CONTENT WARNINGS: mind control, parasitic worms, gore

▶ 001. POSITIVE THINKING.

The aftermath of the last kaiju battle, has had LILITH researchers scrambling to find an adequate way to combat the aftereffects of the kaiju discovered in the desert. While their research is still very much a work in progress, for now… it’ll have to do. In the early hours of the morning, a message will appear on everyone’s oculars, asking them to suit up immediately and meet at the given coordinates, which will act as the Outsiders rendezvous point. These coordinates lead to an abandoned hotel within 1 mile to the outskirts of the strip.

A new update awaits each Outsider on their oculars. There is no option to decline, and right away it prompts you through several steps. This update was all in part thanks to the various dreams that the oculars have been reacting to. The researchers for LILITH figured out a way to combat these pesky mental side effects by forcing the mind into a state of equilibrium. In order to do this, Outsiders will be asked to think of their happiest memories. Perhaps, due in part to everyone downloading this update at the same time, people will automatically feel an odd sensation as they think back on these memories, almost as if their mind is connected to a collective. These memories will leave each Outsider feeling fulfilled, or even a temporary sense of high as the download continues. As a result, Outsiders may feel giddy or a sense of calm. Some may be motivated to talk about their happy memories with others the first time they do this.

▶ 002. BREACH OF THE CITY.

Once the download is completed, there’s zero time to rest. It looks like whatever they found in the desert isn’t interested in just sitting and waiting. They’ve come to the city with clear intentions of gradually infiltrating its borders. Who are they? Why, the missing people of course.

Apparently, as part of the kaijus life cycle, it lays eggs, which then hatch into younger worms, similar to actual earthworms. These young worms, unable to protect themselves, control the minds of other living entities in order to do their bidding and keep their own bodies safe. Once infected, their hosts become vicious and hungry for meat, attacking any living thing in sight and trying to eat its flesh to nourish the parasite within.

It’ll be up to the Outsiders in order to scope out these young worms controlling the people of the desert, while simultaneously knocking those individuals out of commission. In some rare circumstances, there will be no turning back for these individuals; if the young worm actually burrows themselves into the bodies of the controlled, they are no more than a reanimated corpse, and will need to be eliminated immediately. The longer these worms exist within these people’s bodies, the larger they grow, and by extension, the more influence they can exert over a larger net of people.

Instead of the camper vans, LILITH has provided other sleeker vehicles in order to quickly traverse the city. The vehicles are equipped for speed and are meant to assist in getting to the various coordinates LILITH sends out to everyone’s oculars. The coordinates all mark where these “controlled people” have been seen via drone footage.

▶ 003. WORM ON THE MIND.

While the attention will be focused on destroying the monsters that have come up to the city, there will be occasional tremors that can be felt that seem to come from far below— almost as if they were cries from the old city that lay forgotten below. Unfortunately, it’s much worse.

In the middle of staving off the attacks from the mysterious creatures, there will suddenly be the sound of the defense alarm blaring, and without any additional warning, something breaks through the center of the city. This will first be punctuated by the sounds of the building around them crumbling, followed by the clear visual of the large serpentine creature they’ve encountered in the desert. The large sand worm doesn’t even pause to regain its bearings. As soon as it recognizes the presence of other organisms, it begins glowing a fluorescent shade in varying indefinable colors—

Thanks to the updates on the oculars, there will no longer be hallucinations that follow any contact with the worm, however, if one stares too long, they will still be met with splitting headaches and a pressing sense of agitation, so Outsiders are cautioned against prolonged exposure. That said, it won’t always be easy to take a breather against such a large creature.

█ █ █ MONSTER DEBRIEF SHEET
NAME: ALITTA VIRENS
HEIGHT: 400 metres
WEIGHT: 1,900,000 kg
CLASS: Extremely Dangerous
LOCATION: Las Vegas, USA
ABILITIES: Mind control. Although full details are UNKNOWN, its young can take control of human and animal hosts. Once under their control, the hosts will become aggressive and hungry for meat, which is theorized to feed and nourish the young worms until they are ready to emerge.
EXTRA NOTES: According to what the researchers have surmised, similar kaiju have appeared on a much smaller scale and are susceptible to water poisoning and electrical shocks. LILITH has not found a way to fully free the hosts from the parasite, but they can be stunned after receiving multiple electric shocks.

YAMAKAWA: Angels of LILITH, please be advised of your roles moving forward. With the city already infiltrated, we will need to be quick."

A brief is sent along with her message.

█ █ █ MISSION ROLES:

✖ GROUP ONE: Those who fulfill this role will need to be equipped with brute strength and the ability to survive the attacks in a city that is the midst of being destroyed. They will also need the stamina to keep the worm at bay as the others complete their tasks before also gathering to exterminate the kaiju.
✖ GROUP TWO: With strong mental fortitude, these individuals will be expected to clean up the group of controlled individuals; not all will be able to be saved, and the ability to make that distinction is imperative for this role. Those who appear too far gone will not be able to regain their senses. They will need to be killed.
✖ GROUP THREE: This group will be concentrated on being able to property evacuate the citizens that remain in the city of Las Vegas. Preferably those who are quick on their feet, or are able to stealthily circumvent the dangers in the city in order to get the people to safety would be ideal for this role.
✖ GROUP FOUR: Those with support skills or a medical background will be expected to assist those in the other groups, whether by healing, additional abilities, or by assisting the other groups as needed.

Note: Roles can be decided by the characters themselves as to what they figure is appropriate and most fitted to their skill set. Everyone will eventually fight the worm (so this does not affect the fight mechanics of the worm itself) and people can also jump from one role to another.

▶ 004. LET'S WRAP UP.

The areas the worm has traversed leaves the ground above it weak and unsteady. Due in part to this, those who have evacuated will need to remain in the shelter until further notice. As a result, it’s up to the Outsiders to clean up the city. Aside from the large gaping hole in the center of the city that they can’t address immediately, they are first expected to get rid of the carcasses of the larvae.

Each Outsider will be provided with a suit and will even be given hover packs to scale down the side of these large holes. They will also be given traditional ropes and lines for those who want to get creative with scaling, or who simply didn’t make it there quickly enough to grab a hover pack (with the destruction to the city, some supplies are still in transit). They will be expected to review each carcass and tag which ones can be sent to the lab for further review, and which should simply be discarded as being unusable.

A coordinated effort is needed to adequately dispose of the largest kaiju. The alitta virens will need to be cut into several thousands of pieces, and so work needs to begin immediately. It’s not like the people can return to everyday life with a giant serpent-like entity laying on top of their city. Outsiders should be particularly cautious with it; even when dead, as it still seems to have strange tendrils inside of its body that appear to be writhing even after its death.

▶ 005. AFTERWORD.

Feel free to NPC your characters' fights with the smaller kaijus. The main fight with the largest one will be determined via a HP-based system (See below). Feel free to ask any other questions below!

EVENT BREAKDOWN (CLICK TO EXPAND)

1. POSITIVE THINKING: LILITH has updated everyone's implants and encourage them to think of their happiest thoughts to give the technology the mental boost they need. Some characters may feel high or giddy and want to express their happy memories to someone else.

2. BREACH OF THE CITY: The worm larvae have a parasitic nature and are taking over the bodies of civilians. Outsiders are tasks to seek out those affected, killing worm larvae or civilians with parasites who are beyond help.

3. WORM ON THE MIND: The largest worm breaks through the ground in the heart of the city and Outsiders are encouraged to attack within their arranged group.

4. LET'S WRAP UP: After the sandworm monster is killed, Outsiders will be tasked with clean up efforts.

[Raidou shoots him a look with one eye for a moment, before closing it again. Would he expect any other answer?

A little exhaustion is nothing compared to what everyone else is going through.

[No, he didn't expect anything less from Raidou. The orca-like kaiju took forever, but luckily the others have taken less time. Killing that damn worm rampaging through the streets shouldn't take as long as handling the possessed civilians.

Katsuki takes off his bracers and rubs at the metal underarmor covering his forearms. He's additionally frustrated over the realization it was the Outsiders' failure to kill this monster out in the desert that allowed it to make landfall in the city. The guilt over being too weak to fight off a damn mental attack...]

The initial clean up and recovery for this is going to take weeks. We could still be here for a very long time.

[The boy he'd been helping is finally stable, and he awakens to ask where his little brother is. Raidou assures him that they're both safe, and that he'll go check on him soon, but for now, he needed to rest. The boy manages to relax at least a little.

With that taken care of, he moves his chair over to Katsuki, and holds out his hand.]

LILITH will probably send us here in occasional waves. They're not going to leave Neo Tokyo unprotected for that long.

[Despite being capable of going to other places now, as far as Katsuki or any of the Outsiders know, Neo Tokyo is the main headquarters fro their activities. Their rooms and shit are there too. And he doesn't want to be stuck in Vegas for weeks at a time. He wants to get the hell outta this place even now.

Once the worm shit's done.

Katsuki watches silently as Raidou takes care of the teenager. Despite his stoic appearance, the guy has a nice manner to him, reassuring the other boy. There's a gentleness in the summoner you wouldn't usually expect.

He breaks out of his momentary thoughts when Raidou hovers a hand to him. Oh, right...] Tch-!

[Katsuki plops his hand in there with a huff.]

Car lessons when we get back.

True... Though if that's the case, I might see if I can stay longer.

[The amount of injured will be immeasurable. They're going to need a lot of help.

Raidou's never had the best bedside manner, but it's something he's working on, in a way. A lot of people come to the shrine looking for solace and comforting words, and it's something he's had to practice. Expressing anything for him is never easy. It might still be monotone and quiet, but the effort is there.

But as he turns to Katsuki, that deadpan, I-will-not-be-told-no stare is back as he offers the hand, then takes Katsuki's much like he did with the boy. using both hands works faster.

Though the comment about driving lessons does manage to get the tiniest of smiles out of him.]

[There's always going to be clean up and taking care of the debris. The bay from the orca attack is still in recovery. Who knows how long it'll take Vegas to repair itself. Tunnels under the city, streets torn up, property damage, medical trials...

Katsuki believes people take more to Raidou's effort as well. He's calm, quiet, doesn't look scary, and does anyone come to a shrine expecting the priests or workers to be animated jokesters? Respect and proper tact is what a shrine is usually about. Probably why Katsuki's never resonated much with them. In his mind, they're boring. He goes there the rare time out of tradition. Well... he's gone more now just to visit Raidou at his work, and occasionally to rest.

Yeah, yeah, that dogged stare is half the reason Katsuki surrenders his hand to the summoner. Not gonna get into an argument or staring contest at this hour of the battle. Hmph.]

You almost went up on two wheels, dammit. You should be insisting.

[Really, the faster he went, the worse handling he had. Though Katsuki'll give some credit; Raidou wasn't driving on an open highway.]

[He looks a little sheepish at that.]

... Those new vehicles moved much faster than the vans. I wasn't quite ready for it.

[He pauses, silent for a moment, eyes closed as if concentrating. He lets out a quiet sigh that feels like he's letting something go.]

I never thought I'd miss Neo Tokyo.

[Even before the giant worm ruined this city, he was tired of it. He should know better than to get too comfortable in his life back "home", but it was hard not to. Those normal lives they got to live in between missions is something he's eager to get back to. Missions like this made him only appreciate it more. The city had its own fair share of problems, but it was home for him, now.]

[Katsuki squeezes his hand in return. Sheepish Raidou is cute. Tch...]

The roads being fucked up didn't help.

[Cracked, heaved up, divots, holes, a host of other issues that made driving on the very unpleasant. Red eyes linger on the summoner, taking in the focused expression on his face, and the low exhale to rid the weight of a thought.]

Six months is a long time to get used to something.

[Katsuki never wants to think of Neo Tokyo as "home" and actively tries to avoid using the term to describe it. But he's not immune to human sentiment and comfort. He used to the city as well, his room and dorm, his dormmates, his job and life there, the sights and sounds. A shakeup like Vegas really sets the unsettling reality that they're out of their comfort zones hard against their awareness.]

It's too damn hot and dry here.

[Raidou can agree to that, and gives him a strong nod. This pale mountain boy is much more a fan of the cold weather.]

It's far too much. Maybe a week would have been fine.

[Raidou thinks back about how they once talked about travel in this world, something he thought would be impossible. Or if it was, that it would be within Japan only. If only they could have enjoyed it more, but they knew from the start that this wouldn't be a vacation for long.]

I've always wanted to travel. Never thought I'd really get to.

[Says someone who's walked in the world between time and space more than once, and lived to tell the tale. Not that travelling the Corridor was exactly a pleasure trip either.]

Or more like, I never thought I'd get to travel any place I wanted to. America was on my list, but...

[He shrugs lightly.]

I suppose we knew we were here for a mission, in the end.

[Katsuki doesn't like the cold. It interferes with his Quirk and that chain reactions to a few areas that piss him off. But there's something to be said for intense, dry heat that turns the world into a fucking oven... Negative something.]

Those bastards never gave us a time limit when we arrived.

[Now they know why. Katsuki's certain they'll be returning to Neo Tokyo eventually; their dorms are there and as far as they know, LILITH's main HQ is there. Plus new arrivals show up in that city first. They can't be stationed in Vegas forever.]

Che! Teleportation isn't travel.

[It completely skips the pros and cons of traveling to the destination. Someone who things teleportation equals travel would consider going through a door travel... Or something like that. Katsuki's just being grumpy.]

You wanted to go to America? [He blinks at Raidou, surprised curiosity tugging his eyebrows into his bangs.] Why?

It's travel enough for me.

[If teleportation is the way to do it here, fine. Though he wouldn't be against the old fashioned way, if it were possible.]

I've heard a lot about it. But mostly, I wasn't picky about where I wanted to travel.

[A lot of daydreams when you figure you'll be in the same city your entire life. He gives a quiet moment of thought about if he wants to say what he inevitably does next.]

... I've traveled to alternate dimensions. I've been between worlds. I've seen glimpses of my city up until a hundred years past my own time. But the greater area of the Capital was all I was ever really going to see.

Hmph. [Katsuki's dealt with two teleportation-like travels in his world, both the Warp Gate and Warp Quirks, and the Warp Gate is by far the best of the trio, LILITH's teleporter included. It didn't feel like puking or getting pulled apart with queasy side effects.]

All Might studied in America and got his hero start there. Izuku and I always wanted to go. [Katsuki's voice drops a bit to an almost awkward sort of tone, as if admitting that was a nerdy thing. Which it totally was. Half out of personal interest, half out of sheer adoration for their world-famous idol.

He peers at Raidou curiously when he talks about previous experience.] How the fuck did you do that? Demon magic?

[Was Raidou there, or some kind of evidence of him there, in the hundred years jump foreward?]

Sounds like a good reason to visit, to me. Then you get to see where everything started for him.

[He supports your nerdy dreams, bud.

"Demon magic" is the long and short of it, and he nods lightly.]

All in the name of keeping the Capital safe. Demons primarily reside in a dimension parallel to ours. I'd travelled back and forth to that side many times. But the universe is a much bigger place than that. I've been to those in-between places between worlds, but this is the first ever other world I'd actually visited.

Yeah. They've got museums about him over there even though he's been in Japan for 40 years.

[It's totally a nerdy dream. Ironic considering his idol's been his teacher for the past school year too. But that was more with Izuku than Katsuki... Jealous.]

You went there to fight demons? I thought they attacked the Capital.

[Don't tell him you left the Capital and invaded someone else's "world" just to grab some new friends/tools... Rude.]

What's it like?

[Describe the fathomless in-between, Raidou.]

When investigating demons, you never know what you might stumble across. Not all need to be fought.

[Raidou has to think about that question. Someone not great with his words to begin with needing to explain an unearthly dimension unlike anything from their own worlds would be tough even for someone else. He furrows his brow as he tries to come up with a description. It's times like these that he misses Gouto the most. He'd be better at it.]

The Corridor? It's... endless. Cold. Floating grey planes arranged and built in a way that seems almost random. There are demons there. Some souls lost between time and space trying to find their ways. Doorways to other times and places.

[Describing it out loud makes something dawn on him.]

Abaddon was much different. As if the opposite. Bright, gold, warm. Motifs in circles and swirls instead of sharp edges. Another place for demons, but emptier of life and presence. The realm of the insect king. The fallen angel.

[Just Raidou casually dropping how he's been to Lucifer's realm. It's fine. It's all fine.]

You said you were more a detective...

[Katsuki's juggled the idea of Raidou being a stationed soldier versus a person who went looking around behind the scenes to try and crack cases. This sounds like it went back to the initial things he learned about him. He's right that not all encounters needed to turn into battles. Not that Katsuki's partial to that result... Fight him.

Is it the most descriptive description ever described? Hell no. Does Katsuki have the patience to listen to Raidou paint a vivid detailed picture with everything present and accounted for? Fuck no! One of the reasons he bothered to even ask the guy what the dimension was like. Raidou would give a truncated and effective response.]

Sounds surreal.

[Interdimensional.]

Abbadon? [Katsuki cocks his head to the side, one brow arching in confusion.] Is that another world or something?

I was. Our specialty was "unusual cases". They got very unusual sometimes.

[His life did, indeed, get pretty surreal. Such is life when you're involved so heavily in the supernatural.]

Another plane. Dimension, I suppose. The realm of Lucifer.

[It takes him a second to realize how it must sound to someone else.]

... It's not as bad as you'd think. And the times I was taken there I got out.

Sounds like a blanket term they could throw anything under...

[Anything out of the ordinary. Depending on what was considered ordinary, since they had someone to fight demons like they expected it. Aka: ordinary...]

Who? [Yeah, Katsuki's world is Japan over a century in advance and he doesn't really pay much attention to religion. The name means little to nothing to him.] Did you kick his ass while you there?

[If Raidou was in the guy's home anyways, and he's bad, go for it.]

[Raidou has a wide berth of knowledge of the world's religions thanks to his job.
Religion, myths, legends, cryptids, heroes... Don't ever ask him to do any geometry though. Good grades in his high school in history and literature, not so much in everything else.

How to succinctly describe him.]

In Christian religions, he the leader of the angels who rebelled against God. He was then cast out of Heaven. Though it was his realm, and while he was there, we were actually there to deal with a village god from Japan that was much more powerful than it originally appeared.

[It's a very long story, and he's tired. Shinado was an incredibly difficult opponent, coming after Raidou with visions of despair that linger with him more than any physical wounds he took. Maybe another day. His expression grows distant at the thought, and he attempts to recover by giving Katsuki a quick look over. Satisfied that he looks better, Raidou lets go of his hand and arm.]

Perhaps another time. We have more pressing matters.

[Raidou's not good in math? Too bad for him. Bakugo hasn't bothered any of his friends about their studies, since many don't go to school or are already graduated past it. But if he finds out about bad grades... he might yell at them for it. Raidou included. Look, they have Ratio running around now throwing exams at people.]

Oh, the Devil. [When it describes it like that, yeah, Katsuki remembers it in a general sense. That vine-haired girl in Class 1-B is devoutly religious and says shit related to it a lot. What was Lucifer's other name... Right, Satan. That guy. So the big bad of a religion. Raidou just waltzed into his realm, huh.] You're taking down god's now?

[He thought it was criminals, little monsters, and demons. Damn, Raidou's been escalating his opponents. Luckily Katsuki's not asking for detailed answers. Hell, that last question could be little more than a taunt rather than seeking comment. Once Raidou lets go of him, the blonde tests his arms and legs, checking the wound on his shoulder. At least it's stopped bleeding.]

Aa. Make sure that guy finds his brother.

[the_fourteenth]

[No worries there. He's already one of Ratio's students. Priest studies include general studies that he needs to catch up on, after all.]

That's right. [He doesn't just fight gods, either.] ... If someday some of my demons are returned to me, you can meet Susuano-o. Or Futsunushi. Or Kohryu.

[He's got all kinds of gods on his side, including several from Japan.]

I will. Now go. They need you out there.

[Right. Raidou was in school for the first few months he was here. Katsuki's had an offer from Ratio to learn under him, but is currently thinking it over. He has some loyalty issues to deal with.]

You should request them. LILITH is able to borrow things from our worlds and bring them here.

[Katsuki's never given up the idea (or toned down the want) for Raidou to reclaim his demons from home. Seeing other summoners with access to theirs while Raidou remained sword-only never seemed fair to him. But other things interfered, so... It only takes the idea to get him to voice support for it again.]

I know of Susuano-o.

[The others are less familiar.]
