The decision has been made. LILITH Japan orders the Outsiders to mobilize to pursue the Imugi.
Given that they are in a foreign country, they are largely dependent on LILITH Koreaβs resources. In response to the decision, the Korean branch provides some assistance: the Outsiders are given just enough vehicles to help transport them, essential supplies, and only a few operatives to help guide them. This is the most the Korean branch is able to give, as they must focus on relocating people and restoring peace following the attack.
LILITH announces that the Imugi is currently resting near Gangneung on the east coast and they must move quickly. The effects of Rift poisoning will grow stronger as they approach the source; a sign that they are close to a kaiju. Upon reaching the mountains just outside the city, LILITH informs them that they are right on top of its location.
However, there is no Imugi to be found. After searching the area, Outsiders will discover the source of the trace and the poisoning: eggs. They will find about twelve eggs. When they report their findings, Seokdang will curse. In their rush, they had followed the wrong trace. They didnβt track down an injured and resting Imugi—they tracked down the Imugiβs nest. So where is the Imugi?
Not long after, Outsiders will receive an update on their implants: the Imugi reappeared in Seoul. After seeing the corpse of its mate, it went berserk and attacked the city again. While many of the citizens were evacuated to nearby Incheon and remaining shelters, just as many perished, with the death toll at 168,000 and rising. LILITHβs Korean base is destroyed.
The Imugi was last seen flying north, but the Korean government prohibits the Outsiders from pursuing it again through their territory. By choosing to pursue the kaiju, the Outsiders have abandoned humanity and thus will receive no further support. They are ordered to leave the country immediately.
LILITH Japan will order them to collect as many eggs as possible and continue to the abandoned city of Gangneung, where they will arrange pick up and return to base in Tokyo.
βΆ AFTERWORD.
Thanks everyone for participating in our first major Event Decision! We hope you had fun discussing what to do both ICly and OOCly.
After failing to capture the second Imugi and also failing to save a large portion of Seoul's population, characters will be shipped back to Japan. The events of the TDM will springboard from there. Feel free to use this post to thread out any aftermath threads if you would like.
All tags on this log are worth 2 points and will count towards August AC.
[ He blinks at first, before her words click and his expression spreads into a fond smile. ]
I didn't think about it like that, but now that you say it, I can't unsee it.
[ She really is like a prickly cat! Elan drops down in the grass besides her, sitting cross-legged to wait and see if the stray will come back. ]
Speaking of, how are your horns?
[ They had been damaged in the fight a few months ago if he's remembering correctly. It doesn't look like they're causing her pain, but he also doesn't know the first thing about them. ]
[ Dang it. She should've just kept her mouth shut. Maybe if she'd played dumb-!! Ah well. She'll just have to brace herself for any future cat-themed teasing. ]
Still a little sensitive, but it's tolerable. They don't hurt, anyway.
[ She's eager to not go through them breaking again, though. It was painful, inconvenient, and overall just not a good time. ]
[ His gaze lingers on her horns. She's lucky there's no lasting damage. If he starts thinking about all the close calls and needless suffering they've been put through, he'll start feeling bitter, so he pushes those thoughts away. ]
[ What she is... It shouldn't be a hard question to answer. Still, she pauses and hums in thought as she wonders just how to say it all. So much awful, bloody history condensed into less than twenty years.
Finally, she breathes out a steadying sigh and sits down properly. She faces him head-on, face grim as the grave. ]
They called us "Diclonius." Me, and all the ones born after me...born because of me. Because I infected their parents with my "arms."
[ He had brought Kaede out here to relax, so seeing her expression turn grave, he realizes he must have tread on a sensitive subject and is facepalming internally. Good going! Maybe he should have kept his mouth shut. This feels important to hear out though, and he is curious about her... ]
I think I would've noticed if you grew extra appendages.
[ He has his guesses about her "arms" but he's not going to bring up the girl from the desert, that would be a sure way to tank her mood even further. He's not prying hard either, he'll hear out whatever she feels like sharing with him. ]
They're invisible. They're like if you could move your own arms but without flesh and blood limiting that movement. And they're stronger. Faster.
[ To demonstrate, she looks over at the bag of cat food nearby and lifts it up into the air with one of them. The bag floats over to her and tips so a small handful of kibble drops into her palm. ]
[ The urge to roll her eyes at the pun is...yeah, too strong. Sorry, Elan, she can't help it. It's a well-humored response, at least! What with her soft "heh" to go along with it. ]
Yeah, they're pretty useful.
[ The bag of catfood plops down on the ground in front of her so she can funnel the kibble in her hand back into it. ]
Before coming here, they were sharper and longer. And they carried a virus that rewrote human DNA. Gave their children horns like mine..."arms" like mine.
You have nothing to worry about. They took that power from me when I came here...I think.
[ She assumes LILITH would, at least, since they dulled them down so much already. Her gaze falls onto Elan's hand, and she gives him a quick glance as if to ask "are you sure?" before one of her vectors reaches out.
The hand slides into his with no sound and no real presence. He'd be forgiven for thinking it isn't there at all if not for the pressure of what feel like fingers pressing gently down on his hand. ]
[ Elan rubs his thumb along the back of her invisible hand and squeezes and unsqueezes it lightly, feeling out the shape of her hand that he can touch but not see. Then he closes his hand around hers and shakes it up and down. It probably looks as goofy as his smile right now. There. Now they're friends. ]
[ The texture of her vector is...odd. Sometimes it has the vague shape of a hand, but no warmth or truly solid form. It's like touching glass, if the glass had the surface tension of a bubble that never pops.
She watches him touch it with rapt fascination, but she can only go for so long before laughing. ]
[ He turns her invisible hand palm up, or what he assumes to be, and pours some kibbles into it, then motions for her to refill the bowl for the cat sneakily. ]
[ For a moment, the hand sits there, cat food floating in the air to all eyes that look, before Lucy nods. She looks over to where a few cats sit licking themselves or splay out to rest, and the vector slides through the air toward them before resting close to the ground. Kibble still floating, but closer to the ground.
She holds her breath as a couple of the cats look over and approach cautiously, sniffing the air. One is brave enough to inch even closer and sniff the food, and once it's convinced there's nothing weird about it, it chomps down to eat. The others fall in afterward and muscle up against each other to grab their greedy share. ]
Probably because you're too eager for it. [ She gestures towards the cats. Some of them have already started creeping over toward them. Though they mostly just loaf nearby, eyes on the pair. ] Cats will come to you if you sit and wait. Let them figure you out first.
[ He hums, looking at her sideways, his sly smile reflecting the thought he's entertaining. Could she be the same way?
He's glad to see Kaede relax though. If she's forgotten where he was supposed to be taking her, he won't be saying anything. He'd rather pass a leisurely afternoon, eat some snacks, pet a cat, and nap. Elan pours some kibble out for the nearby strays and like she says, just waits. ]
Well, I'm not in a hurry. This place isn't so bad, right?
[ More of the cats perk up at the sound of food, but the closest ones don't move just yet to get more. Still feeling out their caterers, it seems.
Lucy doesn't mind either way. Her legs might be tingling a little from crouching, but it's easy to forget everything else from the past few days. The power of just hanging out with someone else. ]
It's not. So, you were right. This isn't a bad way to blow off steam.
[ Seeing Kaede at ease, he's at ease. Elan stretches himself out lazily on the grass, feeling more relaxed than he has in a while. He's got to pat himself on the back for the idea, and also ... It's nice to share this spot with someone. Coming here alone isn't the same. ]
You're opening yourself up to a lot of random calls or text messages.
[ It's a half-hearted warning. One that comes with her leaning back and eventually just flopping back against the grass as well. The sky always looks so nice when there's nothing else to block the view. Lazy clouds and the brilliant colors as the sun fades. ]

Sounds handy. [ ...bad pun. He grins and moves on. ] You must be speedy with chores.

I'm not going to grow horns, am I? Should I be worried?

Hey, give me your hand. Your invisible one.
