KAIJU FIGHT #3
KAIJU FIGHT #3
▶ 001. POSITIVE THINKING.
The aftermath of the last kaiju battle, has had LILITH researchers scrambling to find an adequate way to combat the aftereffects of the kaiju discovered in the desert. While their research is still very much a work in progress, for now… it’ll have to do. In the early hours of the morning, a message will appear on everyone’s oculars, asking them to suit up immediately and meet at the given coordinates, which will act as the Outsiders rendezvous point. These coordinates lead to an abandoned hotel within 1 mile to the outskirts of the strip.

A new update awaits each Outsider on their oculars. There is no option to decline, and right away it prompts you through several steps. This update was all in part thanks to the various dreams that the oculars have been reacting to. The researchers for LILITH figured out a way to combat these pesky mental side effects by forcing the mind into a state of equilibrium. In order to do this, Outsiders will be asked to think of their happiest memories. Perhaps, due in part to everyone downloading this update at the same time, people will automatically feel an odd sensation as they think back on these memories, almost as if their mind is connected to a collective. These memories will leave each Outsider feeling fulfilled, or even a temporary sense of high as the download continues. As a result, Outsiders may feel giddy or a sense of calm. Some may be motivated to talk about their happy memories with others the first time they do this.

▶ 002. BREACH OF THE CITY.
Once the download is completed, there’s zero time to rest. It looks like whatever they found in the desert isn’t interested in just sitting and waiting. They’ve come to the city with clear intentions of gradually infiltrating its borders. Who are they? Why, the missing people of course.
Apparently, as part of the kaijus life cycle, it lays eggs, which then hatch into younger worms, similar to actual earthworms. These young worms, unable to protect themselves, control the minds of other living entities in order to do their bidding and keep their own bodies safe. Once infected, their hosts become vicious and hungry for meat, attacking any living thing in sight and trying to eat its flesh to nourish the parasite within.
It’ll be up to the Outsiders in order to scope out these young worms controlling the people of the desert, while simultaneously knocking those individuals out of commission. In some rare circumstances, there will be no turning back for these individuals; if the young worm actually burrows themselves into the bodies of the controlled, they are no more than a reanimated corpse, and will need to be eliminated immediately. The longer these worms exist within these people’s bodies, the larger they grow, and by extension, the more influence they can exert over a larger net of people.
Instead of the camper vans, LILITH has provided other sleeker vehicles in order to quickly traverse the city. The vehicles are equipped for speed and are meant to assist in getting to the various coordinates LILITH sends out to everyone’s oculars. The coordinates all mark where these “controlled people” have been seen via drone footage.

▶ 003. WORM ON THE MIND.
While the attention will be focused on destroying the monsters that have come up to the city, there will be occasional tremors that can be felt that seem to come from far below— almost as if they were cries from the old city that lay forgotten below. Unfortunately, it’s much worse.
In the middle of staving off the attacks from the mysterious creatures, there will suddenly be the sound of the defense alarm blaring, and without any additional warning, something breaks through the center of the city. This will first be punctuated by the sounds of the building around them crumbling, followed by the clear visual of the large serpentine creature they’ve encountered in the desert. The large sand worm doesn’t even pause to regain its bearings. As soon as it recognizes the presence of other organisms, it begins glowing a fluorescent shade in varying indefinable colors—
Thanks to the updates on the oculars, there will no longer be hallucinations that follow any contact with the worm, however, if one stares too long, they will still be met with splitting headaches and a pressing sense of agitation, so Outsiders are cautioned against prolonged exposure. That said, it won’t always be easy to take a breather against such a large creature.

A brief is sent along with her message.
Note: Roles can be decided by the characters themselves as to what they figure is appropriate and most fitted to their skill set. Everyone will eventually fight the worm (so this does not affect the fight mechanics of the worm itself) and people can also jump from one role to another.

█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: ALITTA VIRENS
HEIGHT: 400 metres
WEIGHT: 1,900,000 kg
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: Las Vegas, USA
ABILITIES: Mind control. Although full details are UNKNOWN, its young can take control of human and animal hosts. Once under their control, the hosts will become aggressive and hungry for meat, which is theorized to feed and nourish the young worms until they are ready to emerge.
EXTRA NOTES: According to what the researchers have surmised, similar kaiju have appeared on a much smaller scale and are susceptible to water poisoning and electrical shocks. LILITH has not found a way to fully free the hosts from the parasite, but they can be stunned after receiving multiple electric shocks.
"
YAMAKAWA: Angels of LILITH, please be advised of your roles moving forward. With the city already infiltrated, we will need to be quick."

A brief is sent along with her message.
█ █ █ MISSION ROLES:
✖ GROUP ONE: Those who fulfill this role will need to be equipped with brute strength and the ability to survive the attacks in a city that is the midst of being destroyed. They will also need the stamina to keep the worm at bay as the others complete their tasks before also gathering to exterminate the kaiju.
✖ GROUP TWO: With strong mental fortitude, these individuals will be expected to clean up the group of controlled individuals; not all will be able to be saved, and the ability to make that distinction is imperative for this role. Those who appear too far gone will not be able to regain their senses. They will need to be killed.
✖ GROUP THREE: This group will be concentrated on being able to property evacuate the citizens that remain in the city of Las Vegas. Preferably those who are quick on their feet, or are able to stealthily circumvent the dangers in the city in order to get the people to safety would be ideal for this role.
✖ GROUP FOUR: Those with support skills or a medical background will be expected to assist those in the other groups, whether by healing, additional abilities, or by assisting the other groups as needed.
Note: Roles can be decided by the characters themselves as to what they figure is appropriate and most fitted to their skill set. Everyone will eventually fight the worm (so this does not affect the fight mechanics of the worm itself) and people can also jump from one role to another.
▶ 004. LET'S WRAP UP.
The areas the worm has traversed leaves the ground above it weak and unsteady. Due in part to this, those who have evacuated will need to remain in the shelter until further notice. As a result, it’s up to the Outsiders to clean up the city. Aside from the large gaping hole in the center of the city that they can’t address immediately, they are first expected to get rid of the carcasses of the larvae.
Each Outsider will be provided with a suit and will even be given hover packs to scale down the side of these large holes. They will also be given traditional ropes and lines for those who want to get creative with scaling, or who simply didn’t make it there quickly enough to grab a hover pack (with the destruction to the city, some supplies are still in transit). They will be expected to review each carcass and tag which ones can be sent to the lab for further review, and which should simply be discarded as being unusable.
A coordinated effort is needed to adequately dispose of the largest kaiju. The alitta virens will need to be cut into several thousands of pieces, and so work needs to begin immediately. It’s not like the people can return to everyday life with a giant serpent-like entity laying on top of their city. Outsiders should be particularly cautious with it; even when dead, as it still seems to have strange tendrils inside of its body that appear to be writhing even after its death.

EVENT BREAKDOWN (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. POSITIVE THINKING: LILITH has updated everyone's implants and encourage them to think of their happiest thoughts to give the technology the mental boost they need. Some characters may feel high or giddy and want to express their happy memories to someone else.
2. BREACH OF THE CITY: The worm larvae have a parasitic nature and are taking over the bodies of civilians. Outsiders are tasks to seek out those affected, killing worm larvae or civilians with parasites who are beyond help.
3. WORM ON THE MIND: The largest worm breaks through the ground in the heart of the city and Outsiders are encouraged to attack within their arranged group.
4. LET'S WRAP UP: After the sandworm monster is killed, Outsiders will be tasked with clean up efforts.

positive thinking more like pos-ass-ti--okay no
But there one of them is on display nonetheless: what seems to be a celebration of some kind in a dreary looking office, a few small wrapped gifts sitting on the desk while a single balloon wobbles sadly in the corner and a gathering of small creatures (Melusines, I'm not linking a pic on mobile) waddle around decorating the place. And by decorating, I mean slapping cute stickers over every available surface.
The couch, the coffee table, the phonograph on the desk, the coat that hangs off Wriothesley's shoulder's, even a heart-shaped one lovingly pressed directly onto his a--
Good thing Elysium's interrupting the rest of that unnecessary image. ]
Isn't that navigating for you?
[ They are talking about Elysium here, right? ]
today we gather in appreciating wriothesley's ass, yes
But the visual is appreciated when what Elysium has is the concept of a happy memory, rather than any defining singular one to bring to the table. Comprised of a series of vignettes that are sewn together to create a larger picture, what washes over them is a feeling of belonging more than anything else. ]
Sure. Though, "unparalleled" is a bit different from that, I'd say. And if I'm being real, the average person can get by just fine with a simple map and compass or GPS.
[ Efficiency, unfortunately, has no bearing on being unique. That said! Now that they've finished their tiny detour (they haven't), they can talk about what Elysium considers a very necessary image indeed, thanks. ]
… More importantly. Your friends are rather endearing, aren't they? [ Does he have a soft spot for small things and let them push him around? Aw. ] I've had the thought before, but you're surprisingly tolerant.
[ cue, a not-so subtle glance to his a-- ]
no subject
Though perhaps even the temporary high of Sampo's [redacted] isn't enough to compete with the sense of belonging that suffuses warmly through him, a feeling that has him relaxing and smiling a bit more—despite the ribbing that immediately comes his way. ]
You mean the Melusines? [ He shrugs. ] They're like little kids, for the most part. Who would say no to a kid?
[ Surely Elsyium would never deny a child.... Though, hm. What's he looking at right about now? ]
If you're looking for tips, you should try varying the routine you do.
[ Gym bros arc real....? ]
no subject
But thanks for letting Elysium leech off the warm and fuzzy feelings, Wriothesley. [redacted] is temporary, found family is forever, and supplementing Wriothesley's feelings on it are Elysium's own. A place to call "home" and the understanding of what exactly the word means—evoking only the most exceedingly tender and precious thoughts along with it, leading to a softer smile than is the norm. ]
Kids make a good barometer for one's character. Not many would say no, yeah, but I somehow expected you to be a bit more awkward around them.
[ He's only taking a glance… letting his gaze linger for one beat, two beats, before he raises it again. Is this an implication that Wriothesley works for his ass? ]
But, hmm. In what way? Think you can give me an example one of these days, Monsieur?
no subject
I had plenty of siblings growing up, you know.
[ Of course Elysium wouldn't know, because it's not a fact he brings up to most people. But as far as personal tidbits go, this one seems relatively harmless. He might not know where any of them are now, having cut ties with them long ago, but back then (and to a point even now) he'd only ever thought of them with fondness and warmth.
But enough with the soft sappy feelings. He gestures towards Elysium.]
Why not join me? You'll get more out of participating than just watching.
[ Like, Ely's ass is fine? But it could be better. Doesn't he want to give Sampo something even better to grab onto when they [redacted] for real? ]

But maybe he's just there to assist with clean-up, and she straightens as the last body crumples to her feet. Her heeled feet. Because rather unfortunately, thanks to an ill-timed style upgrade, she is dressed in your typical sexy bunny outfit. Ears included, of course, a black that stands out against her hair. But the fishnets at least cover her legs, for all that most of the scars that tend to remain hidden beneath her usual clothes are out on full display.
It doesn't make Gebura look any more welcoming, at least. ]
Might as well. [ The burial, not the assistance. ] Leaving bodies like this in the long run is just going to heighten the risk of some kind of plague going around.
no subject
Well then. It wasn't too long ago that he was saddled with something similar, (dog ears and a tail…) so it isn't too hard to put one and one together. Still, she'd got a bit of the unlucky end of the stick, didn't she? But lucky for everyone else. Hm. ]
You too, huh.
[ Without additional context, and without even giving her an overt onceover. But he doesn't need to to recognise that she looks nice; a little breathtaking, even. Not quite the place to be saying these things and possibly compromise a more important matter, so he'll shelve the rest of it for another time, perhaps. ]
Considering that we had to handle cleanup when we were first recruited, I wouldn't be surprised if we had to come back for them anyway. Still, it doesn't hurt to mentally prepare ourselves for it.
[ Following up immediately, because time is of the essence: ] So were you on your way to something, or can I steal you for a sec?
no subject
Instead, rather than turn and stride away to the next thing (because there's always something)-- ]
There's always something. [ The brackets will be heard today. ]
What is it?
no subject
For once, a ping to her ocular that won't have her losing any braincells: a pin to one of the main roads. ]
There's a breach I was wondering if you could handle. Big group of 'em that would free up a lot of options if you could. I have some civilians hiding out at another makeshift shelter nearby, but I don't think it'll hold for long.
[ always something, but this "something" might be the most palatable of them all…?? ]
I was thinking of rerouting them to another shelter further away after clearing this one, though it wouldn't be nearly as efficient. What do you say?
no subject
So, intercept them before they reach that shelter. Sure, I can do that.
[ It'll be a lot worse for everyone involved if she doesn't, after all. But she rolls her shoulders back, gaze already turning in the direction she needs to be heading. ]
If you need me to escort them to wherever else you settle on after that, that's fine.

ii wildcardish
[Like a ghost, it sticks arouns when it should be long gone. It took Sampo a few days not to stumble around, accounting for the balance of something no longer there.]
[How perfectly irritating. He puts it and the idea of Elysium to the back of his head. There is a monster to fight. And he needs to apparently use his skill to assist on the side here, sneak that he is. When he hears rhe voice, though, and sees that map - he almost can't help but let out a little laugh. There he is. Back again.]
[He will, of course, track down the mapmaker - its as easy as anything - and give him a little clap from where he's standing in a nearby alleyway.]
Wow. Real thorough work with the map there, pal. One might wonder if you've got too much time on your hands.
no subject
There'd always been that undercurrent of tension permeating every one of their encounters—but there's something else there now, too. More threatening. There's no need to acknowledge it.
Had he worked on the map well before anything had happened? Yes… but his maps are never as user-friendly with the time he's taken to add notes and additional features leading up to this. Who has time for that? If you can't read them as they are, that's a skill issue. Get good. ]
Just because my employer has changed, there's no reason for me not to give it my best effort. You're with me in group 3, aren't you? If you're in need of direction, help by going through the buildings on this side of the street [ a ping to Sampo's ocular, without so much as even glancing over him that traces a complete route for him to follow, ] and ferrying people to Shelters D and F.
[ an important q: is he still going through the style glitch??¿¿ ]
can i not misspell on mobile tags thanks
[....The outfit he is in because of this damn style glitch isn't exactly, well, fully professional, but it should be fine.]
[He hums and nods at the other's explanation, before his own map pulls up in front of his eyes - here's a ping back, with another trace down a similar, but more obscure route coursing nearby it.]
Here, you can update your map. This way's quicker. I know since I've done it. Should help you out! And haha, they say Sampo Koski's not a helpful guy.
[He winks.]
[He really needs to stop that.]

Except. ]
There's a reason why I didn't highlight that one, it's because—
no subject
you're fine but am i? no
Elysium can rationalise this. Not only had he had something similar happen to him, he'd literally just come across Gebura who'd been stuck in a sexy bunny outfit—a person who'd probably rather be caught dead before being caught as a sexy bunny, were it not for her placing duty above anything else.
Maybe it's worse that he could rationalise it, though, because Sampo could have just as simply messaged him about the route or whatever else he would've wanted.
There's a long, drawn out beat as his eyes fall onto bare… shoulders… only to tear them away with an exasperated hiss. ]
… What the hell? [ bro why are you WINKING ] If you wanted my attention so badly, there were better ways to go about it, Koski.

...She's not familiar with the intricacies of communicating during an operation like this, so she sounds the same as ever, polite and conversational, if a bit monotonous. ]
Hello, this is Fern. This will be very useful to us, Mister Elysium. Thank you.
Would you like for us to reach out to you if we notice any discrepancies, or are you somehow able to see all of this simultaneously?
no subject
He's not nearly as monotonous, but his tone has much less inflection than when he was bantering with her in line. ]
No need for thanks, Miss Fern. We're all just doing what we can. Nonetheless, I'll appreciate your words all the same.
[ Pausing briefly to update his map for another set of obstacles: a blockage by way of a collapsed building and a sink hole, he works as he speaks to her. ]
It'd certainly be convenient if I could, but no, I'm just making use of vantage points I'd scouted earlier in the month. [ A quiet laugh. ] So, if you would, I'd be much obliged. Which group would you happen to be a part of?
no subject
I'm assisting in evacuations. Since I can use flying magic, I can let you know what I see, if that helps. I'm prepared to eliminate the larvae I encounter...
[ Dispatching humans that can no longer be saved, however... she's not quite so prepared for. But that is something she's trying not to think about, yet. ]
no subject
Flying magic, hm? Actually, if you could keep surveillance of this area when you can, [ he shoots her an overlay for the map with an area circled in red ] it would be rather helpful. Due to the sinkhole, I'd have to take a less efficient route to check in on it. There are evacuees in a nearby shelter—if anything else happens that might compromise it, we'll have to seek another place for them to stay.
Still, it should hold and the chances of that are probably quite low. Never hurts to be cautious and prepared for the worst case scenario though.

yuwon flicks his sword, attempting to get some of the blood off of it. it splatters a bit, including on his own cheek, but he seems to ignore it for now as he speaks. ] ... You don't need to worry about that. [ he says, devoid of any emotion. it's not that he doesn't think they deserve a burial,
but that he simply thought it none of his business. is that better, or worse? ]
Well, since you're here, show me to the next area. The more of them, the better.
no subject
Totally not someone who has to pose the question of whether or not things need to be eliminated on a day-to-day basis either, no siree. He sheathes his sword, seemingly nonchalant as ever. But it does go a bit deeper than that, from the way his gaze briefly lingers on the corpses before it flickers over to Yuwon. ]
No? But, hey, man. You got something on you. Stay still for a sec.
[ This is Elysium reaching over with a deliberate movement to wipe that bit of blood off… clearly trajected, so he that Yuwon can move away as he wills, shaking it off his own hand if he's amenable. ]
Regardless of your personal sentiments about it, we should just to contain any pathogens and prevent any spread of disease. [ But, a beat as he casts an assessing look at him. ] What's the max you think you can handle at once, big guy?
[ give me a real number bijou ]
no subject
moments later, however, he might bring up the back of his own wrist, as if to clean it twice. ]
If that's what you think is best. [ he's burned a fair amount of bodies, but he doesn't exactly voice this out loud. doesn't feel like he needs to. but, if elysium is someone who feels it to be a necessity, it's not like yuwon is going to push his personal values on him. ... and he can't exactly argue with potential dr. elysium here, right? ]
I don't know, 50, 100? It's not exactly a max number, but I think it'd be good to pursue at least that many. [ maybe it's an ambitious number (or not), but his eyes did make it easier to weed out who to kill or not. but, he doesn't exactly say this. in theory, he's fought off more monsters than that at once, but he's also considering how much arcane power he should be saving. ]
no subject
They also weren't given that option back at the amusement park, so… his expectations are a bit low.
With the explicitly mentioned numbers though, Elysium's eyes briefly flash with interest. He'd had a feeling Yuwon had fallen into the ridiculously overpowered category as far as operatives went, but it is something else when that feeling is validated! It foretells bad times coming his way when it comes to their spar, but whether it's an ambitious number or not, Elysium believes in him fully. He exhales a quiet snort—not to express disbelief, but a mix of exasperation and fondness. ]
Sounds good. I can call for backup if things get too overwhelming. Conveniently, there's an area that needed to be cleared out with a mix of approximately 120 infected and free-roaming young. It's sectioned off for now, but——let's clear them once and for all, shall we?
[ 'Shall Yuwon,' really… But Elysium's eyes, notably, have been lit up this entire time. He mumbles a few things under his breath, then turns towards a direction. ]
This way! Don't get left behind now.
[ he can help with debuffs at least… ]
