KAIJU FIGHT #3
KAIJU FIGHT #3
ā¶ 001. POSITIVE THINKING.
The aftermath of the last kaiju battle, has had LILITH researchers scrambling to find an adequate way to combat the aftereffects of the kaiju discovered in the desert. While their research is still very much a work in progress, for now⦠itāll have to do. In the early hours of the morning, a message will appear on everyoneās oculars, asking them to suit up immediately and meet at the given coordinates, which will act as the Outsiders rendezvous point. These coordinates lead to an abandoned hotel within 1 mile to the outskirts of the strip.

A new update awaits each Outsider on their oculars. There is no option to decline, and right away it prompts you through several steps. This update was all in part thanks to the various dreams that the oculars have been reacting to. The researchers for LILITH figured out a way to combat these pesky mental side effects by forcing the mind into a state of equilibrium. In order to do this, Outsiders will be asked to think of their happiest memories. Perhaps, due in part to everyone downloading this update at the same time, people will automatically feel an odd sensation as they think back on these memories, almost as if their mind is connected to a collective. These memories will leave each Outsider feeling fulfilled, or even a temporary sense of high as the download continues. As a result, Outsiders may feel giddy or a sense of calm. Some may be motivated to talk about their happy memories with others the first time they do this.

ā¶ 002. BREACH OF THE CITY.
Once the download is completed, thereās zero time to rest. It looks like whatever they found in the desert isnāt interested in just sitting and waiting. Theyāve come to the city with clear intentions of gradually infiltrating its borders. Who are they? Why, the missing people of course.
Apparently, as part of the kaijus life cycle, it lays eggs, which then hatch into younger worms, similar to actual earthworms. These young worms, unable to protect themselves, control the minds of other living entities in order to do their bidding and keep their own bodies safe. Once infected, their hosts become vicious and hungry for meat, attacking any living thing in sight and trying to eat its flesh to nourish the parasite within.
Itāll be up to the Outsiders in order to scope out these young worms controlling the people of the desert, while simultaneously knocking those individuals out of commission. In some rare circumstances, there will be no turning back for these individuals; if the young worm actually burrows themselves into the bodies of the controlled, they are no more than a reanimated corpse, and will need to be eliminated immediately. The longer these worms exist within these peopleās bodies, the larger they grow, and by extension, the more influence they can exert over a larger net of people.
Instead of the camper vans, LILITH has provided other sleeker vehicles in order to quickly traverse the city. The vehicles are equipped for speed and are meant to assist in getting to the various coordinates LILITH sends out to everyoneās oculars. The coordinates all mark where these ācontrolled peopleā have been seen via drone footage.

ā¶ 003. WORM ON THE MIND.
While the attention will be focused on destroying the monsters that have come up to the city, there will be occasional tremors that can be felt that seem to come from far below— almost as if they were cries from the old city that lay forgotten below. Unfortunately, itās much worse.
In the middle of staving off the attacks from the mysterious creatures, there will suddenly be the sound of the defense alarm blaring, and without any additional warning, something breaks through the center of the city. This will first be punctuated by the sounds of the building around them crumbling, followed by the clear visual of the large serpentine creature theyāve encountered in the desert. The large sand worm doesnāt even pause to regain its bearings. As soon as it recognizes the presence of other organisms, it begins glowing a fluorescent shade in varying indefinable colors—
Thanks to the updates on the oculars, there will no longer be hallucinations that follow any contact with the worm, however, if one stares too long, they will still be met with splitting headaches and a pressing sense of agitation, so Outsiders are cautioned against prolonged exposure. That said, it wonāt always be easy to take a breather against such a large creature.

A brief is sent along with her message.
Note: Roles can be decided by the characters themselves as to what they figure is appropriate and most fitted to their skill set. Everyone will eventually fight the worm (so this does not affect the fight mechanics of the worm itself) and people can also jump from one role to another.

ā ā ā MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: ALITTA VIRENS
HEIGHT: 400 metres
WEIGHT: 1,900,000 kg
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: Las Vegas, USA
ABILITIES: Mind control. Although full details are UNKNOWN, its young can take control of human and animal hosts. Once under their control, the hosts will become aggressive and hungry for meat, which is theorized to feed and nourish the young worms until they are ready to emerge.
EXTRA NOTES: According to what the researchers have surmised, similar kaiju have appeared on a much smaller scale and are susceptible to water poisoning and electrical shocks. LILITH has not found a way to fully free the hosts from the parasite, but they can be stunned after receiving multiple electric shocks.
"
YAMAKAWA: Angels of LILITH, please be advised of your roles moving forward. With the city already infiltrated, we will need to be quick."

A brief is sent along with her message.
ā ā ā MISSION ROLES:
ā GROUP ONE: Those who fulfill this role will need to be equipped with brute strength and the ability to survive the attacks in a city that is the midst of being destroyed. They will also need the stamina to keep the worm at bay as the others complete their tasks before also gathering to exterminate the kaiju.
ā GROUP TWO: With strong mental fortitude, these individuals will be expected to clean up the group of controlled individuals; not all will be able to be saved, and the ability to make that distinction is imperative for this role. Those who appear too far gone will not be able to regain their senses. They will need to be killed.
ā GROUP THREE: This group will be concentrated on being able to property evacuate the citizens that remain in the city of Las Vegas. Preferably those who are quick on their feet, or are able to stealthily circumvent the dangers in the city in order to get the people to safety would be ideal for this role.
ā GROUP FOUR: Those with support skills or a medical background will be expected to assist those in the other groups, whether by healing, additional abilities, or by assisting the other groups as needed.
Note: Roles can be decided by the characters themselves as to what they figure is appropriate and most fitted to their skill set. Everyone will eventually fight the worm (so this does not affect the fight mechanics of the worm itself) and people can also jump from one role to another.
ā¶ 004. LET'S WRAP UP.
The areas the worm has traversed leaves the ground above it weak and unsteady. Due in part to this, those who have evacuated will need to remain in the shelter until further notice. As a result, itās up to the Outsiders to clean up the city. Aside from the large gaping hole in the center of the city that they canāt address immediately, they are first expected to get rid of the carcasses of the larvae.
Each Outsider will be provided with a suit and will even be given hover packs to scale down the side of these large holes. They will also be given traditional ropes and lines for those who want to get creative with scaling, or who simply didnāt make it there quickly enough to grab a hover pack (with the destruction to the city, some supplies are still in transit). They will be expected to review each carcass and tag which ones can be sent to the lab for further review, and which should simply be discarded as being unusable.
A coordinated effort is needed to adequately dispose of the largest kaiju. The alitta virens will need to be cut into several thousands of pieces, and so work needs to begin immediately. Itās not like the people can return to everyday life with a giant serpent-like entity laying on top of their city. Outsiders should be particularly cautious with it; even when dead, as it still seems to have strange tendrils inside of its body that appear to be writhing even after its death.

EVENT BREAKDOWN (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. POSITIVE THINKING: LILITH has updated everyone's implants and encourage them to think of their happiest thoughts to give the technology the mental boost they need. Some characters may feel high or giddy and want to express their happy memories to someone else.
2. BREACH OF THE CITY: The worm larvae have a parasitic nature and are taking over the bodies of civilians. Outsiders are tasks to seek out those affected, killing worm larvae or civilians with parasites who are beyond help.
3. WORM ON THE MIND: The largest worm breaks through the ground in the heart of the city and Outsiders are encouraged to attack within their arranged group.
4. LET'S WRAP UP: After the sandworm monster is killed, Outsiders will be tasked with clean up efforts.
Makima | Chainsaw Man | Brimstone
[With the update installed, after thinking of her happier memories, Makimaās ready to go and hopefully wonāt be falling victim to the wormās effects a second time. Sheās looking forward to being more useful this time around, but also the update and dwelling on those have left her in a good mood, a friendly smile on her face instead of the more usual one. Not that her regular expressions arenāt friendly, but this oneās more open, honest. Versus the one that sheās been told doesnāt always meet her eyes.
And she actually feels like talking a little, though how much sheās not sure. Still, sheās looking around for a conversation partner. Maybe a good chance to learn a little more about her, though later she might not feel so great about the mood sheās in now.]
[002]
[The controlled people arenāt giving Makima too much pause. Knock one out here, another there. The shambling zombie ones though...well, sheās not thinking too much about these either. This does bring back some memories though, not the happy ones that accompanied her update, but things from home. Itās not her first go round with this sort of thing, either the ones who are savable or the ones who arenāt.]
Come to think of it, there were those bugs from the simulator. They behaved similarly...
[Talking to herself a little, focusing less on there and more on here as another group approaches. A few steps back towards the car, to put a little distance between her and them. Sheās not going to say no to receiving a helping hand, though she hasnāt needed too much assistance yet.
Sheās also absolutely willing to offer some sort of assistance if someoneās having more trouble than her. Theyāre all in this together, more or less. Plus she thinks it wouldnāt do to have another poor showing after the desert expedition.]
[003]
[When the worm surfaces, Makima will go with Team One. Thanks to the update, sheās not concerned about being a liability to the others and while sheās never quite operated in a setting like this, she doesnāt doubt her ability to keep up.
...plus, if sheās being honest, she does want to get some shots in on the worm right away because she might still be harboring a little bit of a grudge for what happened previously. Not that sheās showcasing any additional malice with her attacks. Though she isnāt quite trying so hard to conceal what sheās doing as she normally does, figuring the chaos and debris will draw attention more than her. Probably.]
[004]
[Later after thatās all dealt with, sheāll be cataloging things with presumably everyone else. Sheās entirely her usual self, unreadable expression back on her face as she tags and notes carcass after carcass. Not really something sheās enjoying doing, no.
And sheās careful to step away any time one of those tendrils move. She doesnāt know what that is, and sheās not terribly interested in finding out. No. The only thing thatās really on her mind besides work.]
I donāt suppose youād let me borrow your pack for the return trip.
[She had to make do with a rope, which fine, sheāll do it again if she has to, but sheād rather not.]
004
[ listen, all he heard was that they needed to clean up and chop that large kaiju into pieces, it's why he's here mainly and had no interest in the side mission of surveying the smaller corpses. the rest of the instructions were muffled behind an exhausted mind. after all, they all spent a long time fighting off that thing and all denji ever wants to do right now is return to the base and pass out for 13 hours straight.
ah. if she's referring to the pack handed to themā denji considers for a bit before he asks. ]
What's in it for me?
[ he thinks that's a very valid question. ]
no subject
[That's a joke, not that her expression really changes much with it. Instead she takes on a more pensive thoughtful look.]
But what's in it for you...hmm. I feel like it's a little tougher to find the right answer to that than it used to be. For example, I don't think the offer of a movie date would work this time around.
[No, she doesn't think that's a great offer.]
no subject
[ he's purposely dodging the 'date' word, but other than raising a single brow and tilting his head to the side as he regards herā denji's reaction isn't that extreme considering their history. would it be so horrible to catch a movie with makima? not really. it's best to keep an eye on her instead of pushing for some distance where he wouldn't be aware of what she's up to. something about 'keep your friends close and your enemies closer' - or whatever bullshit.
plus, it's just a movie. hmm ...
regardless, the offer is not good enough to give up his tools. denji shrugged, prepping himself to go handle the big corpse that awaited him, idly toying with the cord; no attempt to pull it yet. ] There is a report I need to submit next week, for work, if you help me with it ... I'll give you what you want.
no subject
[She's done her share of paperwork over the years and then some. So that wouldn't be too much trouble. Really, on paper it seems like she's winning out here. And it prevents either of them from giving the movie thing much more thought.]
What is it about, and what part are you having trouble with?
[There's an interested look on her face, she hasn't involved herself in his job or...most people's day jobs really. Unless she runs into someone while out in the city, she's content to let people work without too much interference. No sense in causing any difficulty with someone she might be in the field with. Or additional problems, depending on the person.]
003
...And that's to say nothing of what these creatures can do to innocent people. The young mage has gotten by so far, been lucky enough to only run into clumps of larvae. She's been able to dispatch those easily enough, but as she continues making the rounds and finds people... people who were innocent, who did nothing wrong—
She's rooted in place a bit, gripping her staff tightly somewhere nearby as an effectively-undead victim scampers towards her. ]
no subject
So sheāll take aim from here, pointing her finger like a gun at the poor worm-controlled person. And thereās an impact to them like theyāve been shot or like somethingās impacted them anyways. The hit sends the infected rolling off to the side, away from Fern for the moment. It doesn't seem in a hurry to scramble back their way, if it even can after a blow like that.]
Are you all right?
[Makima calls out while moving closer to her, carefully, keeping an eye out for another one. She thinks theyāre in the clear for now, but the prior encounter with the worm still has her acting a little more cautious than normal.]
no subject
I—
[ Ah. Her voice comes out more strained than she would like. As Makima approaches, Fern turns to properly face her, her head bowed slightly in thanks. ]
I'm all right. Thanks to you, I believe, miss...?
no subject
[Must be on one of the other teams? She knows most of hers, but there's a fair few on the others she hasn't personally spoken with yet.
And she doesn't entirely sound all right to Makima, but she won't press the issue. Not like she knows she kicked up some unpleasant memories. But even if she did, it wouldn't be likely to change the way she's acting.]
I'm just glad I was able to help in time, there's so many of them.
[Not that she comes across as particularly worried or stressed about it. Being more cautious, yes, but she's still keeping her cool here.]
no subject
And given that, she's... Not entirely sure what to make of the woman's nonchalant attitude. Maybe it's a good thing? Then again, her mentor tends to act this way even in the face of great adversity, too, so maybe she's simply... used to these kinds of encounters. ]
...My name is Fern. I'm on the team called 'Redemption.' Um...
[ ...It's telling, how inexperienced she is with this aspect of the mission, but she has to ask just one more time: ]
Is there really no way to save those people...?
no subject
The ones that aren't too far gone, maybe. I fell victim to the worm's effects in the desert, but it wasn't quite like this...
[This is much worse. She thinks they're all rather lucky they didn't see this side of things in the desert, otherwise things would be even worse. It does provide some food for thought as to what would've happened if the afflicted had gotten closer, but she's not dwelling on that much.]
The one that was coming after you though, I don't think so. It seemed closer to a zombie than anything else, and there's usually no saving those.
[Not in movies or where she comes from at least.]
no subject
[ Do these people have implants like they do, as Outsiders? She still has so much to learn about this world...
...But Makima's right. The way that person was acting and moving seemed much more akin to ghosts and demons she's fought, than to a human person. ]
It just... It feels wrong.
no subject
[She's not entirely sure if it would work regardless, but the more zombie-like ones definitely seem like they don't have much memory, let alone happy ones. Unless grabbing a hold of someone not infected counts.]
It's a shame, it would be much easier if that were the case.
no subject
[ And speaking of, from nearby, the telltale sounds and signs of yet another enthralled civilian emerge. Fern casts Makima a knowing look, tightening her grip on her staff, even while she continues to tremble slightly. ]
Miss Makima, I... I think I can...
[ ...take this one on? Can she really...? ]
no subject
[So there's a safety net of sorts. She's not going to leave Fern to be attacked by those things. Not like she knows what Fern's capabilities are, but losing team members would be bad for morale in general.]
Just try your best.
no subject
...But when she really does think about it, that should make it easy, shouldn't it? The person in front of her... tragically, is no longer a person. Just a husk, being puppeteer by the kaiju...
That makes it a lot easier. No less heart-wrenching and thankless and awful, but... easier. ]
I will.
[ Taking a deep breath, Fern lifts her staff to point it towards the victim. In just another short moment, a glowing circle of magical runes and linework appears at the tip of her staff, and from within it shoots a bright beam of energy to pierce right and cleanly through, leaving a perfect, empty circle where flesh used to be. It crumples to the ground.
Fern releases a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding. ]
...That was... awful.
no subject
[Said sympathetically even if she doesn't really feel much here. It's one less of them to deal with, that's about as much as she really cares.]
For what it's worth I hope you don't have to do it too much more. I'd say again, but unfortunately there probably will be another one.
[She's being realistic there, it's an unwelcome thought she knows. But an unavoidable one, and she doesn't want to create the false belief that it'll only be this one Fern has to deal with. That would be dangerous.]
You prevented further suffering though, both for them and for others. So as awful as it was, some good will come from it.
