The decision has been made. LILITH Japan orders the Outsiders to mobilize to pursue the Imugi.
Given that they are in a foreign country, they are largely dependent on LILITH Koreaβs resources. In response to the decision, the Korean branch provides some assistance: the Outsiders are given just enough vehicles to help transport them, essential supplies, and only a few operatives to help guide them. This is the most the Korean branch is able to give, as they must focus on relocating people and restoring peace following the attack.
LILITH announces that the Imugi is currently resting near Gangneung on the east coast and they must move quickly. The effects of Rift poisoning will grow stronger as they approach the source; a sign that they are close to a kaiju. Upon reaching the mountains just outside the city, LILITH informs them that they are right on top of its location.
However, there is no Imugi to be found. After searching the area, Outsiders will discover the source of the trace and the poisoning: eggs. They will find about twelve eggs. When they report their findings, Seokdang will curse. In their rush, they had followed the wrong trace. They didnβt track down an injured and resting Imugi—they tracked down the Imugiβs nest. So where is the Imugi?
Not long after, Outsiders will receive an update on their implants: the Imugi reappeared in Seoul. After seeing the corpse of its mate, it went berserk and attacked the city again. While many of the citizens were evacuated to nearby Incheon and remaining shelters, just as many perished, with the death toll at 168,000 and rising. LILITHβs Korean base is destroyed.
The Imugi was last seen flying north, but the Korean government prohibits the Outsiders from pursuing it again through their territory. By choosing to pursue the kaiju, the Outsiders have abandoned humanity and thus will receive no further support. They are ordered to leave the country immediately.
LILITH Japan will order them to collect as many eggs as possible and continue to the abandoned city of Gangneung, where they will arrange pick up and return to base in Tokyo.
βΆ AFTERWORD.
Thanks everyone for participating in our first major Event Decision! We hope you had fun discussing what to do both ICly and OOCly.
After failing to capture the second Imugi and also failing to save a large portion of Seoul's population, characters will be shipped back to Japan. The events of the TDM will springboard from there. Feel free to use this post to thread out any aftermath threads if you would like.
All tags on this log are worth 2 points and will count towards August AC.
[They are not defenders, dammit! They're fighters! They were brought here to fight and kill the kaiju! In the name of the moon protecting the rest of the world, that is what they were brought to this world to do! Destroying the enemy is the same as protecting those behind you! THAT is the most important thing! It was! It should be! FUCK!!
*CRUSH!*
Every damn time, they waited until the kaiju struck! The ONE time they took the battle to the kaiju, they got their asses handed to them! Can they afford to keep being reactive?! ... Even though heroes usually are reactive. Patrolling, watching, responding when a villain or a disaster struck. How can they predict what will happen in the future?]
Dammit, that isn't foolproof either! You weren't here when we fought that worm kaiju in the desert. [Bakugo picks up another can, glaring at the surface.] It had some sort of fucking brainwashing capability that screwed up our oculars. Almost all of us found ourselves chasing someone who didn't exist, and fighting anyone who get in our way.
[*KA-BOOM!!* The can goes up in an explosion as he crushes his fist shut.]
We tore ourselves apart that day.
[He figures Godzilla can put the pieces together.]
[ Bakugo manages to go and trigger Godzilla's fight instinct for half a second there. It's nothing personal, it's not even conscious, explosions just tend to be the precursor to a fight so he's going to react. His ocular finally turns off as his head snaps to Bakugo and he just stares, legs tensing, the rest of his body going dead still the way a stalking cat's does.
It takes a second for his brain to catch up, then he's right back to relaxing. His eye starts glowing as he goes back to his implant as if nothing happened. ]
I have been informed of the mind-manipulator. You have already touched on the important change, I was not here. I am now. Such enemies are of far less concern.
[ And there's that ego. Of course a mind manipulating enemy wouldn't be able to effect him, he's Godzilla. If that happens in the future he'll be able to wrangle up whatever Outsiders are effected and deal with the problem.
His over-confidence is going to get him killed one day.
After a beat the kaiju king lets out a huffing sigh, complete with a twitch of his tail. ]
However, you are correct. Nothing is fully proof against defeat. Each of us is diminished now in spirit as well as power. The circumstances are not ideal.
[He never really thinks about what his sudden explosions can do to other people. Bakugo's always been like that, accenting threats or claims with a powerful detonation or a rush of smaller bursts. Technically he's not supposed to do so, according to his society's Quirk restriction law, but that's one of the extremely few rules he breaks habitually. It's not gotten any better here, though most people he's interacted with for a while know he'll do that. Godzilla will get "used" to it after a bit.]
Fucking shame you weren't.
[He's grumbling about it. Whether or not the worm would have affected Godzilla is up in the air, though there's a good chance the kaiju would have resistance to the mind affect. Then again, it affected a fucking robot, so... who the hell knows. He's not going to battle the King over it.
Of course, if Bakugo does meet Godzilla under the affects of a brainwash, damn right he's going to taunt him over it. (Provided it's not a serious, emotional thing.) He's a jerk, but not tactless.]
Tch. No shit. [He balances a can on its lower rim, circling it around his finger via the upper nothing more than something to do in the meantime.] Now we've got a whole damn nation that thinks we're traitors to humanity!
[ There it is! Bakugo finally hit on something to get past the calm demeanor Godzilla's been trying to keep up. ]
Bah! Traitors! They label us a title more fitting of themselves!
[ His tail smacks against the ground making the cans on the table jump and rattle around. Smoke is literally rising out of his nostrils now. ]
Humans mistaking me for their enemy is a thing I was used to in my world, I could not communicate with them, I do not blame them. But this? This is making the escaped goats of us. [ Scapegoats. ]It is not just an insult, it is pathetic, the feeble misdirection of failed rulers.
[ There's an angry snort, more smoke. ]
I pity the humans of that land. Their leaders will see them to ruin.
[Look, he wasn't trying to, but it's nice to know the big guy's irritated to some degree as well. Bakugo scowls in front of him, jumping slightly from that powerful smack of Godzilla's tail. Not out of startle, but sheer vibration impact.]
Ungrateful is more like it. [The shit part is, Bakugo's not so illogical he can't see why they would feel that way. They specifically asked the Outsiders to stay and help them. Requesting aid like that from a foreign power, only to have that aid denied in order to pursue their foe. A foe with returned without impediment and laid waste to everything. He'd be pissed to.
But that's completely forgetting everything the Outsiders had done for them already! Ignored the Outsiders' information and intent! Dismissed the fucking intent of them being there in the first place! TO FIGHT!! They initially requested Japan's branch to help them deal with the goddamn kaiju, NOT to babysit the fucking city!] Tch, they forgot what we were there to do.
[Not that there's much left for Seoul's leader to see to ruin...]
We didn't abandon them, we did what our damn job was to do: kill the kaiju.
[Bakugo hasn't chewed this out with anyone yet, so getting to vent with Godzilla is a relief.]
A duty we were forced to leave incomplete. The enemy was wounded, her mate's body laid out before her, and now her nest has been raided. She will return. When she does she shall make the current number of dead appear as a fond memory of better days.
[ He knows what her type is like! When operating on their own nature they're bad enough but when you make things personal with a being of abject cruelty? It'll burn entire ecosystems just to watch those it hates suffer slower deaths. Both his natural imperatives have been put in direct risk by the withdrawal from Korea, humans and the planet both are going to take unacceptable levels of loss.
And there's nothing they can do about it. ]
That land's leadership should be overthrown.
[ Which is a worrying thing to say! One he doesn't elaborate on, instead he slams back the last of his coffee before crushing the empty can one handed and tossing it up onto the table. ]
LILITH's leadership is not seeming much better. Relenting to the demands will be seen as a sign of weakness, respect will be difficult to come by now.
[Godzilla lays his own thoughts out in front of him and it feels good that someone else likewise saw the logic of their actions. They chose the best course of action! If they hadn't been given wrong information, they would've killed the kaiju without adding more damage to the city with another fight inside it, AND would've been back to help with the city's criminal shit within two days! IT WAS A LOGICAL CHOICE, DAMMIT! That wasn't abandonment! That was preemptive tactic!
But if they stayed in the city and she hadn't returned, they would've helped the people, set things right, LEFT, and then the dragon would come back, probably WITH children, and destroyed everything they had worked so hard to fix. With no time available for the Outsiders to return and protect them.
They couldn't take that chance.]
That's outside our jurisdiction. [As angry as he is with Korea's judgement of them, that they didn't realize their thoughts were on the right path, he can't condone an uprising in revenge. Blaming LILITH is the easier route, since they tracked the wrong thing, something outside the Outsider's ability to predict. But...]
I don't give a shit about them saying yes or no. We're the only Outsiders. Like it or not, Korea saw us kill a fucking kaiju. If they can do better, they didn't need to send for us in the first place!
[He grabs another can and crushes it.] What I want is for LILITH to own up to fucking US over!
[ Bakugo has a point. The problem is part of what keeps Godzilla in line is the tampering his microchip does, he's dispositioned to think positively about LILITH and it's combined with his own natural instinct to protect the planet. LILITH wants the same thing, it doesn't make any sense that they'd leave their best chance at achieving it out to dry.
His head is starting to hurt. ]
The benefaction of the doubting is they will address it in time. They are recovering from their own loss, the LILITH lair in Korea was exterminated.
[ He growls, not fully believing that himself, and scratches behind at the back of his head in irritation. ]
Yet LILITH are our leaders. It is as much their duty to take responsibility for this failure as it is to ensure we are in the right place to perform our duties. If they continue to avoid this I shall be angry.
[ Which Godzilla believes is all he needs to say to convey the grim seriousness of that situation. Him being really angry doesn't end well for anyone. LILITH is surely wise enough to not force his claw, right? ]
[Bakugo has no idea that the chip is influencing the kaiju into thinking so about LILITH. If/when he finds out about that, he's going to be extremely pissed off. But protecting the planet, or in Bakugo's case, more the people of it, that's something they can agree on without any kind of influence. Even if LILITH angered him with their failure, he still reluctantly admits the organization wants to save humanity. Albeit with questionable execution at times...]
That dragon's still alive. If it's as smart as you think, it'll carry a grudge. [Though it won't have its brood anymore, since those eggs are now in LILITH's hands. The lesser of two evils on the surface, but he's wary about the future.]
They're not our fucking leaders. They're people we've agreed to ally with. [Even if pressed to do it.] But you're right about their duty. They better talk about it the next time they make a big announcement.
[He understands Godzilla's underlying "or else" threat. A lot of Outsiders are probably feelings the same way.]
Correct. She will likely seek the Outsiders out as well. She battled some of our number before, it will not take an equal of Archimedes [a genius. ] to infer that others like them killed her mate.
[ Which might actually work out in their favor now that he thinks about it. If the Outsiders are the target of the Imugi's revenge rather than Korea itself then the damage to the world could be minimized. She might even come right to them, saving them the trouble of another hunt.
With a grunt he pushes himself up to a standing position, rolling his neck and making it crack. It's a hell of a sound, there's a lot of thick bones in there. Thickest one's in his head, really. ]
I am sure they will. Very few would be unwise enough to do otherwise.
[She was beaten to the point of fleeing against just half of their numbers. Her mate died to the other half (plus military). There's no way she's going to make it out alive if the Imugi comes against the full roster of rested (and pissed off) Outsiders, including what military might Neo Tokyo has.
Plenty of them will have it out for that bitch just as personally as she has it out for the. Vengeance and atonement are very powerful forces. The question is, is there a way to bait her somewhere?]
We need to figure out a better way to direct the kaiju. Every damn place we've been to, we've seen its presence, but can't do shit until it attacks whatever city we're in. [Thinking ahead.] Next time, we have to come up with a way to either draw it away from the city or meet it before it gets there.
[Risking civilian lives, collateral damage... fuck it, they can do better.]
[ And here Godzilla is tapping his index claw against the floor as he thinks on it. There has to be a solution to drawing the enemies away to fight them with as little destruction as possible. He's Godzilla, damn it, anything should be possible as long as he is around! ]
Perhaps there is a way to challenge them. Prepare in a location far from humans and then send forth a signal to the enemy to bring them in. Were I not diminished I am sure such a thing would be in my capability.
[ He pauses, stops tapping his claw, and lets out a frustrated huff. ]
Though just as possible this will do nothing. When beings like these "kaiju" do battle it seems we always choose to do so within the homes of humanity. I do not understand why.
It shouldn't be that fucking hard! These bastards have always been able to at least track its general location.
[Whether it's tremors in the ground or strange clouds in the sky, every place they go has some hint towards the kaiju's presence nearby. Taking the fight to them may have its own risks, as they'd essentially be searching a wider area for the kaiju rather than bolstering ranks and being ready to clash when the monster finally arrives.]
Gonna lure them with your siren mating call? [Yes, he his taunting Godzilla now. But back to seriousness.] They come after settlements for obvious reasons. We need to locate what they want and how they track that, then we can either lure them away or trick them into coming to us instead.
[Bakugo snorts at the possibility of these things doing "nothing" if they prepare like that.]
