The decision has been made. LILITH Japan orders the Outsiders to mobilize to pursue the Imugi.
Given that they are in a foreign country, they are largely dependent on LILITH Korea’s resources. In response to the decision, the Korean branch provides some assistance: the Outsiders are given just enough vehicles to help transport them, essential supplies, and only a few operatives to help guide them. This is the most the Korean branch is able to give, as they must focus on relocating people and restoring peace following the attack.
LILITH announces that the Imugi is currently resting near Gangneung on the east coast and they must move quickly. The effects of Rift poisoning will grow stronger as they approach the source; a sign that they are close to a kaiju. Upon reaching the mountains just outside the city, LILITH informs them that they are right on top of its location.
However, there is no Imugi to be found. After searching the area, Outsiders will discover the source of the trace and the poisoning: eggs. They will find about twelve eggs. When they report their findings, Seokdang will curse. In their rush, they had followed the wrong trace. They didn’t track down an injured and resting Imugi—they tracked down the Imugi’s nest. So where is the Imugi?
Not long after, Outsiders will receive an update on their implants: the Imugi reappeared in Seoul. After seeing the corpse of its mate, it went berserk and attacked the city again. While many of the citizens were evacuated to nearby Incheon and remaining shelters, just as many perished, with the death toll at 168,000 and rising. LILITH’s Korean base is destroyed.
The Imugi was last seen flying north, but the Korean government prohibits the Outsiders from pursuing it again through their territory. By choosing to pursue the kaiju, the Outsiders have abandoned humanity and thus will receive no further support. They are ordered to leave the country immediately.
LILITH Japan will order them to collect as many eggs as possible and continue to the abandoned city of Gangneung, where they will arrange pick up and return to base in Tokyo.
▶ AFTERWORD.
Thanks everyone for participating in our first major Event Decision! We hope you had fun discussing what to do both ICly and OOCly.
After failing to capture the second Imugi and also failing to save a large portion of Seoul's population, characters will be shipped back to Japan. The events of the TDM will springboard from there. Feel free to use this post to thread out any aftermath threads if you would like.
All tags on this log are worth 2 points and will count towards August AC.
[ The sight of Seoul in ruins banishes the summer heat. In its place is sheer cold. A winter that travels down her neck, her spine, then all the way back up to her head to sink its claws into her brain.
Ruin. Desolation. Death. Blood. Thousands of cries for help. Millions of tears. The longer she stares at the city, the further back in time she falls. Back to being a child holding the hand of an even smaller child. Cold, scared, alone, the sound of mortar and gunfire far away in the distance. ]
Would...would some of us staying have made a difference...?
[ It's a question for herself. Rhetorical, painful. ]
so, what is LILITH’s response to the outsiders for this on the personnel side? will we get reprimands? congratulations? the dreaded “i’m not angry just disappointed”?
[ After being transported back to the base in Japan, Marcille is sitting in a corner of the cafeteria in her LILITH-assigned hoodie and sweatpants. She's holding a single microwaveable pork bun in her hand, one small bite taken from the top where it steams. She looks worse for wear, understandably, like she hasn't slept or eaten since the initial battle. Fluorescent colors play over her eyes as she uses her oculars, unseeing to anything else around her.
After a while, the colors blip out. She looks (miserably) at whoever's nearby. Then she offers up the pork bun. ]
Do you want this? I can't finish it. It's really good.
( ooc: also, feel free to wildcard if you want! pm me if you want to hash something out. )
[ Collect the eggs, they said. Leave immediately, they said. "The Outsiders have abandoned humanity," they said.
It's not right. It makes the burn remnants on her face itch something fierce. Humans are always doing this, aren't they? Always blaming someone else! ]
Fuck humanity. We obey your orders, put our lives on the line, but one mistake and we're the ones in the wrong...
[ She looks over at the eggs. She was hoping to nail their mother in the face again. Take her down a peg and eat these little bastards to make a point. Instead, she rears up her empty rifle like a bat and swings down as hard as she can. ]
AND FUCK YOU!
[ The egg shatters, yolk flies and spills everywhere. She gears up to swing again, eyes blazing
Someone should stop her before she cracks the rest. ]
there is no surprise whatsoever it turned out badly -- of course she hoped for the best when the decision was announced, but malkuth had fought for the opposite for a reason: because she knew it would cost them allies, be it their own or help from those in Korea. it was always more important to think of the long term, and more had thought in the short.
well. anyway, malkuth's got so little hesitance in hitting up the network with her two cents: ]
Imagine losing a dragon twice! I guess we should've stayed after all, huh? Then you could've gotten your revenge and we would've saved more lives than we lost -- and kept the support of a good ally, too.
Let's remember this going forward! It's always better to take things one step at a time!
Ereshkigal is determined to stay behind to ensure everyone who died will receive proper funerary rite by the local traditions. Of course, that's an impossible task, but will she be allowed to stay a while or will she be forcefully kicked out (and how will it go if they force her)?
[ maki can't really eat much either, but she doesn't believe in wasting food. so she'll take the pork bun and decides she'll just force it down the pit of her stomach. ]
She's unfortunately used to death in various forms back at The City and she has heard stories on large scale conflicts and disasters happening in other districts. The innocents and the puppets of the higher ups suffer and die while those with enough power in position can get away in some fashion.
While waiting for their ride in Gangneung, she is going to sit there and take it easy. She literally has no motivation to help with the eggs, no matter if folks want to smash them or actually gather them. Her expression is somber and the general mood is really cold and numb right now. She feels nearly nothing and she's not in the mood to try to break the ice.]
This sucks. [That's all she got to say really, even if it's the common feeling in the air right now.]
----
[ooc: feel free to wildcard at me! at gangneung, the ride back home, or anywhere around the japan base. you are also free to text her if you like, i am flexible!]
[ With her hands empty, Marcille idly rubs her fingertips and nails. Fidgeting. She looks off to a corner of the room. ]
I know it's too late— [ She breathes in sharply. ] That it's pointless to regret it now. We had the best intentions in the end, right? All of us. Why were we the ones who had to decide anyway?
I don't care if you don't think I have the right to say anything about this when you're the one who was so desperate to finish a job that didn't need to be finished. Or do you always put yourself above others for your own pride?
