; if the young worm actually burrows themselves into the bodies of the controlled, they are no more than a reanimated corpse, and will need to be eliminated immediately. The longer these worms exist within these people’s bodies, the larger they grow, and by extension, the more influence they can exert over a larger net of people.

Instead of the camper vans, LILITH has provided other sleeker vehicles in order to quickly traverse the city. The vehicles are equipped for speed and are meant to assist in getting to the various coordinates LILITH sends out to everyone’s oculars. The coordinates all mark where these “controlled people” have been seen via drone footage.

▶ 003. WORM ON THE MIND.

While the attention will be focused on destroying the monsters that have come up to the city, there will be occasional tremors that can be felt that seem to come from far below— almost as if they were cries from the old city that lay forgotten below. Unfortunately, it’s much worse.

In the middle of staving off the attacks from the mysterious creatures, there will suddenly be the sound of the defense alarm blaring, and without any additional warning, something breaks through the center of the city. This will first be punctuated by the sounds of the building around them crumbling, followed by the clear visual of the large serpentine creature they’ve encountered in the desert. The large sand worm doesn’t even pause to regain its bearings. As soon as it recognizes the presence of other organisms, it begins glowing a fluorescent shade in varying indefinable colors—

Thanks to the updates on the oculars, there will no longer be hallucinations that follow any contact with the worm, however, if one stares too long, they will still be met with splitting headaches and a pressing sense of agitation, so Outsiders are cautioned against prolonged exposure. That said, it won’t always be easy to take a breather against such a large creature.

█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: ALITTA VIRENS
HEIGHT: 400 metres
WEIGHT: 1,900,000 kg
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: Las Vegas, USA
ABILITIES: Mind control. Although full details are UNKNOWN, its young can take control of human and animal hosts. Once under their control, the hosts will become aggressive and hungry for meat, which is theorized to feed and nourish the young worms until they are ready to emerge.
EXTRA NOTES: According to what the researchers have surmised, similar kaiju have appeared on a much smaller scale and are susceptible to water poisoning and electrical shocks. LILITH has not found a way to fully free the hosts from the parasite, but they can be stunned after receiving multiple electric shocks.

A brief is sent along with her message.

█ █ █ MISSION ROLES:

✖ GROUP ONE: Those who fulfill this role will need to be equipped with brute strength and the ability to survive the attacks in a city that is the midst of being destroyed. They will also need the stamina to keep the worm at bay as the others complete their tasks before also gathering to exterminate the kaiju.
✖ GROUP TWO: With strong mental fortitude, these individuals will be expected to clean up the group of controlled individuals; not all will be able to be saved, and the ability to make that distinction is imperative for this role. Those who appear too far gone will not be able to regain their senses. They will need to be killed.
✖ GROUP THREE: This group will be concentrated on being able to property evacuate the citizens that remain in the city of Las Vegas. Preferably those who are quick on their feet, or are able to stealthily circumvent the dangers in the city in order to get the people to safety would be ideal for this role.
✖ GROUP FOUR: Those with support skills or a medical background will be expected to assist those in the other groups, whether by healing, additional abilities, or by assisting the other groups as needed.

Note: Roles can be decided by the characters themselves as to what they figure is appropriate and most fitted to their skill set. Everyone will eventually fight the worm (so this does not affect the fight mechanics of the worm itself) and people can also jump from one role to another.

▶ 004. LET'S WRAP UP.

The areas the worm has traversed leaves the ground above it weak and unsteady. Due in part to this, those who have evacuated will need to remain in the shelter until further notice. As a result, it’s up to the Outsiders to clean up the city. Aside from the large gaping hole in the center of the city that they can’t address immediately, they are first expected to get rid of the carcasses of the larvae.

Each Outsider will be provided with a suit and will even be given hover packs to scale down the side of these large holes. They will also be given traditional ropes and lines for those who want to get creative with scaling, or who simply didn’t make it there quickly enough to grab a hover pack (with the destruction to the city, some supplies are still in transit). They will be expected to review each carcass and tag which ones can be sent to the lab for further review, and which should simply be discarded as being unusable.

A coordinated effort is needed to adequately dispose of the largest kaiju. The alitta virens will need to be cut into several thousands of pieces, and so work needs to begin immediately. It’s not like the people can return to everyday life with a giant serpent-like entity laying on top of their city. Outsiders should be particularly cautious with it; even when dead, as it still seems to have strange tendrils inside of its body that appear to be writhing even after its death.

▶ 005. AFTERWORD.

Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the smaller kaijus. The main fight with the largest one will be determined via a HP-based system (See below). Feel free to ask any other questions below!

1. POSITIVE THINKING: LILITH has updated everyone's implants and encourage them to think of their happiest thoughts to give the technology the mental boost they need. Some characters may feel high or giddy and want to express their happy memories to someone else.

2. BREACH OF THE CITY: The worm larvae have a parasitic nature and are taking over the bodies of civilians. Outsiders are tasks to seek out those affected, killing worm larvae or civilians with parasites who are beyond help.

3. WORM ON THE MIND: The largest worm breaks through the ground in the heart of the city and Outsiders are encouraged to attack within their arranged group.

4. LET'S WRAP UP: After the sandworm monster is killed, Outsiders will be tasked with clean up efforts.

So..... because this must be asked, what would happen if someone were to carelessly approach the writhing tendrils inside the kaiju's dead body?

1. Coordinator in the Backlines
— "My place is not in the heat of the action."

[ Shortly after the sand worm rears its ugly head in the center of the city, Ratio sends out a video message through the ocular network. Hopefully there's a notif for that or people are paying attention to the network during this time... ]

This is Dr. Ratio. As combat is not my specialty, I will act as a coordinator from the backlines to further organize our efforts and minimize casualties. If you require support or backup, contact me and I will send someone to assist you. I will be stationed with evacuated citizens to provide medical support, as well as analyze infected individuals and the kaiju's young. You may find me here if you need my personal assistance.

[ He will attach a map of Vegas, which marks his location, as well as the location of several shelter areas for evacuated citizens, evacuation routes, and drop off points for neutralized infected and mind controlled individuals, which are located close to the shelter areas but are separated enough to keep citizens from becoming endangered should they go wild again. ]

Group Three, I have drawn up potential evacuation routes on short notice, based on what I have managed to infer about Las Vegas' geography, layout and the structural engineering of its buildings. These are only estimates, and will require your input to perfect. Report any collapses or untraversable areas so that I may create revised routes for your use.

Group Two, you may bring any controlled individuals that you have neutralized to the drop-off points noted. Members of Group Four will handle their containment.

If you have questions or are uncertain about your duties, contact me. We cannot afford uncertainty in this situation. And, though I expect you all to have at least some modicum of self-preservation, I would like to remind you not to be reckless, and to call on aid if you need it.

2. Analysis of the Infected
— "I have to save those that I can."

[ As is usual for the scholar, Ratio has given himself quite a bit to do. Between providing medical support to acting as a coordinator of sorts, he's been running around providing assistance where he can. On top of that though, he wants to know more about the kaiju, so right now he's at one of the drop off points for the infected, examining one of the unconscious bodies of the controlled individuals.

To the side of the room, some bodies have already been covered with tarp—a sign that said individuals have already passed away. Those bodies, too, he plans on examining through autopsy once he gets a chance, but for now his priority is with the living.

A shift of the man he's handling causes blood to start pooling underneath, and he clicks his tongue in frustration as he finds sign of an open wound matching what he knows of how the kaiju parasites burrow into a person. ]

So it's too late for this man...

[ Anyone is free to stumble on Ratio examining these poor people, or catch one of the controlled individuals waking and starting to cause a ruckus. ]

3. Wrap Up and Disposal
— "This is the most important step."

[ It's over. The kaiju has been defeated. Frankly, he was uncertain if it was possible, given its size, but it's dead, and so are its larvae. It's a relief, to be honest. He has never been at the forefront of an attack like this, but it is useful experience, because even back home there was always the chance that the Anti-Matter Legion could attack, or Aeons forbid, whatever remained of the Swarm, which the worm and its larvae remind him of, as its goal was clearly its own propagation.

Anyway, with the danger out of the way, now comes the most important part: the analysis. He's quick to grab a suit and hover pack so he can get down there to examine the carcasses himself, after assessing the potential dangers of entering the hole. Later on he will also assist in cutting up the Alitta Virens, examining the body as it's cut up in an attempt to understand its structure.

Anyone will be able to find him in the hole next to one of the larvae carcasses, not doing anything except examining it, or at the corpse of the Alitta Virens, observing the writhing tendrils with curiosity and caution. ]

Hi mods! Is there any way for Outsiders to ID any killed civilians (either via a good old-fashioned physical ID or some tag in a chip if NPCs were rich enough for that kind of thing) and help with burial/disposal and possibly even delivering news to any surviving family?

Hello mods I peeped FAQ and nosied into a couple of the last kaiju fights to see how it was done because I was curious about the attack stuff when it comes to a tag-team. Which, IS that cool to do just to clarify? I've only seen it a couple of times so JUST WANNA MAKE SURE FIRST.

And if so, is it the same thing; just top leveling with both names / canons in the header and then specifying which weapon each uses to attack? Asking that in case there something else that might be needed for whatever rng stuff for 2 people.

001. POSITIVE THINKING.

[Last few days have been rough on Rodya, so getting a wake up call very early doesn't help with her mood. That type of call means it's time to get back to work so she might as well get things over with so everyone can get their usual long break afterwards and enjoy their next paycheck.

Getting asked over her happiest memories kind of threw her off because she doesn't have much happy memories to begin with, but she does try to think back on the little good moments. It's mostly memories on stuff that happened here, the simple things like eating with friends and the get-togethers such as the RV party and the girls night at the hot springs.

Good news is that it's working and she's smiling, checking everyone else out as the download does it thing.]

Hey, hey- [Speaking up towards you if you are smiling as well.] What are you smiling about?

[An easy conversation starter while the update is going on.]

002. WORM ON THE MIND.

[She will probably hop around from group to group when needed, but for now, Rodya might as well start with Group Three to get any poor souls into a safe spot. She's not the sneakiest or the fastest person, but she can hold her own out there as she tries to avoid the big worm for now, help people evacuate or fight when needed, and cut down any small worms looking for hosts or meat.

At some point in the chaos, people might find strange green slime around the destruction. It's more like actual markers being left behind to give others a message. If there is a X next to an alleyway, you shouldn't go down there unless someone is calling for help.

When she is able to stop in a safe spot, she throws a text message out to people to give context on this mystery:]

Hey, whoever can catch this message-
If you see random green slime here and there, don't touch it and don't let any civilians touch it. It's not from the kaiju, it's from me. Making markers on the walls that lead to dead ends and stuff-
Dunno about the big guy, but it should slow down everyone else.
Anyways, good luck! No dying or getting worm possessed! The later sounds really gross, I don't think dying that way would be a fun time. Just saying.

[She will alternate between fighting off attacks and escorting civilians to the shelters while using an E.G.O. that explains the green slime being left around (No, she's not leaving tracks, the slime on her shoes are part of the fit. She might leave a drop or two of green dots during her wandering due to swinging her axe around.)

However, if you are a certain someone or you are next to that certain someone either by chance or working with him, she is changing routes and going in another direction, even if she got civilians following along with her. Unless there is danger going on, then she might jump in to help fight things off once any possible followers are safe. It's a whole thing, don't worry about it-]

003. LET'S WRAP UP.

[She's only going to help with some of the cleanup, but Rodya is going to focus on tagging random larvae carcasses that seemed to look okay enough. Not really an outstanding job, but it's mindless enough to keep her busy. The big one being a roadblock is a huge hassle, but she was lucky enough to snag a hover pack. Having a flying E.G.O. did help her adjust to heights, but given the side effects, using a pack is the better move. She will be flying over debris as she does her wandering on the streets, throwing tags on dead kaiju or checking anything out that catches her eye.

She will take small breaks to stare at the mess and regain some energy by sitting around on flat debris, but anyone who needs an extra pair of hands with a task or two, she can provide if asked. Later on, she's going in the direction to a safe spot when she feels like she is done for today.]

004. WILDCARD

it should be easier said than done, for someone like malkuth -- but truth is, her mind's been troubled by the past and the things people have seen with it. it's easy enough to smile and brush it off especially once back in the city, but it occurs to her that

she can't really think of "happiest" memories from any life that isn't her current. more accurately, ones that don't take place in this world. malkuth has plenty of happy memories here, and she hasn't a problem telling them... it's just kinda awkward.

so! so!!!!!

this smiling chick's sat up on a bench with a sign in her lap. it reads:

... don't worry, it isn't just Outsiders she's drawing with that bold proposal. she's got guys and gals alike who're willing to sit, so maybe it'll be more of a rescue than anything with some. ]

... well, the fairy festival's serrated scythe has as little issue with slicing through the hopeless as she does. she recalls ryoji's hesitance, his indecision in killing someone, and how she'd stayed his hand then; she recalls it as she sees not a spot of will in the eyes of some and would be able to tell him on circumstance that this is a mercy.

still. it reminds her a lot of the dreamemories she'd had, and so one might have to excuse her if she's taking a break from the salvationary slaughter after tying up a couple of saveable to press her hands to her face with a sigh. happy thoughts, was it? happy thoughts. ]

Sleepovers with March, dinner with friends... Hot springs with the girls... Winning big.

Professor! Or, well, Doctor! [ for now. he's got a doctorate but he'll still always be professor when he's tutoring her. ] It's nice to see you well. You said you were helping take care of wounds and all? I've... it isn't life threatening, but I'll be the first to admit that I've been letting my guard down.

[ distracted more like, but. it's fine. she doesn't want to-- she can self-heal, but she doesn't want to... do that. she can't let the Abnormality do what it wants. ]

Oh, but my clumsy self is my own worst enemy -- I think I knocked my head pretty hard a bit ago. Maybe I could help you for a little bit?

[ As always, the kaiju fight brings with it a grim reminder of how bleak their situation here in this world really is. Bad enough that there's a giant monster wreaking havoc wherever it goes, but somehow it's the accidental casualties that always hit the hardest. People in the wrong place at the wrong time that end up being crushed underfoot, or swept under the sway of a being frantic to latch onto anything nearby and used and controlled until there's no option left but for them to be destroyed.

A mercy for the innocent rather than a punishment for the sinners. That's what he tells himself anyway, even if it doesn't feel that way, the longer the day wears on and the more he's forced to plunge his borrowed knife into another beating heart, one too corrupted to be saved.

Between the sand, sweat, and blood, he both looks and feels like a grimy mess by the time his bike comes to a stop at the next footage point - conveniently right next to where Malkuth happens to be taking her short break. ]

You can take a longer break if you need it. I'll cover you.

[ He's got enough blood on his hands by this point. What's a little more? ]

[ malkuth jumps near out of her skin, the E.G.O. Page's borrowed cyan wings pressing hard against the wall she's sat by for cover like they're trying to hide, and relaxes a little more when she clocks who's talking to her. oh.

wriothesley's had better days, but it's really not like she's any better in the end. malkuth smiles a little and shakes her head, hands falling into her lap. ]

I appreciate it, but I'm out here so others aren't. [ not just her friends, but anyone who can't -- who shouldn't have to know the distinction. ] Don't worry, I'm gonna pull my weight -- I just... needed a breather.

[ Happy memories …

Elysium has plenty of fun memories, but happy? It's a little sobering how difficult it is to fixate on one memory in particular that doesn't come with some sort of a "but, well…" attached. Still, there is one thing that comes to mind that he figures fits the bill enough. "Enough."

A sidelong glance and a smile for the person next to him. ]

There's nothing quite like finding the one thing only you can do, right?

ii. battlefield communications specialist reporting in,

[ Immediately following the update, there'll be a link sent to all Outsiders that leads to a topographic live map of Las Vegas. It's heavily annotated to the point of being overwhelming (understatement) and is unlike any other map that has been provided (custom-made by yours truly), but there is a saving grace in how there are filters and toggles: one can find pretty much anything they're looking for, from geographic features, infrastructure stats, shelter locations, utilities and resources, as well as access and egress points all neatly marked with notes of interest.

Every time your character blinks, the map is populated with new information with tags denoting their last update. ]

This is Operator Elysium. Attached is a map I'll be updating throughout the day. Ongoing breaches, the severity of them, and viable escape routes are among many of the available features for your viewing pleasure.

[ Already, a route that had been previously marked as a safe in green turns red with a skull in the centre of it. Hovered over, it'll display HAZARD LEVEL: MEDIUM for an active breach containing an approximation of infected, with another route branching off from it taking its place. Blink again, and a shelter that had previously been marked as usable reads FULL. It's been ten minutes. ]

I'll try to maintain the integrity of every point of interest and route, but I am a one man operation. If you decide to suppress any of the breaches, be sure to mark it and request for backup as necessary. Any significant changes you think I need to make, let me know. Over.

[ Wherever they are, Elysium will choose to handle stragglers on his own, including civilians who are considered too far gone. Or maybe, he's decided to hop in on an ongoing scuffle that seems it'll be expedited by his presence. He's no powerhouse, so he'll only be dropping in on smaller conflicts of three or four in knowing there are better usages of his time otherwise, but when he does——

His stab into these reanimated corpses will be tried and true, right through the heart and with no hesitation, following through with any additional attacks as necessary. ]

That'll do it. Route secured. [ There's the slightest pause before he glances over to your character; he's updating a route on the map as green. Not once do his eyes flash back to their original colour. ] Lost? Need to find your way or where else to go? You've run into the right guy.

… Let's come back to give them a proper burial when we can.

[ On a private layer of the map he'll expose later: corpses for retrieval. ]

[ Can't believe Wriothesley's the one with a wealth of happy memories out here. "Wealth", like that doesn't mean a whole five more memories than Elysium has, probably.

But there one of them is on display nonetheless: what seems to be a celebration of some kind in a dreary looking office, a few small wrapped gifts sitting on the desk while a single balloon wobbles sadly in the corner and a gathering of small creatures (Melusines, I'm not linking a pic on mobile) waddle around decorating the place. And by decorating, I mean slapping cute stickers over every available surface.

The couch, the coffee table, the phonograph on the desk, the coat that hangs off Wriothesley's shoulder's, even a heart-shaped one lovingly pressed directly onto his a--

Good thing Elysium's interrupting the rest of that unnecessary image. ]

[ They are talking about Elysium here, right? ]

[Huh... While this guy sounds way too uptight for her tastes, she can't complain over someone taking up a coordinator role to help keep some things under control and provide some helpful info. It did take her some time to respond after his message, but eventually he gets a voice call from this woman:]

Hey, doc! Thanks for the map~ You said you want updates, right?

[She sends a picture of the same map Ratio provided, but she put marks on some routes with Xs to show where collapses happened. There is a small dot on the map to show her current location, a good distance from a shelter.]

[With the update installed, after thinking of her happier memories, Makima’s ready to go and hopefully won’t be falling victim to the worm’s effects a second time. She’s looking forward to being more useful this time around, but also the update and dwelling on those have left her in a good mood, a friendly smile on her face instead of the more usual one. Not that her regular expressions aren’t friendly, but this one’s more open, honest. Versus the one that she’s been told doesn’t always meet her eyes.

And she actually feels like talking a little, though how much she’s not sure. Still, she’s looking around for a conversation partner. Maybe a good chance to learn a little more about her, though later she might not feel so great about the mood she’s in now.]

[The controlled people aren’t giving Makima too much pause. Knock one out here, another there. The shambling zombie ones though...well, she’s not thinking too much about these either. This does bring back some memories though, not the happy ones that accompanied her update, but things from home. It’s not her first go round with this sort of thing, either the ones who are savable or the ones who aren’t.]

Come to think of it, there were those bugs from the simulator. They behaved similarly...

[Talking to herself a little, focusing less on there and more on here as another group approaches. A few steps back towards the car, to put a little distance between her and them. She’s not going to say no to receiving a helping hand, though she hasn’t needed too much assistance yet.

She’s also absolutely willing to offer some sort of assistance if someone’s having more trouble than her. They’re all in this together, more or less. Plus she thinks it wouldn’t do to have another poor showing after the desert expedition.]

[When the worm surfaces, Makima will go with Team One. Thanks to the update, she’s not concerned about being a liability to the others and while she’s never quite operated in a setting like this, she doesn’t doubt her ability to keep up.

...plus, if she’s being honest, she does want to get some shots in on the worm right away because she might still be harboring a little bit of a grudge for what happened previously. Not that she’s showcasing any additional malice with her attacks. Though she isn’t quite trying so hard to conceal what she’s doing as she normally does, figuring the chaos and debris will draw attention more than her. Probably.]

[Later after that’s all dealt with, she’ll be cataloging things with presumably everyone else. She’s entirely her usual self, unreadable expression back on her face as she tags and notes carcass after carcass. Not really something she’s enjoying doing, no.

And she’s careful to step away any time one of those tendrils move. She doesn’t know what that is, and she’s not terribly interested in finding out. No. The only thing that’s really on her mind besides work.]

I don’t suppose you’d let me borrow your pack for the return trip.

[She had to make do with a rope, which fine, she’ll do it again if she has to, but she’d rather not.]

Weapon Used: She’s going to try and use her finger bullets to knock a car (or other vehicle equivalent) into its mouth. Hopefully it explodes.

But the visual is appreciated when what Elysium has is the concept of a happy memory, rather than any defining singular one to bring to the table. Comprised of a series of vignettes that are sewn together to create a larger picture, what washes over them is a feeling of belonging more than anything else. ]

Sure. Though, "unparalleled" is a bit different from that, I'd say. And if I'm being real, the average person can get by just fine with a simple map and compass or GPS.

Hi mods! I took a look at past kaiju logs and saw that characters were able to provide damage bonuses to others by means of support, though they were usually secondary effects from a direct hit rather than a single buff/debuff turn. I was wondering since Elysium's literally just a guy with a sword, would it be possible to submit hits that are essentially just Elysium channeling a debuff on the boss?

▶ 001. POSITIVE THINKING.

[ Happy memories.

What counts as a happy memory? Yuji isn't sure these days. If it had been a few months ago, he'd have been able to pinpoint them all easily, but the issue now is... Each of his happiest memories are tinged with his own grief, his heartache, his losses; each happy moment he can remember has an echo of something awful happening in the wake of it. He's doing his best, but for a boy as optimistic as he tries to be it's a strange kind of struggle.

Rather than focus on that, he's decided he's going to try and do something useful with his time until the moment where they have to go back out and deal with the worm problem. Yuji is attempting to manipulate his blood.

Anyone that comes across him will see Yuji with a bite mark on his hand, a line of blood coming from the wound that he is manipulating between flexing fingertips, trying to turn it into some kind of orb. It's wobbly, and it's not entirely clear what he's trying to do with it at first, but he's clearly doing something, a frown of concentration on his face. Eventually, he manages to get it into some kind of hard shape, approximately the size of a grenade.

Totally normal things. ]

▶ 002. BREACH OF THE CITY.

[ Enemies that are essentially reanimated corpses are too familiar to Yuji Itadori, especially after the lapse into his past he had most recently experienced.

It's difficult not to think about Mahito, about his Transfiguration abilities, turning humans into curselike puppets that obey his command. It's impossible not to make the connection, and the sheer horror and anger that he feels is obvious in the twist of his features as he goes out to deal with them. At least, in this, he has some kind of experience: he doesn't like killing people, doesn't like the idea of hurting humans, but they're already dead, aren't they?

Once again, there's nothing he can do to save them.

Heading out, Yuji is set and determined as he works on fighting the semi-human creatures, doing what he can to knock them out rather than do any kind of real damage to them. This isn't like fighting curses, fighting Mahito, fighting Sukuna - these were people, once. They'd been human. There's no one here to protect him from that reality, in the way that Nanamin and Gojo-sensei might once have done... He's here and he has a job to do.

He wishes there was something different they could do. He wishes that, for once, he could save someone.

If he spots anyone in trouble, or needing aid, he's quick to come to their side, a blip of speed before he skids to a halt. His breathing is a little harder: clearly, this is tough for him. ]

I'll help you. Are you alright?

▶ 003. WORM ON THE MIND.

[ Yuji hears the command of 'don't expose yourself too long to the worm' and chooses to ignore it.

Once upon a time, he was resistant to this kind of thing. Thanks to being Sukuna's vessel, things that influenced his mind and soul had a harder time of it - one of the reasons why he was uniquely suited to dealing with Mahito in the wake of all the horrors that curse caused. It's not the same any more, and Yuji is already in a fragile state, hurt and emotionally scarred from reliving his most horrifying and tragic memories. There's no recovering from that, not in so short a time, so he shoves it aside.

He's getting better at burying his hurt and focusing on the problem in front of him. Once upon a time, he might have broken.

As part of group one, Yuji focuses on dealing with the worm as best he can, and he's in his element. His speed is almost obnoxious (as fast as a car, running around the worm and moving around the city) and he doesn't seem to need to pause to rest for a second, slipping between the debris and destroyed buildings to get closer and closer.

With his water sword drawn, Yuji does what he can to rush around, trying to throw the element at the worm whenever he can, pushing himself over and over again, throwing himself into any attempt he has to deal with the creature. As usual, he seems to have little regard for his own life and sanity as he keeps pushing, and every now and then there's a small explosion around him - a mixture of blood and sweat that thrums through the city.

Yuji is on a mission, and he doesn't intend to stop. ]

▶ 004. LET'S WRAP UP.

[ Yuji doesn't bother with the hoverpacks, leaving them for someone else to deal with.

Instead, he approaches one of the holes, examines it for a moment before he simply... Jumps down, landing on his feet without too much issue. Glancing around, he grins sheepishly at anyone he sees before he begins to get to work, walking through the rubble and debris, all the destruction, and trying to find something that could be helpful. Something good, amongst all the horrors and sadness.

It's a difficult task.

Once he's done his part, making his way through and tagging some of the remains, a gaunt, haunted look on his face, he turns around and simply... Leaps back out, with a huge jump from the bottom of the hole up to the top, almost doing a flip as he brushes off the dirt from his trousers. As if it was completely normal to leap so high, Yuji begins to make his way through the city back to the oversized worm, just waiting to be dealt with.

He spends the next few hours helping to cut and chop through the giant kaiju, stepping up to help anyone that he can, no hesitation.

If he sees anyone he recognises, at least, he'll give them a little wave. He's still here, for what it's worth. ]

[ Yuji can't help the way he leans down, eyes narrowing as he gazes at her little sign for a moment before he leans back.

Let's... Date? His head tilts, and he crosses his arms, looking utterly confused. ]

What does dating have to do with the happy memories? I don't get it.

[ How is this going to help? ]

[ On the bright side, Gebura doesn't necessarily need any help with, shall we say, suppression. There's no hesitation in the way she moves, Mimicry's blade biting into the bodies of the stragglers, the way she gauges whether a civilian is going to be a problem or not in a single glance--

But maybe he's just there to assist with clean-up, and she straightens as the last body crumples to her feet. Her heeled feet. Because rather unfortunately, thanks to an ill-timed style upgrade, she is dressed in your typical sexy bunny outfit. Ears included, of course, a black that stands out against her hair. But the fishnets at least cover her legs, for all that most of the scars that tend to remain hidden beneath her usual clothes are out on full display.

It doesn't make Gebura look any more welcoming, at least. ]

Might as well. [ The burial, not the assistance. ] Leaving bodies like this in the long run is just going to heighten the risk of some kind of plague going around.
