Update

โ–ท DECISION UPDATE

โ–ถ OUTCOME: BURNING BRIDGES
The decision has been made. LILITH Japan orders the Outsiders to mobilize to pursue the Imugi.

Given that they are in a foreign country, they are largely dependent on LILITH Koreaโ€™s resources. In response to the decision, the Korean branch provides some assistance: the Outsiders are given just enough vehicles to help transport them, essential supplies, and only a few operatives to help guide them. This is the most the Korean branch is able to give, as they must focus on relocating people and restoring peace following the attack.

LILITH announces that the Imugi is currently resting near Gangneung on the east coast and they must move quickly. The effects of Rift poisoning will grow stronger as they approach the source; a sign that they are close to a kaiju. Upon reaching the mountains just outside the city, LILITH informs them that they are right on top of its location.

However, there is no Imugi to be found. After searching the area, Outsiders will discover the source of the trace and the poisoning: eggs. They will find about twelve eggs. When they report their findings, Seokdang will curse. In their rush, they had followed the wrong trace. They didnโ€™t track down an injured and resting Imugi—they tracked down the Imugiโ€™s nest. So where is the Imugi?

Not long after, Outsiders will receive an update on their implants: the Imugi reappeared in Seoul. After seeing the corpse of its mate, it went berserk and attacked the city again. While many of the citizens were evacuated to nearby Incheon and remaining shelters, just as many perished, with the death toll at 168,000 and rising. LILITHโ€™s Korean base is destroyed.

The Imugi was last seen flying north, but the Korean government prohibits the Outsiders from pursuing it again through their territory. By choosing to pursue the kaiju, the Outsiders have abandoned humanity and thus will receive no further support. They are ordered to leave the country immediately.

LILITH Japan will order them to collect as many eggs as possible and continue to the abandoned city of Gangneung, where they will arrange pick up and return to base in Tokyo.

โ–ถ AFTERWORD.
Thanks everyone for participating in our first major Event Decision! We hope you had fun discussing what to do both ICly and OOCly.

After failing to capture the second Imugi and also failing to save a large portion of Seoul's population, characters will be shipped back to Japan. The events of the TDM will springboard from there. Feel free to use this post to thread out any aftermath threads if you would like.

All tags on this log are worth 2 points and will count towards August AC.

I'm not so sure about that.

[Makima's thinking it over, she understands the logic there, but...]

We have some heavy hitters on our side and some have taken out comparable or more fearsome creatures on their own before. Where I would think there's a miracle is that we haven't had this level of destruction before.

Oh, you do have a point.

[ rover frowns, thinking over all the incidences she's heard from other outsiders regarding their encounters with other kaiju. ]

Why do you think that is? Were the kaiju previously contained in more isolated areas than this one?
kubricks: (Do I look all rancid and clotted?)

[personal profile] kubricks 2024-08-31 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
I think that's part of it. The first one was at sea, the second in an abandoned amusement park.

[The worm was kinda...all over the place, but Vegas wasn't in the greatest shape beforehand.]

Still, there's a lot of things that weren't the case with this one, there weren't two large threats to deal with, our initial efforts weren't split...

[The list goes on and on.]

I see ... yes, a lot of the changes truly caught LILITH off-guard.

[ she sighs. ]

I suppose boosting recruitment and resources is the only way to have dealt with our situation better. [ not that it will resolve the problem. she doesn't believe that at all. but it would, at least, be able to free up resources if needed. ] That being said, it would be kind of silly to think that there won't be a time in which a kaiju is threatening a city wasn't accounted for in their plans ...?

Though my impression of LILITH is that Outsiders aren't included in planning.
kubricks: (I pity you as I would the village idiot)

That's the correct impression. We're not.

[It only bothers Makima a little. Not a ton, but she does think there's some experience and resources to draw on that's not being utilized properly there. But at the same time, she doesn't get too mad about it because she also keeps her subordinates in the dark or excludes them from her planning.

Still, there's a bit of a wry smile on her face.]

This was also the first time we've really interacted with another branch, so that may play a part in things. One side may have planned or accounted for something the other did not. Coordinating between divisions and agencies can be troublesome, but this is more of a worst case scenario, compared to the usual hardships.

You seem very experienced. Have you done something similar in your home?

[ bureaucracy seems like her lifeblood, the way she talks too overly familiar in the intricacies of coordinating between agencies and divisions. rover was never privy to such things until she absolutely has to, and even then, her duty was to mostly stand back and help where necessary but let the experts do the talking. it works much better that way for everyone anyway. ]

It makes me wonder just how widespread they are if that's the case ... or how limited the Japan branch is in asking for resources where needed.

This was essentially my job back home. Not being in the field necessarily, but something more along the lines of LILITH command. Of course, I would assist when needed.

[But usually not needed. Only in very special or very dire cases. Sometimes both. And she does wonder if that would be the case for command, though it seems unlikely? This was pretty dire and nothing.]

We didn't, or couldn't operate in other countries though. Though we're often far too busy at home to be involved with things abroad. Here that's clearly a different story.

[With some pretty mixed results.]

I see. It's a waste that you're not being utilized well. [ a pause, and then she adds, as an afterthought, ] Though that can be said of anyone from our teams - we're all being utilized poorly.

While the duties are relatively easy, I do worry about what it means in the future once the missions become complicated - not just because of what the kaiju is capable of, they're always going to be difficult - but because of the ... inter-agency problems we're not privy to.

[ and being in the middle of that bureaucratic grind isn't nice ... ]
kubricks: (origin and purpose are still a mystery)

[personal profile] kubricks 2024-09-02 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately, it is what it is.

[She agrees on the poor utilization for the others and about the potential to run into issues due to issues they just aren't aware of. There's a slight frown there, but like she said, there's not much to do about it.]

We just have to do the best we can and hope the others do as well.
