KAIJU FIGHT #3

KAIJU FIGHT #3

CONTENT WARNINGS: mind control, parasitic worms, gore

ā–¶ 001. POSITIVE THINKING.

The aftermath of the last kaiju battle, has had LILITH researchers scrambling to find an adequate way to combat the aftereffects of the kaiju discovered in the desert. While their research is still very much a work in progress, for now… it’ll have to do. In the early hours of the morning, a message will appear on everyone’s oculars, asking them to suit up immediately and meet at the given coordinates, which will act as the Outsiders rendezvous point. These coordinates lead to an abandoned hotel within 1 mile to the outskirts of the strip.

"The system is updating…

The system is updating…

Downloading: ⇓"

A new update awaits each Outsider on their oculars. There is no option to decline, and right away it prompts you through several steps. This update was all in part thanks to the various dreams that the oculars have been reacting to. The researchers for LILITH figured out a way to combat these pesky mental side effects by forcing the mind into a state of equilibrium. In order to do this, Outsiders will be asked to think of their happiest memories. Perhaps, due in part to everyone downloading this update at the same time, people will automatically feel an odd sensation as they think back on these memories, almost as if their mind is connected to a collective. These memories will leave each Outsider feeling fulfilled, or even a temporary sense of high as the download continues. As a result, Outsiders may feel giddy or a sense of calm. Some may be motivated to talk about their happy memories with others the first time they do this.

ā–¶ 002. BREACH OF THE CITY.

Once the download is completed, there’s zero time to rest. It looks like whatever they found in the desert isn’t interested in just sitting and waiting. They’ve come to the city with clear intentions of gradually infiltrating its borders. Who are they? Why, the missing people of course.

Apparently, as part of the kaijus life cycle, it lays eggs, which then hatch into younger worms, similar to actual earthworms. These young worms, unable to protect themselves, control the minds of other living entities in order to do their bidding and keep their own bodies safe. Once infected, their hosts become vicious and hungry for meat, attacking any living thing in sight and trying to eat its flesh to nourish the parasite within.

It’ll be up to the Outsiders in order to scope out these young worms controlling the people of the desert, while simultaneously knocking those individuals out of commission. In some rare circumstances, there will be no turning back for these individuals; if the young worm actually burrows themselves into the bodies of the controlled, they are no more than a reanimated corpse, and will need to be eliminated immediately. The longer these worms exist within these people’s bodies, the larger they grow, and by extension, the more influence they can exert over a larger net of people.

Instead of the camper vans, LILITH has provided other sleeker vehicles in order to quickly traverse the city. The vehicles are equipped for speed and are meant to assist in getting to the various coordinates LILITH sends out to everyone’s oculars. The coordinates all mark where these ā€œcontrolled peopleā€ have been seen via drone footage.

ā–¶ 003. WORM ON THE MIND.

While the attention will be focused on destroying the monsters that have come up to the city, there will be occasional tremors that can be felt that seem to come from far below— almost as if they were cries from the old city that lay forgotten below. Unfortunately, it’s much worse.

In the middle of staving off the attacks from the mysterious creatures, there will suddenly be the sound of the defense alarm blaring, and without any additional warning, something breaks through the center of the city. This will first be punctuated by the sounds of the building around them crumbling, followed by the clear visual of the large serpentine creature they’ve encountered in the desert. The large sand worm doesn’t even pause to regain its bearings. As soon as it recognizes the presence of other organisms, it begins glowing a fluorescent shade in varying indefinable colors—

Thanks to the updates on the oculars, there will no longer be hallucinations that follow any contact with the worm, however, if one stares too long, they will still be met with splitting headaches and a pressing sense of agitation, so Outsiders are cautioned against prolonged exposure. That said, it won’t always be easy to take a breather against such a large creature.

ā–ˆ ā–ˆ ā–ˆ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: ALITTA VIRENS
HEIGHT: 400 metres
WEIGHT: 1,900,000 kg
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: Las Vegas, USA
ABILITIES: Mind control. Although full details are UNKNOWN, its young can take control of human and animal hosts. Once under their control, the hosts will become aggressive and hungry for meat, which is theorized to feed and nourish the young worms until they are ready to emerge.
EXTRA NOTES: According to what the researchers have surmised, similar kaiju have appeared on a much smaller scale and are susceptible to water poisoning and electrical shocks. LILITH has not found a way to fully free the hosts from the parasite, but they can be stunned after receiving multiple electric shocks.

"
YAMAKAWA: Angels of LILITH, please be advised of your roles moving forward. With the city already infiltrated, we will need to be quick."

A brief is sent along with her message.

ā–ˆ ā–ˆ ā–ˆ MISSION ROLES:

āœ– GROUP ONE: Those who fulfill this role will need to be equipped with brute strength and the ability to survive the attacks in a city that is the midst of being destroyed. They will also need the stamina to keep the worm at bay as the others complete their tasks before also gathering to exterminate the kaiju.
āœ– GROUP TWO: With strong mental fortitude, these individuals will be expected to clean up the group of controlled individuals; not all will be able to be saved, and the ability to make that distinction is imperative for this role. Those who appear too far gone will not be able to regain their senses. They will need to be killed.
āœ– GROUP THREE: This group will be concentrated on being able to property evacuate the citizens that remain in the city of Las Vegas. Preferably those who are quick on their feet, or are able to stealthily circumvent the dangers in the city in order to get the people to safety would be ideal for this role.
āœ– GROUP FOUR: Those with support skills or a medical background will be expected to assist those in the other groups, whether by healing, additional abilities, or by assisting the other groups as needed.

Note: Roles can be decided by the characters themselves as to what they figure is appropriate and most fitted to their skill set. Everyone will eventually fight the worm (so this does not affect the fight mechanics of the worm itself) and people can also jump from one role to another.

ā–¶ 004. LET'S WRAP UP.

The areas the worm has traversed leaves the ground above it weak and unsteady. Due in part to this, those who have evacuated will need to remain in the shelter until further notice. As a result, it’s up to the Outsiders to clean up the city. Aside from the large gaping hole in the center of the city that they can’t address immediately, they are first expected to get rid of the carcasses of the larvae.

Each Outsider will be provided with a suit and will even be given hover packs to scale down the side of these large holes. They will also be given traditional ropes and lines for those who want to get creative with scaling, or who simply didn’t make it there quickly enough to grab a hover pack (with the destruction to the city, some supplies are still in transit). They will be expected to review each carcass and tag which ones can be sent to the lab for further review, and which should simply be discarded as being unusable.

A coordinated effort is needed to adequately dispose of the largest kaiju. The alitta virens will need to be cut into several thousands of pieces, and so work needs to begin immediately. It’s not like the people can return to everyday life with a giant serpent-like entity laying on top of their city. Outsiders should be particularly cautious with it; even when dead, as it still seems to have strange tendrils inside of its body that appear to be writhing even after its death.

ā–¶ 005. AFTERWORD.

Welcome to our third kaiju log!
Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the smaller kaijus. The main fight with the largest one will be determined via a HP-based system (See below). Feel free to ask any other questions below!

All tags on this log are worth 2 points.

EVENT BREAKDOWN (CLICK TO EXPAND)
1. POSITIVE THINKING: LILITH has updated everyone's implants and encourage them to think of their happiest thoughts to give the technology the mental boost they need. Some characters may feel high or giddy and want to express their happy memories to someone else.

2. BREACH OF THE CITY: The worm larvae have a parasitic nature and are taking over the bodies of civilians. Outsiders are tasks to seek out those affected, killing worm larvae or civilians with parasites who are beyond help.

3. WORM ON THE MIND: The largest worm breaks through the ground in the heart of the city and Outsiders are encouraged to attack within their arranged group.

4. LET'S WRAP UP: After the sandworm monster is killed, Outsiders will be tasked with clean up efforts.

geto suguru ( jujutsu kaisen / ota )

[personal profile] gorb 2024-06-16 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
o1. positive thinking
( A part of him, weary and embittered, wants to scoff at the idea. For all Geto plays at the holistic, he's never actually seen the use in it. Doing is better than thinking, and some things need to be dealt with violently. And while he doesn't consider himself particularly melancholic either ( though he's aware some people might think otherwise ) using thought alone as a weapon leaves him feeling silly. He has, however, seen the power of the worm up close, seen what it has done to people, and he's not about to let his own mind be held hostage like that. The idea of his secrets or paranoias spilling out in front of him is more repulsive than a good memory anyway.

So it is with a weary sigh that Geto finds some corner, folding himself onto the floor with his legs crossed and his hands resting on his knees. He goes still, meditative, mentally riffling through his own memories. When was the last time he felt truly happy? When there wasn't anything weighing on his mind? He pulls force memories of the girls quickly, parties and holidays and occasions, the proof that everything he has done for a reason. A furrow of concentration deepens between his brows as he does so, Mimiko and Nanako's smiling faces before him.

But then his thoughts shift. That has been happening more and more these days. He thinks of himself younger, a commandeered classroom, teeth fuzzy from sugar and his body warm from being sandwiched by two others. It's so strong he feels as though that very same sweet-induced high is filtering through his nervous system. Without opening his eyes, Geto feels the presence of someone nearby, and without thinking he says.
)

When we get back to Tokyo I need to find some ramune. I don't think I've had one in a years. A decade, probably.

o2. breach of the city
( This is infinitely better. Geto doesn't take the time to wonder what that might mean about him though, he's too busy tracking down the monkeys foolish enough to get possessed. It's a little like free therapy, the opportunity for violence without fear of annoying little voices in the background telling him not to, and his frustrations have been enough that he rises to the occasion now, playful cloud a blur of red as he dispatches another walking corpse. )

Be careful.

( To anyone not revelling in the brutality as much as Geto is. But if someone is running into trouble there is aid coming from the skies - a sleek white dragon that comes careening down to start gobbling up a body. Like it's master, it seems very unaffected by the carnage that might be taking place, winding through the streets with single minded focus. It is currently the only curse that Geto is implementing, he's much preferring the hands-on approach, but it is at least clever enough to avoid anyone from LILITH's entourage, following the signs of the infected to snap at rather than anyone else.

Somewhere else, Geto laughs, the end of his staff plunging through a ribcage.
)

o3. worm on the mind
( At this point he isn't surprised. He's seen enough terrible movies in his lifetime to realise the real big bad would show up sooner rather than later. The worm rearing it's ugly body through desecrated city is surely big, and absolutely not an opponent to be taking lightly, but still Geto takes a moment to breathe, his dragon half looming beside him as he pushes hair from his eyes. Not for the first time he wishes his technique would work on something like this, the sheer raw power would be useful with his arsenal cut down as it is. A shame, it would be more useful alive.

He pats the dragon on the flank once, and it rises into the sky without urgency, Geto cricking his neck to snap a knot. He throws something of a grin to his neighbour, good-natured.
)

A shame we don't have a really big boot. That usually works for worms.

( He doesn't seem particularly worried, more curious. )

Do you have a plan?

That’s a good question, I don’t have much experience with giant worms.

[No, those are more the realm of movies, a couple coming to mind that Makima saw and didn’t particularly find worthwhile. A shame she doesn’t entirely remember how they dealt with those. If she'd known she'd run into a giant worm monster, she surely would've paid more attention.]

I’d think since we don’t have a giant boot, maybe blowing it up? Or sending something inside to damage it, these things are usually weaker on the inside, aren’t they?

[She’s thinking about it, the briefing didn’t say so, but that’s logic she feels can be applied to most things, if the outside is durable, the inside usually isn’t.]

Or finding something bigger to eat it, but I think that's about as likely as a giant boot.

[A little bit of a laugh there. If only. Well, if only and it didn't make things worse for everyone else, of course. No sense in something bigger showing up if that becomes the next problem for them to deal with.]

( He looks thoughtful at that, but unfortunately beyond his curses Geto doesn't have a whole lot available to him when it comes to ranged attacks. Nor does he have any dynamite. )

I'm beginning to think the higher ups throw us into these situations without a plan just to see what might happen.

( Lifting his gaze from the worm and towards the dragon in the sky, Geto has just enough time to catch the tail-end disappearing before his curse moves closer. Not for the first time he wishes he had his full arsenal. He could chip away at it enough that it might fall. )

I might need to invest in some weaponry if we keep this up. ( Jovial, like he's not feeling the tremors beneath his feet. ) Get some comically large tnt.

Might be a little annoying to carry around. Those gloves might do the trick though.

[The Hammerspace ones she means. Not that she's picked up a pair yet, but she's thinking about it. Being able to teleport in a weapon is more convenient. Not that the sword she normally brings on missions is that difficult to lug around, but having something in reserve could be useful.]

I don't think you're wrong though...I don't know if I'd say no plan, but I do think a lot of it is seeing how we approach these things.

[It might be better to not do that after this one though, the first encounter in the desert went poorly, but things could've gone worse. But there's no real suggestion box that Makima's aware of for this sort of thing.]
gorb: (Default)

[personal profile] gorb 2024-06-20 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh?

( A pause, a hum, like he's mentally chewing some things over. )

Like a test?

( He certainly wouldn't be surprised, he's only been here a little while and already his grievances with LILITH are numerous. Still, it isn't the time nor the place, and his gaze goes to where rainbow dragon is still circling. )

Do you know how to fight?
kubricks: (I Stole 16 Million Dollars)

[personal profile] kubricks 2024-06-21 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
I do.

[She says looking ahead at the worm. Not a lot of elaboration there, but she'll give him a little more than just that.]

Though I'm not sure if I'll be as useful here as against the controlled people.

[Not that it's going to stop her from trying.]

And I don't think it's so much testing us as intelligence gathering on their part. A lot of us can do things they don't seem to have an equivalent for, so it's likely best to see what we can do to put it to good use later.
gorb: (xii.)

[personal profile] gorb 2024-06-21 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure any of our skills are incredibly useful against something like that. Maybe if I had more of my old curses I'd be able to launch an attack but -. The size alone seems like a problem.

( Well, LILITH has been strange regarding which ones they'd chosen to bring with him. His power also doesn't always listen to him. A problem that is irritating, but not quite completely off-putting. )

I don't know enough about worms to even formulate an attack. I suppose we could just throw everything at it and hope for the best?
kubricks: (all work and no play)

[personal profile] kubricks 2024-06-22 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
It's frustrating, isn't it?

[She doesn't address the throw everything at it comment just yet. It's a strategy she agrees with, but first she focuses on the curses, or lack of them.]

Working with less than what you're used to.

[It's something she can empathize with. If she had all her contracts in place, this fight would probably go very differently. But then again if she had all those, she probably wouldn't be on the front lines either.]
gorb: (xxx.)

[personal profile] gorb 2024-06-22 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely annoying. Though I'm sure I'll get into the swing of it regardless.

( It's why he always aimed to hone his skills in several different things and not just his cursed technique. It had felt a little like overkill once, but now he's glad for it. Besides, training fills the wide void in his life the same way beating up monsters does. )

A little guidance would have still been good but - ( A deeply dramatic sigh, this bitch. ) - Oh well. Haphazard attempts it is.

[ it's funny, he thinks, that the last time he'd come close enough to see the white of Geto Suguru's eye it had also been in the heart of battle. here, though, it isn't the beastly that they're carving through.

it fascinates just as much as it twists up in choso's gut, sickly and shameful.

carnage suited this inkstain of a man. ]

I always am.

[ admonishment would be wasted, so choso saves his breath, glances up to watch the dragon's path for a beat before dropping the weight of his attention back to Geto. ]

More are coming up the street from the east. Don't overexert yourself just yet.
gorb: (cxxxviii.)

[personal profile] gorb 2024-06-17 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Mm? Is the one who wears my body like a suit very bad at fighting? Probably because it doesn't suit him.

( It's somewhat sneered in response, half offended at the assumption he might tire, half at once again running into Choso. At least this time Geto knows enough about him, he's talked to Satoru, and he's spoken more than enough times to the boy, he can put two and two together. He knows he should be treated more like an ally than an enemy. Either way, he still doesn't like putting his back to the cursed spirit, it's just that the groups of possessed monkeys are fast, and he's allowed to kill them. The contempt barely lasts anyway, Geto using the hood of a car to swing his way up on top, surveying the approaching figures.

Rainbow dragon takes to the skies again, circling ahead.
)

Try not to get anything disgusting on me, all right? ( Faux jovial. He flicks playful cloud hard against the metal below him, removing the gore. ) I haven't had chance to shop yet and washing blood out is so hard.

Ramune?

[ She has no idea who this man is or why he's talking to her (well, because she's there, perhaps), but it's not the kind of conversation Gebura would pivot and walk away from immediately, so she lingers.

There's not much else to do and she hasn't exactly pinpointed her own happy thoughts yet. Things like that weren't the easiest to come by, but she doesn't see a need in feeling depressed about it either. ]

Is that some kind of snack?
gorb: (ix.)

[personal profile] gorb 2024-06-18 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
A drink. Usually citrussy. Though I've had ramune flavoured candies too.

( He doesn't exactly know what's inspiring him to talk, only that there's a strange warmth filtering through his body as he does so, a bubbling ease that loosens his tongue. )

I had a friend that would try to find the most bizarre flavours he could get his hands on. It got so bad he had to trick us into trying them. The takoyaki one was one of the worst. They're fizzy, and you don't expect them to taste like octopus.

( He pulls a face, almost boyish. )

Maybe they don't even make them in the future. But I'd like to try and find some.
bemist: (You think you're right)

[personal profile] bemist 2024-06-18 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Octopus-flavored fizzy drink. Despite herself, Gebura's nose scrunches up just slightly, imagining it. But he said they were normally citrussy so maybe normal flavors exist and this friend of his is just insane.

... Not that she doesn't know a few people like that, herself. ]

I don't see why you couldn't find them, especially if you can ask for them by name. Worse comes to worst, you maybe find them being sold for more than they're worth.

[ Wouldn't be the first time. ]

Or figure out a way to make your own, though that'd probably be a pain.
gorb: (lviii.)

[personal profile] gorb 2024-06-20 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. I'm sure there's a knack to it. And it would probably require equipment. I don't know how to carbonise anything, do you?

( It wouldn't hurt to find out if any of their number could. He's already been thinking about how he might lessen his interactions with humans. He avoids the cafeteria as a point of pride, though he's not sure surviving off of cup noodles is any better. He can cook a little though, but making his own beverages? That's new.

He files it away for now either way.
)

I hadn't done much shopping before we were brought here, but the stores mostly looked the same. I hold out hope there isn't a black market for snacks anyway. I might have to get a job if there is. ( A twitch of a smile. ) But no, I was just trying what LILITH suggested. It's funny, what comes to mind then.
bemist: (Where I can run)

[personal profile] bemist 2024-06-20 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't my area of expertise or anything [ truly, so very far from it ] but I don't see why there wouldn't be some kind of source of information lying around here somewhere.

Either way, you're talking about the happy memory thing, huh? It's not the best thing to say I can't think of much, I know, but...

[ She shrugs. ]

gorb: (xix.)

[personal profile] gorb 2024-06-20 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, they clearly don't have to be spectacular if mine involves ... candy?

( It's more than that, he knows. It's Shoko and Satoru and the hazy warmth of summer. It just makes him feel better, narrowing it down to something that does not hurt to think of. )

And I still think we'll win the fight even if we can't come up with too many positive memories. It probably doesn't have much of an effect.
bemist: (I'm trouble)

[personal profile] bemist 2024-06-20 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Did you have a rough time with it earlier? I imagine the people who were lured in by it in the first place probably need to focus more on that kind of preventative measure.

[ And Gebura was fine, but you know. She's aware even the ones who seemed tough did actually succumb to it, so it's not just that. ]

... Also, in your case, it seemed to be more the memories with your friends that the ramune talk brought about, more than the flavor itself.

[ Yuji is, undeniably, in awe of the dragon. It’s just so cool, and his instinct is to go over to it and start petting it like he would one of Megumi’s shikigami, but he doesn’t think Geto would appreciate that as much as the divine dogs seem to, so he hesitates. Instead, he flicks out with some of his blood to attack the worm, little pops of explosion appearing behind Geto before Yuji skids to a stop beside him.

He’s tired. He’s really tired. There are dark circles under his eyes and his face is pale, but at least it’s not from blood loss - that’s not really an issue for him these days. ]

I wanna try and get a grenade in its mouth.

[ Yuji holds one up - it’s a blood red thing, clearly… Made out of his own human blood. Hm. ]

… You have a cool dragon, Geto-san.

( He's definitely going to have to talk to Gojo about this kid. Itadori looks like hell, and while Geto still doesn't care it will stick, one of these days he knows they all need to be at their best while they're here. Especially with how often LILITH sends them out fighting. It's a professional concern only, he's sure of it.

He inclines his head slightly, eyeing the grenade.
)

Yeah, that'll do it.

( A grenade is reasonably useful. Probably could do more damage than chipping away at the beast until it caves. He casts a narrow eye at the boy, the worm, the dragon. )

I can get you up there. If you trust me.

( He shouldn't, he absolutely should not. And yet. )

[ It wouldn't be the first time Gojo's had to scold Yuji here, and it might not end up being the last with the way that Yuji throws himself into the missions. At least this time it's not entirely his own fault - there's something to be said for the horrors of reliving his own memories, and the way that he's trying to shove them all aside and focus on fighting. He's good at that. It's the one thing he's good at.

Beaming, ignoring the aches he feels, he settles down beside Geto. Clearly, he doesn't worry about being attacked, despite the warnings. ]

Yeah? Really?

[ Unfortunately, trust is one thing Yuji gives... Almost too freely, and he doesn't know enough about Geto to think otherwise yet. ]

Wanna try?

Sure.

( Said with the nonchalance of a man knowing he's making terrible decisions.

Still, Geto lifts a hand, wary gaze flickering across the strewn rubble. Rainbow dragon answers the call pretty quickly though, gliding back down to the ground and bowing its head in front of them both.
) She'll bring you as close as she can get if you get on her back. Your aim might be better up there than it is down here. Just don't fall off. I'll be held responsible.

( The dragon huffs out a breath nosily, peers at Itadori but doesn't move. And then, as though to try and be reassuring. )

She only dropped Satoru once, and it was because he was being annoying. Just don't pull anything you shouldn't and you'll be fine.

It's so cool...

[ Yuji can't help but stare at the dragon, wanting to reach out and pet it, but not being sure if he's even allowed to. Would the dragon bite him? Would Geto-san get mad at him...? He has no idea, but the urge to do it is almost overpowering. Thank goodness, he's learned a little bit of self-control.

His fingers do twitch a little, though. ]

I won't fall off! Even if I do, I'll probably be fine.

[ Because he can survive a lot of things. ]

I won't be annoying, dragon-san, I promise!

( Barely holding back a sigh. )

You can touch her, the fur's fine. She won't mind if you hold on.

( Because he's not blind, he can see the wonder, the twitchy want to touch. He'd felt the same way when he'd tamed the dragon, the least awful of the curses he's had to consume. He'd been strangely glad when LILITH had deemed to bring her back into his arsenal, the strange grief he'd held with Fushiguro Toji had killed her steadily abating.

He steps closer, dragging a hand over the shoulder blades.
) She was bigger before. LILITH's doing. I'd come with you, but -.

( Space.

And he's better off down here, where he can fight, where he doesn't need to be so close.
)

Just keep yourself safe. She can figure herself out.

[ Yuji brightens immediately, like the young teenager that he actually is. Despite all the horrors and nightmares he's faced, the idea of petting a dragon makes him fall into that youthful fervour he can't ignore. ]

Woah! She's still so cool, though... Have you named her?

[ Reaching out, fingers brushing against the scales and the strange sensation of her fur, Yuji grins. ]

I'll be safe, don't worry. I'm the last person you need to be concerned about.

[ Slowly, as if worried that he might do it wrong, somehow, Yuji makes to climb onto the dragon's body. ]

You should take care of yourself too, though, Geto-san.
